Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

The Good Kind of Crazy
Jessa sat and listened to what was said about etiquette, she knew a little, her mother having been the masterhealer of their collection of Holds. It had just been so boring that she hadn't much paid attention as a child. Well now she was going to learn. As interesting as that lesson does sound, Jessa dear, I would be bored into rolling in the dirt. The sarcastic tone in Kelydth's voice almost made Jessa smile. Let me guess you just had a dirt bath. They weyrling asked as she marked out each and every use and placement of the forks and other utensils.

Well it was a very nice pile of dirt, was the amused reply, and Jessa got the sense that Kely hadn't rolled in dirt but was laying out basking in the sun. She wished she was out with the garnet instead of in the dining hall learning proper etiquette. When C'nar was asked how to properly reply to a morel insult, Jessa put her boredom aside to listen.

Raisa: Tag E'ric & C'nar

Seeing one of the late arrivals slide into place next to her and nervously eye her setting put Raisa on edge; she mirrored his gulp as the Weyrlingmaster’s eyes lit on her choice. It came as a complete surprise when T’ian congratulated her on her lucky guess, which took some of the sting out of his remark that most people wouldn’t be grabbing their utensils by the business-end. The brown weyrling’s face brightened in the resultant flush of her unexpected ingenuity. You did well! I am glad. Khorinth’s warm regard was the icing on the cake, and Raisa leaned back with a little smugness in her chair while the conversation shifted to plates, and then unexpectedly to matters of composure under distress.

She hadn’t set down the salad fork, and was instead toying with the thing in her hands while her thoughts began to wander away from T’ian and his material. There was many a face ringing this table that had that tell-tale distance in their eyes. So a bunch of them were distracting themselves with their dragons…

Suddenly T’ian stopped, throwing his ominous shadow on the seat next to hers. C’nar was his next victim, and Raisa was suddenly engrossed in the what-did-he-call-it plate she’d been blatantly ignoring up until now. He was on his own, he was the one with the big ol’ bronze. I am not much smaller...

Small enough! She was strictly a fighter, not a panderer or social caller. It was practically guaranteed that C’nar would be involved in something. Khorinth wisely settled for silence. A battle best fought at a later time.

L'ey - tag Hana Cnar and Mtralt

L'ey gave Hana a sympathetic smile, knowing she was probably miserable. He couldn't help but be in good spirits though. This lesson was right up his alley. He'd never experience this level of confidence in a lesson again.

The young bluerider flinched as the big greenrider next to him slammed his fork onto the table. He nodded in response to his question and whispered, "Very good. But you should never slam anything. Always be as gentle and quiet as you can at the dinner table. Eating noisily isn't polite."

He turned his attention back to their Master, hoping he wouldn't be reprimanded for speaking out of turn. He held his breath and stared intently at C'nar as T'ian put him on the spot.

Make a firm renunciation of their claim and politely call them into question for insinuating mistruths about you. Defend yourself with a strong demeanor, but never be hostile. If their morals truly differ from yours, politely address the fact that you and they see the world differently but that you always act with nobility. If possible, have good humor. A gentle chuckle shared by the table can relieve tensions.

His gaze bored into C'nar as he willed the young man to say something similar.

He can't hear you, you know. Only I can hear you.

I know...I just don't want him to make a fool of himself.

He was rather happy to see Raisa got the right answer. Looking over to see which she'd finally picked to be sure he knew as well, before locating it before him. Stiffening as suddenly the voice sounded directed towards him. Looking up slowly to confirm T'ian was looking at him. Gulping his eyes darted about to the other weyrlings. "Uh..." On the spot his mouth felt quite dry suddenly. Scrambling to try and think of anything he'd seen previously in hold or weyr to help him, but of course his mind rebelled with blankness.

