Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

V'ash tag Aniese and Rhias

Such a polite candidate couldn’t remember a time someone had actually curtsied. Come to think of it had he ever mastered bowing from all those manner lessons? Best not to try, so he smiled and turned, he did not expect the hand tugging at his sleeve. He jerked to a stop, Pip and Dim turning to stare at Aniese with curious gazes. Surprised the candidate master quickly hushed the new firelizard. Vim had not been happy at the disturbance and chattered angrily at the candidate. She should be more careful! That tug might have sent her to the ground. Feeling that her bonded’s hand was not the most stable place the hatchling clambered up the rider’s only free shoulder. Glaring from that perch as she cleaned herself from the previous messy meal.

V’ash crossed his arms, a gentler smile lighting his face as Aniese turned red. He gave a simple nod as she finished speaking, couldn’t be mad at her for trying to get his attention even if she had made Vim a bit disgruntled. He could tell that green would be quite precise about many things and he certainly didn’t mind hanging around to answer questions. Why he had only started to make his way out so the candidates could have a shot at new pets. Hearing Aniese’s stammering questions reminded him that he had important job matters to deal with as well. “Well Aniese, we can certainly set you up with something.”

He spoke as Rhias bent to pick up a newly acquired brown. Grinning at the sight he prepared to continue with Aniese, watching Rhias from the side of his eye as she stumbled forward firelizard prominent in her grasp. A good thing he watched because he quickly shut his mouth as the candidate’s face twisted and spewed vomit all over his shirt. V’ash kept his mouth and eyes tightly shut, his hands splaying in disgust as he went stiff. His trio of greens squawked in surprise all quickly taking flight and finding perches among the rafters. V’ash carefully opened his eyes nose already wrinkling from the stench clinging to him. Hands thankfully clean he wiped at his face to rid it of any ‘splatter’. “I think…” he spoke slowly, almost holding his breath, “your first duty as a candidate…” V’ash shivered at the sight covering him. Without further thought he pulled off his shirt and let it fall to the floor.

Breathing a sigh of relief he visibly relaxed, body releasing all the tension as a hand wiped at his forehead to clear any much that might have fallen from the shirt. “can be to see your roommate to her bed…with a bucket close at hand.” Shirtless and smiling once again it might be disconcerting to see the sprawl of threadscore that dominated his chest. Normally a hair like scar or two could be seen on his neck, but the pattern displayed now consumed his upper body in a web like crawl. “I’m going to get cleaned up and will have something more permanent for you after Rhias here is seen to. Think you can handle that? Don’t want you ending up sick too so don’t let her breathe on you. Oh,” he paused for a moment a thought just occurring, “and Rhias I think you owe me a new shirt…that or a very deep cleaning of…that one.” He shivered at the mess on the floor. Shouldn’t stick the drudges with that, but it seemed unfair to make Aniese deal with it.

Tis the season for santa dragons
"You will be too late and they will all be bonded by now!" Tiath wailed sadly. T'lan didn't pause as he burst into the dinning hall, slowing just enough not to knock anyone down on his way to the kitchen. "Really Tiath how was I suppose to know they would hatch today. Don't give up hope yet, You never know." He said, trying to reassure his dragon. He had been growing more keen on the idea of having a flitt. After talking with Aniese he didn't think it would be too difficult to raise one, especially if he also had her help.

The Garnetrider relaxed in relief as he spotted eggs still waiting to hatch. Tiath probably would have moped for days if he'd been too late. T'lan began to edge closer to the clutch, snatching up a couple pieces of meat from a passing drudge. He turned his eyes to the remaining eggs, watching them hopefully. "Oh I do hope we get one." The Garnet sounds both hopeful and impatient. "If we don't I'm sure there will be other clutches love."

How far away are they?!
Watching the eggs Hatch Kess smiled and gave images of each of the new babies to Tynoth (who cooed at every last one of them and hoped that they would choose Kess), so far none had but there were still eggs left and three new babies who had yet to choose companions for themselves.

As the Green and Bronze found new friends, Tynoth whining once more as they did not pick Kess, she almost missed the antics of the newly Hatched Brown and the little Blue. Poor little thing! He was making so much noise as though he'd been seriously hurt but Kess believed that he was more scared than injured.

Finally the Blue skittered away... right into her hands. The girl gasped as he took the first bite of meat from her hands and she felt his hunger as her own. She smiled, giving him another piece of meat quickly to satisfy that burning hunger in her own stomach as well as his. We did it Tynoth, we got one! Now we just have to choose a name for him. Kess smiled as she ran a hand down the harper blue spine of their new friend.
Oh oh! Bring him to me! Please please! I want to see him! I want to see our new friend!
I will love, I promise, what shall we call him though? Kess asked once more, cuddling the little Blue in her arms as he began to doze.
Erm, erm... oh... I don't know! How about... how about Teal or Harper? Tynoth said softly, not really knowing what to call him.
Teal. Yes that would work. I like it.

