Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

The bronze firelizard fumed qilently on the hearth, glaring after the blue but unwilling to venture after him. The cracking open of one of the remaining three eggs behind him caught his attention.

A green spilled out, with a long-limbed, gangly build and the clumsiness of hatching. Her hide was a rich forest green, with yellow-green on her neck, muzzle, wingtips, and legs, and orange-red markings beyond that, giving her tomato-hued points that contrasted neatly with the green of her base.

The bronze turned on her, snarling, but she danced away, all but sticking her tongue out at him. She flounced away quickly and darted into the crowd, fastening upon a piece of meat and devouring it in the blink of an eye.

Jealous and obnoxious

The bronze puffed out his chest. Not for a second time was he going to let his sibling get away from him! He took some steps after her but was immediately assaulted with pieces of meat thrust into his line of vision. Reluctantly, he turned away from the green. He'd find her later, once he had eaten. Hunger taking over, he turned to a pair of hands offering scraps and leapt upon them greedily, little claws scraping at the hands as he struggled to ingest all of the meat.

Rebmikh blinked at all the chaos, watching as tiny lizards spilled from the eggs and scrambled up onto various people all jabbing wads of meat at them. She tilted her head, amazed to see such a variety of beautiful, tiny dragons, and then raised her brows when she suddenly had a small green perched on her outstretched arm, gnawing contentedly on the meat that she had absently taken from the large bowl.

She hardly remembered doing it; there was so much noise and so much confusion, she couldn't recall when she had had the force of mind to grab the meat. But as she watched the gorgeous little creature eat from her hand, a slow smile spread across her face. In an instant, she felt as if she had known the little thing all her life. So this was what bonding felt like!

"Oh, well," she cooed, bringing the little creature in closer to gently stroke its headknobs. "Aren't you pretty?"

The little creature preened herself, chirping at the compliment as she rustled her wings and peered after her bronze brother, her little face practically smirking with victory. Rebmikh laughed, grinning as the lizard climbed up and perched on her head.

"What, you think you're a hat? You'd make a fine hat, to be sure. But I think the others might get a bit jealous."

That said, she grabbed another piece of meat and fed it to the hungry little lizard as she chirruped and nipped at her hair.

"I think I'll call ya Cress," she said, grinning from ear to ear. "A fine name for a fine little dragonet. Yeah?"

Cress cooed, eyes whirling at the name, and then proceeded to eat some more. Satisfied that she was no longer needed and everyone had everything firmly under control, Rebmikh quietly left, stroking her new friend's soft hide... now she would just have to figure out how to keep the little thing happy and healthy!

Se'trik had noticed the bronze attempt to catch the blue, and wasn't surprised when the blue was able to make a quick get away, and nearly smiled when a green followed suit. Except the bronze wasn't giving up this time, stalking towards the green. Se'trik intervened, sticking a small handful of meat right under the bronze's nose in an attempt to distract it. Se'trik smiled as the bronze wavered, torn between attacking and eating, but was pleased when he chose the food. Then the blue rider winced as the bronze seemed eager to take out his foiled rage on Se'trik's fingers

"Easy there, calm down. The food isn't going anywhere little guy." Se'trik murmured, setting his bowl down on near-by and attempting to calm the bronze's ferocious movements with his other hand. He recieved a hiss and a jaw snapping at his fingers in response. "Okay, okay, I get it. It's your food and you'll eat it how you want." He said, unable to stop a chuckle even as he double checked to make sure his fingers were still in one piece. The meat in his hand was soon gone, and the bronze was hissing and warbling angrily at him, demanding more, now, or there'd be consequences.

"Aye, I hear you." Se'trik said, voice soft with amusement and growing affection as he grabbed another handful of meat. "Now, what to name you. You're certainly a striking fellow."

Striking in more ways than one. Garth commented, amusement clear in his tone. Se'trik nearly unconscious sharing of the hatchings going ons meant the blue was well aware of what the bronze had been up to before Se'trik had intervened. I believe the term is spit fire for one such as him. Se'trik chuckled.

"Hmm, spit fire, for sure, and spattered from head do toe with such lovely colors. Spatter. How about that, I think I'll call you Spatter, Spat, yeah." Se'trik smiled as the newly minted Spat simply glanced at him before turning back to his meal. "Welp, that looks like approval to me. Welcome to Vaioa, Spat." He said, giving the bronze a few soft scratches along his neck and back.

The last two eggs hatched, leaving empty shells and scattered shards in the once-full hearth. The last two lizards were a blue and a brown, both eye-catchingly colored.

The brown was two tones, dominated by a woody hue and with a reddish underbelly. The bronze was a golden tone bordering on tan, with charcoal points, and a paler yellow accent color along his back, beck, and wings. Both were attractive and would be attractive on the shoulder of any of the assembled crowd members.

The bronze didn't pay the brown any mind, but turned to the crowd with hunger radiating fiercely. The brown trotted after him, creeling in a mixture of hunger and impatience.

Still, the bronze didn't bother, focused only on the smells that drew his attention. His freshly hatched body was filled with hunger, and he was driven by the scent of ample food nearby. Eagerly he turned to one of the hands offering morsels nearest, and snapped it up.

