Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

The Good Kind of Crazy
She blushed a little more, “I freeze up when I see tunnelsnakes.” She admitted… normally she wasn’t this talkative about her fear. “I had a very bad incident when I was young dealing with them.” Being trapped in a ravine with no way to escape and tunnelsnakes clawing up her legs had left a very deep scar on her young mind those turns ago. She shivered at the memories.

She did smile a little. “I guess running would have been a good idea though, but I probably would have gotten more lost.” It was a good thing she was a small woman, carrying her probably wasn’t the easiest thing, but she was grateful to him for doing so. Strands of hair fell from her tightly coiled braid to fall across her face; it was a testament to how tight the braid was that it wasn’t more disheveled.

Coruth followed Riventh, her head constantly turning in the to look at the cliff as if she could, by shear force of will, see through the stone to her rider. When the two dragons arrived at the infirmary, the grey leaned down to stick her head through the door to look around. How long would it take for C’ail to reach the infirmary from the lowercaverns.

"Ah," C'ail said again and could think of nothing to add, no way to comfort her though he felt her shudder in his arms. But she made up for his lack of conversational prowess, and he was pleased to see a small smile curve her lips. She was recovering from her fearful ordeal quickly then; talking seemed to help.

"That is a problem," C'ail conceded. "I guess in that case you would have to weigh your options and choose the less dangerous route." In spite of the woman's weight in his arms, he lifted his shoulders in a mild shrug. "You'll just have to familiarize yourself with the caverns to avoid such a problem in the future."

He faltered again, still seeking to distract her from her pain. "So you were lost, then. But why were you even still awake? It's beyond late."

Riventh loped into the dragonbay--the furthest he could get into the infirmary. Peering around, he eventually settled himself on one of the empty dragon couches to wait. Sensing the grey's impatience, he said softly, Soon. They'll be here soon.

Gaea smiled shakily, it would take a lot to get her to explore after this, she’d be jumping at shadows for days. Just like when she had had a run in at Fort when she had been there. At his next question she gave a wry grin, “I was held up while on a sweep, some holder was convinced he needed to spell out every single problem he had to me, too hours to finally get away. I didn’t quite like how little food was left out… so I went in search of the kitchens to make myself something.”

She knew it hadn’t been the best of decisions, she had been tired and hungry, now she was tired, hungry and in pain. What a great improvement. “I take it you were one of the watchriders?” She asked, she doubted he had had the same problem she had. He seemed like the man who would just tell the holder off and head back on his route… she had the issue of everyone wanting to tell her their problems.

Coruth gave Riventh a sheepish look before moving to sit beside him, she was a little nervious but she knew pacing did little to speed up time. It is hard to just sit back and wait she admitted to him, her tail twitching as she watched the entrance of the infirmary.

C'ail returned her smile and made a noise in his throat that might have been a chuckle. "Tough luck," he said, then gave a brief nod at her question. "That's right. Riventh and I just got off duty. Good timing, I guess." He paused. "I know what you mean about the food."

I'm sure it must be, Riventh said, his voice hushed and gentle. Your rider is hurt and you cannot help. I would find waiting difficult too, were I in your position. Then he stirred, raising his head a little higher. C'ail tells me he is close.

"Almost there," he murmured to the woman as he rounded another corner. Just a short walk down the corridor, C'ail fumbled to open the door at the end without disturbing the woman too much, then shoved it open with his foot. "Hello?" he called, stepping inside, his dark eyes scanning the immediate area for any signs of life.

“Right fardling mess I made of it though,” she muttered with a sigh, thinking about how quickly her night had turned to a wherries bum. It was disconcerting to feel the trickle of blood down into her boot… it would take hours to clean out the blood later. It did remind her how she had been told of how one decision could turn just about anything on its head. She winced a little as her foot knocked the edge of the door frame as C’ail walked into the infirmary.

Coruth tried not to twitch too much as she waited. It was terrible having to wait, but she was reassured by how confident Riventh sounded. She was a constant presence in Gaea’s mind though. She tried to be as soothing as she could to her injured rider.

