Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

A healer had helped get Luca to her weyr and then left them with a muttered good luck to Thoia as soon as Luca was gotten to sit down. Thoia could not at all blame the Healer. She'd spent as much time as her schedule had allowed visiting Luca during her Infirmary stay, and she was aware of exactly what the woman had put the Healers through. Not that she entirely blamed her. Her back was in bad shape, even with the sutures, and the woman was not one to take well to being told to be still for an extended time.

"Emmy, I'm sure you know, but we're here. And now it's just on the two of us to keep ours from doing anything stupid, and no, we're not allowed to just keep her fellised until they take out the sutures." She had asked. Not honestly for her own sake, but because it was the only way she saw Luca getting through this without doing something stupid because she couldn't stand the thought of being "careful" for one heartbeat longer.

She then turned to look at the woman she had had to admit to herself when she first learned of their injuries that she did love and did not want to lose and smiled. "Come on. You are allowed to walk, just slowly and carefully, but I imagine what you need more than anything else is to touch Emmy. Let's get you to him, shall we?"

"Good riddance," Luca muttered under her breath, glaring over her shoulder at the retreating healer despite the tug on her neck and upper back muscles. She'd heard his comment to Thoia, and it had rankled on her nerves. As if the healers had any right to be angry or annoyed with her. They had been the ones to force her into two sevendays of bed rest in the stinking infirmary. Granted, she couldn't quite remember most of the first sevenday, as she'd been drugged out of her mind, but the second had been horrendous. No moving. No drilling. No Emmeth. He'd been in her head, but it hadn't been the same at all. Only visits from N'ik, Thoia, and some other friends had kept her from going completely mad. When they weren't around, she'd had to resort to messing with the healers, simply to have something to do. It was safe to say that all of them, with the possible exception of Kidrai, hated her now.

Well, maybe they do have a bit of a right to be annoyed, she thought, stretching out her legs as she sat back in the chair. Her back twinged uncomfortably, and she winced with a sharp intake of breath. The damage had, apparently, been substantial. She believed it; moving sharding hurt. The pain had lessened in the two sevendays of rest, but it was still there, lurking underneath stitched-together skin.

There was a thump outside as Emmeth landed on his ledge. The blue had been circling, unable to keep still himself while his rider hobbled back to their weyr. He prowled inside, his eyes the brightest shade of green they'd been since the Fall. A p-pity about the f-fellis, eh? he teased lightly, poking his head into the doorway of the sitting room. T-thank y-you, Thoia.

"Yes, don't worry, I'm not right here or anything." Luca grinned, though, both at her dragon and at her lover. They really had kept her sane throughout this whole messy ordeal. Leaning forward with a stiffness that made her grit her teeth, she slowly stood up. Feck, that is not okay. Squeezing her eyes shut, she took a breath through her nose and then smiled at Thoia. "I'm allowed to walk, huh? Didn't realize I needed permission to perform basic human functions." Winking, she turned and tried to walk out of the room without a limp. It was not a successful endeavor. Before she even reached the door, she needed to pause for a breather.

Let Thoia h-help you, I-Idiot, Emmeth murmured, his mind voice rumbling. I have w-waited two s-sevendays. I can w-wait a f-few more s-seconds.

"Yes, well, I can't." Luca pouted petulantly, wishing she could cross her arms without hurting.

"You can." Carefully, ever so carefully, as they had shown her in the infirmary, she wrapped an arm around her lover's back, careful not to bump or touch the stitches. "And yes, you, right now, have to be allowed to walk, and careful when you do so or you will be even longer recovering. And I know it's torture, but we will take it slow. He's right there. We're going to him, but slowly." The idea of Luca ripping the stitches because she was in a hurry to get to Emmeth and then not getting to him. Thoia could see it, and she would not allow it.

"One step at a time. We'll get you gently settled and then I'll bring you some water ok? Luca, you know as well as everyone else this is the price of being a dragon rider and hero of Pern. Now for Emmeth's sake, if not your own, will you try not to stubborn yourself into a longer recovery?" Her voice was a mixture of teasing and serious concern as she helped Luca make the short and yet far too long walk.

