Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

The Sarcastic One
Cas was feeling overwhelmed. He had just wanted to sit with some fellow candidates and have a few drinks. Now there were games and mentions of stripping and... well, at least the alcohol was still involved. He edged closer to the table once more and poured himself a glass of wine. He knew his limits--wine was the best he could handle with other people around.

Kellyn had no reservations, however. Young though she was, she reached for the hard stuff Taro had supplied, pouring herself a shot. Her gaze moved to Ontally as he remarked and she smiled. "It's pretty straightforward. When it's your turn, someone will ask you if you would like to answer a truth or do a dare," she replied. Turning her head toward Taro as he suggested rules, she perked up. "Oh, that's a good idea! If you don't want to answer the question or do the dare, you take a shot. If you do it, your asker takes a shot. Sound good to everyone?" She swept her smile across everyone, making Cas flush.

Tilting her head, she stretched out her leg and prodded him with the toe of her boot. He yelped and shrank back like she had burned him, prompting her to raise a quizzical brow. "What's the matter, Sad-eyes? Don't like Truth or Dare? Why don't you go fir-" She broke off as Chetia suddenly cut in, volunteering to go first.

The girl grinned and shifted her position, leaning forward in her chair. "Way to go, roomie! Okay, truth or dare?" she asked, amused. It wasn't hard to figure out she had volunteered just to spite Vukasin. She'd already discovered how formidable her roommate could be. When Chetia voiced her choice of a dare, Kellyn was further surprised. "Dare, huh? Okay... I dare you..." She paused, considering, and her gaze landed on the records in front of the teacher and her student. Mischief touched her smile. "I dare you to refrain from using big words the duration of the game."

Cas released a breath he hadn't known he'd been holding. What, those were the kinds of dares they were going to give? Well, if that was the case, maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Slowly, he headed for the nearest open seat-right between Taro and Kellyn-and sat down gingerly. He could try being social tonight.

It looked as if plenty of other candidates were brought out of their holes by the alcohol and chance at a drinking game. Or at least that's the way it seemed as several more people came into the common room, including another girl who offered up the suggestion of truth or dare. Hmm, that seemed to be the most interesting since there wouldn't be any stripping games. Not that he wasn't surprised, there were plenty of hold raised folks around.

Shifting his head around to look at the new comers, and to catch a look at Chetia's face again, Vukasin kept quiet and just studied everyone. He couldn't really say that he'd seen Kellyn before but he hadn't been paying too much attention to the newly arrived candidates. But it looked as if they'd decided on truth or dare and started to focus on the rules. Chetia's desire to be first caused a small smirk to tug at his lips. Apparently she hadn't taken his teasing well. The dare she ended up getting caused him to snort as he tried to stifle his laughter with a hand. He didn't want the girl to think he was laughing at her.

Only he sorta was.

Taking another drink, because why not he was thirsty, his eyes darted around the room once more. It was a shame Rit wasn't around, he would've liked to have messed with her a bit during this game. Ah well, it looked as if this Casimir was a bit nervous about this whole thing. Which was odd, wasn't he the one who started this whole thing? But well...at least he looked a bit more relaxed now. His lips curled into a small smirk once more. The more they drank the worse these dares were gonna get. It was going to be fun.

Chetia watched, frowning, as Kellyn poured herself a generous helping of Taro's mystery spirits. As the girl's roommate, she felt ethically bound to warn the younger candidate of the evil she courted, preparing to dispense fair warning before her roommate stole the show with a proud cheer that bled the Harper's ironclad will bone-dry.

Oh this was a terrible idea. Kellyn beamed and her roommate grimaced, honor bound to accept. She teetered now on the verge of grudging acceptance; so spoke the eyes trained on Chetia as she mulled darkly over her options.

“Dare.” They expected truth. She would rob them of that, at least. Privately she banked on Kellyn's youth as inhibitor – what could a fifteen Turn old possibly divise that she might not find an out for? She had the superior intellect.

For now. Kellyn diverted her gaze as Chetia's settled on one of the unlabeled bottles, throat tight as she swallowed back a nervous lump.

