Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Bored. Bored out of her poor restless head. Nuin had finally gotten out of the infirmary after being trapped there for a short time. During the whole mess with the bandits she'd gotten herself badly injured. Not that she regretted it in the least; just annoying as all sharding heck.

A large blue wher had come out of nowhere while they had been trying to keep the bandits from running. It had attacked Nuisk from behind, knocking him to the ground and lunged intending to rip him apart. But Nuin had put herself between the blue and Nuisk to protect him. She took the full force of the pounce along with powerful jaws clamping themselves on her left shoulder.

The raging beast tossed her around like a rag doll before finally releasing her when Nuisk headbutted him in his side. The sweet wher would never hurt another living thing (Nuin still had to often times kill his meals for him) but he wasn't going to stand by and let the enemy kill his Nuin. He'd hit with enough force to knock the blue over and while it tried to roll back to its feet, Nuisk had dragged his Handler to safety. A healer saw to her and stopped most of the bleeding but with all the chaos they were pulled somewhere else soon.

When the fighting ended and they all were able to get home she'd been put in the infirmary and forced to stay. Nuin had grumbled, complained, and even threatened to be let out but they refused. She knew that with how torn up her shoulder was it was necessary for them to keep an eye on her but being cooped up in that place made her...twitchy. Only saving grace was when she'd get to see Hama working in the place.

Nuisk of course kept her company through it all. Every need that he could fulfill for her he'd do it in a heartbeat. Everything except bringing her a mug of ale. Healers got it in to his head that wasn't good for her at the moment. Blasphemous. Nuin thought she'd been set free when they told her she could go but sadly it wasn't to be. Once she was home Nuisk refused to let her do ANYTHING. Keeping her trapped in her room, on her bed, just like in the infirmary. There was no point telling him that she was fine, that it didn't hurt her anymore, he wasn't stupid. He knew fardling well that she was in near constant agony. That she was lucky she could even move the shoulder much less still have it attached to her body.

And so there they were. Nuin was staring at the ceiling of her room in a haze of excruciating boredom and Nuisk was laying on the floor right next to her bed. Making sure that if she tried to leave her bed he'd notice. He was snoring away but that didn't fool Nuin. She knew that if she put even a toe on the floor he'd snap awake in an instant.

As candlemarks passed and Wher dawn was upon them she let her mind wander. Thinking about time that had passed and how much she'd changed. About the people that had helped her get there. One face in particular stood out in her mind and it made her sigh in frustration.

Lyeot.

The man that managed to get under her skin and make her FEEL for him. Attraction she'd expected, he was definitely a good looking man. Feelings though? The most she'd thought she might get was a little bit of caring, maybe some infatuation, just a smidgen of a crush. But what had ended up snaking its way in and then clubbing her over the head was all that and then something even bigger. Much bigger. And it TERRIFIED her.

She went to drape her good arm across her face and felt something wet on her skin. What was that? Pulling the arm away she touched her cheeks and looked at her fingers. Water...? No. Tears. Was she crying?! Oh fardling scored Faranth. Crying. Over a feelings! Nuin wasn't about to stand for such a load of swine shaffit. There as only one solution to it, there was no running from it either.

Either kill the man or...

"Tell him how I feel. Ugh, I'm turning into a fardling girl." What the heck would she do? Just say it and hope the results are good? That didn't seem like her. Good or bad she needed to be SURE. Cause Nuin didn't waste time with something that could make her feel so vulnerable. Not if she was getting nothing in return.

Next thing she had to think about was how and when to do it. With Nuisk refusing to let her out of the bed unless they were seeing a Healer it was near impossible. It wasn't like the man was going to just show up at her door in the next few minutes on his own. Right? That's just wishful thinking.

It had taken some time for Lyeot's mind to detox all that had happened in Vaioa the past sevenday or so. He never really kept track of the time after all that Warryn had done to his friends and comrades, since his ind had been in a haze of sheer frustration and anger. Frustration at the weyr and its decision to give that sharding traitor a fair trial, anger that Warryn hadn't died in the skirmish...

But mostly, he was angered and frustrated at himself.

Lyeot never really tried to let his anger get the better of him, but could't hold back the snarl that let loose from his mouth and clenched his fist. He would have punched the wall had a voice not stopped him.

You hurt Lyeot, no hurt! Hurt bad, yes yes. Lyesk stated. You did best, fought hard. Did good, yes yes.

The wherhandler sighed, running his fingers through his hair. "I know that, buddy. I know! But... I just wished..."