With her other hand, she gently traced random patterns over Luca's lower arm, so that even as she helped her walk, there was a gentle, soothing, loving touch. Her short lecture done, she smiled to the concerned Blue, "And you're welcome, dear, though I'm tempted to tease you about not needing to thank me."

Once Luca was settled, then she would check on Gale and then see if Hope could come without him causing chaos. "One step at a time, lo-uca. We're almost there."

Says the woman who doesn't know what it's like, Luca thought, only just managing to refrain from voicing the thought out loud. Guilt flooded her just for thinking it, and she could only imagine how bad she would have felt if she'd actually said it. Her spine stiffened upon the touch of Thoia's arm, though it was not near her stitches. Her entire back was sensitive. She couldn't help the reaction. She allowed the extra help, though she refused to lean against Thoia. She could sharding walk. Even if, as Thoia so kindly reminded her, she needed permission to do so. "Right. Slow, shmo." She would have mock-saluted Thoia if she could have.

It was far too long--and far too embarrassing--of a walk. Being lectured by a candidate only made it that much worse. Luca shut her eyes, taking more deep breaths. She knew that she shouldn't lash out at Thoia, even in her head. This wasn't Thoia's fault. Thoia was being wonderful and helpful and perfect as ever. So patient. Her worry was touching, in a way, and so Luca listened to the lecture seriously. That didn't mean her reply had to be serious, though. "I'm no scholar," she finally said, an arm curling around Thoia's hip, "But I don't think 'stubborn' is a verb."

S-she'll behave, Emmeth promised for her, backing away from the entryway so that the two woman could enter the great room. A snort escaped him, as he stretched his neck forward to carefully nudge Thoia. H-hush, you. I am allowed t-to thank y-you in t-this c-case. He didn't remember the night that Thoia was referring to, but he was sure that she bore no malice in her teasing.

"You can't promise for me," Luca retorted, but her voice was breathless and relieved as Emmeth finally lowered his head into her arms. Pain be damned; she wrapped his muzzle in a tight embrace, a strangled sound catching in her throat at the pull in her back. I missed you so much, Emmy.

And I you, Mine. Never get hurt again. Emmeth pressed against his bonded's torso as hard as he dared, squeezing his eyes shut and curling a forepaw around her legs and lower back. I was very worried. He didn't need memory to know that.

I don't know why. I'm tough as nails. Nothing can keep me down long. Luca breathed in the spicy scent of dragon, turning her head so that she could both rest her cheek on Emmeth's nose and look at her lover. There was a look of utter, unguarded bliss on her face as she murmured, "Lo-uca's a funny nickname, doll. Not quite sure how I feel about it."

Y-you are mean...

Hmm. I know.

"You make it one at times." She smiled at the teasing and even laughed at Emmeth's response and gentle nudge. But as Luca hugged Emmeth, Thoia's eyes went to Luca's back at the hug. Careful. Careful.

"Hmm...I agree, it doesn't roll of the tongue very easily." She knew why she'd censured herself. It wasn't for the same reasons Luca had in the past or even she had. This was Luca and Emmeth's moment and she would not take it away from them, even if they all knew what she had almost said.

"Ok...let's get you seated. Or situated however is comfortable for you, of course, in contact with the far too wonderful for the likes of you." She winked to show she really was just teasing, smiling as she did so, "and long-suffering Emmeth. No pressure on your back." Thoia's smile drooped slightly as she move to gently pull at Luca's arms, "It's not fair, but you can't strain your back until after the skin has healed, Luca, let go." And it wasn't fair. Thoia didn't need a dragon to know that. "Let's get you settled and you can touch all you want, ok?"

"That it does not," Luca agreed, and she couldn't help but wonder if Thoia had meant to say what she'd thought she'd meant to say. If she had... Luca felt her heart skip, and her belly twisted. She was aware of her own feelings. She had been aware for some time now. Emmeth had been aware for even longer, and he had very strong suspicions that Thoia was suffering from a similar affliction to his bonded. Both dragon and rider stared intensely at Thoia for a moment, until the woman mentioned sitting.

