Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

It Was Supposed To Be A Nice Night!; Tag: Puppet's Adele

This was supposed to be a nice night. Or at least as nice as Aislyn usually ended up being. She'd come down to the dining hall for a drink, a bite of food, and maybe some conversation or something. Human company and all that. Somehow she'd wound up with a deck of cards and was now sitting across the table from a garnet rider that she couldn't really remember seeing around before. But shards if she wasn't some stiff competition. That and a bit intimidating apparently which is why she was the only one left there to challenge the queen rider.

And she was having a blast.

Also, she was sort of annoyed. Apparently she'd finally met someone who was as competitive as herself and refused to back down. Which had been interesting and fun at first until the insults had started to fly. Of course, her red-head temper flared and she shot back. Now though, now it was time for a different tactic. Glancing the cards in her hand idly before letting her gaze drift to the garnetrider, Adele if she remembered correct, and grinned. "Has anyone ever told you that your eyes are very shiny? Even more so when you're starting to get angry."

You are ridiculous.

And you're supposed to be 'napping'.

Seriously, you know this right?

You do feel the need to remind me of this often, yes. Why? Honestly she knew why. She was flirting with someone who was very clearly not interested and it was something that reminded the copper of Raisa. Though, there had been some interest there, it had ended badly. Roduth didn't want another series of events like that. This was something totally different though. Ais had no interest in....well okay. Sure there maaay be a slight interest but who didn't the red-head find attractive?

Don't worry so much, I'm just having some fun. I'll be back in our weyr. Alone after I win this. Smirking at that thought, Aislyn wiggled her fingers in the direction of the older woman. "Do believe it's your turn, darling~" Oh yes, she was going to enjoy messing with this woman. Maybe she might even realize that the more taunts she threw at Ais the more encouragement she was giving the copperrider.

The copper sighed heavily. Sometimes it was hard to have such a stubborn woman as a rider, but he loved his dearly. Which is why he was already moving to reach out to a certain garnet to whom belonged with the woman his was toying with. Reldyth? Do you have a moment? Best to mend bridges before they were burnt.

Adele hadn't even wanted to come out of her weyr tonight. Only the promise of food to a grumbling stomach had gotten her to come out at all, and then she was accosted by a far-too-talkative candidate. She'd tried to bail out and take her dinner back to her weyr, oh, she did, but without her knowing she somehow ended up sitting at a crowded table. Dinner had turned to wine, wine had turned to cards, and now she sat across from an annoyingly cheerful and flirtatious copperrider.

Why did you let me do this? she complained to Reldyth, staring at her cards hand in distaste. It wasn't an awful hand, but it would be hard to make do with, and this ridiculous Aislyn would just taunt her if she backed down. No, she would play this out to the end. Even if all she really wanted was to crawl back to her weyr and take a bath.

I seem to remember you telling me to leave you alone when I asked if you really wanted to start this, the garnet replied from back at the weyr, where she was stretched out languidly on the ledge. Why don't you just come home, love?

I can't 'just come home'! Adele replied snarkily, barely containing an eye roll. I don't back down from anything, you know that.

Very well, Reldyth replied, rolling over and yawning widely. I guess I won't wait up for you. A note of sadness tinged her tone, but Adele refocused on the table when Aislyn through out her next taunt.

"Oh, really?" she replied casually. "Interesting that you know that, we've just met. When have you seen me angry?" She threw in a wink at that; the queenrider could play that game too. "Have you had your eyes on me? I'm flattered."

She considered her cards for a moment, then tossed out one casually. "Back to you then, sweetie." A slight smirk came to her lips.

Reldyth perked up form her near-slumber when the copper's voice entered her head. Oh! Good evening, Roduth! She greeted cheerfully, rest momentarily forgotten. I do! How are you this fine evening?

Aislyn's smirk only widened at the returned fire before she offered the older woman a small shrug. "And if I was to tell you that I might have had my eye on you? What would you do then?" Oh, she did love this game. Even if it was only in jest the whole 'chase' was entertaining to the red head. That and good practice for whenever she might actually need it. Who knew, maybe the card game would end with two winners?