I dare you... Chetia's forehead wrinkled, nose crinkling as her sentence was passed. 'Big words' left a sour taste in her mouth, already opening to give protest to such an impossible challenge.

“You can't measure that accurately, that's prepos—”

“Big word!” Judgment called from an unexpected corner of the room, its dealer blanching as Chetia stared blankly, evidently stunned at having been called out. But--

“You heard the man!” Another voice chimed in, a hand pressing a sloshing cup of something into her own. Chetia sputtered.

“But--” “Drink!” More voices chimed in, and Chetia's face heated up.

This is stupid crossed her mind as she made an ugly face at the unappealing smell of whatever they'd foisted upon her, nose deep in the cup before she took her first reluctant sip.

“Augh!” It curdled on her tongue even as it burned her throat. Why would you even.

Choking the first little bit down, enough to satisfy a mindful jury, Chetia's gaze lanced towards Vukasin with unsettling intensity.

"Truth or dare."

The sounds started soft, a few voices echoing from the commons down the hall. Zariv ignored them, returned to reading his hides. His hand rubbed over his freshly shaved skull, been doing that most evenings now. None of the candidates said looking your best for eggs helped your chances, but it couldn’t hurt. Right? He had gone walking backwards around the weyrbowl after all. Keeping his face and head smooth seemed a more practical thing to keep up with. Scratching at his chin he leaned forward switched to a new hide, tempted to light a candle with the glows light going dim.

More voices, he could hear glasses now, louder shouts. He turned away from the hide and leaned back in his chair. Did he really want to waste a candle if this would carry on? His brow rose, and he slid his chair back, got up from where he sat and walked to his door. Movements slow he peered out into the hall and looked down towards the commons. Warm light, warm faces, and glasses all around. Zariv scratched at his head, looked back over his shoulder towards the waiting hide. There were some cheers, someone had brought more alcohol to the occasion. He winced at that, immediately searched the halls for any glimmer of green.

Caught sight of a firelizard he knew sitting far on the other side of the common room. Not any candidate’s pet that one. Even from this distance there was no mistaking Dim. Annoyingly bright hide and gray face, Zariv had made it his business to know every last one of V’ash’s fair. But the firelizard seemed quiet, content to watch. No sign of the Candidatemaster, so maybe this would be fine? Faranth how long since he had a good drink with friends? The light and the drink called to him. Maybe just a cup or two, he could make sure these younger candidates didn’t do anything too damaging to themselves.

His lip turned up a hair, faintest hint of a smile as he straightened his tunic and left his room. Zariv walked slow, listened in on the discussion flying around the room. Drinking games? Strip something? Faranth he almost turned back to his room straightaway. But he took one more step forward, and as he did the rules of truth or dare was announced. Oh that he could do just fine!

Zariv kept to the edges of the room, found fellow candidates extremely willing to hand him a glass of the hard stuff. He sniffed at it, grinned, and finished it in a single motion. Cheeks warm he found a bit of wine to be gentler with. The game had begun, and he found a bit of wall to lean against to watch the affair. Content to watch for now, friends and drink all he needed for the night. He chuckled at Chetia’s dare, actually laughed as Casimir called her out. She protested, and Zariv spoke up, others sounding with him.

“Drink!”

And he joined her for the shot. He needed to meet the one that brought this batch of hard liquor, may not need any questions of his own to sleep well tonight.

And there went the first dare; blown. Chetia didn't seem to be able to go very long without saying a big word. Before she could even get her full sentence out someone was calling out and causing the girl to just stare blankly before more people went to call her out. A grin was back on his face as he watched a cup get put into her hand and she tried to protest once more. It failed though and Vukasin was hiding more laughter behind his hand.

He really should've felt bad but she had agreed to the game and had even offered to go first. Perhaps she hadn't played the game much so she didn't know what to expect? Oh well, the faces she was making were amusing enough that he didn't feel too bad about it. Free entertainment.

Vukasin was only a bit surprised when Chetia's gaze went to him as she finished taking the required drink. Apparently she didn't like him very much. So what did he do? Grinned widely and sent her a wink. "Well m'lady, I think I will go with a dare." Okay, he really was teasing her now which didn't seem like a good idea considering how she reacted to it before. Oh well.

