Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

We are going to see a friend of yours? Ardith questioned, a bit nervous about meeting someone that wasn't one of his classmates. Not that he wasn't nervous around most of his classmate in the first place, but this was someone he'd never met before and whom his V'sin had conflicting feelings about. Even now he could feel the worry that his rider felt about going to see this Ritali. But what would V'sin be worried about? The brown hadn't seen his rider be worried about something like this since...well, he'd never seen it. Which fueled his nerves even more.

"Yeah, she's basically my best friend? We were candidates together for what feels like forever!" V'sin grinned, reaching down to stroke the brown's head for a moment. "I haven't really had the chance to seek her out since we've been so busy so I figured why not take this chance while we could? Should be free time for them as well." He mused, furrowing his brows slightly before shrugging. "If not we can just drag her away from whatever she's doing! I'm pretty sure she's going to looove meeting you!" At least he hoped so. He knew it had to be hard to be left behind like that. Shards, even he had thought that when they did Impress it would be together. At the same time.

She wouldn't hate him for it right?

Crooning, Ardith pressed himself against Vuka's leg in an attempt to soothe his worries. I am sure she does not hate you. She might hate me though for taking you away... Eyes started to whirl faster as he realized that this girl might think that. Oh no! What if she does hate me? What if she gets mad at you because of me and does not want to talk to you again? Oh no, will you apologize for me?

V'sin blinked before chuckling and lightly tapped on Ardith's head. "Woooah there. Slow down. She's not going to hate you so there's no reason to apologize. Everything will be fine, yeah? You'll see." Grinning and pushing his own worries to the side so they would help Ardith with his own, V'sin started leading the way to the candidate barracks where he hoped Ritali would be. If not he could find someone to tell him where, she never had any problems with finding new friends to spend time with.

It was a short walk and into the barrack's common room he went, brown shadow following closely behind as his eyes swept around the room. And of course eyes did fall on him. Some curious, others holding that jealous look some of the failed candidates had whenever they saw the weyrlings. So many eyes on them had Ardith pressed himself closer to his rider while V'sin just grinned and blew kisses at the candidates. To which he was payed back with glares. Ahh, good times. "Sorry to drop in, but has anyone seen a candidate named Ritali?"

Rit was no sulking. It wasn't something she simply didn't do.

Of course, some of the other candidates might have thought she was, given her lack of socialness that she had displayed lately. But she wasn't sulking, she was merely...thinking. Or going through a huge mental readjustment. After not Impressing, 'loosing' some friends, getting injured, her talk with T'nere and Zakroth, and eventual realisation that she had not, in fact, failed anyone, she had needed some time to think. She was still being held from most chores and had not been required to attend the last few candidate lessons (the thinking being that she knew it all anyway so there was no point in straining herself too much) so she had had a lot of time to think and come to terms with the changes.

Usually she just sat in the Lounge of the Candidate Barracks, but if there were no chores or lessons and most of the other candidates were around, she retreated off to her room. She had realised that she didn't like being around them (or some of them at least) they were too cheerful and optimistic and most had moved on from the failed Hatching without any problems, while Rit was getting there, their casualness grated on her nerves too much for her to do any deep thinking around them.

She was laying on her back, propped up on some pillows for support, staring up at the ceiling (a bad habit she had picked up after spending so long doing the same thing in the infirmary) when she faintly, but distinctly heard her name. She sat up slowly, frowning a little because she thought she reorganised the voice but why would he be at the Candidate Barracks?

Moving carefully as she still had to, she headed down the corridor, sticking her head around the door into the lounge and lo behold...there he was, dragon and all. Her mouth dropped open a bit, taking in the sight of Vuka-no, he was, now what was it? V'sin, that was it. She took in the sight of V'sin, brown dragon pressed against his side. The poor thing looked awfully nervous, not surprising given the looks some of the candidates were shooting the pair's way. Honestly, who bought a young dragon into the candidate barracks, it was just asking for trouble! The answer to that was, of course, V'sin did, and without shame.

She shook her head a little, a slight smile tugging at her lips as she wandered out, hands shoved in her pockets, apparently casual. She stopped nearly a metre away from the pair, and on the other side of V'sin to the young dragon, keeping her hands deep in her pockets. She would most certainly not touch the lad!

"By the egg V'sin, you have a death wish?" She teased, tilting her head at him, smiling, though all sign of her usual flirtatiousness was completely gone. "C'mon, let's sit outside, before you two get glared to death." Still shaking her head, as though unable to believe his stupidity, she lead the way out of the Candidate barracks, shooting a wry grin at some of the more belligerent looking people.