He wished he could have done more.

The miner had never really felt more helpless during that fight, even with all the strength he could muster. Many of the riders, despite his present fear of the dragons, along with his own handler companions, had fallen victim to the bandits trickery. And Lyeot? Lyeot couldn't do a fardling thing.

Lyeot did good! No bad, no no! Lyesk rose to his haunches, only to step back in mild surprise when his handler scathingly replied, "Don't you get it Lyesk?!" His eyes narrowed as he sent a glare to the brown. "I didn't do a crackdusted thing! I just stood there, like some dimglowed idiot, while I saw people get hurt. Some people even died! I almost saw..."

His words dropped in volume. "I almost saw Nuin get killed out there, and..."

The words died on his tongue as he held back a noise crossed between an irritated sigh and a sob. Cautiously, the large brown stepped towards the man and placed his head on Lyeot's lap, hoping to soothe him. But, Nuisk's okay. She hurt, but not dead, no no. Nuisk's strong, she get better.

Yeah, Nuin's strong... Lyeot thought, and bit back a laugh. Faranth, she'd think me an idiot for caring about something like this. But, at the same time...

When did he come to care for her too much?

Lyeot would admit, he never though he would fall for someone like Nuin. He had always admired her strength and tenacity of spirit, despite the abrasive attitude to go along with it. In many ways, she had become stronger than he was, and he greatly enjoyed the time they had spent in each other's company. It had grown to the point like a horrid itch under his skin, and before he knew it, he had fallen for her.

And she almost died, right in front of his eyes.

JAYS! If I don't tell her something now - he leaped from his room and out the hall towards Nuin's place, Lyesk tagging behind him in surprised glee. You tell Nuisk's? You tell her, be mated, yes yes!

At the door, he paused. Fearing cold feet start to crawl towards him, Lyeot stretched out his hand and knocked on the door. "Nuin? It's me, Lyeot... Can I come in?"

There were times she wondered if she were just the butt of a long running joke, and when she heard the knock on her door with the voice to follow; she felt it was true. Of COURSE Lyeot would be at her door just when she was thinking about him. Why not? Saved her the trouble of trying to sneak out of her room to find him, right? So now she just needed to tell him to come in. Just open her mouth and invite him into her room. Nuin's lips parted and closed repeatedly like a fish gasping for air. Why couldn't she do it? Just when she felt her chest tighten with panic, her ever constant companion lifted his head with a start and let out a squeal of delight. He almost sounded like when he was still a hatchling.

FRIENDS! Yes yes yes, come in! Lyeskfriend come too? Miss friends! Sosososososo MUCH! The blood acted like he hadn't seen them in Turns. Then again Nuin knew he hadn't been socializing like he usually did for her sake. To keep an eye on her. Nuisk was up on his feet and going to wait by the door. His back-end was wiggling so much you'd think his tail would fly off any second.

"Er...yeah. Come in." She said with a bit of uncertainty. No point hesitating anymore. Nuin didn't move much. Despite Nuisk's excitement he'd still have a fit if she tried to leave the bed. So she settled with at least sitting up, being very careful with her hurt shoulder. She took deep breaths to try and calm her now racing pulse. He wasn't even in view yet and she was already feeling nervous. How stupid. 'Feelings' were a pain in the tailfork. Sure, that thought goes through her head, but there was still that thrill at the thought of seeing him again. That part didn't feel so bad. Even if it made her feel like some giddy girl; not something she ever wanted people to associate with her. Not that she gave a fardle what people thought.

Of for Faranth's cracked shell's sake stop THINKING!

Nuin finally screamed inside her own head. Her mind was still a jumbled mess but it calmed a bit. Now she just had to keep her cool while Lyeot was there and she'd be fine. Her eyes went to the door as she waited for them to come in.

If it weren't for Nuin's unusually tentative voice answering him from behind the door, Lyeot was more than likely sure he would have turned tail right then and there. That and the sounds of Nuisk's excited shuffling only confirmed that she had not left the room.

Nuisk friend, we here, yes yes! The blood wher's enthusiasm seemed to only make Lyesk even more excited to his dear friend, now looking impatiently at Lyeot. Open door and hurry!

Lyeot blinked. "R-Right..." he muttered, not realizing he did not open the door even after Nuin's affirmation. The man opened the door, and Lyesk immediately shuffled his large frame inside.

