Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

The past turn at Fort Weyr had been interesting. The Weyr found itself swamped with a controversy that ended with most of a weyrling class transferring. However, it wasn't only the dragons and riders of that particular clutch that found themselves abandoning ship. There were those who didn't approve of the treatment of the 'strange' dragons and transferred along with them. Among the ranks of those riders were a man named So'rik and a green named Sybanth.

He felt hopeful about Vaioa. Past dramatics that had surrounded the Weyr aside, it seemed like a progressive place. Perhaps they would be able to really prove themselves here. This Weyr might be the place where they would be able to make a positive change in the world. Yes, they had only been in their new Weyr for a little while and he was already making plans.

Where So'rik was looking forward to the hard work that was to come, Sybanth was wallowing in a significantly more fretful view of the world. Transferring was just such a big change! There were so many things that could go wrong! Not to mention that they hadn't fully moved into their personal weyr yet, which was a whole new source of anxiety for her. While her rider rooted about inside their new living quarters getting things in order, the pink-touched green stood guard by the handful of belongings that still sat out on their ledge.

Why is this taking so long? she complained. Can't we just take the rest of the stuff inside? People might steal it if we let them stare at it any longer!

So'rik, who had been in the process of adjusting a dresser into the perfect placement, paused to answer his dragon. I told you, I'm still getting everything ready. We don't want unnecessary clutter when things are still being moved. Alright, so he might be nit-picking a bit, but he maintained that there was nothing wrong with that. Besides, Vaioa shouldn't be a bed of crime. I don't think anyone will steal our stuff.

You don't know that! Sybanth cried. You look away for one moment and then bam, snatched! She walked over to the edge of her ledge and peered distrustfully over it. There were strange people all over this Weyr. Questionable strangers, the whole lot of 'em.

"You're sure they're in our wing? This isn't going to be weird?" Mie looked to his brown for reassurance as he wrapped up a welcoming plate of fruits and breads, something for the new arrival to snack on as they settled in. Mie wasn't entirely sure what that required, given that when he'd moved from home it had been straight into the candidate barracks, which only required a couple sacks and a helpful rider who'd given him a lift.

Eybith watched the ritual of careful cloth folding over the offering and tried to keep from teasing Mie in response. His rider had been going over everything for the past candlemark, stalling out of nervousness. It was a kind thing to do, this new Fort rider was going to be a part of Granite and welcoming them was proper, but that didn't make the man less twitchy over meeting someone. This will be good for them, and for you. Just remember what I said. Their names are So'rik and Sybanth, a green pair, and she wasn't one of Attikoth's.

"That's useful to know." Mie said thoughtfully. There were a couple other Fort transfers in his wing who were from the clutch, but he hadn't done more then say hello to them. It felt awkward, for some reason. Maybe he was over-exaggerating it in his mind, but it still made him a touch sad that Y'ir had transferred, and to Fort of all places. That was one reason Eybith had encouraged him so heavily to greet this next new arrival. The sooner he could feel comfortable with the new crowd the less stressful things would be. Plus if he could get over his nervousness maybe he could get a close look at the new dragons, who he'd need to keep in mind as future clutch fathers when he was making lineage charts.

What's the worst they could do? Not say thank you? Now the dragon was getting more forceful, and Mie finally stopped his fiddling and stood, plate of edibles in hand. "Deep breaths. No squeaky voice. I can do this. I'll meet you over there?" I'd rather we do it that way, who knows how big their ledge is. I'm sure once you introduce us Sybanth will be welcoming enough to me joining her ledge. I am handsome enough to impress. Mie smiled fondly at Eybith's confidence and nodded.

The new pair's weyr wasn't a far trek from his own, he took direction from Eybith who had settled in the bowl. She is very hard to miss, if you look inside and see neon pink on the dragon you'll know you're in the right place.

After another deep breath and the plastering on of a smile Mie knocked, then waited for an answer and held the plate before him like a shield against any potential irritation at the interruption headed his way. From his position peering upwards Eybith went ahead and introduced himself to the green. Good day! I am Eybith, and my rider is currently the one knocking on your door. We're also in Granite, and wanted to welcome you, transferring must be terribly difficult. May I come up? It would be a shame to let such a beautiful green be alone on an equally beautiful day. Charm oozed from the brown's voice.

It was in the midst of her suspicious peering that Sybanth noticed a person approaching her ledge. A human person. With plates of... foodstuffs? Why was this? She didn't know, but it didn't seem very normal. Her eyes narrowed and began to whirl with shades of yellow and orange. There is a human coming, she informed her rider. He brings plates. Before her rider could get a word in, Mie stepped onto their ledge. The tip of her tail began to twitch as she started up once more. He's on our ledge! What do you think he wants? Nothing good, I'll bet. Probably one of those trouble makers. I think I-

So'rik cut his dragon off. Don't do anything. The notion of asking someone what they wanted before jumping to conclusions wasn't one that frequently occurred to Sybanth. He rubbed his temples, her rambling and spike of anxiety having sparked the beginnings of a headache. A mental grumble echoed through their bond. He is approaching the door now. This was said moments before he knocked. With a nod, the greenrider moved to open it.

Eybith's words reached Sybanth as her rider pulled the door open. There is a dragon now, Eybith. He says they're from the Granite Wing and want to welcome us. But... no one's that nice. It's probably a scheme. He wants to come up to our ledge... So'rik, what if they're scouting us out? Let him up, came So'rik's speedy reply. Did you hear me? What if they're trying to take our stuff!? I told you, oh, I told you! You don't bring welcoming plates to rob someone, Syb. Now let him up. The green hissed slightly. A clever robber would.

The greenrider groaned and pinched the bridge of his nose. Shards and shells. Hopefully she wouldn't be this paranoid for long. But knowing Sybanth? As soon as this worry faded it would be replaced by another. Maybe some grand conspiracy, or someone that could not be trusted and must be avoided at all costs. He lowered his hand and offered Mie a pained smile. "You must by Eybith's rider. I'm sorry if Sybanth gave you any trouble." He didn't doubt that the green had done her fair share of hissing at the rider. Stepping aside he offered, "you can come in, if you like." As he did this he gave his dragon a mental prod. Sybanth.

A huff left the dragon. Fine. She reached out to the brown and answered, you may come up, Eybith, but do not get too close to our stuff. Oh, she would notice if anything went missing. She'd been sure to keep a thorough inventory throughout the entire process of moving in.