Before any of the candidates could say where Ritali was, or ignore him as some glares seemed to say, the girl in question came striding in. Grinning widely at her and promptly ignored the less than happy people to focus his attention on his friend. Well, he wasn't used to her stopping so far away but the presence of Ardith in the back of his mind as he attempted to shy away from all the attention that was being given to them made him realize that it was probably a good idea.

Grin turning into a smirk at the tease, V'sin gave a quick shrug of his shoulders. "Oh y'know how much I love causing a scene." He paused and pretended to think for a moment. "So...yeah, I suppose I do." Wait, what? You do? Opps. "Joking, Ardith. I was just joking." Chuckling, he patted the brown's head before Ritali said they should go outside. Which was a good idea, he didn't think Ardith would be able to stand up to this much glaring as Vuka could.

Is she your friend? The one we came to see? Ardith hoped so, the others were much scarier. At least this one wasn't glaring, he liked smiling. Even her voice was somewhat like his Vuka's, the teasing lilt at least. "Hmm? Oh, yeah. Though..something is a bit off." V'sin replied, quiet so as to not let it reach Ritali's ears. She was...different. Then again, it had been a while since he'd gotten to see her and she was probably still recovering from her wounds.

Shards, he still felt a bit guilty about not going to see her while she was in the infirmary. But Ardith had needed him and the brown had been his top priority, still was but he was doing better than before. Though he still disliked being alone for too long. "Well Rit, trying to get us all alone? I suppose we are two good lookin' guys so I can't really blame ya."

Ardith tilted his head, looking up at Vuka as they walked behind the girl who was Vuka's friend. What are you doing? Teasing her. It's something we've always done. Oh, I see. The brown mused for a moment. Why? V'sin blinked, furrowing his brow a bit. I dunno, it's fun? You are...strange. Ardith admitted, causing a wide grin to appear on V'sin's face. There was hope of teaching his dragon the fine art of teasing after all.

"Did ya have somewhere particular in mind or shall we just wonder around until you find the perfect place?"

Give me all your loves!
Rit walked quickly to get them out of the Weyrling Barracks, though it also meant V'sin couldn't see as she struggled to keep her face neutral. Here is was, right in front of her (well, ok, behind here at the moment), proof of what she had missed out on. It took a couple of deep breaths to make sure she wasn't going to say anything stupid (or cry, she really had cried way to much lately).

"You know me Vuk, uh, V'sin. Besides, this room is too small to have both, um, all three of us, we are just far too good looking, everyone will be jealous!" It was hard to remember the young dragon had to be included. V'sin of course took it in his stride, but then he was bonded to the dragon so of course he would. Rit had to remember, and it was hard, she almost resented the dragon for disrupting the easy connection she and Vuka had had. As soon as they had met they had gotten along, chatting and flirting, it had been easy. Now...now that was gone, all because of the dragon.

As soon as she turned to face them, outside the Barracks, she felt a stab of guilt. The smile on V'sin's face was so bright and wide she felt bad for resenting the dragon. This is what they had both wanted, it wasn't V'sin's fault, or his dragons, that things hadn't played out the way they had always assumed it would, with both of them Impressing at the same time and going through all everything together. She shouldn't blame them for something they couldn't help, and really, how selfish, she suddenly thought, was she? Wanting to take away her friends happiness just because she couldn't share it. She had truly never seen him smile so wide and she really didn't want that to stop. She liked his smile.

She forced herself to smile as naturally as she could, though she did keep a decent distance from the pair as they left the Barracks, she had no idea how the young dragon might react if she actually got too close to them, some seemed very protective of their riders, and she was not going to risk it!

"How about we walk a bit. If your fine fellow here get's tired we can stop, as long as we are out of the Barracks I will be happy!" She smiled, forcing her eyes to lower to the dragon, actually looking at him properly, "and really, what happened to your manners, you haven't even introduced us yet!"

"Ya know, you can still call me whatever ya want. Unless it's something rude, then I may be just a bit offended." V'sin teased, though it was a just a bit strained. This was what he'd been afraid of. The relationship between Rit and himself was changed now that he'd impressed. That was going to have to take some getting used to, especially if he didn't want to hurt her feelings or anything. Which he didn't. If it had been anyone else he would have said feck them, but this was Rit. He'd known her for a while now and they'd been friends practically since they met.

Are you okay? Ardith asked, a bit worried at the feelings coming from V'sin. They weren't anything he'd felt from his rider before.

Yeah, I'll be fine. Just...change happening I guess.

You two were...close?

