Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Collapsing in a chair in the dining hall with a groan, Norsa immediately beckoned over a drudge, asking for a plate of whatever was on hand and a skin of wine. She hurt all over. Was it too much to ask for a day where nothing in particular happened? And honestly, how had she gotten roped in to helping that holder herd together his herdbeasts, which the dimglow had caused to stampede in the first place?

When the drudge returned, Norsa flashed the woman a thankful smile before immediately pouring a healthy cupful of wine and digging into her meal. Thank goodness she had a free day tomorrow. It'd be good to soak these aches she'd developed over the long day. Maybe Pyvath would like to go out for something more challenging than herdbeast? She'd ask him later.

When the bluerider was almost done with her meal, Amnesty appeared with a pitiful chirp, mournfully eyeing what remained of Norsa's meal. With an eyeroll, she pushed the plate towards the gold firelizard, who dove in with delight. "Spoiled, you are," she murmured as she picked up her glass and gazed around at the dining hall. It was still fairly full, being early in the evening. Most riders were coming in now for the evening meal. Hearing raised voices in the corner, she looked over to see a green rider and a brown rider she didn't know by name. From their complexions they'd been drinking for a while and she hoped it wouldn't turn into anything.

Tuning the pair out, she shut her eyes and leaned over the back of the chair to pop her neck before straightening. By the shell she could use a massage. For a moment her thoughts strayed to Ebylin but then she forced them away. That had been over and done with for months and there was no sense in dwelling on what-ifs and might-haves. By Faranth she had given the best massages though. Reaching back her own hand, she rubbed her neck before taking another sip of wine. If those two would quit arguing maybe she could possibly have a relaxful evening?

Ry'ker glared at the pair to his right, they were starting to show that they not just reeked of wine, but they were completely intoxicated. He'd put up with their growing boisterousness was getting to him. His eyes hurt, his fingers hurt, and he just wanted to eat his meal in silence. He'd been stitching through leather for most of his day after drills.

Finally he'd had enough. Jerking to his feet and startling the two riders, glaring at them as he picked up his tray. Storming off to get some distance between himself and the two other riders. Finding a more empty area he put down his food and sat heavily. Glancing at the rider near him who had her eyes closed and looked like she was trying to get rid of a kink in her neck.

Taking another bite of food and put his utensils down to rub his eyes with the heels of his hands as he chewed. Seemingly his departure didn't silence those two for more than a moment. He brushed off Tath who was trying to get him to relax and ignore those who were ruining his free time trying to feed himself.

Hearing a thump nearby, Norsa cracked open one eye, glancing over to her new neighbor. He looked to be just as fed up with the arguing pair as she was. She offered him a small smile before closing her eyes again. While she was distracted, Amnesty had spotted the newcomer as well. The gold firelizard tilted her head one way and then another considering this man before creeping over slowly, trilling in greeting. She could tell he was tense, just like her person. Everyone seemed so upset. She hesitantly rubbed her head against his arm, chirping a question.

Norsa looked back up as she heard her flitt, hoping she wasn't making any mischief. Seeing her by the other rider, she sighed. "Oh, Am, leave the poor man alone. I'm sure he doesn't want to be bothered by you," she said to the gold. Amnesty let out an affronted cheep and stayed right where she was. She was just trying to be nice. She wasn't hurting anything! Trying to be patient with the gold, Norsa sucked in a deep breath before focusing on the other rider. "I'm sorry about her. She's really headstrong. I'm Norsa, by the way. I don't believe we've officially met before, though I know I've seen you around."

It seemed he just couldn't be left alone, though a firelizard versus the two boisterous riders was a welcome change. He was seldom willing to relax, and look at how it turned when he tried. Staring down at the gold as she greeted him and rubbed against him. Chewing he broke his eyes away from the firelizard to the woman nearby who was talking to the friendly gold. Glancing between the two and shrugged "Its no bother, really."

He'd never really given much thought to owning a firelizard, not really something he was willing to spend his time for caring for along with all the other things he filled his days with. Though this gold didn't seem like some of the pesky critters he'd seen before. Tearing up a roll he offered the little queen a morsel, not thinking to ask first, after all he seldom interacted with firelizards socially, and had never actually owned a pet of his own. "Ry'ker of copper Tath. I'm not usually one for going out of my way to say hi." In fact he'd have rather taken his meal if it hadn't been for his dragon's insistence on him leaving their weyr for more than just training and working. He'd forced Ry'ker into that candidate lesson, which thankfully all they had to focus on was catching the children before they ended up tumbling to their deaths. Leaning forwards a bit to close a little distance he offered his hand to the other rider.

Well, at least Am wasn't bothering him then, Norsa thought to herself as she watched the pair. She watched as the gold took the offering politely, not snatching it from his hands as soon firelizards were wont to do. Well, if the sharding gold didn't listen she at least had a good set of manners. The bluerider couldn't help but grin at the male's form of introduction. "Yes, I can see that," she said, but it was in a good-natured way. She could tell from his body posture that he was unhappy being here.

She accepted his handshake, returning a firm grip and smiled at him. "Sometimes I detest coming here myself, especially if there is going to be an arguing pair like that one over there," she told him, rolling her eyes in direction of the loud riders. "I'm hoping someone will shut them up soon."

Or you could just leave. There is a nice grassy patch in the weyrbowl that's free right now. Pyvath suggested. He should know, because that was where he was camped out for the evening until Norsa decided she wanted to return to her weyr.

"Want some peace and quiet?" Norsa asked Ry'ker suddenly. "My blue has offered us his spot in the weyrbowl. And it will get us away from this mess here. We can grab some glows, some wine, some food and just go sit." She wasn't sure if the copper rider would accept the suggestion, but she figured it was worth a try. He looked really irritated and tense and would probably do him some good.

He gave a sharp little exhale through his nose, almost the start of a chuckle. "I'd be more than happy to take the liberties if I thought it would do anything but give me a headache." Doubtless getting between the two would have them unite in yelling at him. Taking another bite of his meal and offered the gold another morsel, he sort of liked the fact the firelizard, the fact she'd not taken off a finger the first time put her in his good books.

Ry'ker nearly choked at Norsa's sudden offer. "I uh..." He managed in a strained voice before coughing in attempt to clear his airways. His intention was to decline. After all, even this was more interaction that his days usually entailed. Unfortunately, or perhaps otherwise, his non-irritability towards the firelizard had bled through his bond with Tath. The copper wasn't about to let him turn down such an offer.
So, a pretty girl is offering you an escape from something that annoys you and you want to throw it back in her face? Thought you had more sense than that, plus outside I can join you.
Ry'ker winced as he listened to his dragon, typically the copper set the idea in such a way that he'd be doing something he didn't want to either way, and thus making the invite the best option for him. The copper always pushed him to be social, while Ry'ker lacked the ability to see the appeal.

"I...I guess so." He said, a small amount of defeat in his voice. He could only hope he'd not regret joining the other rider. Though she'd not given him any reason to thinks so, but he feared she'd end up being of a personality he couldn't stand, and end up having to have more social interactions there on out. "It is at your own risk, you're officially warned that I'm not the best at...interactions" Rising to his feet he glanced around for an idea of where to grab a wineskin. Planning on taking that and his tray out with them. Of course if she changed her mind he'd give her the chance to slip away without making up an excuse "Guess we'll meet at the exit if you're still up for it."
