Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

A'yar, for Mai

Eventually he'd narrowed all his guesses on the purpose of the meeting down to the question surrounding T'lsin's presence. More and more council members were coming in and taking their seats, most of them casting curious looks in the greenrider's direction. T'lsin seemed unbothered by the scrutiny he was receiving, lounging against the wall with a more or less pleasant expression, like he knew something everyone else didn't.

Which he did, to A'yar's endless curiosity.

He was just considering asking Sith to talk to the lad's green when Mai slid into the seat next to him, her smile one for the records. (Her timing was excellent - asking Sith to speak to other dragons rarely went well for all parties involved.)

"No such thing as a stranger in my Weyr," he joked quietly, glancing quickly at T'ech to make sure that his chit-chat wasn't going to be overrunning the meeting starting. "Life has been much the same."

A'yar favored the woman with a warm grin, cheeks dimpling. "And, of course! I didn't even know that you'd left! How are Aiden and Mirana?"

---

T'ian, tag Ebylin and T'lsin

I will not be staying, I think... Kyzzith murmured, looking at the ledge full of large dragons with the same amount of unease as usual. T'ian gave a soft sigh, sliding from his dragon's neck with care. Unable to deny himself his habit, he gave the closest dragons on the ledge a onceover, scanning their wings and sides for any marks or tears that could have been missed.

When his eyes fell on Halieth he blinked, the corners of his mouth twisting in confusion. The green was certainly familiar, as her petite size and unique coloring made it hard to forget her, but he knew for a fact that she didn't belong to any of the candidate or weyrlingmasters.

That is Halieth, Kyzzith answered his unspoken question, adding on, Isn't she in our wing?

"Yes," T'ian murmured back, wondering what business T'lsin had with the Weyr Council. He bid Kyzzith a temporary farewell as the blue winged away with promises to come retrieve him later, slipping quietly into the council room and taking up a spot on Ebylin's other side, leaning forward to give T'lsin a curious look. The meeting hadn't appeared to be started just yet, which meant that he wasn't late. Good.

"T'lsin, do you have business with the council?" He asked quietly, more of a whisper than anything else, leaning around Ebylin. The greenrider arched an eyebrow at him, wiggling his fingers in a wave.

"I do, in fact. But you'll have to wait to learn what it is."

T'ian leaned back against the wall, frowning. He nodded to Ebylin in a way of greeting, feeling bad for not acknowledging her first. "Good morning, Weyrlingmaster."

Weyr councils always had an air of tension about them. In the beginning, it had put T'ech in such a state afterwards that he'd needed a good massage. Now he had two Turns of experience leading behind him and the sea of expectant - and not necessarily friendly faces - didn't much phase him. He watched heads and eyes swivel to T'lsin, and knew most everyone in the room was wondering the same thing:

What was he doing here?

With T'rran and W'ren, the last of the council had arrived and T'ech cleared his throat. He would keep this short and simple. Inspiring speeches had never been quite his thing and it was better that he just laid everything out on the table. As J'ean had said, there wasn't much they could do about this decision. If every last one of them threw in the towel, he'd have to reconsider. But it shouldn't be so horrible an idea to justify such incredible dramatics.

"Thank you for coming at such short notice. Before I begin, I'm sure you all are aware that S'dax has stepped down from his position as Basalt Wingleader. R'nault will be taking his place. I have every confidence in him to do an admirable job, as should you all. Copperrider Ry'ker of Tath will be stepping into the Wingthird position."

It was a deceptively normal way to start the meeting, T'ech almost felt bad for the bomb he was about to drop on them. "I'd like to keep this brief but I'm sure you will all have...questions. Talora and I will answer them to the best of our abilities. In short, the wings have become over populated and over saturated with unappreciated talent. Our most valuable resource has always been our blues and greens, but I don't believe they are reaching their full potential bound to the back of our wings the way they are."

The implications of what he was saying were likely dawning on them now. He gestured for T'lsin and Ebylin to move forward before anyone could interject.