The muscles in Luca's arms clenched tightly, forming a harmless vice grip around Emmeth's snout. Her back screamed, and she bit her lip. She couldn't let go, even if she'd wanted to. She needed to stay there with Emmeth. Thoia's first tugs on her arms loosened her grip only a bit, but it was enough for Emmeth to gently disengage himself. He gazed gently down at his rider, thrumming deeply. Listen t-to H-Hopes, O-Ours.

Sighing in defeat, Luca dropped her arms and leaned back against Thoia. "Idiots, the lot of you." She shook her head, feigning a cough as she raised a hand to wipe her eyes. She was not crying. The stench of dragon was just very strong after two sevendays of not smelling it. "Far too wonderful for the likes of me, huh?" Arching an eyebrow, she carefully turned to regard Thoia with guarded amusement. "I'll get you back for that comment. Em's not the only one I want to touch, love." Oh, the expression on her face would be enough to tell Thoia that she knew. That she was toying with her.

Snickering, and turning her back to Thoia so the younger woman wouldn't see her grimace, Luca leaned against Emmeth's head. Where's Gale?

I believe he is debating on whether or not to chase Nymeria. She is glowing.

Gross. Luca wrinkled her nose. Any chance of you stopping him? I'm...not in the mood. But keep him away, so Hope can come over.

That's not nice. Emmeth added for Thoia, Hope may come if she wishes. Gale is out.

"Then let's get you seated," Yes, she was blushing from the scrutiny but still trying to smile even after that heart wrenching display. She wanted to apologize and let her hug as long as she wanted, but her stitches. "And I'll get you that water and sit with..."

Thoia froze even as Luca turned away, which under the circumstances, she was pretty sure was the woman trying to be brave or idiotic or something, as if Thoia didn't know that had hurt her back. She bit her lip and nodded at Emmeth's words, "I wanted to wait. This is your reunion with Emmeth. It should be about the two of you, not...us." Her words were softly spoken and there was a smile that could be heard even in her voice. "But I do. But, can we pretend I didn't almost say it a moment ago or you just now so that this really can be about you and Emmy." It wasn't that she minded sharing, it's that she didn't want to ask Emmeth to, not after two sevendays of being apart!

Again she moved to support her, "Don't lean against him. I know you want to, but I'll get a pillow to make it easier, ok? Come on, the sooner your sitting the sooner I come back with a pillow and water and sit beside you, ok?"

With her back to Thoia, Luca had no way of seeing firsthand how much the woman blushed. It was likely one of the greatest tragedies of her young life. She did not see Thoia freeze, either, though Emmeth did. The blue was tactful enough to not bring it up to his bonded. He merely blinked at Thoia, and if she was able to read him well enough, she'd see the reassurance in his dark golden-green eyes. He said nothing, though, sensing that she had words on her tongue. Instead, he reached out to touch Hope's mind, finding it with some difficulty among the myriad of star-like presences in the Weyr. Little Hope. You may come see me, if you wish.

Keep Gale away, Luca reminded him once more, unwilling to lift her head from his soft, soft nose. Faranth, she would have been content to stay there forever, back pain be damned. This...this was perfect. Or...perhaps it would have been perfect if Thoia wasn't going on about moments. Fighting every instinct to roll her eyes, Luca forced herself to shuffled around a bit, just enough so that she could look at her lover. Under normal circumstances, she would have been offended and even a bit--a lot--wounded by Thoia's wanting to forget what had been said. Now, though, knowing why Thoia wished for it, the bluerider felt her shoulders shake achingly with laughter. "Idiot," she chuckled, and it was without a doubt the fondest vocalization of the word in the history of Pern.

Emmeth made a groaning sound in his throat, and he would have shaken his head if it hadn't been supporting his rider. A s-strong word, but y-you are s-silly, T-Thoia. I already t-told you. I am h-happy to share m-my heart with o-one like y-you. N-now...g-get this i-idiot off of m-me.