Doubtful.

Spoilsport.

Eyes narrowed at the card that had been tossed out for a moment before they dragged up to the other rider. Hmmm. She was so cocky. Probably about time Aislyn had met someone who could match her in that department. Flicking her gaze back down to her own hand, she hummed thoughtfully. Honestly, her hand was shaffit; she was focusing on bluffing and distraction to help win.

"Sweetie, hm? Perhaps you've decided to turn those delightfully shiny eyes on me?" Aislyn grinned and gave her own wink as she tossed out a card. "Feel free to back down anytime now. I'm sure we can think of other ways to see who the real winner is." If Adele was willing to keep up the flirting, she would just have to see how long she would tolerate it. Aislyn had found she was quite good at getting under people's skin, if recent events had been anything to go by.

Really, she just wanted the garnetrider to take the bait and make just one tiny mistake. Then she could actually do something with this horrible hand. She'd just have to make sure she shuffled better next time or something, or perhaps her luck was starting to run out?

The cheerfulness of the garnet caused some of his annoyance with his rider to ebb just a bit, hard to be annoyed with someone when talking to a personality such as Reldyth. I am doing very well. How about yourself? Some dragons did choose to sleep around this time and he was unsure if the garnet was one of them. Hopefully he hadn't woken her up. I am not intruding on anything am I?

Adele shrugged casually. "Oh, I guess that would depend on if I was in the mood to give you the nice answer or the honest answer." She took a small sip of the wineglass that was still by her; rolling it around in her mouth and analyzing the taste out of habit. It wasn't bad, not really, but not great by anyone's standards. "And you'll only get me in the 'nice' mood if I've had a lot of wine." If the copperrider was looking for a bedmate that night, she would be sorely disappointed.

The hum Aislyn gave caught Adele's attention immediately. Stalling. She was definitely stalling. Adele contained her smirk easily. If she had any luck, the other woman might slip up soon. A bluff and a straight face could only get you so far by themselves.

Adele hummed herself as Aislyn made her move. "Oh, well, I was taught it's polite to look at someone you're talking to," she replied easily, changing tactics to deflection. "Oh. Hmm. Well, you see, I have no need to back down, but I'm sure we can come up with something if you'd rather!"

With a move like that, she'd bet the other woman either had a bad hand or was trying to fool her into thinking she did. Adele put her next card down nonchalantly. Let's see what she does with that.

Oh, I'm glad to hear that! Reldyth said happily. Other dragons might have asked a question like that to be polite, but this garnet was truly interested in other dragon's well-being. I am wonderful myself! Vaioa is a lovely place, I am glad me and mine came here.

The queen sat up, curling her tail over her toes primly. Even if one was not in the direct presence of someone they were speaking to, it never hurt to sit up and pay them proper attention. Oh, no, not at all! she assured. I am glad to hear from you! Did you wish to speak to me about something?

"I have always preferred honesty over being nice." She grinned before tilting her head as she eyed the wine the garnet rider was drinking. "Though, if needed I'd be glad to continue getting you wine. See what this 'nice' mood is all about." Ahh, it was fun to flirt with people when it was clear they held no interest. But at least Adele seemed to be willing to go along with it.

"Ahh, manners. I heard some people used those sometimes." Aislyn teased, watching the other woman as she waited to see how she reacted to her move. Only to be disappointed. Well, it certainly looked as if she had a good card face; didn't reveal even the slightest hint. Too bad. "Well, I've never backed down from anything. Not gonna start now."

The garnet rider's next move had the red head furrowing her brow a bit. An odd move to make. Perhaps she was better at cards than Aislyn had originally guessed. Well, this could end badly. Unless she continued to bluff. Hmm, yes. Harper training going to be put to good use. "Though, if you have any...interesting ideas, I'd love to hear them." Tapping the edge of a card for a moment, she quickly tossed out her next card and flashed a grin at Adele.

