Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

How far away are they?!
It never ceases to amaze me at how little you do. The large Brown Dragon sighed with a resigned attitude as he settled himself into a particularly good patch of sun high up on the Weyrbowl – the ledge had obviously been used by a few Dragons before him as it was worn smooth and was particularly comfortable.
We’ve got a day off from duties. Lighten up will you? Ry’ck replied as he rolled his eyes, glancing up to the ledge where his handsome tank of a Dragon had settled himself for the afternoon. There was no consent or further reprimand to this comment; it seemed that Majorth had said his piece (as he always did) and was content to leave the matter there – his Rider knew his views and that was all that was necessary.

Glad that his Dragon would say no more on the subject the man entered the kitchens with a spring in his step. He truly adored Majorth but there were days when he could do without the nagging – and today was very much one of them. He was unsure if the Brown had forgotten what today was or if he was avoiding the subject altogether (not that Ry’ck would have blamed him if he was) but he knew at least, it had once marked the best time of his life – the day he had achieved his final dream and won the heart of the woman he loved… but it was now one of the worst days for him – a reminder that she was dead and gone. Wincing as this thought dared to overwhelm the man, Ry’ck pulled out his pack of cards and began to deftly shuffle them in one hand.

Grabbing himself some Klah and some food the man went into the empty Dining Hall, relishing in the quiet. It would be good to have some time alone in order to perfect some of his tricks. Sitting at a table he put down his cup and plate before spreading out his cards in front of him along with an assortment of other bits and bobs he used for his magic tricks, including Marks, pebbles and ribbons. He’d become quite good with it all, but it had taken some time. Finally he took out his juggling balls (four rather than the full ten) and began to flick them into the air with one hand in a rather lazy manner. Standing up as he continued to juggle the coloured balls he span around and caught them all in the other hand before flicking them under his leg with a grin. As a dancer he’d been useless but he had an odd sort of grace when this was involved.

Satisfied that his juggling skills had improved rather than diminished he put the balls on the table with the other six from his pocket, sipped at his Klah and began some slights of the hand with the pebbles and Marks he had brought from his Weyr – let them see if they could catch him out!

'What is that man doing?' Rhoess snorted while sharing the sight of the brownrider tossing balls up in the air. If you're so curious then go find out. Fiifth growled, barely pausing to answer her rider. 'He looks like that new rider from Basalt.. oh what is his name. Ry'ck?'

That's great Rho, you remembered his name. Now you're just distracting me. The garnet hissed. She was perched on the edge of one of the many crags of stone just off the weyrbowl. She'd been having a little bit of fun, seeing how far she could jump from one place to another and practicing judging her distances with her single eye. She knew she didn't have enough sight range to fly through the crevasses but she had little fondness of potentially scraping her hide anyway, so she'd left her rider to her own devices for the afternoon.

'Fine, go back to doing whatever it is you're trying to do.' Rho dismissed and smoothed her fingers through her hair and offered a hand out to her blue, Stoic, to coax him up onto her shoulder. The woman plopped down across from him just as a mark seemed to just vanish into thin air.

"How did you do that?" She questioned, brow furrowed and eyebrow cocked in confusion at the.. surprisingly handsome man.

Whether Rho would ever realize it or not, Fiifth paid much more attention than she thought. Truth be told, the garnet was beginning to grow bored of her little game and it was high time she took a break. Wings extended, she merely waited for a good gust of dry wind to pick her up into the air before beginning the short glide back to the rim of the weyrbowl. She couldn't say that she gave two shaffits about a new brown transfer but with Rhoess addressing his rider she might as well find out which dragon he was bonded with.

A quick scan of the bowl didn't leave her disappointed. The unfamiliar brown in was a monster in his own right, easily outweighing Fiifth in pure muscle mass. She circled high above for a few moments, getting a good and proper look at him. His hide was particularly curious, a range of browns that was flecked here and there by green. It made an interesting effect at least, well not as interesting as she thought her own coloring was.

The little garnet dropped without warning, landing daintily next to the brown and flaring her wings slightly to look larger than she actually was. I hope you don't mind sharing your spot. She didn't wait for his permission or dismissal, merely plopping down next to him with a happy little sigh.

Ry'ck was unaware of his audience, and blissfully so. He tended to like being the one catching people out rather than being CAUGHT out. As he performed his tricks, or practiced them depending on how you looked at, the man let his thoughts drift to his Dragon, trying to pick up on Majorth's mood. The Brown was intelligent, or relatively so at least but it seemed that his memory, like all Dragon's was terribly fickle. Sighing he took a bite out of a meat roll as he flicked his hand and made the Mark reappear.

He noticed the woman and smiled; well wasn't she pretty! And a handsome Blue with her too... Hmmm. Now that he had an audience he grinned; he did love showing off to people. Putting the meat roll down he held the Mark up between two fingers (clearly to show her that it was there even though he wasn't actually looking at her) before slowly moving his free hand up his wrist to his hand. As his hand moved towards the Mark he flicked it over quickly and held out both hands, palm side to Rhoess so that she could see the Mark had gone, winking at her as he did so.

Ry'ck chuckled and leant across the table towards Rhoess, reaching a hand out towards her ear. With a whisper of fingers he clicked them softly by her ear and grinned as he produced the Mark once more. "Do what?" He asked in a mockingly innocent tone as he sat back down, put the Mark on the table and sipped at his Klah.

Oh so it's not just me you're infuriating with then? Majorth asked with a snort, he could only imagine what the poor woman was thinking and feeling at that moment and he did not particularly blame her if she wanted to kill Ry'ck. The Brown was no fool, he was well aware of Fiifth's presence. In fact he had noted the stunning Garnet's movements early on, he was just too busy sunning himself to care much. He had closed his eyes just as she began to inspect him, opening one casually as she landed beside him and tried to look bigger. Please yourself. Majorth said simply, furling his wings against his back so as not to bother her. Plenty of room for us both.

