Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

W'ren didn't know S'dax very well, he'd never shared a wing with the bronzerider and hadn't had the pleasure of interacting with him, but it seemed like he'd settled in alright to his unexpected raise to Weyrleadership. It was strange though, he hadn't seen much at all of him. T'ech and O'zen had been seemingly everywhere, buzzing about with their noses deep in the affairs of the Weyr and filling Vaioa with their presence. S'dax seemed oddly distant.

Still, he addressed the gathered Feldspar weyrlings with gusto. His enthusiasm lifted the spirits of the nervous weyrlings and brought a smirk to the greenrider's face. Even if they were down a few people due to transfers, this was a momentous occasion. Thread had returned and Vaioa needed every last rider it could get. The addition of a copper, a brown, two grays, a blue, and a green to their wings would greatly improve their chances next Threadfall.

There was a scattering of applause and cheering as S'dax stepped away from the head of the banquet table that had been set up for the occasion. W'ren stepped forward then to speak, feeling far more confident than he had been when this had all started. "Congratulations, riders! When I read your name off, please come up and turn in your weyrling knots and accept your new ones. Wing assignments will be announced shortly."

It was such a small list, probably best for his first event of this nature. W'ren beamed at the pride and joy shining in the faces of the graduating weyrlings as he passed out each new rank knot. "Congratulations again and please feel free to enjoy the banquet in your honor."

It had been a small clutch, and his part in it had not taken much effort besides the actual flight, but that did not diminish Rhaeth’s pride in knowing that Feldspar would graduate today. Seven healthy dragons, strong able additions to the wings. They would be Izaxth’s only and they were an excellent bunch. The large copper watched the weyrlings enter the lower caverns from a nearby ledge. He made his presence known hide of embers gleaming as he preened. None could look down on him for his pride today and he wanted to congratulate each of the newly recognized dragons. Would watch as weyrlings exited as riders. Perhaps today’s festivities could make Tyr’velas just a bit happier as well. Rhaeth worried over his rider. Rin’s departure had not been easy on his bonded, but Rhaeth would see him through it. And Auri didn’t hurt either. Today however the new riders and their dragon’s had the copper’s full attention.

Tyr’velas had seen his dragon strutting about on the ledge like some garnet brooding over her eggs. Though perhaps a bit more proud and less defensive. His memories of that flight and what followed were not as sweet as his coppers. That punch nearly knocked his teeth loose. The embarrassment had burned for much longer. Not a good way to be known around your new weyr. Eighteen months he’d been here at Vaioa then. Felt like it had been longer. He sniffed; well at least none could doubt his dragon after such a victorious flight. Even if they might doubt their wingthird. A singing chirp sounded near his head. Auri had been exploring but she never left his shoulder for long. Her cheerful thoughts and warm warble at seeing him cheering the stoic rider. Best not think on depressing things, today was for Feldspar. The least he could do was be here for their graduation.

Sitting at a table to himself and a bit off to the side he nursed a glass of wine. The young gold firelizard zooming over and crashing onto the table before him. Tyr was used to such clumsy landings and lifted his glass out of her destructive path without looking her way. When she finally did come to a stop and hopped over to him he did extend a hand to her, gently scratching her head. More warmth in his eyes than many might think capable as he looked towards the firelizard. She purred at his attention and sat down on the table just in front of him, tiny head tilted curiously at those gathering near the front of the room. The firelizard could feel the excitement in the room and all the lovely feelings made her quite happy. Even her bonded seemed less dour than normal.

Odd though. Tyr thought that S’dax was not performing the ceremony. Perhaps some slight to Bryn or himself then? No. It could just be negligence. Had Rhaeth won that flight you would not see some newly made weyrling master taking lead in such an important ceremony. But no matter, perhaps this was how S’dax dealt with things. Made those that worked for him feel good or something. This W’ren seemed joyed to be taking part after all. So Tyr’velas watched the ceremony, clapping when needed, Auri chipping in with joyous bugling, and drinking more wine than he normally might. A good day though. The weyrlings looked strong and capable, he had no complaints.