Now he just had to see what sort of dare Chetia would be able to come up with. It couldn't be too bad considering how she felt about the game in the first place. So maybe something that wouldn't come up in the game much? Hmm, well either way he wasn't afraid of drinking anyways so he should be safe.

Chetia was having second thoughts, it showed in her nervous posture and, well she flat out said so. Olly hesitated and might have opted out of the experience - for her sake - if she hadn't stepped up to the plate anyways and volunteered to go first. She'd sealed her fate before he had a chance to pull her from the situation and all he could do at this point was drink and go along. If things got dicey, they could always leave.

"Drink!" People cried. Where had all these sharding people come from all of a sudden?

He didn't know Kellyn well, merely that she and Chetia shared a room and she talked in a way that would make some hardy sailors he knew back home blush. He sipped at his drink and found it to be quite good; it wasn't the watered down stuff he'd occasionally sampled at the docks. He sipped dutifully when the rest of the growing crowd did but Chetia's acute distress had him squirming in his seat even as she turned her irate gaze on Vukasin.

"Gimme your glass," he told her loud enough for the others to hear, "I'll drink your share for you. I can handle it." His piercing blue eyes assessed the other candidates, daring anyone to object. As long as someone was drinking it, it should be alright...right?

I'm going to die.

The alcohol lingered as a dull burn in her gut, lending its fire to the keen stare she kept leveled on Vukasin. Insolence! Her lip curled back as the teasing began anew. He would rue the day he crossed Chetia, already the possibilities brewed. A sharp mind bent for evil purpose was a dangerous thing, and the ex-Harper sounded a throaty chuckle as the decision was made, moving to settle back in her seat before sweet Ontally intercepted.

I'll drink your share for you. Eyes and mouth softened as brave-faced Oy pledged allegiance, head bowed as she scryed the opaque liquid in her cup. He would sacrifice himself for her.

No. Her mouth hardened again as she steeled her will, tossing back the remainder of her vile potion before her prized pupil could lay hands on it. It was a bitter struggle to keep a straight face, tears prickling as her throat caught on fire.

She suppressed a cough, setting her cup down heavily before jabbing a finger in Vukasin's direction, on her feet and projecting as fiercely as a weedy girl might.

"For the next twenty-four candlemarks, starting now, you must end every sentence with the phrase 'I suck tailfork'!" She lapsed into silence, vindinctive smirk curling the corners of her mouth.

"No exceptions!" was tagged on as an afterthought before, satisfied, she reclaimed her seat.

"Another shot!" She ran on liquid courage now.

Clearly, this was going to be a very interesting night. Taro might have to go get more spirits if it kept up like this and people continued to join in. He grinned at Casimir when he sat between himself and Kellyn, though Rum decided that he'd better switch to that shoulder. Sharding creature. Taro leaned back casually and watched as Chetia quickly broke her first dare, taking a sip of his own drink with her.

At least she took her punishment well, Taro had to give her that. Even if he did chuckle at the look on her face when the spirit burned its way down her throat. Yep. He made the stuff strong for a reason. And this was the diluted batch. Taro spotted another candidate hovering on the fringes, drinking with them but not participating.

"Zariv! Too chicken to play?" he called out, waving him over in case he had enough liquid courage. That's what they'd all be full of here soon enough. Taro could already feel the burn warming his stomach and fingertips. He had a long way before he'd feel any detrimental effects, though. He wouldn't be worth his shine if he couldn't drink people under the table.

Ontally's glare earned only a grin from Taro, but he didn't object since Chetia had already taken her punishment. Taro sipped more of his drink and turned his attention to the next turn. Chetia seemed intent on Vukasin, who was apparently Taro's new best friend. Well, this should be interesting since there seemed to be no love lost between the two.

The dare was absolutely worth the wait. Taro laughed and raised his glass to toast the unfortunate man. "Here's to an interesting lesson tomorrow, eh Vukasin?"