Hello Nuisk! We came, yes yes! Lyeot take long time, but we here. "Alright big guy. Don't make too much of a racket. You're gonna have somebody coming down and wondering what the feck is going on." That, and there was only so much space to accommodate two people and 2 large beasts.

"Hey," Lyeot said, eyes immediately drawn to her shoulder where the large blue wher had taken a huge bite out of the woman. "Hope you haven't been too bored sitting around here doing nothing." He gave a small smile, knowing full while that Nuin must be going absolutely berserk staying holed up in her room with nothing to do.

Pulling up a seat beside her bedspread, it took an awkward moment of silence (mostly on his part) before Lyeot said, "Is... your shoulder healing well? You took quite a beating out there from that blue..." His breath shuddered and trailed off, recalling the memory unconsciously.

Lyeot good. The brown wher said, moving to rest his head on his handler's lap and between his hand, eager for a pet. No being sad Lyeot, no no.

Chuckling, the miner ran his hand over Lyesk's neck ridges, earning a pleased rumble in reply. "Of course, buddy." Turning his eyes back to Nuin, he said, "So, what have you been up to lately? Since you've been stuck here, that is."

Maybe thinking about me, too?

Once the door was open and the brown was in his sights, Nuisk pounced with a delighted squeal. Now if it were any other murderbeast that made such a sound people would find it bizarre and just plain baffling. But Nuisk had far more in common with an overgrown puppy than any of his more violent brethren. And everyone had become used to him doing, saying, and acting strange. Such as him currently licking Lyesk's face...

Happy happy happy! So good to see friend! Missed very much! He would have continued his affections if not for the gentle nudge from Nuin to calm down. Tongue lolling from his jaws he plopped down on his rear and stared adoringly at his brown friend. Meanwhile, his handler was struggling with so many different thoughts and emotions at seeing Lyeot so soon after her little 'revelation'.

"Uh...hey." Smooth. Really smooth. Good thing he was more of a talker than she was. Her brain had temporarily taken a hike to who knows where. "Heh...I'm afraid I've been bored out of my mind. Too much time to...think." She hesitantly returned the smile but her own looked more like an awkward smirk. It was hard not to squirm when he pulled up a seat next to her bed and they both sat in silence. Why was it so hard to talk? She was a fearless warrior! Nothing scared her! Nothing could stand in her way! Yet she felt like her insides her tied in knots and her mind was melting from the strain of trying to keep herself from reverting to her old habit of reacting with violence when she was in such situations. Situations that made her feel far too vulnerable. "Yeah. My shoulder is...good. Still hurts like hell sometimes but it's good. Healers said I was lucky my arm stayed attached."

Was that a shudder in his voice? Had he been that worried about her? Why did she care if he did?

Because you care what he feels about you dingus.

The thought made her wince and sigh. Her confused emotions pulled Nuisk back to attention and while Lyesk attended to his Handler he went to Nuin.

No be sad! Is easy! Just say 'Me like you'! No hard at all! Me say for you? Me help! Nuisk had his head propped up on the side of the bed and wiggled his backside eagerly. He wanted to help his Nuin be happy again. He liked how she was when her and Lyeot spent time together. She was...gentler. Well, as gentle as someone like her could be. But his offer of 'help' was met with vicious resistance.

'Don't ya dare!' Came her snapped reply. She was quickly distracted by Lyeot talking again though. Turning her head toward him she went to lift a hand to rub at her neck only to cringe in pain. "Haven't been up ta' nothin' really. Nuisk won't let me out of the room. Doesn't wan' me ta hurt myself again." Her cheeks grew warm as she bit the inside of her cheek to keep from saying more. What had wanted to come out was: 'And wondering if you were thinking about me'. Course...she should have known she wouldn't be keeping that thought to herself...

Yes yes yes! Me keep Nu safe! No more bad hurts. Nu think of friend lots. Lots. And lots. Want come all time! You do same? Yes? Miss my Nu? He was certain Lyesk's had missed Nuin as much as she missed him. They were best friends! Or maybe more? Nuisk often saw Nuin thinking about being mates with Lyesk's. He'd be overjoyed at such a thing happening!

"I...uh.." She looked stupefied by Nuisk taking her thoughts and throwing them at Lyeot so easily. And she could feel her face burning as a result and it only made her feel even more like running. She HATED blushing! It was something timid people did! But maybe it was a chance...She was JUST telling herself that she needed to open up to the man. "Yeah. I missed you." Wow. So revealing there genius. She was groaning loudly inside at her own tone that was basically daring him to say something about her words.
