Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

The Viridian Mistress
Brielle had been utterly blissful since the hatching. She hadn’t intended to save Briesk’s life, but somehow she had. And oh, it felt good. The little green was a joy to be with, and there were many times a day when Brielle just couldn’t help scooping her up into her arms. Besides, she might as well do it now when she still could.

Briesk bored! the wher announced early that evening. Want see friends.

“Friends?” Brielle grinned. She hadn’t seen Nedeya since the hatching; she missed her friend, and she desperately wanted to meet the blue she now had. She had caught a glimpse of him chewing on her friend’s shoe, and the thought made her giggle now.

Shoe not food. Briesk cocked her head at her from the floor. Why eat shoe?

The healer’s giggles turned into full on laughs. “Yes, Briesk, shoes are not food. You’ll do good to remember that.” She picked the wher up, cuddling her to her chest. “C’mon, silly, let’s go see some friends.”

It was a short trip down the hall to Nedeya’s room. Shifting Briesk’s weight to one arm so she could knock on the door, Brielle called, “Nedeyaaaa! You have visitors!” Briesk squirmed, working her little lungs to add in a squeaky ‘hooooo.’ Briesk here too! Briesk here too!

The little lump of wher that had deemed itself 'Nedeysk' had, as the girl had predicted, made Nedeya's nights very interesting. For one thing there were the meals. Nedeya was not one who'd ever been deeply involved in slaughtering or butchering, and now she found herself expected not only to deal with meat but with organs and brains. The first time she'd been expected to crack a skull open she'd thrown up with Nedeysk watching indignantly the whole way. Not to say it was all bad! Not by any means. Nedeysk's bond was the most intimate thing she'd ever experienced, and she was still learning how to contain her reactions to the subtle shifting of emotions from the wher. Plus the squishy baby blue had a level of egotism and vanity Nedeya had never personally experienced before. It didn't raise her own feelings of self-worth, but the confidence often caught her off guard.

Oil. was the imperious demand the wher had been making for the past half candlemark as Nedeya tried to organize her plans for the evening. “Yes, oil, but also food and training and do we have classes? I don't know...” Nedeya stood by her bed looking frazzled, wishing there was someone she could rely upon who knew more about this then she did. Nedeya simple plan. Oil. Food. Scratching. Sleep. Nedeysk tried to jump on the bed to reach the woman's hands easier, but the sides proved too high and he tumbled. “No!” Nedeya exclaimed, squatting and running frantic hands over the blue's body, stretching thin wings to their limit to look for marks.

Nedeysk withstood the check with surprising patience. Not hurt. Smaller bed best bed. Nedeya was about to comment on how he'd soon be bigger then the bed when a knock and yell with accompanying wher howling sounded at her door. The yell was familiar, and she could place a smart guess as to who was squeaking.

“It's friends, it's okay.” She reassured Nedeysk before moving towards the door. The wher scrambled onto a chair with rungs he could slip his claws onto so he could tower above the newcomer wher, whoever they were. "Brielle!" Nedeya lit up at the sight of her friend before she took in the full effect of the healer with the green wiggling baby in her arms. "She's adorable. And named...Briesk?" She added slowly, hoping she'd be corrected if wrong. "Nedeysk is..." She stopped, glancing back and stopping. He was staring with yellow eyes at Brielle and Briesk expecting recognition of his excellence, if she was reading his emotions right. "He has a lot of personality."

Brielle was grinning from ear to ear when Nedeya opened the door. Briesk was still squirming, looking back at the healer with a petulant whine. Let down? She glanced back at Nedeya when the other woman complimented her, her blue eyes whirling faster. Yes! Ador... ador... adorb! Briesk adorb!

Before Brielle had time to comply with the wher's request, she had caught sight of Nedeysk and was clawing eagerly in attempt to be released. "Okay, okay, I'll let you down!" she said, shaking her head. "No need to take my arms off!"

By the time Brielle had given her friend a good-natured grin and an eye roll, Briesk had torn across the room and propped her front feet on the lower rung of Nedeysk's chair. She gave an almost canine-type yap, waving her tail and bouncing on her feet. If the blue wanted her to bow at his feet and give him her undying admiration, he would be sorely disappointed. Briesk saw him as a playmate. Nedeyyyyysk! Play! Come down, play with Briesk! Unable to hold still for another instant, she took her feet of the chair and ran in a tight circle, then jumped back up and fixed Nedeysk with a glare. Plaaaaaaaayyy!

Brielle smiled again and shook her head. "He looks like it!" She exclaimed. "Is he too bad of a handful?" She watched her own wher acting like a young canine, gazing at the green fondly. "I didn't realize how... babyish they would be. I mean, it makes sense, they are babies, but... I don't know. It's a lot to take in, I guess."

Another glance towards the whers, but after a moment she looked back at Nedeya. "So! How have you been?"

Nedeya resisted the urge to try and tickle the little wher's belly as she replied to the praise. Her friend had found a wher that truly matched her personality. She only hoped the green was as useful in healing as she was cute. “I've been great. Adapting. But you're right, they're not the big, vicious brutes I've heard of. I don't know that Nedeysk would hurt a fly unless it had insulted him.” And then he might try to kill it and raze it's whole village to the ground, but she might be exaggerating.

“Also still getting used to what we feed them.” Disgust spilled out from the words. “I would never neglect him but brains and organs still make me gag.” She wasn't sure if Brielle would share the feeling of revulsion over it all, healers dealt with that and worse on a regular basis, and she couldn't imagine what a thread injury looked like. At least, she thought the infirmary was shared with the weyr, it seemed like Brielle had mentioned that at some point.

