Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Tis the season for santa dragons
Midday was always a busy time for the Weyr's dining hall as nearly everyone passed through to enjoy what the kitchen staff had prepared for lunch. Stews and warming soups were popular during the cooler winter months. With thread not yet a threat the atmosphere was relaxed. A touch of excitement was present, mostly within the groups of candidates. Oceth's eggs were hardening upon the sands and drawing closer each day to what was sure to be a spectacular hatching. Even seasoned riders were not immune to the anticipation of the soon to be new pairs that would eventually join their ranks. Fond memories of their own impressions were eagerly shared and compared.

Arryn relished her bowl of thick and hearty stew. Thread would be returning soon and drills had taken on a new intensity. By noon she had worked up quite an appetite after she and Peri had been put through their paces. She was glad for the impending hatching to help distract her from thread's return. It also helped keep her thoughts away from a certain bronzerider. Her green flitt peered down from her shoulder, interrupting the woman's thoughts with a hopeful croon. "You eat anymore Pretty and you will probably pop." She scolded gently, poking the green's bugling middle. Her flitt was amusing if almost entirely useless at any other task Arryn tried to get her to do.

"I don't know, I hear they can waddle about with twice their normal belly's worth of food inside them." A familiar voice chipped in. Tiael was peering thoughtfully at the pair, a fleeting moment of apprehension over approaching Arryn at all squashed down into her stomach. She couldn't well hide in her weyr all the time. "Possibly best not to experiment though." She added after a brief ponder.

In her hands, she held a small tray with bowl of stew, sweet roll, a cup of water and spoon. It was lunch time all round it seemed. Tiael bit her lip for a moment, earning a curious croon and Imit to press his snout against her chin, eyeing his bonded carefully. Tiael rolled her eyes and rolled her shoulders causing the blue firelizard to squawk and wriggle back into place on her shoulder, wings spread precariously. Clearing her throat, she watched Arryn for a moment before deciding to press on.

"Is that a spare seat?" She asked hopefully, giving her an easy out if she really wanted to. Inside, she was hoping the greenrider wouldn't mind her company. She missed her friend and while their paths seemed to drift a fair bit, they had always managed to make some time to catch up in the past. Hopefully this time wouldn't be any different.

The voice that answered her jest was familiar. It stirred up the feeling that she should know without even looking who the source of it was. As she shifted to see just who had spoken her overfed flitt squawked in protest. Arryn winced, sliding a hand over her ears. "Shards Pretty hush!" She exclaimed, scooping her Green up and setting her down on the table. She gave Pretty a dissapproving stare, which was completely ignored. Pretty burbled a little in protest, folding her wings and curling up to snooze off her meal on the more stable surface.

Arryn rolled her eye in defeat. Maybe Peri could teach the Green some better manners, she had wanted the flitt in the first place. Still massaging her ear she finally focused on her company, eye going wide in surprise as she did so. "Tiael! Faranth what are you doing here? When did you get back?" She scrambled to her feet. She'd been about to hug the woman, but the tray of food and drink halted her intended actions. "And of course you can sit with me you wherry. I'd be rather hurt if you didn't." Arryn didn't miss that her longtime friend seemed a little unsure. Tiael's departure from Vaioa had been rather sudden, and unexpected. She didn't think a desire to learn more about how Weyr's operated was the only reason for her friend leaving. She'd felt a little hurt that the woman hadn't confided in her before transferring. She was too overjoyed to worry about reasons, they'd come to light with time. She hoped.

Tiael chuckled at Arryn's exclamation, watching her firelizard settle on the table having made sure everyone within earshot was clear about her displeasure. They were funny creatures. As the greenrider rounded on her, Tiael felt her apprehension uncurling from her stomach. Her face held a wider smile, laughing as she put down her tray. Hearing her chide at even the implication she should sit elsewhere, Tiael smirked slightly and then bundled the rider into a bear hug.

"Well that's a relief, now I don't have to sit at the table next you you and stare like some crazy stalker." She said, finally releasing her from the rib-crushing hug and stepping back to look at her appriasingly. "You are looking as good as ever I see. Being a rider definitely suits you." She said, slipping back into her familiar compliments. Nodding approvingly, she slid into the free chair and took a sip of her drink.

Imit scuttled from her shoulder, side-stepping towards the curled up green and eyeing her curiously. "Don't be a pest." Tiael chided, poking his leg gently. Imit shook his leg furiously, but otherwise ignored her. Instead he slunk closer, and then carefully arranged his limbs like Pretty and swelled into a proud looking ball of firelizard. Tiael sighed and rolled her eyes. "To answer your question, I got back not long ago. I transferred back. It wasn't ever going to be a permanent thing." She said, though she winced a little. "True it went on for a bit longer than intended but, there's not much I can do about that now." She said with a shrug, focusing a little too hard on her food for a moment. "What about you? What have you been up to?" She asked, having engulfed a large spoonful of stew.