"I'd like to introduce you to our two new Wingleaders, Ebylin and T'lsin. They will be heading two small exclusively blue and green wings functioning in a similar fashion to the Queen's wing, but operating in the upper and mid altitudes. Since most greens and blues can't last an entire fall, one of these wings will be a reserve wing, set to swoop in when the first tires. I believe this will keep our injury rate down, and ultimately lead to far less casualties in Threadfall."

There was a moment of silence, T'ech squirmed a bit, conscious of many pairs of stunned eyes on him. What he was proposing - no, what he was doing - had never been done before to the best of his knowledge. Pern's hierarchy had been well-established for centuries and it wasn't often that anyone dared to challenge it. A green wingleader was unheard of. But progress, he felt, didn't always mean taking little steps forward. Sometimes you had to run.

Taiori was just sitting down in the chair beside Al'dai as T'ech's speech began. Sure, she was supposed to be listening to their diminutive leader, but she found herself focus almost exclusively on her riding jacket. Unfortunately, the most recent bandit encounter had ruined her favorite item of clothing beyond repair, and it took a few weeks of waiting for a tanner to construct a new version for her. It wasn't the same, though. This hide jacket was cut quite differently from the one she had been wearing for Turns. It was cut just a smidgeon more tightly at the waist...

...Ry'ker of Tath will be...

The collar, ugh, it was fleece-lined! Her last coat had an honest corduroy inlay. This fluff just tickled at her neck, and she swatted a few tendrils of it in annoyance, trying to pat it down and away from her skin...

...saturated with unappreciated talent...

Well, of course it made all of the sharding new fasteners on her coat jingle. In fact, the gentle tinkle of the copper buttons was haunting her. It followed her everywhere she went, plaguing her every step. Why did they have to be metal? It was so garish. What was wrong with a good polished bone button? The noise was infuriating.

...new Wingleaders, Ebylin and T'lsin.

Suddenly, the copperrider's jacket was out of mind, now insignificant compared to the verbal atom bomb which T'ech had dropped on them. Green.... Wingleaders? She looked to where the riders themselves sat. Ebylin and T'lsin? Neither were particularly impressive to look at, nor wholly remarkable (especially T'lsin, who was an overly slight creature, to Taiori's measure). Taiori looked back to Al'dai's broad figure for a moment, then to T'lsin once more. A look of dubious concern crossed her face, which was starting to turn into a frown.

Al'dai felt significantly more at ease with his crass wingsecond next to him. She didn't care about manners most of the time, an unfortuante fault for someone who might represent the Weyr on outings, but she was loyal and had a good heart, for all her faults. He briefly considered for a moment the thought of T'ech removing her or transferring her. Sure, she lacked finesse, but he doubted the man would consider it. Taiori was competent.

He exchanged a brief smile with her and then turned to survey T'ech. The man was definitely nervous, Al'dai could read that easily. T'ech was not generally very easy to read but today he wore his nerves like a coat.

The news about R'nault was not unexpected and Al'dai almost sat back and relaxed. Nothing strange about that, to be honest. Wingleader shuffles happened whenever riders started going a bit funny, as S'dax had recently.

But a simple change in Wingleaders surely wasn't enough to make T'ech so squirrely. He continued to watch the man, narrowing his eyes suspiciously.

Not reaching their full potential? Al'dai would have scoffed at that normally. Al'dai had a very high level of respect for the blues and greens in his wings. T'ech made it sound like the colors were martyrs. Well, not in Sandstone they weren't. They were an enormously valuable asset, and Al'dai had incorporated them well into the wing structure, so that they didn't stay bound to the back of the wings. This was all a bunch of soft nonsense. Or maybe T'ech just didn't run his own wing as progressively as he liked to think. Al'dai actually almost rolled his eyes.

T'ech's next words stopped him in his tracks, though. He froze and remained frozen, staring in shock at the Weyrleader. New Wingleaders? Exclusively blue and green wings?

The room was heavy with silence. Al'dai glanced around the table briefly, then at Ebylin and T'lsin. Nobody spoke.