"Ouch. You got me right in that pumping chest thingy," Luca mock-gasped, hand flying to her heart before she remembered that the action would hurt. A hiss of pain slid out from between suddenly-clenched teeth, and she found herself torn between leaning farther into Emmeth or cringing into Thoia's arms. For the sake of poor Emmeth's sanity, she chose the latter. "Let's go, then, darling. I want my damn pillow."

Thoia blushed but smiled at them. "I know, but even when gladly sharing it's not wrong to want some time or moments to be just yours, Emmy, and I didn't want to take that from you. That's all, I promise. Not insecurity or doubts about that, just, I know I can't even imagine how difficult the past two seven days have been for you, that's all."

She gently wrapped her arms around Luca when the woman hurt herself with what should have been a normal and simple gesture. "I got you. The healers said it shouldn't be that long until you're able to move normally, just let us restrict your movements and annoy you a bit longer, ok?" Shards this was cruel, and it hurt Thoia to see Luca having to deal with it. It was incredibly not fair.

Carefully, she lead Luca to where she could sit against Emmeth--once she got a pillow--and Emmeth could easily reach his head to her and then helped her to sit. Once the woman was settled, she kissed her softly.

It was then that Hope popped from between, looked at he person and shifted through the images in her mind. She cooed happily and then popped back out, returning in a moment struggling to carry a pillow in her talons. She was not as tiny as she'd been as a baby, but not yet full grown and the pillow was a bit awkward for her, but she managed it, bringing it to her person.

Thoia grinned as she accepted it, scritching her headknobs in award. "Thank you, Hope." The green chirped proudly, nuzzled against her person and then went to nuzzle Luca gently and then went to perch on Emmeth's head, feelings of happiness and a touch of self pride radiating from the young green. Chuckling, Thoia went about situating the pillow behind Luca so she could lean into Emmeth without pain. "Emmy, looks like you're not the only one happy to share."

Emmeth was...confused. He lifted his head and stared at Thoia over his shoulder as he moved to lay down on his couch. He simply did not understand where the candidate was coming from. It made no sense to his mind. Unsure if he wanted to question her further, he settled down and tucked his chin to his chest, deep in thought. Perhaps, if he thought about it long enough, he would figure it out on his own.

Don't hurt yourself, now, Luca teased, her head spinning just a little bit from the discomfort--not pain, nope--in her back. She dimly heard Thoia's words in her ear, as the candidate helped her over to Emmeth's side. Her mind was mostly drowning them out, though, so that she would not snap at the other woman. It simply would not be fair to her lover, if she got irritated at her for listening to the healers like, to quote Emmeth, a "sane person." So she just nodded, exhaling shakily as she sat down. At least she got a kiss out of the tiny ordeal, but that was interrupted by a startled jump on her part when Hope appeared.

"Damn flits," she muttered, smiling at the little green before she popped out. The smile faded, and she gave Thoia a questioning look that was answered when Hope reappeared with a pillow. Rolling her eyes as Thoia situated the pillow between her and Emmeth, the bluerider turned her head to bump Hope with her nose in the moment that the green nuzzled up to her. "Thanks, kiddo."

Emmeth crooned, laying his head down beside his rider and closing the inner lids of his eyes as Hope got comfortable on him. His now-clouded eyes swirled in a rather hypnotizing manner as he rumbled at Thoia. Of c-course s-she is h-happy to s-share. M-moments like t-these are b-better w-when the entire f-family is there to e-enjoy them. I-It's w-why I d-don't want m-moments just for m-me. W-we are f-family. I l-like sharing w-with y-you all.

The blue ignored his rider, who was now gaping at him open-mouthed, both impressed and a little embarrassed. "Well... Someone likes to rush into things." Was family too soon? It didn't feel too soon, but... Faranth, how would she know? Relationships like this were brand spanking new to her. So, with a chuckle, she tugged on Thoia's sleeve. "How about you gimme those lips again?"