Well, that could not be good. Chetia's chuckle gave Vukasin a feeling that her mind was attempting to come up with the worst thing she could think of. He just wasn't sure how worried he should be considering it was...well, Chetia. She didn't give off any feeling that he should be afraid of, even if she did seem to really dislike his teasing. Didn't she know it was all in good fun? Women.

Eyes shifted over to Ontally as the boy spoke up and offered to start drinking the girl's share. Vukasin had to give it to him, he was pretty brave considering how strong these drinks were but already his lips were curling into another smirk as he waited to see if Chetia would allow him to do so. It would just be another thing to tease her about. In fact, he could probably start that now. As he opened his mouth to do so, she ended up tossing the remainder of her drink like a proper shot. With the slight face making and all.

Then she was on her feet with a finger pointing in his direction with a look that could only mean bad things were coming his way. As her dare reached his ears, Vukasin could only stare at her. This was her revenge? Something so childish? Wait...twenty-four candlemarks? He didn't bother suppressing his groan. Rolling his eyes as she requested another shot, Vukasin debated on if he should just run with the dare or not before he gave a shrug of his shoulders.

Shifting his gaze to Taro, he grinned and wiggled his brows playfully. "Aren't all the lessons supposed to be interesting?" Vukasin paused for just a breath. "I suck tailfork." Okay, this might end up getting on his nerves. However, he could already imagine the candidatemasters' faces and he couldn't say that it wouldn't be a bit entertaining to see how they all reacted to his dare.

Now, who to chose next? Eyes drifting over the rest of the candidates, he paused as they settled on the one who had started all this. "Casimir, truth or dare? I suck tailfork." Eeeh, it was going to be a long twenty-four candlemarks but he was unwilling to let Chetia get the best of him.

When the other male answered truth, Vukasin raised his brow. Did he really want to choose truth? He'd been hoping for a dare. It seemed a few more raised eyebrows and their 'host's' face turn red before he muttered dare. Grinning, he glanced around the room before leaning forwards. "I dare you to kiss m'lady Chetia here for at least a full minute. I suck tailfork." A quick roll of his eyes. His own dare made this one sound weird. But revenge was going to be sweet.

Zariv’s brow rose at Ontally’s words. Drink Chetia’s share for her? Certainly a kind offer, but not quite in the spirit of the game. Chetia’s challenge had been to not use large words, hopefully she could manage the rest of the night without slipping up. Though it seemed by her reaction earlier it would be difficult. Maybe best to not talk at all then. He smiled as she threw back her glass, that was the spirit! Zariv prepared to raise his glass for her when a voice called out his name. He blinked, head swiveling to spot Taro reclining next to Casimir. Too chicken to play?

The ex-miner smirked at that, eyes twinkling mischievously for once. Cup in his hand he stepped away from the wall. “Not at all Tarovir!” he took hold of a lighter chair near at hand and lifted it the short way to the growing circle. Still smiling he took sat down closer to the others. “What kind of miner would I have been if I didn’t know how to win a little drinking game? I kept to the side for everyone’s safety but I’ll join the fun if you’re up to it.”

More words than he would normally say in a day to someone at a time. Perhaps the drink did loosen his tongue a bit. Still he couldn’t help but feel warm in head and chest, it felt good to be among friends and enjoying a silly game. As Chetia rose and dealt punishment to Vukasin he couldn’t help but laugh. A brief chuckle escaping his lips as his eyes moved to observe the candidate. Now this was getting downright entertaining. Twenty-four candlemarks? Zariv sipped at his drink in sympathy and grinned. He’d take extra care to make sure Chetia and Vukasin remembered the conditions of their dares.

The room felt tense as Vukasin turned to call out the next candidate, and Zariv couldn’t help but smirk at every utterance of ‘I suck tailfork’. Beautiful he would need to congratulate Chetia for that later. He nearly dropped his cup at the dare given Casimir. Eyes going wide a moment as he looked between Chetia and Cas. He took a healthy gulp from his cup for the courage.

“Well now Chetia’s done her dare. No need to punish the lady any further.” He smirked and threw Casimir a look. Sure plenty of ladies would like to kiss the young man, but with the present mood he couldn’t help himself.