His mind raced. Al'dai supposed the change itself was not as big a deal as it had warranted... perhaps it was even a good idea, if it was solving any problem... but Al'dai failed to see what problem it was supposed to solve. Blues and greens were already enormously effective in the wing structure as it was now. Why bother adjusting the whole structure just to give them their own space? And how was it going to feel to non- green and blueriders who were excluded from these wings? Al'dai had never, not once, privileged any color of dragon over another. But this seemed like it could have potential consequences.

Not to mention.... Al'dai stared for a long moment at T'lsin's arrogant smirk. Such a young child, really, and clearly full of himself. Well, Al'dai had serious doubts about that one's ability to lead. He knew Ebylin would be fine... She had been in charge of youngsters like T'lsin for turns now. But T'lsin... Al'dai knew nothing about the rider, nothing about his personality or abilities. But he didn't seem like a competent leader.

Still, Al'dai wasn't dumb enough to question the new Wingleader in front of everyone, especially not T'ech. But as he mused on the new wings, another thought occurred to him. If they were creating new wings, where were the riders for these new wings coming from?

"Excuse me," he spoke up, in a flat tone. He looked down the table at T'ech. His expression was blank. "Does this mean I'll be losing the blues and greens in my wing?" Not only would he have to work on reordering his entire wing, but Merilla.... Merilla would no longer be in a place he could keep an eye on her. His heart ached for a moment as he imagined flying into Threadfall and not being able to toss the occasional glance her way and make sure she and Endyrth were fine, as he did so easily these days. She would be stuck in this young wherry's wing, chasing after Thread like a bandit after copper. The very idea brought dislike for these new wings bubbling up.

Tis the season for santa dragons
Tag : Atlen

He gave Atlen a startled look as she slipped into the chair next tom him. "Oh! Ah thank you." R'nault answered, ducking his head to hide the sudden flush of red to his cheeks. Wingleaders probably weren't suppose to get flustered quite so easily. "I hope so. So far Kre's been better at that than I have." He gave her a grateful smile. He wished he could have adjusted as quickly as his Bronze. Krejuth accepted his new position as the one he'd always been meant more. R'nault just wished it had come later rather than sooner.

R'nault swung with gaze to T'ech as he cleared his throat. He dropped shifted nervously when he was announced as Basalt's Wingleader. If felt odd to be replacing S'dax. If an experience rider had stepped down how well could be possibly do? Still if T'ech thought he and Krejuth were up to the task then maybe they were.

He was relieved when the Weyrleader moved on with the meeting, though his relief was quickly replaced by confusion. A quick glance around the table revealed he wasn't the only one. He'd always tried to treat the Blues and Greens of his wing with respect. They were important and often performed maneuvers that the larger dragons could even attempt. Granted they didn't get the same attention that the larger dragons often did, but that didn't make them any less important.

New Wingleaders? He stared wide eyed at Ebylin and T'lsin. "Can we send Bismuth to one of them. Please. R'nault ignored his dragon's query, still trying to process the announcement. There had never been strickly blue and green wings before. They had always been mixed in with everyone else. Granted in a way did make sense to have wings of the more agile dragons. Yet it went against turns and turns of tradition. Vaioa was know for being rather progressive, but this might be too much for some to willingly accept.

It was worth a try. At worst it simply didn't work and things would go back to how there were. Not working would mean injuries and death. Nothing lowered moral faster. If it did work it could change how thread was fought, especially if it did result in fewer casualties. He glanced toward Al'dai and back to T'ech.

T’ven

T’ven sat back in his seat, arms crossed against his chest. Even beneath his rider’s jacket the room felt cold, hostile. He glanced at his side, but Tyr’velas had not moved, the lack of warmth in his features causing T’ven to quickly turn away. He had expected some warmth, he had helped get the copperrider out of that bandit situation after all, or maybe a few friendly words. He didn’t want to push it, Tyr’velas’ reply to his initial question had said enough. T’ven looked away from that side of the room, keeping his eyes to the friendlier rider’s gathering. It felt strange to sit among them, and feel so apart. He knew Ebylin and Mai well enough, and quite enjoyed seeing his former teachers. The rest though…he considered T’ech a friend, but he hadn’t spent time with the rest.