Arryn laughed, hugging her friend fiercely. She missed having the Copperrider around. Releasing the woman she plopped back down into her seat, still grinning. "I do try do ya know. Got to set an example for those Copperriders. You don't look so bad yourself." She shot back, popping a spoonful of stew into her mouth as Tiael took a seat.

"Pretty thinks everyone is a pest most of the time, including me." The youngwoman said, rolling her eyes. Aware that she was no longer alone, the green lifted her head. She watched the Blue with a cool yet also curious expression. Well at least he hadn't pounced on her like some had tried in the past. Resting her head back down on the table she offered a friendly chirp. Arryn nodding understandingly as Tiael explained. She'd been a little worried her friend's transfer to the north had become permanent. Now that her friend was back she hoped it stayed that way. Noting the woman wasn't yet all that comfortable on the topic Arryn didn't try to press the matter once the conversation swung back to her. "Hmmm well fighting thread, though it's been mainly drills for the past few months. Oh and Oceth's first clutch is due to hatch soon." She trailed off, considering the whole thing with K'mor, but she wasn't quite sure how to broach that subject or even if she wanted to. "How's the handsome Eisenth doing? I bet he left behind a bunch of brokenhearted lady dragons." She teased with a playful wink.

Tiael chuckled, inclining her head slightly at the compliment. Trust the Greenrider to give as good as she got. Still, it was that confidence that had helped Tiael grow comfortable with her, even back in candidacy. She wasn't put off by Taiel's personality, but nor was she what Tiael would call a 'typical target of interest'. The Greenrider was confident and tended to keep her just a little off balance. Not to mention she always seemed to have time to sit and chat. It had been pleasant to find on arriving at Vaioa and had meant that they'd established what Tiael at least would term a lasting frienship. "I expect you're getting a fair bit of interest, if this is how you've been spending your days. What with Perdoth being so grown up now too." She teased lightly, grinning.

Imit peered curiously at the green on the table, rolling his head slightly to the side and returning the chirp. "Well at least he's being calm, it seems to be helping." Tiael commented lightly, watching as Imit lifted his head and chirped again.

As they began to talk about Annyn's activities, the rider shifted her gaze away and listened. Her eyes grew wide as Arryn mentioned Oceth's clutch. "A-Already?" She stammered, then sat back in her chair, peering round the hall. "Time really has flown by. How many did she clutch in total?" She asked, trying to wrap her head round that news. She remembered her when she was no more than a small gangly thing, now here she was, first clutch on the sands. "More to the point, who caught her?"

The query about Eisenth caught her slightly off-guard. "Ah, not that many." Tiael said, rubbing the back of her neck for a moment. Clearing her throat, she tucked back into the stew, thoughtful. "He's had a few chases, one catch." She said simply. "What about Perdoth? Has she found a special leathery someone?"

Arryn rolled her eyes at the woman's comment. "Oh sure. I've taken to beating them off with a stick now." She said grinning at the other woman. The only one she wanted to beat with a stick was K'mor and that was more trying to beat some sense into him. Or maybe she should try using it on herself instead.

Pretty watched the Blue. She was curious, but not abut to move without good reason. She chirped, a sort of well what do you want? sound. He stomach was far to full for much activity beyond a long nap.

Arryn laughed at Tiael's surprise. "Yup. She had eighteen eggs. No Queen eggs, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least one Garnet." She answered. A clutch always put nearly everyone in the Weyr in a good mood. It seemed impossible that anyone could be unaffected by the thought of baby dragons. Arryn frowned thoughtfully. "Ahh she was caught by a Bronze. Umm Krejuth. I thought it was going to be a Copper she is usually with, but that's Queens for ya."

Arryn was kinda glad her friend was a little uneasy around the topic of flights. She'd still hadn't mastered the casual indifference some rider's seemed to posses about the event. She took a sip of klah, shrugging a slightly as she swallowed. "Well there is a Bronze she's sunned with a few times. But she's friendly with most of the dragons she meets." She rubbed her fingers against a rough spot on the table. Talking about Rileth was pretty close to the topic of K'mor. "I don't really mid if Peri likes him, but well his rider can be a bit of an ass." Arryn said, forcing a laugh.

Tiael ignored the eye roll and merely nodded in a smug and satisfied expression. Completely ignoring the sarcasm that went along with it too. "Just make sure you don't poke them in the eye, they whine a lot more if you do." She said, trying to sound serious.

Imit, not usually the one for independent thought in these situations, surprised Tiael by wriggling round and rolling himself onto his back and kicking his legs in the air. He peered sidelong at the Green, and bugled in what Tiael could only imagine was an attempt to sound impressive. Tiael scratched her forehead and wrinkled her features as she watched. "If you annoy her, I'm not saving you." She muttered quietly.

