Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

V'sin was in trouble. He'd made the mistake of swiping a meatroll that he hadn't realized a certain gold firelizard had been after. Apparently she'd been sitting there in wait while her human had been looking for someone. It was a shame the brown rider hadn't noticed her, but now he would pay. With blood from the look of the swirling red eyes that were currently chasing him.

Well it is sort of your fault... Ardith commented, a touch of amusement coloring his voice even as he attempted to shove down the worry that he was feeling. V'sin did not like firelizards and having one chase him around wasn't going to help any. Hopefully the little one wouldn't hurt him.

I didn't see her! V'sin shot back, trying not to let his face show how much he was freaking out at the moment. Not only was there a fardling firelizard after him, but it was a gold who was apparently territorial about her food! From now on he promised he would always look before grabbing any sort of food. "I'm sorry I ate it!" He called back to the gold, only to get a screech of outrage in return.

Well feck. At least R'ken and T'vir weren't around to see this. Those two would tease about it forever if they got word of it. V'sin being chased down by a firelizard and him running for his life. Hmph, if R'ken ever heard about this he'd just find a wherry to send after the bronze weyrling. See how he liked it.

When the beating wings started to sound closer, V'sin picked up his speed. Thankfully he had a long stride so he was able to keep out of the gold's reach. At least until he shifted his attention from behind him to where he was going and, oh shaffit. There was a person right in the way. Cursing to himself, the young man attempt to shift his course so as not to straight out run the woman over but just managed to trip himself and landed on the floor.

Ripe for the pickings of vengeance from the firelizard. With a victorious growl, the gold dived for V'sin's head even as he attempted to cover it with his arms. Oh, he would pay for stealing her food. No one crossed her and got away with it unscathed! Not even her human.

V'sin do I need to come help you? She looks to be very angry.

You don't say! I thought she was overjoyed to see me and just wanted a cuddle. Okay, his sarcasm was a bit harsh for his poor Ardith. The brown was only worried for him, but hopefully he'd just let the evil thing have her 'revenge' and be on her way. Then he could just pretend none of this had ever happened. Yes, that sounded like a good idea.

There is no but, that is all.
Removing her riding coat and folding it over her arm as she entered the lower caverns halls, Zannah sighed in relief. The warm article was great for when she was jumping between and flying in the colder air but it wasn’t needed at the moment. She had her heart set on getting a small snack from the kitchen before she was needed elsewhere.

Are you ok, mine?

Stumbling backwards dark eyes widened in fear as she stared at the man currently sprawled out on the floor. Her hand sought purpose on the stone walls of the hallway. She’d been caught off guard by the fast moving man. Who just ran through the halls like that? Frowning she took note of the very angry firelizard that darted up the hall.

“Wh-what…”

She’d never seen one of the little beauties so angry before. It was startling. But they were like mini dragons so it shouldn’t be too big of a surprise that they could be dangerous when angered.

Lil’ one is hungry Theriath’s indifferent tone informed Zannah that she didn’t like the comparison to the little gold.

Zannah took a step forward noting as the little gold tensed to dive at her prey. Zannah knelt down quickly throwing her riding jacket over the others head before looking into the golden queens little eyes.

“Come now pretty one… theres no need for that…” She smiled kindly, her voice soft and non threatening as she tried to calm the angry flitter. She loved firelizards, but never had the chance to have one of her own. “I’m sure… what ever he has done… was horrible.” Zannah mentally frown hoping he wouldn’t get angry with her. It would be just what she needed, someone getting angry when she tried to help. “But I’m...sure we can fix what… he’s done….”

Zannah moved her hand slowly to rest on the shoulder of the boy, man? Trying to give him even a little support. Theriath hummed in her mind, no doubt happy that her rider was interacting willing with another person.

V'sin stiffened slightly as a jacket was thrown over his head. Oh no. Someone was sticking around to see his, most recent, embarrassing moment. Well, he wouldn't protest if the ground opened up and swallowed him whole right now.