Perhaps if you didn’t spend so much time with Kari you could widen your circle of friends.

A blush hinted at T’ven’s cheeks, but he smiled. Oh I’ll get to know them in time I’m sure.

But their chatter would have to wait as T’ech prepared to speak. T’ven nodded, the entire weyr had been babbling about S’dax stepping down for some weeks. It had only been a matter of time before a new wingleader was named, but most everyone knew who that would be anyways. T’ven grinned at R’nault, he would do well, couldn’t do worse than his successor at least. His brow rose at the other announcement. Ry’ker?

Tath is an excellent dragon. A good choice.

Since when did you know more people in the weyr?

Since I made it my business to know as many as possible. Really you should know those two already they have been here for quite some time.

T’ech wasn’t done though. Blinking T’ven gave the weyrleader his attention once more, wondering just where all this headed. Talk about overpopulated wings and unappreciated talent, of course yes greens and blues did most of the work in threadfall…and then Ebylin and T’lsin stepped forward. Wingleaders. T’ven’s eyes went wide, his arms dropping as he leaned forward. Really? They were going to make exclusive green and blue wings?

“That’s fantastic.” His thoughts mumbled beneath his breath. He felt the glare from his side before turning to see that cold stare. He bit at his tongue, quickly looking away from Tyr’velas. Al’dai’s flat tone echoed from across the table. T’ven had never been much of a thinker, he liked doing things, and this felt like they would be doing something. Enabling green and blue riders to fly as fast and as free as they could without the restrictions of a wing formation following larger dragons. He had seen Kari with Seliath, and the things they could do…this seemed brilliant. Surely Al’dai’s worries were unfounded; they must have enough greens and blues for this.

T’ven blinked, looking over the room, but no one else spoke. He didn’t really know if it was his place to speak, all the rest here had position within wings or as teachers. Well, he had Shalagoth, but he still felt like a weyrling when surrounded by these competent riders. T’ech needed him though, or maybe he didn’t, he wasn’t sure, but he felt it right to speak. “A bold new idea, but I personally think it’s fantastic. Our numbers are plentiful now,” he turned slightly towards Al’dai, “sparing some for specialized wings may prove the best decision in turns.”

He couldn’t help it, he grinned as he looked up at Ebylin and T’lsin, “You both have my congratulations and support.”

________

Tyr’velas

“This is foolishness.”

Tyr’s voice nearly cut off T’ven’s encouragement. The copperrider’s chair scraped harshly against the floor as he pushed it back. Movements slow he rested his bandaged hand on the table and stood. His eyes narrowed in on Ebylin and he felt the bile rise in his throat. Tyr’velas had to bite at his tongue, foolish, hot-headed, he had spoken with her before. To think she would be a wingleader, to say nothing of the fool boy standing beside her.

“Did the thread eat its way to your brain when it took your eye T’ech?”

Of course the man that beat a candidate would be the only one thinking clearly. But Tyr’velas pointedly ignored Al’dai, his distaste still strong for the bronzerider. Sandstone was a cesspit as far as he was concerned, flying with leaders like Taiori…Faranth he didn’t know what to think of that one. She had saved him, but he still hated the thought of her taking charge of anything.

“Even if I were to agree with this new wing idea, these are the two riders you chose? Aren’t there greenriders not already busy training weyrlings? And perhaps ones that don’t seem only a few turns out of weyrlinghood.”

Faranth his head ached. He looked down at his right hand, willed his fingers to move, just lift shaffit. His breath left him all at once. Left hand balling into a fist, knuckles going white as the frustration burned. Nothing. Twisted, broken, useless. Before he could think it through his working hand went to his shoulder and delicately removed the knots.

“I will have no part in this.” He tossed the knots lightly to the table in front of T’ech, then raised his right hand, his own eyes observing the mangled fingers, 'healed', but the master had said something inside could never form correctly again. Just strapping Rhaeth up these days took too long. “As it stands I cannot perform my duties well enough to in good conscience remain your wingthird. I do apologize for my earlier remark, anger got the best of me.”