As eggs and Oceth hit the discussion table, Tiael listened. Eighteen eggs on a first clutch, someone had been a busy little baby maker. "I'm not sure where we'd fit another Queen." Tiael mused thoughtfully, already wondering what would be in the shells. Maybe it was the rider in her, scratch that, she knew it was the rider in her but she always spent time wondering what was in each egg now when there were shells on the sands. Tiael tried to place Krejuth in her head and failed completely. She'd have to get Eisenth to point him out to her when they were next out. "Dragons are often surprising." She commented, wonder quite what that had meant for their riders, if that was even an issue. "At least the clutch is healthy from the sounds of it."

It was nice, to broach the topic of Flights in a more dragon-orientated approach. Tiael found it much, much easier to talk about it from their perspectives, than her own. "I suppose it keeps her options open." Tiael mused, sipping her drink for a moment. "Which Bronze has she taken a bit more of a liking to?" Tiael asked, keeping her tone light. Hearing Arryn's comment, Tiael laughed, she wasn't sure she'd heard Arryn really insult anyone. Watching the Greenrider though, she knitted her eyebrows after a moment. Something, wasn't quite right. Tiael debated prying, but wondered if now was an appropriate time. Possibly not, they were enjoying lunch and Arryn had been kind enough not to lecture her about running off. Instead, she settled her features into a serious, deadpan expression. "Have you considered using the stick? They can be used in more than one type of situation you know....Unless he's being too forward in which case the stick is entirely appropriate." She watched the Greenrider, fighting to keep her features serious and failing miserably. She vowed not to laugh however, unless the Greenrider broke and did so first.

"I'll try to remember that." She chuckled. "I'm guessing you know from personal experience hmmm..." She teased the woman.

Pretty watched the display. Lifting her head at his bugle she give him one big yawn before curling back up. "He's a brave little guy." Arryn commented, reaching out to give her Green a gentle prod. "You should be nicer to suitor Pretty." The flitt made a noncommittal warble, flicking a glance at the Blue.

Arryn took a mouthful of stew, shrugging slightly at Tieal's comments. "Well I suppose they'd find room if there was another one." She wasn't sure how many Queens the Weyr could support. It wasn't really something she ever worried about. Those sorts of decisions were what the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader were for after all. "Yup as far as anyone can tell all the eggs seem in tip top shape. Though we'll have to wait until the hatching to know for sure." Duds were not uncommon, though fortunately they didn't seem to occur to often at Vaioa. Maybe due in part to their mostly younger Queens.

She nodded thoughtfully, "I suppose she might be." Peris showed a bit more interest in Rileth than any other male in the Weyr. She'd never broached the subject with the Green though. "Oh um Rileth. I think he was from your class." She said casually, sipping her klah. She was fairly certain Tiael would recall someone from her Weyrling class. Arryn was tempted to pick the woman's brain a bit about K'mor. She have spent a bit of time with him in classes and since they lived in the same barracks. Arryn looked up at the woman, staring for a moment before she burst out laughing. "Jays remind me not to come to you for relationship advise." She stammer out, pausing to wipe her eyes. "He's not always an ass. He just manages to be one at exactly the wrong moment most of the time."

Tiael wrinkled her nose at Arryn's implication, then pursed her lips thoughtfully. "Only once, and it was by accident believe it or not."

Imit wriggled his way over the table at the green's interest. Apparently he didn't care if it was forced or not. He chirped to her, stretching his legs straight up, then flopping to the side dramatically. Tiael bit back a laugh. "Not, quite how people go about it." The copperrider commented to her firelizard. He was a bit of an odd one.

"True, I guess they just, build more." Tiael commented, briefly wondering what that would mean in terms of food though. Vaioa had been short before on food at it wasn't pretty. Thankfully though, that didn't seem to be a concern for the upcoming clutch. Tiael nodded cheerfully, wondering herself just what the hatching would have in store. "Hopefully it will be a fairly peaceful hatching." Though, Tiael knew that often wasn't the case, she could still hope.

As Arryn expanded slightly on Perdoth's interests, Tiael leaned over the table a little. "Rileth, Rileth...Oh! K'mor's bronze. Yup." Tiael said, nodding encouragingly as Arryn exlpained a little more. She seemed hesitant, but at least Tiael realised with a triumphant grin, she hadn't lost her sense of humour about it all. Puffing out her own laughter, she shrugged. "Hey, it seems like sound advice to me." She commented. "He might learn when not to be a pain in the tailfork." Tiael let the laughter bubble away, sipping her drink and then peering at Arryn over the top of the cup curiously. "So, with Perdoth being friendly, I'm assuming you've had to spend some time with him too. Besides his ass-ish moments, what do you make of him?" She asked, throwing her earlier hesitations out the window. She doubted the Greenrider would let her get away from the discussion without some prodding, but she was curious. One thing Tiael had always lacked, was much self control.