Yep, I'd have to say she was the best friend I had. Or is. I dunno, this is the first time we've seen each other since your hatching. A hand reached out to touch the brown's head, soothing the worry that had begun to swirl about in the dragon's head. You're thinking too much.

Raising a brow at the smile that didn't seem to belong on Ritali's face and the distance between them, V'sin casually took a few steps closer with Ardith right on his heels. "No worries about getting too close. He mainly worries about getting stepped on, regardless of how many times I tell him he's too big to miss these days." He didn't stop the grin that showed up at the brown's huff of annoyance.

I haven't worried about that in quite a while. Ardith denied with a brief shake of his head.

Ignoring his brown's protest, V'sin playfully groaned at Ritali's suggestion. "You're almost as bad as the weyrlingmasters. So much exercise." Before he could complain anymore, Rit was going on about his manners. "Riight. Manners. When did I have those?" Chuckling to himself, he ushered Ardith forwards a bit. "Ritali, this is Ardith. Ardith, Ritali. Is that good enough for manners?"

Give me all your loves!
"Oh no, you're a rider now, It would hardly be right to call you your old name." Rit insisted, shaking her quickly, doing her best to keep her smile in place and looking as natural as possible, though it was a struggle, if she called him Vuka she might somehow forget that he wasn't a rider - though it was hard to forget with the dragon at his feet - and if she forgot that then she would just treat him like she always did and she must absolutely not do that, no way, not at all. She simply wouldn't allow it to happen. "Besides, you need to get used to it or you'll never respond to it." She said, managing a little teasing tone to her voice.

Her hands twisted together in an unusual show of unease as she watched V'sin and the dragon, clearly they were talking and she felt a sudden stab of both jealously and paranoia. She could see the slight flicker in his eyes, the way they dropped slightly from her face to look down at the dragon. She wondered if they were talking about her, what were they saying...

Quickly she dug a nail into the soft skin on her palm, trying to distract herself from such thoughts, V'sin would never say bad things about her...she was sure of it-

Her thoughts cut off as she realised he was suddenly closer, having being a little lost in thought and not noticed him taking the steps forward. She tensed automatically, her eyes flickering instantly down to the young brown dragon, waiting for the anxious keen or territorial growl. When neither came she allowed her self to relax, just a tiny bit.

"It's nice to meet you Ardith at last." She said, and did manage a warm smile for the young dragon, for he really was quite sweet and didn't seem all that protective of V'sin, though of course, that could change in an instant.

"Maybe it's you who needs the exercise, Ardith here looks very fit. You are the one not pulling you weight I'd say..." Returning her attention back to the young man she worked up a more natural smile as she teased. "Shall we see who get's tired first?" She turned her gaze back onto Ardith, "I bet you are much fitter than he is!" She said in a loud stage whisper, though she mentally had her fingers crossed that the young dragon wouldn't mind being talked to by someone not his rider.

"I guess you're right. It's still pretty weird hearing V'sin instead of Vuka." He mused, narrowing his eyes at her for a moment before shrugging. "If ya change your mind though, I wouldn't mind ya calling me that." Rit was special after all. Even now that he had Ardith who made him whole, Rit was still important to him. One couldn't leave the people they'd been close to for turns behind just because of Impression. Or at least not him.

Hmm, maybe the getting too close was a bad idea. Ritali tensed and it almost caused him to jerk back from her. V'sin hadn't meant to startle her or anything. I do not think it's you. Ardith supplied, noticing the way she had automatically looked at him. Was she afraid of him? He hadn't done anything to scare her! The brown had just stuck close to his V'sin. Which had him crooning quietly in an attempt to reassure the girl.

Ardith was actually startled when Ritali spoke to him personally, causing him to jerk his head up to stare at her for a moment before offering her nod in return. She talked to me! Well, you're one handsome guy. Who wouldn't wanna talk to ya?

V'sin let a look of mock offense cross his face. "I was plenty fit before Ardith here found me! Now I'm just getting more exercise." And it was working. Things that used to wind him were much easier now days, so that was something. Chuckling as the old Rit showed up briefly, V'sin couldn't help the grin at the tease. "I'm pretty sure I can run circles around the both of ya'll!"

Why would you do that? Ardith asked, honestly confused as to why anyone would just run around in circles.

It's just an expression, Ardith. I'm not going to actually run around in circles or anything. But pay attention, I think Rit is talking to ya again. He'd heard the loud whisper and had to fight to roll his eyes. Well at least she was in a playful mood again. He'd take all the teasing she could throw at him over her being sad any day.