Well...Don't make him wait. Tell him an answer!
I have to have something to say and I'm coming up with nothing.
Dyath's displeasure at his inability to reply with a correct answer straight away didn't help his current situation. Straightening slightly as he realized how many eyes were on him now. "B-br..." He cleared his throat "Brush it off or um...correct them politely?" He tried not to wince at the first thing he'd managed to scrounge up. Quite ready to be corrected by their instructor.

You are already late! Don't be so careless that you hurt yourself, that will only delay you further.

The advice was practical enough, but it didn't stop D'kallo's flight across the last bit of the Weyrbowl. Late for a lesson! One they'd been told was going to be of particular importance to any that held responsibility, and that could very well include him because of Eletath. He ducked into the entrance to the Lower Caverns and dodged to one side to avoid plowing into one of the Weyrfolk. "Sorry," he gasped, rubbing where he had collided with the wall, but he had no time for more than that. With another dash, he was past the night hearth and across the threshold into the Dining Hall.

D'kallo's face was flushed as red as it could get from his run, which was probably for the best when several sets of eyes descended on him. He tried not to cringe as he made his way to an empty place, especially since the look the Weyrlingmaster was sending his way was not a friendly one.

"Sorry, sir," he offered, barely more than a whisper. "Eletath had a pebble stuck under his claw." It was not an excuse and he knew it, but he felt he should at least acknowledge his tardiness was not due to a desire to flaunt the bluerider's authority.

If it makes you feel any better, I appreciate it being gone very much. I didn't know it would be so hard to remove.

((ICA=ICC, so let him have it.))

M'tralt - Tag L'ey

"I slammed it?" The monstrous Weyrling balked bashfully at the bluerider, seemingly clueless as to his prior display of sheer strength. "My apologies. I often times forget myself. I'm sure I've thrown a couple of doors off their hinges without even trying." The greenriding Weyrling chuckled deeply as C'nar finally responded to the Weyrlingmaster's questioning, fumbling through his words as he did so. Although M'tralt was sure the bronzerider could have done better than that, the greenrider wasn't one to judge, as he wasn't sure he could have done much better himself.

T'ian clasped his hands primly behind his back, watching C'nar with a neutral expression as he waited for the weyrling to provide an answer. The anxiety in the room was now almost palpable, and he almost chuckled to himself, a twitch of his lips the only thing betraying his amusement. Nothing got students to pay attention like the possibility of being singled out. He hoped they would all be more attentive from here on out, even if he was talking about chargers and napkin rings. (Don't put them on your fingers, they're not real rings, for Faranth's sake.)

He noted that L'ey seemed very intensely active, and decided that he'd call on him next. It was always good to reward interest and productivity, after all. You couldn't simply just punish bad behavior and ignore all the good and expect a well rounded weyrling class. The green weyrling next to him, a rather large boy, was creating an unreasonable amount of racket, and T'ian fixed M'tralt with a disapproving look, cutting him a glare from the sides of his eyes, not even bothering to completely turn his body or head, still facing C'nar. "Do not slam your cup on the table. It is sloppy and rude," T'ian admonished as an aside.

C'nar's answer wasn't a wrong one, but it wasn't entirely correct either. "It is a delicate situation to be in," T'ian remarked. "You can't allow your honor, or the honor of the Weyr, to be insulted, but you also can't stoop to their level. But you are correct. Politeness is of utmost importa-"

T'ian's head whipped to look at D'kallo, and his nose wrinkled with distaste, lip curling as he managed to look both disappointed and disapproving at the same time. A dragon's hygiene was important, so it's not like he could scold the boy entirely. If it were true, of course. As it was, an example needed to be made. "Two extra days of latrine duty, D'kallo. A rider is never late to his engagements."

Returning his attention to C'nar, he gave the bronze weyrling a curt nod. He'd done well enough for the moment. Wheeling, he made his way to the other side of the table, pausing before L'ey. He favored the young man with a short-lived smile before asking, "L'ey, when greeting your hosts, does one greet the Lord or Lady holder first?"