"That. Make the mark disappear and reappear." Rhoess growled at the playing dumb act, and snatched up the mark from the table to examine it. There was nothing different about it, just a mark like any other. She flipped it over once more in her fingers before dropping it back on the table. "Show me how you did it." The redhead glowered and pushed the mark back towards the brownrider. She was genuinely curious but frustrated by her inability to catch where the mark went when it disappeared. Well, she'd only seen the trick once close up, she admitted to herself, still it ought to have been enough for her to figure it out.

The little garnet stretched languidly, only just realizing how tired she actually was from her little adventure. Not her wings of course, but most dragons didn't take it upon themselves to pounce around as she had been. It was enough to make her sleepy and perhaps a bit more cordial, well enough that she wasn't going to chase the brown off outright. Did you and your rider transfer in recently? Fiifth inquired, resting her head on the stone with her unscarred eye fixed on her basking partner.

Ry'ck grinned; oh he'd touched a nerve! He watched as Rhoess snatched the Mark up from where he had placed it on the table. Let her look at it, she'd never figure out what he'd done in a million Turns. He sipped at his Klah casually, if he was trying to be infuriating (which he was) then he was going the right way to annoy her. He watched as she dropped it back into place on the table and all but ordered him to show her his trick. Tutting he waggled a finger back and forth in front of his face. "A Magician never tells his secrets my dear, how else can he amaze the world if everyone knows how it is done?" He grinned.
If she punches you do not come crying to me; you'll deserve it. Majorth stated simply.
Ignoring this the man sat forward, put down his cup and entwined his fingers together as he looked at Rhoess. "Although I might be able to exchange the knowledge with you. Say... a kiss for the answer?" Ry'ck said boldly.
Oh she is so going to punch you.

Majorth turned his head to look at the Garnet. She was pretty, he'd admit that, he wasn't exactly BLIND to the attractions of females but he had the feeling that this one was particularly volatile as a creature. Yes. About a Sevenday ago. Are you from Vaioa?

Not originally. Rhoess and I are from Igen and we transferred here last summer. She flicked her tail dismissively, not particularly intent on discussing their reasons. From what she could gather, many who arrived at Vaioa didn't exactly do so for exactly wholesome reasons.

Rhoess scoffed at the brownrider's teasing, "A magician you say?" She'd heard of the term before but as far as she knew, it wasn't a common practice. Well unless he proved he had the power to send the mark between and have it return then she might actually be impressed. Until then, it was all a trick, and she hated being deceived so.

A kiss for a secret? The redhead glowered but then looked thoughtful, "Sounds fair to me. But you have to show me first." She pushed the mark towards him, a glint to her tawny eyes. Sharding ballsy fardler, obviously her pretty face was all he saw. Well, if it meant he'd be more compliant with her in the future then she'd go along with it. For now at least.

If that is indeed your rider that my Rhoess is talking with, he should be careful. She is like a tunnelsnake in the grass when she gets like this. Fiifth figured it was only right to warn him since her rider seemed so able to get herself on the wrong side of people fairly easily.

We are from High Reaches. The big Brown offered simply as he watched her. It was clear that she did not wish to discuss the whys and wherefores involved but he did not blame her; not everyone wanted their personal life pried into, he agreed with privacy whole heartedly. Her body language however said more than anything else - the reason was not a particularly pleasant one.

Ry'ck grinned at Rhoess and nodded. "Yep." He agreed. Ok so it was only a bunch of tricks rather than ACTUAL magic but that didn't make it any less magical for the kids did it? And it had brought a conversation out of this rather curt woman so his 'trivialities' (as Majorth so often referred to them) clearly worked. He watched the redheaded woman with unguarded amusement as she considered his offer and he was thoroughly surprised when she accepted it. Grinning he took the Mark as she slid it back to him, sat on the table with his legs crossed and held it out in front of her. "It's basically all slight of hand. You hold out the Mark and when you move your free hand in front of it you actually drop it into the sleeve of your shirt. Tends to help if you were long sleeves otherwise you have to get it into your other hand and flick it around your knuckles before someone spots it." He explained, showing Rhoess slowly and turning his hands to the side so that he could demonstrate dropping the Mark down his left sleeve.

I could warn him but he would not listen. Majorth sighed heavily, stretching out his colossal wings before settling them onto his back once more.

Rho's brows furrowed as he explained and showed her the trick. It was frustrating how easily she had been fooled but still the corner of her mouth twitched up in amusement. Stoic had watched the disappearance of the mark the first time and chirped when this time he saw the man drop it down his sleeve. The blue slid down his mistress' shoulder and crossed over to Ry'ck, pawing his sleeve down and sticking his nose into the fabric to search for the little piece of wood.

"Such a simple idea I'm surprised it works at all." The woman scoffed but if this one trick was like this than, she assumed, his other ones wouldn't be too different. She scooped her little blue up and pulled him back into her arms. Amused that he had the mark clutched firmly in his jaws with eyes whirring happy facets of green.

Fiifth snorted, noting the impressive size of Majorth's wingspan. Well, nobody could say she hadn't tried. Hopefully Rho's curiosity would hold out above anything and that she would end up actually keeping her part of their little deal.

Sounds like we have the same sort of problem then. It wasn't so much that her rider didn't listen as much as it was Fiifth's suggestions were usually not helpful in the least, often too angry or dismissive they would only make a situation worse.

"Show me another." Rhoess insisted after a moment of consideration.