How far away are they?!
Kess/Tynoth: Tag K'triz & Rhaeth

They were full grown Riders; they were actually graduating. Where had the time gone? Kess couldn't really believe that they were graduating; she could still remember Impressing Tynoth as though it had only happened yesterday but now her Blue was fully grown and ready to take on Thread along with the others. The tiny young woman was a bundle of nerves and excitement as she sat and listened to the Weyrleader's speech; her fingers ran lightly down Teal's back as she sat and tried to calm her racing heart. She was thankful of the Fire Lizard's presence beside her; without Tynoth there (though chances were he would have been bouncing around the room) she needed his calming presence to ground her. The Blue had wrapped his dainty tail about her wrist and was eyeing everyone with suspicion - waiting for someone to make a move to hurt him.

As W'ren stood up and began to call out names Kess clapped one hand against her leg to congratulate her fellow Weyrlings, when her own name was called she forced herself to take a deep breath. This was it. Go KessMine! Go go go! We're big Riders now yes yes! Tynoth said enthusiastically in her mind, humming at her from the ledge he was sunning himself on. He had wanted to come, he didn't see why the Dragons couldn't be there too - after all THEY were graduating as well weren't they? Why couldn't the ceremony have been outside where they could have joined in? Boosted by his voice she picked up Teal, put him upon her shoulder and strode up the tables to W'ren, bowing as she took the knot from him. "Thank you." She whispered softly.
Yes yes! Thank you thank you! Tynoth announced to basically the entire Weyr. The neon coloured Blue spotted his glowing father and bugled to him. Lookee lookee! We're full Riders now! Tynoth announced to Rhaeth proudly - as if the Copper did not already know this.

Blushing slightly Kess returned to her seat, stroking Teal's head as she grinned at her Fire Lizard. She had tied her hair back out of her face and worn her best dress; in fact the girl looked very different from when in her Riding gear... she looked positively stunning. Her oddly coloured eyes looked out over the Hall and she spotted the one she had been looking for, in fact her get up was partially for him - Kess wanted K'triz to see her, she wanted him to have eyes ONLY for her...

Rayna: Tag Tyr'velas

The Headwoman had worked hard in order to have the Hall in perfect condition for today's graduation - after all Feldspar deserved it. She watched the Weyrlings as they collected their knots and clapped in the appropriate moments. At least S'dax had carried himself appropriately, though maybe he should have handed the knots out himself - that said she commended W'ren for the job, he was doing particularly well as Weyrlingmaster and she believed that he deserved this moment of glory.

Her sharp eyes spotted the Copperrider whose Dragon had sired the Clutch in question; his attitude had changed of late (a fact that had not gone unnoticed by the woman, not that much ever did). She took a skin of Benden's finest that she always kept back for those most deserving and made her way to sit beside the man, she got him a clean cup, filled it from the skin and pushed it in front of him, removing the other and putting it out of reach. "If you're going to drink away your sorrows at least drink something WORTH drinking." The woman snorted, stroking Shard It All's head as the Green settled more comfortably upon her shoulder. "And before you say anything that might be considered a lie Tyr'velas we both know it's a sorrow of a sort." She said darkly, raising an eyebrow as she looked at him, daring him to say he was not mourning the sudden disappearance of the Garnetrider. "Be proud today, your Dragon is and so should you be. They're a fine group."

Gale - tag N'iro

Gale flexed her hands and tapped her heel, feeling excited and nervous all at once. She had looked forward to walking the tables ever since she'd been a little girl - this ceremony was about as close as she'd get to doing it. But the duty of fighting thread loomed in the back of her mind, keeping her mood from being truly euphoric. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to calm the great tangle of emotions twisting about inside her.

S'dax's speech was inspiring, at least. It calmed her nerves a bit to be reminded just how much support was behind her - from her fellow riders as well as the weyrfolk. When W'ren called her name, she stepped forward briskly, with her head held high and a light smile on her face. Her hands shook just a little as she exchanged knots, and she hastily clamped them down on her new knots to still them. She let out another slow sigh as she moved off to join the classmates that had been called before her.