Well I would! Wait...the ground can't really do that...can it? The brown looked down at the ground he was currently laying on. Hopefully not. Just to be sure though Ardith stood up and moved to a different spot, this one closer to the entrance of the Lower Caverns where he could peek in to see if he could see his rider.

Screeching as her target was hidden by the jacket, the gold shifted her angry eyes to the female two legger who was blocking her prey from her. Who was this and why were they trying to protect the thief? Actually it didn't matter who this human was, she was in the way and...wait, what had she said? Pretty one? Yes, yes she was quite pretty. The prettiest gold the Hold had ever seen, for sure. Not even these Weyr golds could compare to her.

V'sin made a face as the woman, of course it had to be a fardling woman who saw him like this, attempted to calm the evil beast by agreeing that what he'd done was horrible. It hadn't been that bad! He never would've touched the food if he'd known she'd had an eye on it! Maybe she should've been faster.

Now, now. You wouldn't want to make the little one angrier, would you?

I'm sooo glad you're amused by this. Weren't you worried about me just a moment ago?

That was before the lady with the kind voice decided to rescue you.

Almost jumping out of his skin when a hand was placed on his shoulder, V'sin buried his head further into his arms. Ugh, not only was he hiding from a firelizard, he was also scared by a girl touching his shoulder. This day needed to end before he embarrassed himself even more.

Looking back and forth from Zannah and V'sin, the gold seemed to be debating her choices for a moment. The female had appealed to her vain side which had distracted her from most of her anger, but she couldn't let the thief get away without some justice. Huffing to herself, she landed on V'sin and slowly moved her way to a part of him that wasn't covered by the jacket. Ignoring the way the young man's body stiffened in fear, the gold leaned down and bit V'sin hard enough to draw blood from his shoulder and a yelp from his throat. Happy with herself, she let go and pushed herself back into the air before blinking away to find some food that wouldn't be stolen.

A hand shot up to grab the wound the gold had given him as he pushed himself up into a sitting position. V'sin glared at the ground for a moment as he pulled the jacket from his head and stared at it.

Thank the nice lady.

I will! Glancing upwards with obvious embarrassment and just a hint of frustration, V'sin offered the jacket back to Zannah. "Uh...thanks for that. And the rescue." Checking the hand that had grabbed the wound there was blood there. Cursing the gold mentally, he pulled his shirt back slightly from his shoulder to get a good look. Yep a clear, well bloody really, bite mark. "Ahh, I dunno why everyone likes those things. One wrong move and the things get all angry." Okay, he did 'steal' the beast's lunch but it wasn't on purpose. Remind me never to get one of those things, yeah?

Worry filled her as the little gold took her revenge on the helpless figure on the floor. She felt him tense at her touch and had removed her hand the second he’d yelp in pain. Flinching back at the sudden loud noise.

Zannah let a small sign slipped from her lips as the little gold blinked between. Thank goodness She didn't know what she’d done if the little gold hadn't given up its pursuit. She could only imagine what would have happened if the gold had changed her target to her…Zannah considered herself very lucky that everything had worked out, for the most part.

It took her a moment to register his words, she turned her dark eyes onto him panic filling her.

“N-nooo.. I… you see….” She stumbled over her words, her voice barely audible now, as she tried to find something interesting on the floor.

Just say you're welcome. Theriath’s voice chuckled in her mind. For once Zannah couldn't blame the friendly, interfering green for her current predicament. This one was her own doing.

“S-sure… my..pleasure.” Zannah smiled kindly.

She jumped slightly as the… man, yep he wasn't much older than she… offered her jacket back. She took it with shaking hands, pulling it to her chest as if it could protect her. stupid stupid She’d drawn attention to herself by helping… and now she’d have to deal with the... bleeding male in front of her.

