Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

It was nearing the end of the day and, as always, Alease still felt there was more to accomplish. The final break of the day before lights out just wasn't long enough, as far as she was concerned. She was intent to make the best of this time. And that meant leaving her room and exploring.

On her way through the Candidate Barracks, Alease made the inevitable stop in the common room that connected both the male and female dorms as well as led the way to the exit. What was meant to be 'just passing through' ended up becoming an actual full stop, though, when she spotted the myriad of hides and slabs splayed over the table and couches. "Whooooa." Her jaw hung open, but Alease's lips lifted into what was perhaps an unexpected joyful smile.

There was only one boy sitting amidst all of the documents. And she wasn't so much speaking to him as simply voicing her thoughts and letting them float in the ether, but it would be natural, as he was the only person there, for him to assume that she was speaking to him. "What are all of these?" she asked as she approached. "What are these on?" She picked one up and began to read. They seemed to cover all sorts of topics from the looks of it. What was the connecting theme? There had to be one.

"Who brought all of these here?" Was it one of the masters, perhaps? Maybe all the masters. Maybe they wanted to encourage more studying. Maybe some of the candidates hadn't been doing so and they'd taken notice? Well, if that was so, this actually seemed to be a brilliant idea! "It's like a setup for a group study sort of thing! That's so great!!"

Only now did she seem to take in the older candidate's presence. Had she really not noticed him before? She looked straight at him and, beaming in excitement, asked, "Do you know about this?"

Glows set their gentle light upon a scene of subdued chaos, the shadows they cast like ink spills flooding between every rise and drop that decorated the table surface and beyond. Neatly situated in the epicentre of this was Yiandale, tucked upon the couch that, upon closer examination, was as equally covered in sheets as the table in front of it.

It was drawing on late now, and lights out would be upon them before long. Candidates had either turned in early or were out fitting as much 'me time' in as they could before curfew, but not many had chosen to hang around the Commons tonight.

It was all well and good as far as Yian was concerned. It meant less odd looks and the need to explain the mess he had so easily created. He knew what he was doing right now. This was, quite simply put, him stressing, and he might as well get comfortable in the pocket world he created because he doubted he'd be sleeping tonight either.

It was silly to be as worked up over this as he was, he knew. Those eggs have only graced the sands a short while yet, there was still a fair wait to go. But it was the fact that they were there, in that cavern, waiting, baking, that had affected Yiandale so. Time flew, this his knew well too. Dragons will be climbing out of those shells in no time.

He wanted to be hopeful. He probably knew better.

Yian sighed, forgoing on rereading the paragraph he completely missed. He wasn't so much taking in the words anymore as he was simply tracing over them anyway, distracting himself in the sounds that filled his head as he fed them into the wide expanse. He'd already been through this section three times over as it was, so there was no real loss.

But perhaps even sound was getting monotonous, for he was pretty sure he just thought in a pitch far from his own. Perplexed, Yiandale glanced up in time to see a rather small lass taking up one of the many sheets, words tumbling out of her one after another. Oh, so it wasn't him after all. This sluggish pace of thought evaporated the instant she turned those bright eyes his way though, the excitement of her discovery nearly palpable.

"Oh yes, I certainly do," he replied cheerily, a tone that was automatic. Putting aside the page in hand and rising from his languid slouch, just enough to set bare feet upon stone, Yian defaulted to a smile. "I brought it in. Er, with the help of a friend I mean." Indeed, Trish must've thought him silly when he asked for all this, let alone as she helped him haul it in. Glancing over the collection for what it was, he tilted his head in consideration. She was interested… right?

"It's a whole assortment of things really, of stuff we get taught. Well okay, a bit more than what we usually get. That side," he gestured to one end of the table, "has everything from the small store we've got in here." Comparing that to the rest, it really wasn't much. "The rest I pulled in from the records room. Been building it a while, it's what I've found to be helpful supplements to the physical lessons."

Realising he'd kinda gone off on a ramble, Yiandale wrung his hands and dropped back to the sheet he relinquished, scanning a few words for comfort. Stable ground regained, he returned his grey-eyed gaze to the young girl.

"Do you like study?" He ventured. She'd certainly given the impression so, but confirmation never hurt.

Even if Yiandale thought that he was rambling and for too long, Alease listened to every word and only became more astounded and excited over the collection of information quite literally at their fingertips. The idea of having lesson supplements was a great one! Overjoyed to have learned even only what she had, she hadn't thought about the possibility of further research. Alease's world just seemed to move too quickly for the thought to cross her mind.

But now that it was there, it was like she'd come smack in the face with a giant rock that she really should've seen she was about to speed into. It was a wonderful rock, though. Maybe a rock wasn't the right word. A pillow? That seemed better. It was a gigantic, pleasant, cushy pillow that she'd crashed into. She smiled at the image.

Though, immediately, the thought of pillows reminded her that bedtime was soon to rear its ugly head. No! She'd just found this treasure trove!! She had to at least look at some of it. Making sure she reached with careful hands, she grabbed at one of the hides on the table. Her eyes only scanned the page briefly, for now, but her smile returned. She would definitely read it at some point!

Her mind, currently, was more on the conversation. "I do!" she answered, her bright eyes turning to him. Alease gave an enthusiastic nod. "I love learning new things!" Going over the things that she learned... Well, that she wasn't so sure about, but she didn't think to say it. "It's so cool that you thought to do this!"

Alease's eyes fell back to the hide in her hand as she propped herself up to the vacant arm of the couch. But again her attention was pulled away as she remembered that she hadn't even introduced herself. "Oh!" Her eyes flashed back to Yiandale. "I'm Alease, by the way! It's nice to meet you!"
