Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Probably Lurking
It would be only days now before the eggs hatched. The anticipation was causing many of the candidates to go quite loopy in what, they hoped, would be their last days as candidates. Fera was no exception. She was determined to Impress, and while she cared more about her potential bonded's personality more than their colour, she couldn't help but feel competitive about the Golden egg that sat among the others. Fera did not get along well with other women as it was, but the hunger for power drove a greater wedge between her and the rest of womankind. She had been trying to start fights with some women over nothing, just to prove they aren't perfect little princesses who all deserve a big, shiny dragon.

Fera had finished her chores a couple candlemarks ago; it was getting closer to dinnertime and she waited in the Barracks for her next victim of her misguided tongue lashings. The particular candidate she had in mind was so infuriatingly beautiful that Fera was sure she had never sent a pleasant look in her direction. Synn; she must think she's sooo wonderful, thought Fera. Synn was almost like who Fera wanted to be; calm in hot situations, battle-proficient, blond. Not that Fera would admit it, of course. Not in a million turns. Fera wasn't even fully aware of the intense envy she felt. Her mind was usually too clouded with angry thoughts when Synn was around.

Well Fera had had quite enough. It was obvious, to Fera, that Synn was only here for the Golden egg. It was also obvious, solely to Fera again, that Synn needed to be taken down a few notches. She had been thinking about all the things she'd like to harass the poor, unsuspecting candidate about. Unfortunately, Fera was not particularly quick-witted or clever, and would likely forget all her prepared jibes mid-rage.

Fera loved herself dearly, but was not arrogant. She knew she had limitations. She knew she may not Impress the Queen. She was fully prepared for that. Something about Synn seemed overtly... egotistical. Fera got the sense that she thought less of many of the others. Sometimes she saw a look on Synn's face that reminded her of the fancy old ladies back home that would scold her for being bratty and demanding. Fera had it in her head that Synn was an arrogant Queen-chaser, and she wanted to do something about it.

"If this is to end in fire, we will all burn together."
((Ceri, I am soooo sorry I did not respond to this sooner! I did not even notice this tag until today! Anyway, here is a verrrrry belated reply! I know it is outdated, and I know you haven't been on in a while, but I'd love to write this out with you when you come back. Again, so sorry!))

After many hours of labor, Synn finally found herself free to return to the Candidate Barracks. She strolled tiredly across the 'Bowl, doing her best to keep her back straight instead of slouching. Sure, the muscles along her spine ached, but she wasn't about to show those around her how fatigued she felt.

In truth, though the Candidate would never outwardly admit it, she was exhausted. The chores of a candidate were so mundane. She was sick of applying herself so wholeheartedly only to receive no immediate reward.

Soon, she thought, dabbing some sweat off her forehead with a handkerchief, I'll get my just desserts. Indeed, the hatching was only a few days away and Synn felt completely confident she'd Impress. A small smile appeared on her lips as she thought about the gold egg. Aware of her inner greed, though, Synn quickly shook her head and told herself she'd be happy with any dragon.

Though, was she not the most qualified woman among the candidate pool? If anyone deserved the gold, it was her.

No, she scolded, clenching the moist handkerchief in her fist, I'll be happy with any dragon. Color is not everything.

Her mind-voice was not so convinced, so she decided to think about other things. Like how badly she needed a bath. Chores in the heardbeast pens always left her reeking of manure and sweat.

Finally, she entered the barracks and started heading toward the bathes, but was cut off by a fellow candidate. “Fera,” she sighed at the green eyed woman, sensing a confrontation. “Did you need something?” she asked plainly, brushing a few sweaty strands of hair from her forehead.