He lowered his hand.

“But you should have at least consulted the council before naming the wingleaders yourself. This ‘surprise’ is distasteful and childish.”

With that he sat back down.

The groan which escaped Taiori after Tyr's miniature rant ended cut through the awkward silence it left behind. She snatched her own cap right off her head and chucked it to the table top in a small gesture of frustration. Both hands came up to knead hard at her temples.

"I'll have no part of it, he says, right before he puts his ass right back in his chair. Scamper out of here, then, if yore frillies are in such a twist you can't stand it, Tyr'velas. Can't say I care much for it myself; that one there is woman, and that one... may be a child," admitted Taiori, with another critical glance at T'lsin. She wasn't really certain what to make of him.

"Still yet, we ain't even given them a chance to get Scored to death. Our Weyrleaders think they deserve that," spat Taiori. She crossed her arms firmly over her chest and sat back in her seat again, petulant.

"Least we can do is see how they fly, Faranth bless, but..." said Taiori before trailing off. She pinched the bridge of her nose and shut her eyes for a moment, trying to express clearly how she felt.

"Weyrleader, you don't make a herd out of calves."

Mai

Mai took all of the news with good grace, even about the new wings. She was very surprised and taken aback, but openminded to the idea. It was worth a try, anyway. Mai had always been fond of trying new things.

When the hubbub began, though-- in a very predictable manner-- Mai matched the other council members begin to react.

Al'dai had a good point. She personally didn't care too much which wing she was in, as she only flew Thread half the time anyway. But it was important to know in case she'd be moved to these new wings. It would be a whole new dynamic to get used to.

T'ven seemed to share her feelings on the matter, only... as she looked over at Ebylin, a frown creased her face. Now that she thought about it, if Ebylin was leaving her current position, they'd be down one Weyrling Master. Mai found that to be problematic because the four of them had split the workload quite well, and Mai frankly didn't think they were ready to reduce the number of masters. It would leave her, T'ian, and W'ren overburdened.

Before she had a chance to interject, though, Tyr'velas and Taiori both added their thoughts. And that was when Mai couldn't keep it to herself any longer.

She was not a tall rider-- hardly any difference between standing and sitting, though she was not exactly diminutive. Nonetheless she found her feet and stared back at Taiori with a mixture of shock and disgust.

"I've worked with Ebylin for well over two turns and I can tell you, her being a woman doesn't make her any less qualified for this position than you, or me," she said coldly. Not that she wanted to lose Ebylin as a Weyrling master, but she'd seen the woman's expression and knew how much this meant-- it was painfully obvious Ebylin was proud beyond measure. If some half-witted, back-country wingsecond with no manners was going to try and take that away, well, Mai figured maybe she shouldn't be a wingsecond.

Mai cleared her throat and sat back down. "I was wondering, Weyrleader," she added sweetly before anyone else could talk over her. "Since I'm losing a colleague, does that mean you're looking into finding another Weyrling Master to take her place? Or perhaps you have someone in mind?" Mai knew T'ech was't interested in women-- unfortunately, because he had quite the nice set of biceps on those arms-- but she couldn't help giving him a brief flash of bedroom eyes nonetheless. A little ogling never hurt anyone.

Al'dai's reaction was surprisingly muted, but then, the bronzerider had proved himself startlingly level-headed time after time so T'ech felt a tad bad about expecting him to explode with fury over the announcement. Tyr on the other hand....Tyr didn't disappoint. After his outburst, T'ech stared down at his knots on the table and picked them up, let Taiori and Mai speak their piece and then cleared his throat again. Well, he'd been expecting a show, and this manchild had provided one.

"If you're resigning," the Weyrleader said with practiced calmness, rolling the knots of rank between his fingers, "then I ask that you leave. You're free to transfer out of this Weyr if this offends you so, or you can go back to being a wingrider. You are not so valuable a resource that I cannot find an easy replacement for you when you act with this level of disrespect."

