Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Rykka hurried on towards the dining hall, hoping to get herself a good place to sit before the room filled up. Reth and her had spent a better part of the day, after wing drills, soaring high above the desert and trailing the coastline. Practicing in flight maneuvers. Returning to the weyr to care to themselves and their gear. This left the woman's stomach gnawing. A high enough metabolism often left her in such a state after setting her mind and body into something that would aid herself or Reth.

Happily seating herself with her plate before her, piled high, cup of Klah set just beside it. Looks like someone is making up for the small lunch she had.
She flushed slightly at his words, looking at her over-piled plate. Oh hush you, Least I've never eaten two herdbeasts in one sitting.
They were...rather small herdbeasts... She chuckled at the haughty tone of the blue. Settling to gorge herself like a hungry firelizard.

Speaking of firelizards, Keeper appeared before her, an action that had followed a sharp surprised yelp from another part of the dining hall. He tumbled onto the table, entangled with something he'd obviously pilfered. He flailed for a moment and managed to right himself, showing he'd snatched a dried fish. Rykka frowned at his attempts to swallow it whole. Sighing, she reached over and wrestled the food from him, getting it into manageable pieces before giving it back to the blue for him to destroy the evidence.

True to the innumerable lectures delivered throughout a Candidate’s life, taking care of a growing dragon consumed you. Raisa was now intimately aware of that fact, and took the time to appreciate the few minutes a day she could spend outside of Khorinth’s world. It was time not to be Raisa, brown weyrling, or Raisa, rider of Khorinth. Just Raisa. And part and parcel of the whole ‘refreshing’ experience was time spent alone.

Unfortunately it didn’t look as though her meal break was going to accommodate her wishes. The long trestle tables filled quickly, benches warmed by faces familiar and foreign both – the woman gave a half-hearted nod where proper, but continued down the line, eyes constantly roving between mobile mouths. There had to be somewhere she could sit, somewhere secluded. She was on a tight schedule here, Khorinth’s naps grew shorter as he grew larger. And the larger he got, the more of him there was to take care of.

That heckling tic, tic, tic in the back of her head won out, and the heavy-set woman slid into a seat on Rykka’s left side. Exposure to her own blue, Little Pain, meant Keeper was shot only the briefest of distrustful looks before a gruff “hello” was reluctantly slid onto the table, as Raisa tucked into her food. Her plate was loaded, like the blue rider’s, and the way with which she wolfed it down suggested an appetite not out of place with her large stature. Dragon-keeping was hard work.

Ah, dinner time. That time when it seemed like everyone suddenly appeared out of thin air for the kitchen's hard labored cooking. Not that she wasn't one of them. After all, lessons and chores dragged on for so long it felt like she was starving. Or bored. One of the two. Slipping around people and piling a decent amount of food on her plate before grabbing herself some klah to wash it all down with and she was off. Hopefully to find a seat with the rest of the candidates if she could find them. As she was making her way down the tables when she heard a yelp and a streak of blue flash across her vision. That of course pull her attention to where the fire lizard landed and..well, what were those two doing together? She didn't think Raisa would ever end up sitting with actual people instead of herself. This she must investigate!

"So, once I get a dragon do I get to look forward to this kind of appetite?" Smirking slightly, she slid into the spot in front of both Raisa and Rykka, making sure not to bump Keeper or his own dinner. She'd been told that taking care of dragons was hard work the entire time she'd been at the weyr, and she figured with all the drills the actual dragon pairs done they had to be working hard. But wow...these two seemed to be starving. Were they taking proper care of themselves? "Or are the both of you just not eating enough usually?"

Ah wait, she was being rude again wasn't she? Best not to do that when Raisa was around or the older girl would get onto her about it in some way or another. "Hullo Rykka, Raisa. My two favorite riders!" A wink went to both of them before her gaze shifted to the blue still enjoying his fish. "And hullo to the handsome Keeper. Always a pleasure to see such a well behaved flit." King had been a pain all day long but thankfully he was off sunning for now. That gave her some time to not be used as a throne. But back to the present. "How are you two lovely ladies doing this evening?

As Raisa joined her Rykka managed a small smile as she took a painfully large swallow of the bite she'd placed in her mouth, wincing before giving her own "Hi" to the weyrling next to her. Keeper busied with wrestling the smaller pieces and gnawing on them, pausing for one moment to place a well chewed piece on Rykka's plate for her. Giving the little firelizard a scratch, and moving the piece back with the others while he was distracted. The little blue meant well but she wasn't about to eat the piece after he'd chewed it almost beyond recognition. This task distracted her enough so that Aislyn's arrival took her by surprise.

Smiling at the candidate, then blinking and looking to the girl beside her. Well, small weyr huh, guess that she knew both herself and the weyrling. Confirmed by the greeting. "Hello Aislyn." She smiled, still not knowing to many other residents of the weyr past working with them, sure she didn't know Aislyn all that well but it was more than most others. Resting her elbow on the table she planted a cheek in her upturned palm. Prodding at her food. "Feeling a lot better with food, missed lunch so trying to make up for it." Her cheeks flushed slightly. "How have you been doing?"

“Don’t choke.” Seeing Rykka force down her latest mouthful to produce a hoarse-sounding ‘hello’ in return, Raisa gruffly chided her before very nearly doing the same thing as Aislyn plopped down just opposite of her. The brown weyrling came dangerously close to actually choking on her piece of biscuit, having to thump her chest to encourage the doughy stuff down her esophagus, as she stared disbelievingly through watery eyes at what misfortune had laid at her feet.

She felt incredibly self-conscious as Aislyn teasingly brought into question the pile of food she’d loaded onto her plate, and in spite of the angry protests her empty stomach made, Raisa slid it a ways away from her as she mumbled a “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” into thin air. By then both the blue rider and the Candidate were trading comments on Rykka’s blue Keeper, and Raisa took the opportunity to sneak a mouthful of wherry before almost choking again at ‘lovely ladies’.

Others further down the table were shooting concerned looks in the direction of the weyrling, with a well-intentioned green rider sliding a pitcher of klah her way. Raisa was looking more redfruit than klah, as the large woman hunched in her seat and thought diminishing thoughts.

"Well, you should remember to take better care of yourself. Breaks for lunch are allowed, you know." She grinned as she teased the bluerider, eyes glancing over in time to catch Raisa flushing and push her food away. "I've been well. Days filled with chores, lessons, and taking care of King while avoiding his claws." Chuckling, the red head took a quick bite and studied to two in front of her. Both seemed so easy to blush, it was quite entertaining for the ex-harper.

"How has the Weyr been treating you? If I recall correctly at the last hatching feast you were still quite new. Made any new friends?" What was up with Raisa almost choking everytime she made some comment. Poor girl, was she really not used to anyone teasing or flirting with her? Perhaps she should give the weyrling a break otherwise she just might explode or...well die in this case.

"And Raisa, how has weyrlinghood been treating you? Almost as much fun as when you were a candidate with me?"

She looked over at Raisa with worry on her face as the girl started choking as well though she seemed to dislodge it enough before Rykka could offer a friendly thump of help. Having then gotten entangled in conversation with Aislyn without the weyrling dying beside her. "We got a bit distracted while doing some exercises over the desert. I know its only a short trip between but by the time we were done we were to late to have lunch and didn't want to spoil dinner." She chuckled. "Welcome to candidacy!" She grinned.

"Its been alright, still not really gotten to know many people past working with them in my wing." She admitted, she'd always been shy and having Reth didn't help much. She rubbed at the scars over her nose without thinking looking down at her plate. Jerking her head up as the girl started choking again. Looking concerned and moving to gently rub the weyrling's back.