When the graduation ceremony was completed, she turned to her greyrider friend, still a bit shaky with nerves. "So, are you going to stay for the party? We probably should, but I'm not sure...relaxing in the sun sounds a bit more attractive right now."

K'rin:

Finally!

K'rin paid absolutely new mind to the new Weyrlingmaster he hadn't met yet. It didn't matter because if he wished it, he never had to interact with any of the masters ever again. It wasn't that he disliked them, but more than a turn and a half of being ordered around by them put quite a damper in any positive feelings he might have towards them. All his attention was on the knots of rank W'ren clutched in his hand.

Are you happy now?

Belianth stretched out in the sun with a loud, happy thrum. K'rin had washed and oiled him for the occasion - never mind the fact that he couldn't physically attend - and in the sun, the copper dragon was practically blinding. One by one his eyelids slid shut, until he seemed to melt into the hot clay of the weyrbowl as he basked. You're not worried about Thread?

Not at all! K'rin stepped forward proudly, a cocky grin on his face to accept his new shoulderknots. Ree bobbed her head curiously and sniffed at them as he secured them to his riding jacket and gave the Weyrleader and Weyrlingmaster a jaunty salute. He felt happier than he had been since Impressing Belianth and quite ready to take on an entire threadfall all by himself if he had to.

N'iro - Tag Gale:

N'iro'd never really considered himself a nervy person, but when he accepted his new knots from W'ren, his hands were trembling so hard he could barely hold them. Cliff perched proudly on one shoulder, Rikku on the other, and...lord only knew where Moriarty was. Probably pestering someone in the crowd. The grayrider felt embarassed that his fire lizards were obviously more composed than he was. Handing over his weyrling knots felt like leaving his younger self behind. They were no longer children, they were full members of Vaioa's fighting wings.

And it's about bloody time, Fiadelth mumbled. She tucked her head under a wing and pointedly ignored Tynoth, who was making way too much noise for her to grace him with her presence. Now that she wouldn't be forced into the company of her classmates anymore, she could associate with dragons that weren't nearly as graceless.

N'iro ducked his head and smiled nervously at Gale, uncharacteristically bashful under the gazes of so many weyrfolk. "I...you know I think I should stay and have a glass of wine, but then I'd like to leave. Taking a nice sunbath sounds amazing right now." And it might take his mind off of the fact that the next time the wings rose to fight Thread, so would he and his precious Fiadelth.

Bryn shifted in her seat, resisting the urge to prop her chin up on her fist. Her own weyrling graduation (Turns ago, now, how quickly time had flown!) had been rather exciting. She remembered the sensation of having her heart in her throat, swelled fit to burst with pride. Being on the watching end, though, was rather boring.

Why'd you have to go and poop out these things anyway. I could be sleeping now, or causing a ruckus off elsewhere.

Izaxth's amusement colored her mind. You didn't have to go. But, you are Mine. You bring them pride by being there.

Bryn 'hmmm'd, lips twitching into a grin when the pretty little greenrider said her oath. Are you proud of them, then? They're your brats. Your only ones. You don't exactly get to try again so I hope they ain't deadglows.

I am proud of all the dragons in the Weyr. Izaxth asserted, and Bryn snickered to herself. The big garnet played favorites, even if she wouldn't admit it.

Oh, it's that little harper git's turn. 'Member when he got into a contest with me to see who could think up the most ways to tell someone to fardles off?

Izaxth was woozy on the details, but perhaps that was because there had been a lot of wine involved on Bryn's part.

R'jin was indeed next in line, grinning like a fool as he waited for W'ren to acknowledge him. He'd practiced his lines, and now, he recited them with aplomb, accepting his knots with a small flourishing bow.

We are grown now, Aqueath crooned with glee, her delight bubbling over into R'jin's until they were both giddy with it. The whole world is our palace, darling!