Oh right! Shifting his attention back to the strange girl, Ardith stared at her. He had never thought about talking to another person besides V'sin. The brown had a hard enough time with talking to other dragons, how could he talk to someone else? But...wasn't this girl special to V'sin? Whining quietly to himself, Ardith shifted to hide behind his rider. Hesitantly he reached out to Ritali's mind but almost immediately pulled back. It was strange! And it didn't feel right in there.

Hey, you don't have to if ya don't wanna.

I can do this! Ardith said, attempting to assure V'sin and himself. Reaching out again, the brown was determined to actually talk to his V'sin's friend. I'm not that strong. But Mine says I will be when I get bigger. There. He'd talked to her!

Give me all your loves!
"I guess, I'll think about it." Rit mumbled, ducking her head and avoiding eye contact while mentally promising herself to never, ever let herself slip up and call him Vuka. She waited until he dropped the topic before looking up again, just in time to catch the slight jerk back and confused look in his eyes. A stab of guilt nearly made her turn and leave right then until she heard the gentle croon, she looked down, rather startled, at the blue, staring at him as he looked up at her, apparently trying to reassure. That was new, she wouldn't have thought a young dragon would have cared at all about any other human other than it's rider. Yet here the little blue was, noticing her distress...

"I'm surprised that you've not been hiding from the exercise and pigging out in the dining hall instead." She said teasingly, forgetting herself for a moment and reaching forward and give V'sin a little poke in the stomach. As she realised what she had done she snatched her hand back as fast as she could, suddenly panicking, holding her hands tightly against her sides as her eyes once again flickered down to Ardith, he had seemed calm so far but what if she had crossed that line that no one could see. Shards she just didn't know what was ok and what wasn't with these young dragons!

"You'll never be able to run circles around me." she said with a slight laugh, though her breathing hitched slightly as a thought occurred to her, "though I suppose at the moment you could." Her smile straining as her fingers lightly brushed over her stomach. Even the most unfit candidate would be able to run circles around her at the moment, shards they'd probably walk circles with the way she was.

She was yanked sharply from her darkening thoughts by a tentative but sweetly determined voice in her mind. Her eyes widened and her mouth dropped open slightly as she stared at Ardith. He had spoken to her...a young dragon, still a baby really, had spoken to her, while his rider was there. Sure she had spoken to him but she hadn't expected a direct response! She didn't know what to think and for several long moments she was completely speechless.

"I-I'm sure you will be. You have good lines about you, you'll definitely grow up strong." She managed, though she was still stunned, finally closing her mouth and looking back at V'sin to give him a sheepish smile. Maybe she had just been overreacting?

V'sin pouted slightly at the tease. "I'm a growing boy! I need to eat a lot, more so now with all this exercise. Besides, I doubt Ardith would let me-" There would've been more to the sentence but he jerked in surprise at the poke to his stomach. "Heey! Are you calling me fat?" Just as he was about to make a sarcastic retort, he noticed how she was clutching her hands to her side and staring at Ardith.

She...she was really scared of him, wasn't she? Not at all like the old Ritali, but he couldn't fault her for it. He probably would've felt the same if he'd been the one who'd been injured by one of the babies. Ardith, however, was trying to look as small as he could. Eyes began to have a bit of yellow bleed into them as he tried to figure out a way to keep from distressing this friend of V'sin's any more than he already had.

What do I do? She keeps looking at me like that and I've not done anything! He whined to his V'sin.

I dunno buddy. She's going through some things that will probably take some time. It's not you though, I'm sure she's like this with all the other weyrlings. That wasn't really that reassuring but it was all he had. That was something Ritali would have to work on.

Busy reassuring Ardith, he hadn't heard his friend's response. It wasn't until his eyes caught movement that he realized she'd spoken again. But his gaze was now stuck on where she'd been touching. That's where she'd been hurt. Thankfully he didn't end up staring long, not when he felt such pride coming from Ardith. Eyes widened slightly when he saw the expression Rit had before a wide grin appeared on his face. You did it!

I did it! I did it! Ardith chanted, almost bouncing in his excitement. That hadn't been so hard. At least not until she responded, then he was staring up at her once more. When her words actually settled in his mind, he looked back at his body to see these lines she spoke of. I don't see any lines...V'sin do I have lines? How can you tell if they're good lines or bad lines?

V'sin snorted before reaching out to lightly stroke Ardith's head. "Ya've got some really hard to see ones that are lighter in color than the rest of ya. But she's not talking about those." He teased, glancing over at Rit and returning her sheepish smile with a grin. "Now he's gonna be inspecting himself for the rest of the day on where these lines are."