It would infuriate the man, he knew, but T'ech had realized long ago that he couldn't please everyone, and trying to do so was folly. All you could do was your best. If that meant people hated you, then so be it. "I assure you that I didn't just yank Ebylin out of her position with no mind for a replacement. We spoke at length and she volunteered. She is one of our most experienced and capable riders. If you can trust her to ready new generations of dragons for threadfall you can trust her at the head of a wing. As our Weyrwoman has proved again and again, women are just as capable of leadership as men."

He leveled a one-eyed glower in Taiori's direction. What place did that sort of idiocy have in a leadership position? None. T'ech had a low opinion of this copperrider already. Her attitude of consistent disrespect, apparent laziness, and sexism seemed wholly out of place in a wing as well run as Al'dai's. He wondered what the man could possibly see in her. If she had a problem with women leadership, then she'd obviously been shoving her fingers in her eyes and ears for her entire life to not have noticed Weyrwomen doing their jobs.

He turned his attention back to Al'dai since, surprise, he was by far the most reasonable of his dissenters. "I'm glad you asked, actually." He reached for his charts and spread the largest of them out over the table, weighing it down at the corners. "These aren't full-sized wings we're talking about, not yet. If you were expecting to lose every blue and green in your wing, rest easy. They're small, as to not put a burden on the wings they'll be borrowing from. This is very much an experimental idea; if Ebylin and T'lsin don't prove themselves as perfectly capable as I know they'll be, these will be absorbed back into the normal fighting wings."

He looked to Talora for support and added, "We have Hematite graduating in less than a month as well, with greens and blues to replace the less than a dozen you will be losing between you. I'm not so thick as to strip your wings of the entirety of its fighting population."

Ebylin - Tag: T'ian & whoever else/open

It took so much willpower not to stand there tapping her foot as she waited. No impatience, just nervousness. She knew why she was there and had even kept it from her own dragon as a precaution. Ebylin knew that the news wouldn't be received all that well by some the higher ranking leaders. Sure some she knew were open minded about things but even they might have trouble accepting what T'ech would be announcing. Seeing T'lsin arrive she tried not to laugh. The boy looked as smug as a bronze who caught the gold. Not that it was that bad of a thing, confidence would be needed in for what would come ahead. The room was filling quickly and the more familiar faces that arrived the more nervous Ebylin began to feel.

T'ian showing up and placing himself on her other side had nearly gone unnoticed until he tried to talk to T'lsin around her. She chuckled at her fellow greenrider's response to T'ian's question. Good and vague. Ebylin then turned to T'ian when he decided to greet her too. "Good morning, T'ian. Hope you're in for an interesting meeting."

And that was all she'd say on the matter as she chuckled again and turned her focus to T'ech once more. For some reason that had pushed away her nerves and left her feeling a little more relaxed. Then it started. Everyone was present and T'ech started talking, beginning his speech with something the group expected. Good tactic. Keep them relaxed before dropping a bomb on them. It was when her and T'lsin were called forward that she felt her nerves raring their ugly head again. But she forced them down as hard as she could. There was nothing to be nervous about, not at all. Sure there would be complaints and that was to be expected but no one could take how much it meant to her away. She moved to stand close to T'ech's seat and nodded her head to Talora in respect before facing everyone who was watching.

The moment T'ech finally said the words, Ebylin's body went rigid as if to brace against an attack. She kept her stance straight and proud but anyone that looked close enough could see the nervous twitch of her eye. To calm down she kept her mind focused on one thing. Morley. Her weyrmate didn't know about her sudden promotion and she planned to make it a big surprise that night. They were going to celebrate till they couldn't anymore if she had her way. Thinking of having an evening with her weyrmate always eased her mind. Even a small smirk returned to her face and her muscled relaxed so she wasn't so tense. Harnteth, who was worried about how anxious her rider felt, kept poking at her. Ebylin was keeping certain thoughts blocked off from her and she didn't like it. The green would find out soon enough though.