Industrious but mischievous

The brown didn't have much time to lose either, being as hungry as he was. He likewise found a morsel quite near the sands and stepped off the hearth, gobbling it down and screeching demandingly for more.

Apero had been watching and waiting since he arrived and wondered if he would ever join the other lucky weyrfolk in getting a firelizard. As he watched with his hand holding a piece of meat, more eggs hatched. Not paying attention, he somehow Impressed. Feeling a nibbling on his fingers, he looked down and was shocked to see a brown firelizard holding onto his arm and screeching at him for more food. He lifted his arm up and examined his new friend.

"Hey, you can't just grab onto people like that. It's very rude." Apero scolded the brown. The brown crooned, licking his fingers and wrapping his neck around his wrist. Apero took the brown into his arms and cradled him gently, but the brown had other ideas. He clambered onto his shoulder and hung on tight. Apero chuckled and said, "Needy little thing are you now? I'll call you..." he paused for a moment, trying to think of a good name. He came up with it a half second later, snapping his fingers. "I got it! I'll call you Sticky since you stick onto me like glue." The newly named Sticky screeched, demanding food and approving his new name. Then the new pair left the kitchens, eager to show off in front of the lazy Apesk.

Tis the season for santa dragons
A tingle of excitement raced through T'lan as a number of eggs broke open, revealing the hungry flitts they contained. Many hands were eager thrust toward the newly hatched creatures, and he pushed his own into the mix. With more eager to impress onlookers than there were eggs he wasn't sure what his chances were. For Tiath's sake he did hope to draw the attention of one.

Amid the chaos he nearly missed the approach of a multi colored little Brown. T'lan moved his hand gently, a broad grin crossing his face as the flitt snatched up his piece of meat. "Ouch! Hang on I'll get you more, give me a second." He quickly offered the Brown another bit of meat, using it to entice the creature up onto him arm.

"There you go, that's it." He encouraged the hatchling softly as it crawled up his arm after the pieces of meat he was offering. T'lan took a moment to admire his new little Brown. His cream underbelly, front limbs and tail were a pretty contrast to his coppery wings and upper body, and darker brown of his haunches. With a satisfied croon the Brown snugglied sleepily into the crook of T'lan's arm.

"You got one!" Tiath exclaimed, making the young man wince as he carefully made his way through the crow. "Yes I did, just for you. Now no screeching when I get back. He's sleeping and I don't think waking him up will be a good idea." "I'll be quiet. I already know what we can call him!" T'lan frowned slightly, "And what would that be?" "I will tell you once you get back." She answered in a teasing tone, making T'lan sigh and shake his head. He wasn't sure he wanted to know what sort of name his dragon had come up with for the Brown.

Having waited patiently through the waves of weaving, creeling hatchlings Sabine was prepared to step away with only the littlest of disappointed sighs. With two last eggs, the diminutive woman used her height (or lack of) to her advantage, worming as close to the makeshift nest as she dared while the final babies made their entrances. The brown caught her eye first, and Sabine admired the reddish hue to his undercarriage – she was reminded of that brown weyrling she’d seen around the Weyr, the one with the rider who’d made funny faces at her that one time they’d crossed paths.

The bronze soon stole the spotlight, though. His dark points drew her eye while her still ample supply of food drew his. Fingers tingling with anticipation, Sabine grinned as she thrust her offering forward. And to her delight, the richly colored fire-lizard accepted. Suppressing a little squeal of delight, Sabine fed him a constant flow of love and meaty morsels both as she scooped him up and cradled the bronze close.

Oh he’s lovely! Bring him back, I want to see him! Well pleased with this outcome, Pinysith’s entreaties were more like demands. Of course, your majesty. I shall be there shortly. Sabine teased Piny even as she scanned the crowd for the familiar face of T’ech.

Spotting the former Weyrleader, Sabine carefully extricated herself from the bulk of the crowd and wove through the remaining bodies to reach the man. “Thanks for letting us all have a crack at your gold’s eggs.” It took her a second to catch on to her own unintended joke, and the green rider snorted back a laugh as realization struck her.

Now, as her happiness bubbled over into a fit of contagious giggles, Sabine was forced to end her thanks with a bob of her head before scurrying off to share her new pet with her waiting dragon.

Jhase watched with interest as the eggs hatched, watching the lucky impresses gather up their living prizes and tend to them. They all seemed to be hatching so fast. She had lost count of how many had gone to someone and how many were left. Somewhere behind her, someone yawned. She turned to meet the rich green eyes of a young man wearing grey knots.

"Sleepy?" she asked, good-naturedly. N'ruk looked at her, the index finger of his right hand tapping his temple.

"Bored." he replied in a low voice. "But I thought I would at least see who got what."

"You don't want one?" Jhase asked in an awed tone, mouth dropping open as the handsome young man shook his head.

"And you do? It's a shoddy comparison to a dragon." he said with a snort. Jhase made a face and turned away to watch the eggs.

'I don't have a dragon.' she thought of saying and then thought better of it. 'In any case, it would be nice to have friend in this new place.'
