Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

R’ken hadn’t seen Viviette since the hatching had started and had been hoping to see her at the feast it actually kinda worried him was she in a post hatching gloom like he would have been? He at least wouldn’t have skipped a meal though sulking true he would have been in and out because of food but he still would have showed up, the feast was still going on with the denizens of the Weyr latching onto the excuse to celebrate and meet the new queens both gold and garnet.

Hey Zaxth...I wanna go check on my sister

Concern for your clutchmate finally get to you? Zaxth asked cocking his head to one side there’s nothing wrong with it you know.

yeah I guess it’s just complicated ever since she arrived I’ve just been…I don’t even know how did he feel he couldn’t quite find the right word for it, but since she had told him that they were related he felt strange, he wanted to hate her to deny all ties to man who supposedly sired them both to different woman, Vivi in love and Roh in a fit of flightlust. Heck part of him did resent her having actually known their father, but he didn’t hate her, he’d spent enough time to know he didn’t or couldn’t hate her, not in earnest.

Zaxth thrust his head into Roh's chest a gesture of comfort and support Complicated sounds like a very good word for it R’ken, your relationship is a strange one, but there is no shame in caring for that is what it must be, you care for your sister as I care for my brothers and sisters, it is natural

R’ken smiled as he scratched Zaxth’s eyeridges it was hard to think of Zaxth as a baby, the strangely long dragonet in his head was a wonder indeed “thanks” the young man said under his breath.

The two separated momentarily as R’ken left his seat and headed for the food piling it up with a little of everything he could not really knowing what she liked before R’ken and Zaxth left heading for the candidate barracks and headed straight to Viviette’s room he knocked “Hey Vivi you in there and decent?” he called, looking at Zaxth behind him “hope she’s here”

Typical you’d only just think of that now

There had to be a reason Viviette was in her room with her knees pulled up to her chest and blanket draped over them. She'd decide that reason later. Her normally braided was also loose, draped around her shoulders in a fuzzy, tangled mess. The hatching had been amazing, wonderful, inspiring, life-changing... for 29 individuals who weren't her. Including Rohken and someone from the stands. The other candidates being chosen first didn't sting, they'd been there longer, had seniority, but that gorgeous blue had found a drudge more appealing then her! It was hard for a 16 turn old to accept.

Her stomach growled but its noises were ignored. Right now there were more important things to be done, like avoiding seeing the tiny babies strutting about in the dining hall or seeing the few remaining candidates drinking in the common room. Or at least she thought that's what they were doing. Either way, she had little interest in it. Lessons would continue on tomorrow as normal, but for today she was allowed a little self pity. Or a lot. Wherever the night took her.

“I miss home.” The girl muttered, resting her head further into the dip between legs and chest. “I miss Mom and her homemade bread and even Brier.” Her little brother would be turning five soon and she wouldn't be there. Most of the time he was a brat but right now she'd welcome his stupid face.

A knock on the door and a voice broke her from her home sick longings. “Hello? Um, yes, I'm here!” She unfolded the blanket from her lap and got up. “ Obviously, couldn't answer you otherwise.” was muttered on the way to the door, but when she opened it there was no speaking, sarcastically or otherwise. A gasp emerged, and she stared at the dragonet which was longer then she was, even on its hatching day. “Rohken! And bronze! And...food?” The last word was more confused then surprised. Except now he was a bronze rider, and that was a place of respect, and some of her holder sensibilities kicked in. She tried to curtsy, realized she was wearing pants so that wouldn't work, and bowed instead. “Sorry, I mean, bronze rider.”

My name is Zaxth, not Bronze The dragon said cooly addressing his rider’s sibling directly as his eyes swirled in neutral colors as he appraised Viviette.

R’ken was surprised when she fumbled a curtsy and hastily changed it to a bow, and addressed him with such respect but his surprise melted into a beaming grin as he puffed up proudly “thank you Vivi yes I the great R’ken am here ever the mighty provider of food!” he announced "bowing to my legendary greatness is good." he added with a good natured and joking chuckle

Despite his heartfelt good cheer, R’ken wasn’t blind to the fact his half sibling looked a mess, which worried him a little further “anyway I-we” he corrected himself “were expecting to see ya at the feast, so since I wanted to introduce Zaxth to you we brought the feast to you” he told her swaying the plate from side to side tantalisingly to waft whatever remaining scents remained in his no longer warm offerings.

She does look terrible, her… he cast about for the proper word ‘Hair’ is worse than yours Zaxth stated bluntly you know as much as I enjoy being gawked at I’d rather not stand about with all eyes on my rump!

“what do you-?” R’ken looked past Zaxth and down the hall where some of the few other candidates not attending the feast were taking the opportunity to gape at the bronze dragonet when they noticed R’ken looking they hastily tried to look busy, R’ken had to admit it Zaxth did look odd standing in the girl candidate hallway, “ah right uh sooo Vivi may we come in?” he asked eyes back on Viviette.

Viviette could hardly do anything but nod slowly as Zaxth introduced himself and corrected her in one fell swoop. He was not as friendly as Rohken, didn't have the same jocular tone, and now she wasn't sure how best to address him. Obviously using his name, but beyond that she was clueless. Her half-brother's proclamation broke that awkwardness. She pursed her lips and avoided a sigh. He wasn't living up to the bronze rider standard, at the least he could have accepted her show of respect without making fun of it.

“I feel like I should be bowing to, uh, Zaxth, instead.” She said weakly, wondering if weyrling training would change his attitude in the months to come. The food was tempting however, and might be enough to weigh the scales against her wish for solitude. Viviette skittered around R'ken's mention of the feast. If he was expecting to see her at the feast that showed how little he knew her despite their attempts to bond as siblings. Now that they were separated by the dragon standing before them building that relationship would not be any easier. Right now it was hard to care that much, not when she was the one being left behind, but the thought sat distantly in her mind, to be mulled over more later.

Viviette pressed herself against the door before side-stepping further into the room, providing enough space for Zaxth and R'ken to enter with lots to spare. “Of course! Sorry. Can't blame them for staring.” The last sentence was muttered with another long look at the bronze. “Thank you for the food too.” She held out a hand to accept the plate (and prevent R'ken from dropping it before she could taste its contents). “I'm hungry but didn't want to deal with the crowds.” And the weyrlings. She added on silently.

The fact one of the new weyrlings she was feeling so reluctant to deal with had been thoughtful and kind enough to think about her when they could be enjoying the limelight was enough to pull her out of some of her funk though. She presented a small smile with sincerity behind it. “Congratulations, by the way. He's handsome. Dad would be proud.” And she knew if he was still alive he would be. "I'll be telling Mom all about it in my next letter home." If their father couldn't brag about R'ken then the least she could do was make an effort to make up for the lack.