Nedeysk was less happy with their visitors. No play! He backed up in the chair until he decided he was safe from her grasping claws. The little wher watched his clutch sister, unhappy with her lack of subservience, beginning to get frustrated that things weren't going as he wanted. There was one way to make sure she realized her place. As she ran around he crouched, wiggling his tail and fluttering tiny wings. 3...2...1...Once she was turned away from the chair he pounced, aiming for her back. Of course, he made the mistake of declaring his intentions with a very loud, Tackle! Nedeysk wins!

"Oh, goodness no," the healer said. "Briesk is fascinated with how I 'unbreak' people. She's much rather help me heal than try and hurt someone." Brielle still giggled at Nedeya's description of her wher. "He sounds like he thinks... highly of himself." She eyed the blue wher he still stood, acting as if he was Lord Holder of Chair Hold. Not the personality one expected of a 'typical' blue, though being here she had quickly learned there was no such thing as 'typical' for a color, wher or dragon.

"Ick, yes," the woman quickly agreed. Seeing all the parts of a human while engrossed in saving their life was entirely different from seeing the parts of a dead animal while preparing it as food. Taking care of Briesk had only made Brielle glad she had chosen healing over cooking. "I'll be so glad when they can hunt for themselves. Hopefully that comes sooner rather than later."

Play! Briesk said again, just knowing that Nedeysk would be more than happy to join in her games once he came down and started. She started to grasp for a foothold to ascend the chair, only to loose her balance with all her wiggling and falling flat on her bum. In an instant she was up again, though, twirling and prancing and yapping.

A weight crashed down on her, causing her to yelp and fall once more, this time finding herself spread-eagle on the ground. Before her handler had cause for alarm, she wailed, Nooooo! Nedeysk not win! Briesk win! Briesk better winner than Nedeysk! She scrambled out from under the blue, batting at him gently with her front paw. See? Play fun! Come get Briesk! With that, she took off, waving her tail as if to pose a tempting target. Surely the blue had to join in a game of chase?

Nedeya nodded along to Brielle's words, it was good that the little green was both the curious type and sounded able to learn. Wher intelligence was a factor she wasn't sure of. Nedeysk seemed to comprehend things quickly enough but his perspective on them were often dragon lengths away from her conclusions on matters. "To say the least." She laughed, feeling the blue's irritation at the green and finding it most amusing. "Um. Sorry, here you are standing in the hallway, come in." The woman moved out of the door way, gesturing into her room. "There isn't much but it's home."

Nedeysk was repelled by the green's attempts to touch him, if an outside viewer hadn't known better it might have appeared the little wher was venomous, or something to that effect. He backed up hastily, stumbling over his hind feet in the process. No! No no no! How dare she try to touch him! He had tackled her and she kept going! This was a challenge to his pride and he wouldn't stand for it. As Briesk wiggled her tail he watched her carefully, only giving chase when he thought he could catch her off guard. Nedeysk is always best.

The baby blue looked for another surface to jump on as he bounded after his clutch sister, but there was nothing that wouldn't be a struggle to reach. The world was tall to a newly hatched wher. Perhaps it was time to call in the cavalry. Need help. Lift lift.

Nedeya glanced at the whers as Nedeysk requested back up and sighed with a small grin. "It seems they've got a competition going on. Or Nedeysk thinks they do. Now might be a good time for an introduction." Nedeysk flapped his wings enthusiastically as hands encircled his stomach and brought him up to chest height. Now go! Knock over. He glared at Briesk. "I don't think so. First you have to meet my friend."

Nedeysk's attention was caught. Friend? His friend? Her friend? Whose friend? Did he have other friends? His twitching ceased as he examined Brielle. Discontent flowed through their bond and Nedeya jostled the blue before his eyes could turn red. "Don't be like that. This is Brielle, she came with me to Vaioa. You'll be seeing a lot of her." Nedeysk wasn't going to give in that easily. No, he needed more then that. Especially if this person was associated with that pesky green.

The healer gratefully entered, taking in the room her friend had been staying in for the past few months. It was fairly similar to her own, small and yet not exactly cozy. "These quarters aren't exactly... the roomiest," Brielle said aloud. "But hey, it's a place to lay your head, you know." It was certainly better than being out in a caravan, in her opinion. Even their journey to Vaioa had unsettled her, despite knowing there would be no Thread that day.

Nedeysk seemed to be proving to have no sense of fun whatsoever, in Briesk's opinion. He seemed outraged at her attempts to play (who would do that?!?) and acted as if would bite him. Well, maybe she would, if that would get him to lighten up! Yessss! she exclaimed, clearly put out at his horrible attitude. Nedeysk is not best if Nedeysk does not play!

She squealed in delight as he started to chase, then stopped, whining, as Nedeya picked him up. Silly! she called, offering him the only insult she knew. Lame! Come play!

Brielle cooed gently as she gained the blue's attention. Up close he really was pretty, an odd but pleasant pattern. He seemed unhappy with her, and the healer was grateful when her friend put in a plea on her behalf. "I'm not as bad as I look, promise," she offered. "And you're very handsome, little guy."

Briesk now stood at her handlers feet, rocking on her back legs to demand the 'up' that Nedeysk had been granted. Brielle obliged, and the green waggled her tail, before stretching her neck and trying to lick Nedeysk across the nose.