Vaioa's weather is quite enjoyable during the summer. Winter is another story, mine doesn't care much for it because of all the rain. But I am glad you and yours are enjoying your new home. Roduth was quite happy to chat with the garnet, it wasn't every day he got to have a plain ol' conversation that didn't end with him...oh wait.

Well, I'm glad I'm not bothering you. He was quite relieved that he hadn't woken her up, some females could be quite grumpy. Oh, yes. I did wish to speak to you about mine. She and yours are playing cards and I just wanted to apologize ahead of time. Mine has a tendency to get underneath people's skins and upset them. Roduth shifted a bit on his perch. She doesn't seem to understand that not everyone enjoys being teased so much. So if yours comes back in a bad mood....I do apologize.

"It seems we agree on something," Adele said. "Some people can't stand a good dose of truth. It's good to hear you aren't one of them." No matter their age, people that sensitive had always seemed immature to her. The world wasn't nice, you might as well get used to it early on. "Would you really?" she replied indifferently. "Most people don't care to get past the prickles."

"Yes, I'm afraid my dragon drilled such niceties into me early on in her life." Riding a dragon like Reldyth had softened her, made her less rough around the edges than she used to be. And more polite; sometimes. "Well, now, you see, we might have an issue, because neither do I." The queenrider shrugged. "I guess we just have to play this out to the end, now don't we?"

The slight furrowing of the brow, and the move that the copperrider made, almost had Adele crowing in delight. "I do hope you're not suggesting a drinking contest," she said airily, laying her own card gently. "I grew up as a Vinter, you know. I've drunk many a man under the table." And had fun doing it, too. Ten months without a drop of alcohol during weyrlinghood had been rough on her, to say the least.

Reldyth hummed at this revelation. Rain isn't too bad, I guess, she mused. I do love the sun, myself, but a nice rainy day can be awfully pleasant as well. She shook herself gently, as if ridding her hide of imaginary raindrops.

Oh, don't worry, it's never a bother! she told Roduth cheerily, listening as he explained his reasoning. Oh, dear. Yours sounds rather like mine sometimes. She's not very good at being kind. She sighed gently. It's all right. I think mine knew what she was getting into. She wanted the distraction, even if she won't admit it.

"Sometimes ya need the truth to get a better perspective." Aislyn was a lot of things, but she still preferred having the truth told to her about many things. That and the truth just proved to sort out just who was brave to actually speak it, especially to one's face. Another grin crossed her face before she offered up a shrug. "What can I say? I like to get the chance to see behind the prickles." She paused for just a moment. "Or it could be the whole challenge thing. I like challenges."

Humming, Aislyn could understand how Adele felt. Roduth had been slowly chipping away at getting her to use more manners than she was used to. She didn't really like to do so; if someone couldn't handle her as she was naturally then why should she bother with them? Which had the copper throwing the fact that his color was what made her need manners. As a higher ranking dragon it was up to him and her to make sure they gave off the best impressions possible. Which meant keeping the red head in line. "Roduth has managed to do the same to me. Somehow."

"Woah, woah. Why does everyone end up going for drinking contest." She raised an eyebrow. Honestly, now she could see why Roduth was always throwing a bit of a fit about her ending up drinking with others. It seemed to happen pretty often. "I have no desire to drink you under the table. Maybe on the table." Her lips curled into a smirk once more. "Besides, I'm not a man." Her eyes settled on the card that had been laid out before she lazily returned her attention back to her own cards. What to play, what to play. Well it didn't really matter, did it?

Well it isn't quite winter yet, so there will be plenty of sun. Roduth assured her with just a hint of amusement. Though a bit of rain is nice now and then. Then the garnet went on to explain how her rider seemed to be much like his own. Which might not be a good thing. Well, if there is one thing mine is good at, it's being distracting. Just...don't be afraid to let yours know she is quite welcome to ignore half of what mine says.