Though she could see the shock on many faces, the one that spoke up first had been Al'dai. She could tell from his expression he wasn't too happy about the decision but that wasn't what he voiced. He seemed concerned about losing his wingriders. Understandable, any good wingleader would be worried about losing their wingriders. Her opinion of the man wasn't terribly high since the candidate incident, but he was a competent leader and considering the situation in which he hurt that boy...she could chalk it up to heat of the moment. Though it didn't completely excuse what happened. If it had been any of HER students she would have flayed his sorry hide. In all honesty she still wanted to after she had heard but everyone else got to him first.

Next person she heard made her smile in gratitude. T'ven had been a great student and so far a fantastic member of his wing. Hearing him praise the idea and even congratulate her made her relax all the more. Before she could speak up to thank him, the one man she had hoped to Faranth wouldn't say a word, opened his mouth. Sure she had expected him to, probably everyone did. Didn't mean she wanted him to. When he glared her way she glared right back with anger boiling beneath the surface of the calm exterior she tried to keep in place. Pompous, arrogant, egotistical, overambitious, selfish son of a diseased swine. Anytime she had ever spoken with him it was like talking to the business end of a runner. Full of dung and putrid hot air.

As much as she wanted to say something against what he was spouting she remained silent. There was no point in egging him on and make herself look bad after just being promoted. Toward the end of his little tantrum he took off his knots and Ebylin raised a brow in surprise. Tyr'velas giving up a high ranking position. That wasn't something she ever thought she'd see. But hey more opportunity for whoever is under him right? That and it would mean he wouldn't be showing his face to meetings anymore. Bonus.

Of course Tyr wasn't the only one that was going to speak. Taiori, a woman that Ebylin found interesting and frustrating, said her piece. She smirked slightly at how she spoke to the other copperrider but twitched listening to the rest. 'That one there is woman'...Really? Who was she to talk? If Ebylin thought about it though it kind of made sense. Taiori was always 'one of the guys' from how she interacted with others. Far more masculine than feminine. Perhaps there was something to that? Who knew but at the moment Ebylin didn't know whether to sock her in the face or appreciate her honesty. If the lot of them wanted some kind of proof of her dedication maybe she should just tear off her shirt and show them the scars on her back. The ones from where thread had eaten its way through her jacket and to the bone. She was lucky it didn't kill her.

It wasn't easy just standing there listening to them but what else was she going to do? Ebylin wasn't willing to throw herself into pointless arguments with those that disagreed with the idea. Traditions, pride, and honor were on the line and many didn't want to see anything change so drastically. Their reactions were understandable and expected. It didn't make it hurt any less that some could be so narrow-minded. At least T'ven had been kind about it and she would make sure to buy him a drink next chance she had.

Mai's standing up and speaking to Taiori took her by surprise at that moment. The smaller woman's words warmed Ebylin and she had to fight the urge to laugh with relief. Once she finished addressing T'ech, Ebylin waved slightly to get the woman's attention and mouthed 'Thank You' with a small smile. It meant more than she could express that Mai stood up for her. And combined with T'ven's previous words was making the meeting far more tolerable.

At last T'ech spoke up again in response to the reactions he received. The man had truly grown since his last term as Weyrleader, fully competent and no longer a complete wreck in the face of opposition. Ebylin could honestly say she was proud of the man and honored to have him in charge. She especially enjoyed how he handled Tyr's little fit. Handled with perfection in her opinion. If she wasn't taken and was more into men and if T'ech was single and more into women...she'd kiss the shaffit out of him later for it. Then he continued on and she nodded slightly to him mentioning how they met to talk about her new position. When the offer was made she had thought about it for only a moment before whole-heartedly accepting. It was an answer to her worries for her future. T'ech's praise of her abilities made her cheeks flush slightly and she stood a little straighter.

Now she listened and waited once again for anymore reactions from the crowd as T'ech finished. Anymore complaints would sound pointless in her opinion since T'ech just told them how well thought out the idea was. If anything they shouldn't have been worried at all. But what were you gonna do with a room full of traditionalists?

[ooc: omg this thing became a bit monstrous...so sorry. Its mostly inner monologue but I thought I'd post SOMETHING.]
