Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Tis the season for santa dragons
Arryn rolled her eyes in disbelief. "Sure, of course it was." She drawled, her eyes twinkling in amusement. She'd missed having some she could just relax and joke around with. It felt good to act just a little bit silly for a change.

Pretty lifted her head, watching the Blue with some confusion. Maybe he was ill to be behaving in such a manner. Falling over in such a way did not seem entirely natural, she had never done such a thing. Stretching out her neck she gave Imit a nudge with her snout.

"Probably." She said, sounding unconcerned. She was fairly certain the Weyrleaders would know exactly how many dragons the Weyr had room for. If needed a Queen could always transfer to another Weyr. She was glad that was something she never had to worry over. Perri was small, and unlike a Gold didn't require that much space. Arryn nodded in agreement. "So do I. I know it's not unusual for candidates to be injured, but I still prefer when no one is hurt." She'd saw enough pain during threadfall and didn't like seeing it during what was suppose to be a joyous occasion.

Arryn looked up, nodding once Tieal recalled her classmate. Maybe the Copperrider had some additional insights about the man, but it didn't seem very likely. "I have a feeling ti would take more than a stick for that to happen. Maybe log upside the head would work best." She said wryly. Arryn looked down at what remained of her stew, prodding at a piece of tuber with her spoon. She wasn't sure how much she was ready to reveal. What she thought of him seemed seemed to change every other mark it seemed. "Hmm he's not so bad most of the time. He's a good rider, even if he doesn't always know it." She said, letting her spoon rest against the side of her bowl. "What did you think of him back when you were Weyrlings?" She asked, looking back up at the woman.

Imit responded with a cheerful croon, stretching his legs up once more and then flopping back over. It had worked once, surely she'd be impressed again right?

Tiael nodded in agreement with Arryn's sentiment. "Although, I'm not sure I've ever seen a hatching where no one got hurt." She commented, blinking a little as she realised it. "Still, it's worth it. Eisenth scared the tar out of me when he first hatched but now?" She shrugged. "Well, I couldn't be without him."

Tiael couldn't help but laugh at Arryn's comment. "That much of a charmer huh?" She watched the Greenrider prod and poke at her stew. She was clearly bothered about him, even if she seemed reluctant to talk. Tiael sat back in her chair, opting for silence as she seemed to collect her thoughts. It wasn't a subject to be rushed, or prodded about too much it seemed. She nodded a little as she listed off his qualities, and gave her question a lot of thought, meeting Arryn's gaze evenly. "Well, he worked hard to become a rider, but he wasn't someone I was ever overly social with." She scratched her head thoughtfully for a moment before shrugging slightly. "It's not much help I know, but I never had any bad run-ins with him."

A thought struck her, but the question that would have followed would probably have meant Arryn would close up like a clam. Instead of letting it spill, she took a deep breath and smiled. "You'll figure it out I'm sure. Be it the log or, some other solution. If you need an ear though, you know where I.......well I've got a new weyr now but Eisenth can always lend a hand to find me."

Pulling over her drink, she drained the last of it and then tucked into the rest of her food. Chewing slowly, she was in no rush to be up and off. When Thread loomed again they'd barely have time to stop, so she was not about to miss out on a chance to stop and socialise with a friend. "So have I missed anything particularly substantial while I've been away?" She queried, also keen to get caught up on Vaioa itself as well as her friend.

Something had to be wrong with the Blue. Surely such behavior was not natural. Seeing it as her duty to help him Pretty reach out and bit his tail. Not hard, but enough to pinch. Maybe that would help sort him out.

Arryn tipped her head to the side in thought. "I don't think I have either. Though it is a bit overwhelming when you are out there. Not to difficult to loose track of what the hatchlings are all doing." She laughed softly, shooting the other woman a cheeky grin. "Yeah I wasn't sure if Peri was going to impress or maul me at first. Considering that Indith was her mother both were quite possible." The Garnet had possessed quite a vibrant personality, but she had produced a strong clutch for Vaioa.

She gave Tiael a rueful look, "You have no idea." She dug her spoon back into her stew, not really hungry, but it provided a distraction. She listened as Tiael spoke, nodding briefly. It was just about what she'd expected to hear. Besides his dragon and his dog she didn't think the man was social with anyone. Shards she was probably provided the majority of his human interactions.

Arryn gave the other woman a grateful smile. "Thanks. you're probably right. Though it is nice to have someone else to bounce stuff off of." She felt better just knowing there was someone she trusted to talk with. Perdoth was wonderful and understood her better than anyone, but the Green's advice didn't always make sense. Well if probably would make sense if K'mor was a dragon.

Arryn's eyes narrowed in thought, considering what had happened since her friend's transfer. "Hmm well I heard there has been some bandit trouble of some sort, but the wher troop is sorting that out. Other than that is has been pretty quiet. Well up until Oceth's flight at least." She grinned. A future hatcing always set the Weyr a buzz, but in a good way.

Imit heard a shuffling and Tiael could feel a small cloud of pride puff in him....until his tail was bitten. He squawked abruptly, flipping over and trying to inspect his tail. The Blue became intent on catching the part that hurt, circling round and round enough to make Tiael dizzy. Inwardly she groaned, did she have to have a firelizard that was several glows short of a full basket??

