Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Give me all your loves!
Ok, because I'm a dope and didn't read the hatching carefully, I missed the fact that Rit got badly mauled. I'm going to leave this here but we'll all just pretend that this is happening in her head or something.

“29 eggs, everyone will Impress. I mean sure, how could you not with odds like that. Especially if you’ve been around for so long. It’s just a matter of time. Two clutches at the same time, you’re practically guaranteed to Impress. Right?” Ritali mumbled to herself, a constant stream of muttering as she slowly wandered her way round the Weyrbowl. The sounds of the celebration started to get louder as she neared the entrance to the lower caverns and she quickly changed direction, a rather dark look on her face. She had thought…well, she had let herself think that maybe this time is was actually going to happen. She had let that little glimmer of hope that stayed with to actually turn into a real belief it was going to finally happen. She kicked a rock moodily, only to find it was bigger than she was expecting. She swore, limping off, her toe sore and her mood worse than ever.

Sighing she started angling her way back to the candidate Barracks, though she had no idea what she would do once she got there. Ideally she had hoped to find someone to distract her, but it seemed for once that there was no one milling about away from the feast who she could, tempt. With the double clutch, a Gold and a Garnet, everyone was getting into the celebrations. With that strategy useless, her second would be to get drunk…but all the easily accessible wine was, wait for it, at the feast.

It just wasn’t fair! All her life she had been told she would probably Impress. She was a Weyrbrat after all, what sort of Weyrbrat didn’t Impress? Only one that wasn’t worthy. People always said was just a matter of time, her dragon just hadn’t been born yet. But she was starting to think it wasn’t a matter of waiting for her dragon, she was starting to think the problem lay with her. There must be something wrong with her, that was why every dragon looked away from her in favour of all the other candidates. She wasn’t sure what it was, but she was sure that there must be something in her mind that made her just completely abhorrent to dragons.

Her thoughts turned darker and darker until she had to stop, crouching by the edge of the Weyrbowl, arms around herself, taking deep breaths, trying to calm herself down. It was fine, it was just like every other Hatching. It didn’t matter. It didn’t matter. It didn’t matter. She didn’t need a dragon, she just thought she did. Just like Vukasin hadn’t needed one…until today. She gripped her arms tighter, taking another deep breath before getting back to her feet and forcing herself onwards.

Arriving at the candidate barracks she strode into her room, yanked out a bag and had it half full of clothes before she realised what she was doing. Rit stopped, staring down at the messy bag. Could she do it? Could she actually leave the Weyr?

Sure she could.

She kept packing, only to pause again. Where would she go? How would she get there?

She stopped completely, looking around the little room. It had been her home for a few turns now, as had Vaioa, she had a hard time thinking of places she could get to. What would she even do? She knew no craft, had no skills, no talents or knowledge base to fall back on. She had nothing, she was just a Weyrbrat with nothing to offer the world. Her only goal to work towards, her only training had been for becoming a dragonrider, she had never thought about doing anything else, never bothered showing any interest in a craft. Now she was regretting it.

"Who am I kidding." She mumbled.

With a sigh she turned over the bag and dumped everything bag on the bed, folding it carefully and stowing everything back where it belonged. She couldn't leave, not a chance, not while she was old enough to continue standing. If she got to old to stand...well she would cross that bridge when she came to it. For now, she would just continue as norma.

Putting everything away she noticed that the little room was getting rather messy, so she cleaned it carefully, blocking out anything else for the time, focusing on making the room cleaner than it had ever been before, even when she had first moved in; though admittedly that wasn’t hard, she had moved in just after a hatching and its previous occupant had cleared out in a hurry leaving a bit of a mess. It was a useful distraction.

Unfortunately it didn't take nearly long enough and soon she was left with her own thoughts again, though the truly dark edge had been taken off them, replaced by dull, aching disappointment. This at least was a familiar feeling, one she had experienced many a time. She sat on her bed for a few minutes before the silence began to overwhelm her. She was lonely she just wanted to be with someone, anyone. Preferably someone handsome and smooth but she had a feeling that option was gone.

She stood up, stretched and headed out again, pausing in the at the door out the Barracks, glancing back at the lounge area, wondering whether to wait for one of the other candidates left standing, or maybe sneak into the kitchen. It would be busy, no one would mind an extra pair of hands and no one would look twice and realise she was a candidate. She hovered at the door, thinking before making her decision.