T'lan : Tag Gale and N'iro

He felt a little bit guilty. Feldspar's graduation had arrived and he hadn't done the greatest job of keeping in contact with Gale or N'iro. He hadn't though impressing at different clutches would put them on such different schedules, but it had. Tiath had consumed nearly his every waking moment her first few months, not that he minded that at all. It did make maintaining any sort of social activity almost impossible. Once she had matured to where he did have more than a couple free moments Feldspar was off in their own Weyrs and preparing for life as full riders.

Wanting to make some sort of amends T'lan had ensured he'd be able to attend the graduation. He joined the crowd of onlookers, easily picking out the Green and Gray riders. It was a small group, but they would all be welcomed additions to the Wings. He joined in the applause as each one received there knots. One day soon he would be receiving his own, long coveted knots.

T'lan eyed the skins of wine with a little regret, choosing a glass of fruit juice instead. Glass in hand he set off in search of Gale and N'iro. He was pleased to find the two together, and approached with a slightly tentative grin. "Congratulations you two! Hope you won't mind associating with a Weyrling now that's your full riders."

WTF AM I DOING
He'd been a young man who tended to livestock and carved everyday things out of stone in his spare time, who had looked with equal parts wonder and jealousy to the dragonriders as they flew above him while he bathed and fed the herdbeasts.
He remembered his chores at home, how he had started and ended each of his days then. Scratching through hay with a rake, humming to himself to break the silence. Cleaning troughs and pens, wrestling the sick animals to apply remedies. That life held little reward beyond a place to sleep and a pat on the back, but it gave him the solid physique and relaxed nature he had to today.
He didn't ever think his dreams of being a dragonrider could be chased. He wouldn't be searched, certainly not this easily forgotten son of a large family. There were days he assumed this was all something he'd wake up from one day in bed back at Keroon, bottles scattered around his bed to tell his waking mind this was why he slept so deeply.
He had sent news that he was to graduate soon, but there had been no return message. No congratulations, no visits. B'usc wasn't surprised, and he wasn't too hurt. It was something expected, and something he shrugged off. So they chose to distance himself, and that was fine. They were welcome to that. He couldn't really say he was all that sociable anymore, himself.
B'usc was proud of the other Feldspar members, smiling broadly at each of them as they accepted their new knots. Still, it wasn't a happiness that quite filled him as it used to. He had been waiting impatiently for this day since Taiuth's hatching, and he thought when this day had come he'd be leaping for joy for his fellow graduating Feldspar. Hollering, embracing people as was to be expected of B'usc as people knew him.
Recent events had made him into a more subdued person, and one stranger at a glance might think that it made him into a more mature being. A closer friend could say they knew otherwise.
To B'usc, well...he had learned not to get too excited about anything. There was an absence on either side of B'usc and Taiuth they both could feel, and in silence they mourned it. The empty spot was a more glaring thing to B'usc than his dragon, and he did find himself envying how Taiuth would one day just...forget.
They waited their turn, for B'usc's name to be called, and they appeared to do so in respectful quiet.
Taiuth was instead keeping B'usc's mind busy with thoughts of pride, tickling his brain with anticipation. Taiuth abandoned thoughts of his tutelage under Tonouth just for a moment to send B'usc dreamed images of the pair of them fighting Thread together. Something B'usc could be proud of, and Taiuth knew that. Taiuth knew his rider needed to feel that right now. The idea did have B'usc take in a deep breath, and it pulled at the corners of B'usc's mouth. He did in fact break out into a bashful smile.

He turned around and pulled away from his thoughts to look into his dragon's eyes. His Taiuth, who regarded him curiously, mild contentment on his face as was typical of the brown. Taiuth dipped his head and was praised for his encouragement with a peck on the end of his beak from his rider.
B'usc's name was called then. An exchange of knots was made, and he recited all the right words without falter. He was an irresponsible being most times, but not enough to forget something so important.

B'usc admired his new knots with a kind of glassy intensity in his eyes. It was as if he was dependent on them being there. A reminder that he was a brownrider of Vaioa, a representative, a guardian of Pern and good Faranth how he needed to feel needed right now.

Taiuth, I'm sorry I've been--

Ssh. Ruining moment. Taiuth teased.