“She’s.. the first I-I’ve seen like...that…” she let her eyes drift to where the little gold had previously been, before looking at the wound. “Oh, here…”

Reaching into her jacket pocket she pulled out a handkerchief, a small flower was stitched on it corner. Holding it out to the wounded party. She remembered how he’d responded to her touching him. The last thing she wanted was to make him uncomfortable.

Huh, it seemed as if his rescuer was the shy type. Or maybe it was just because of the gold's attitude? Who knew. Blinking as the woman pulled the jacket to her chest like a shield, he couldn't help but raise a brow. Did she think he was going to hurt her or something? Or was that just part of the shy thing?

Maybe if you stop frowning. Ardith gently reminded him. He'd have to remember this whole incident to tell his clutch brothers about. This would be a good way for him to practice his conversational skills.

"Huh, really? Maybe it's just that they hate me then." V'sin said, ignoring the idea that maybe they knew he was afraid of them and that made him an easy target. That just made them even more terrifying. Why did people keep these things as pets? Outside of their usefulness. Not that Ardith wasn't just as capable of passing messages...oh wait. He still had trouble talking to other dragons. Him speaking to another person outside of V'sin was still extremely rare.

Getting back up to his feet, V'sin brushed the dirt from his pants before his attention was pulled back to Zannah as she offered him a handkerchief. Was this to stop the bleeding? Tilting his head slightly, he reached out to lightly touch the offered item before dropping his hand. "Thanks but it'll stop bleeding soon enough. I wouldn't want to ruin your handkerchief." He gave her a small grin in hopes that the embarrassment still swirling around inside him would fade eventually.

"Oh, and sorry for the jumping when ya touched me. I thought ya were the evil gold there for a moment. It was nice of ya to..uh, well, to rescue me." Reaching up, he ran a hand through his hair. "I'm really bad with firelizards."

“Are you sure?” Zannah smiled back, her eyes filled with confusion, standing as well. She looked at the small piece of fabric in her hand, unsure for a moment. Ruin something that was meant to be used? Did it look special? “I… don’t mind… I… ha-have more.”

silly little pieces, i like your sketches better. Theriath hummed, she disliked when her rider would spend time with her little needles. “Theriath….” the dragons name was barely a whisper, but she blushed noticing her slip.

As she listened to him once again thank her. Her cheeks reddening with embarrassment. She hadn't done much. Wouldn't anyone have come to his aid? Looking up and down the empty hall she realized someone might not have been here to help.

“I...we-well…” She frowned, “I’m..happy I co-could help..” Zannah smiled as he explained his comfortableness. it did help relieve her fear. She’d really been worried she’d overstepped when she’d touched him.

She tilted her head slightly, “I-I’m sure.. with practice…”

And facing your fear, clumsy one. A friendly female voice spoke to both riders, well rider and weyrling.

“Oh… dear… I’m… she…” Zannah looked truly embarrassed, You can’t just call someone clumsy.

Why not, he fell didn't he? The green chuckled pleased with herself.

Okay, he sorta did want to use the handkerchief to get rid of the blood before his friends could see. But he also wanted to keep the last bit of his manly pride that the had left; as small as it currently was. V'sin would just have to figure out a good story for why he was bleeding that didn't involve him fleeing from a firelizard. "Nah, it's fine. A little blood won't kill me."

Tilting his head slightly as the woman whispered something before blushing, V'sin got a better look at his rescuer. Ahh, yep. She was a rider so her dragon was probably saying something to her. But something to make her blush? Then again his own relationship with his dragon was almost the reverse. Ardith would've turned garnet a few times if dragons were able to blush. What a sight that might've been.

With practice? Oh shards, she thought sticking him around more of those things would make it better? No, no. It would be worse. Or would it? Not much could be worse than an angry gold after you.

She may be right. Just like I have to practice talking to others, you should practice spending time with the little ones.