"Ah--sorry." Despite his care, the woman's injured leg knocked against the door as he passed through. C'ail's mouth twisted apologetically and his eyes darted down to meet hers, but the soft sound of footsteps diverted his attention. He looked up to see a small woman come into view, her brow furrowed and her dark eyes questioning.

"What happened?" she asked, eyeing Gaea.

"Tunnelsnake bite. Near the kitchens."

The healer waved C'ail toward the nearest unoccupied bed. "Come on now, lay her here."

C'ail followed and lay her down as gently as he could, taking special care not to jar her leg, while the healer stepped to his side to glance over the wound. She hovered there for only a second or two before she hurried off, returning a moment later with a few extra pillows. As C'ail stepped back, giving her ample space to work, she placed the pillows behind Gaea's back to support her, keep her propped up--heart above the level of the bite.

"There," Hama murmured, smiling at Gaea, her voice gentle. "Just sit back and relax. There's no need to worry; tunnelsnake bites are easy to treat." She bustled off to sanitize her hands and retrieve her supplies, directing C'ail as she did so, "Make yourself useful and get her boot off. And get her a blanket. Next to the cot--yes, right there." At this hour, there was little help to find.

C'ail draped a blanket around the woman's shoulders and moved to unlace her boot, his movements uncharacteristically awkward. He didn't know anything about healing, and after accidently bumping her foot when they'd entered the infirmary, he felt as if any slight act of his would cause her pain. Gently, gently, he pulled the boot from her foot, muttering apologies as he did so.

He was all too eager to clear the area when Hama returned. With scissors, she cut the fabric away from the bite, clear up past Gaea's knee. Her work was quick. She cleansed the wound with redwort; numbed the area with numbweed; then bandaged and splinted the afflicted area.

With the bite taken care of, Hama checked Gaea's pulse and her temperature, offering the woman another easy smile. "I'll have to keep you here for a few hours for observation, but you should be just fine."

The skin around her eyes and mouth were tight as she kept the pain from her leg, but she didn’t want to make a sound, but her leg hurt as C’ail set her down on the bed. She helped move the pillows so she was sitting up more comfortably. Gaea watched as the healer gave orders to C’ail before she left to go get something. She clutched the blanket around her shoulders, scrunching it up around her neck. She was definitely getting chills now that she wasn’t moving.

She watched as C’ail pulled her boot off, she tried her best to move her foot so he wouldn’t have anny issues, but that slick feeling of blood in her boot made her stomach turn a little… she hadn’t had an issue with helping to treat threadscores, but the feel of her own blood against her skin upset her. With the boot off her foot felt better… even though her stocking was soaked with blood. From calf to most the way up to her toes.

Well there went his set of pants, she though watching as the healer returned and cut away the fabric. She’d have to get materials to make another pair. She hissed a little as the wound was cleansed with redwort, the deep fang punctures in her calf stung badly. Then the cool feel of numbweed made her relax against the pillows. That was much better. She pulled the blanket tighter around her shoulders as the healer checked her pulse and temperature, “Thank you.” She told the other woman. Gaea then looked at C’ail and gave a small smile, “Thank you too C’ail.”

With the relief from pain, Coruth relaxed outside of the infirmary. She settled down next to Riventh and put her head on her forepaws. Her eyes still whorled the yellow of worry as she watched the door.

"Oh, I'm just doing my job," Hama said kindly, a small smile tugging at her lips, "but you are welcome. I'm Hama, by the way. You can call for me if you need anything." And she bustled off to put away her supplies.

C'ail acknowledged the woman's gratitude and returned her smile with only a slight bow of his head. Her use of his name startled him a little; he did not remember introducing himself, but he supposed Riventh had been calling him by name when talking with the woman's grey. In turn, it occurred to him that he had never asked her what her name was.

"I'm sorry--what was your name?" he said. Then, to Riventh, she's in the infirmary. She's been seen to. The healer said she would be fine.

Riventh passed his words to Coruth. There, see? he added happily. Your rider will be all right.