Tiael agreed wholeheartedly with Arryn's statement, hatchings were a tricky business for even the most experienced Candidates. It was no wonder, with so many first timers on the sands that chaos often ensued. She chuckled at Arryn's comment, trying to imagine Perdoth mauling anything or anyone, it just didn't seem to fit. "Oof, now there was an angry clutch mother." Tiael said, suppressing a shudder at the thought of the irate Garnet. "They're certainly unpredictable when they first hatch. Suffice to say I'm glad both of ours saw fit to let us both off the hook."

Tiael bit back her further prodding, despite her curiosity being peaked. She couldn't work out if her friend was happy with his company, or trying to find a way to seriously avoid it. It was a tad too risky to assume one or other, so for now she settled for listening and offering her meagre opinion. Chuckling, she bowed slightly across the table. "I'm honoured to be of help." A smirk lit her features. "Bounce whatever you need to off me."

Before her comments could get the better of her, Arryn thankfully stepped in and provided some grounding to the conversation. Listening to the major Weyr events, she nodded thoughtfully. "Well, I'm glad that things have been relatively calm, all things considered. Though those bandits sound a might unpleasant. I hope no one has been seriously hurt. I suppose now it's just waiting for those eggs to pop, figuratively speaking of course." A soft smile crawled over her features, yup, dragon clutches were good for the spirits indeed. She sighed softly. "I'm just glad I'm no longer freezing my tailfork off up north. Nice enough people, but I think I'll stick to our warmer temperatures."

Pretty tipped her head, watching the Blue's circling. Honestly it had just been a little pinch. She bumped the silly Blue with her snout. His antics were making it impossible for her to nap at all.

Arryn quickly agreed, "I'm glad Peri didn't get her temperament. At least not all of it." She said rolling her eyes a bit. Sometimes the Green could be impossible, but she wasn't a mean spirited creatures. "Now we can just watch from the safety of the stands. Though if a hatchlings decides they want someone not on the sands that isn't always that much safer." No two hatchings were every alike or boring. She was certain Oceth's would be just as memorable as the rest.

Arryn ran a finger around the rim of her mug, shooting her friend a grateful smile. "Thanks. I'll be sure to do that." Asking for help would be easier once she decided if and what she needed help with. The whole situation with K'mor was still rather muddled. Somethings would probably take the two of them to figure out. Arryn wasn't in a terrible rush for that to happen.

"I can't imagine the Wher troops having too much trouble. I think they have a good number of them now." Her knowledge of the troops was rather limited. Whers were obviously quite useful for protecting the Mine and Hold, but they did put her just a bit on edge. Arryn chuckled at the woman's comments. "I'm going to remind you of that when are complaining about sweating so much during drills." She shot back, her tone teasing. "I suppose I'd rather be hot than cold. Going between isn't so bad when you are hot." She pointed out. "What sort of wing did thy have you in?" She asked, curious about her friend's experience up North.

Imit didn't manage to catch his own rear end, instead he stopped when he was bumped with a snout. Tilting his head, he sank awkwardly down onto the table, and folded his legs underneath him.

Tiael could only agree with Arryn, while Peri's mother was certainly a dragon to respect Tiael also didn't fancy the headaches that were sure to come with being paired to such a dragon. Tiael hadn't given much thought to hatchlings in the stands, it was so very rare. "Well, we wont be bored that's for sure." She chuckled.

Tiael smiled widely, nodding firmly as Arryn assented to bringing her thoughts and more puzzling problems to her. The familiarity of their friendship was welcome after being alone. Well, she was at a Weyr of course, but it wasn't the same. She was surprised initially, to find out just how much she missed Vaioa.

"I rarely saw any while I was away, a bit hard to imagine a large number of them being organised. Maybe I'll have to head to the Hold one day and have a look." She rarely gave the flightless beasts or their handlers much thought. They were not her favourite creatures at the best of times. Tiael could only laugh at Arryn's threat, shaking her head. "When you've watched ice form in your own weyr, you welcome any and all heat." Betweening in the height of summer was just as good as stepping into a freezing pool of water. It woke your right up and helped you feel a lot less suffocated by the air. "Yup, I think I'm much the same." She mused.

Arryn's question made her shrug a little, but she didn't want to seem rude or disinterested in talking so hurriedly carried on. "It felt, mostly the same. They had us run drills as we would over winter. It was a bit odd though. Different position and we were a lot lower than we're used to. Mid-altitude so there were some things to be aware of that we didn't have to worry about before. Their formations are much the same, but their Wings don't feel as...tight." Tiael struggled to explain it. "Maybe I've lucked out with my Wing here, but there seemed a fair bit of bickering going on and a fair amount of unease. I'm not sure if they're due for a senior Flight soon, I know they had a Wingleader shift just prior to my arrival, Vaioa just seems to click more." Tiael shrugged again then chuckled. "They also don't like to mince their words up there. If someone's annoyed, you're going to know it. Plus, as I say, you can grow your own ice in your weyr over winter. I've had more klah than I care to mention and eaten enough stew to last a life time. Still, I feel....better for it. I have a bit more perspective now and I appreciate some of the things here that I didn't even realise before." Worried she'd babbled and bored the greenrider, Tiael shut her mouth and ducked behind her mug a little. "Do you ever get the urge to travel?" She asked quietly, flicking her gaze up with a flicker of apprehension at her own question.