Before V'sin could retort, another voice entered his head to agree with the idea of facing his fear. A female but not one he'd heard before so probably the dragon half of the green pair. Narrowing his eyes slightly at the clumsy remark, V'sin waited a beat before letting a lazy grin tug at his lips. "I suppose I did look pretty clumsy, what with falling down and all. I was just trying not to end up running ya over."

Theriath left her Perch and glided down to the entrance of the lower cavern, taking note of the young Brown peeking into the entrance. She hummed kindly as she folded her wings shaking her head as she turned her gaze to the entrance.

Amusing is it not, young one. She spoke only to the brown, her eyes swirling with amusement. The green even when sitting still seemed full of energy the yellow stripes on her hide stark and bright like the sun.

Zannah blushed darkened, of course Theriath had to make this worse. She hadn't found his actions clumsy. He could have been hurt trying to avoid her, which in the situation he’d been in was surprising he’d been so quick footed.

“I… she…” Shards, couldn't she get her thoughts together. She’d gotten better while on her transfer with dealing with people, or so she thought. But maybe that had been the people she’d befriended.

Very possible, mine. Your friends helped… make one. the teasing was back in the green’s tone.

She understood fears. Dealt with her own every day, really a rider scared of people was a foolish rider. They were expected to protect, who wanted to be protected by a scared little girl? Practice helped. Friends help. Mainly Theriath helped.

Taking a deep breath she looked up at him, opening her mouth to speak before looking down at her feet again. So much for being brave. She softly said, “I… thank you for that….” she made an awkward motion with the hand that still held the handkerchief, “Not… runn-running into me...I mean…” She smiled, looking up at him now.

Jumping back as a voice reached out to him, Ardith turned to the older green with surprise and a bit of worry. Where had she come from? Wait, she was talking to him. What did he say? What was he supposed to say? Wiggling uncomfortably for a moment, he sat back on his haunches and stared.

It's not polite to stare.

Oh right. A bit amusing, yes. But only because the little one didn't end up hurting mine too much. At least it didn't seem like it was too bad. Why are parts of you yellow? Oops, that wasn't polite either, was it?

V'sin chuckled. He really couldn't help it, she was pretty awkward with him. Wasn't it supposed to be the other way around, since she had been the one to find him like this and all. "Well, I do try to make sure I don't run over more than one person a day. I gotta have a limit." He was teasing, obviously. Ardith would throw a fit if he even tried to run over someone.

Well first of all, it's not nice. Second, it could hurt them. You don't want to hurt anyone do you, V'sin?

That's why I moved buddy. He replied to keep the brown from working himself into a worry fit.

"Since you've seen me during an embarrassing moment, I should probably at least introduce myself." Sticking out a hand, he gave Zannah a grin. "I'm V'sin. Ardith is my partner in crime but he's out in the bowl with who I'm guessing is your green?"

Theriath watched the brown under an understanding eye. He was very like her rider it seemed. Theriath tilted her head slightly thinking of the browns question. Humming she lowered her head to the browns level That, young one, is like asking why you are brown. I’t just so.

Zannah was confused, he made a point in only knocking over one person. Why would he. oh…Brown eyes widened, as she realized he was joking.I feel like a dimglow.

Why? You are not dim. The green scolded her rider, unsure why she was insulting herself. There was never a reason for that. he was joking, I didn't realize at first. Understanding filled the link between the dragon and rider.

It was amusing, she gave a small giggle, “I… guess k-knocking to many… p-people down would be … troublesome.” She relaxed slightly. People didn’t tend to joke with her. It was nice. His joking also made light of the situation, not that Zannah saw anything embarrassing about it. It wasn't really his fault the little gold had been so aggressive, the little ones nature couldn't be helped.

She placed the handkerchief back into her jacket pocket, before extending her hand slowly taking his. “Greeting V’sin…” She smiled “I’m...Zannah, and Theriath i-is indeed with your Ardith”

Mine, young one is like you. Zannah didn’t know how to take that, like her how?

“Its… n-nice to meet...you…” She mentally frowned. She was doing so good there until the end. Practice practice.