Aniese jumped in shock as something small and hard collided with her bowl of scraps. She looked down and saw with some indignation that it was a firelizard-- and that he was greedily gobbling them up. She and Aniese simultaneously bent down and rescued the fallen scraps, but the brown immediately leapt at Rhias's fingers, screeching for more.

Aniese let Rhias have free rein of the scraps, but before she could do much more, there was another firelizard barking at her. He had seized upon the fallen scraps too. And he seemed to be much less skittish and more willing to stay and pursue a meal.

Aniese opened her mouth in dismay but found herself feeding the bronze nonetheless. She was perversely pleased, not simply by his color-- she had secretly been hoping for a larger or more intelligent lizard-- but by the instincts he was already displaying. He did not have to be coaxed-- he was willing to pursue food even if it meant coming into contact with her.

It did not take much to get him to crawl up her forearm. He perched there awkwardly, and she suddenly got a sense of both curiosity and greedy hunger.

ANiese tried her best to open her mind to him and to think thoughts of love and comfort even as she continued feeding him. She admired the flow of colors on his hide-- a true bronze all over, with a golden underbelly that extended down to his tailtip and the fork and up his neck to his jaw and chin. He had matching golden socks on each of his limbs. Aniese wished briefly that he was a bronze all over, but squashed the childish urge. Cedar, too, had markings.

The little one finally finished eating and leaned against her torso. ANiese moved to cradle him when it happened.

She hadn't been watching, but she clearly heard the noise of Rhias being sick. She looked up with horror, automatically stepping backward and not even caring that she jostled the little bronze, who began scolding her roundly.

There, very clearly, was their candidate master, fighting a look of disgust and shock from spreading all over his face. Aniese had nothing to do with this but she was as horrified if it had somehow been her fault.

That horror melted into self-conscious embarrassment as V'ash cleanly pulled his tunic off. What she did not expect was the tangle of scars across his torso, and Aniese stared at that for a moment, but she was more mesmerized by the contours of his abdomen.

Does O'zen's chest look like this? Does T'lan's?

She knew she was slowly growing redder and dragged her eyes back up to meet V'ash's, hoping he hadn't noticed her staring. "Yes! Yes sir!" She said rapidly, in a sudden mood to please in order to conceal that she had been ogling him. Shells, Aniese, he's a kid! Keep your eyes to yourself! "I'll get her back to bed straight away! And check the chores board later. Thank you." She offered him a pained smile and looked down at her new firelizard.

The little one was now irate, having had no attention at all for the past few moments. He squawked as his dignity was broached when Aniese transferred him to her shoulder.

"Stay there," she told him firmly, pairing the order with a mental sensation. He finally settled there, glowering.

"Now... let's get you back to the barracks. If you have to do that again, do turn away from me, won't you?" She half joked, and supported Rhias out of the hall.

Rhias - Tag Aniese and V'ash:

"Sorry gorgeous," Rhias managed to mumble around her growing level of discomfort.

She barely got the chance to enjoy the sight of the young bluerider shirtless before her stomach heaved again and she was struggling to keep what was left of her dinner inside. The infant brown curled his tail around her neck and seemed content to fall fast asleep; he showed none of the worry of Jo at his new master's predicament.

Aniese was at her side again - was that a bronze fire lizard on her shoulder? - and Rhias let all her complaints and stubbornness go for once. Her stomach had already called her bluff, no one was going to buy that she was still up to working today. Better to curl up in bed and cuddle her new fire lizard than make even more of a mess.

"Not a total failure of a day," she told her friend. "Got us some new friends, got to see one scrumptious bluerider in the buff. Not bad. Not bad at all."

Apero was bored. He was tired of yelling at Apesk for the day so he was in the kitchens eating some food. As he was finishing his meal, he overheard a rumor of a firelizard clutch hatching in the hearth of a fire. So, he cleaned up his dishes and headed over to where a few riders and other weyrfolk were gathered, oohing and awing at the clutch. With a few "excuse me"s and "pardon me"s he made his way to the front of the crowd.

A few had already Impressed a firelizard of their own and he was a bit worried if there was one for him. He pondered at what color would he Impress; surely not a gold! He considered a blue would be the best for him since he had his blue Apesk... if he would Impress one.

Gwen gasped when one of the tiny creatures began nibbling at the meat she'd had shoved into her hands, and slowly, so as not to startle it, she unfurled her palm, giggling excitedly when the green shimmied her way onto the rest of her hand to continue her pursuit of her meal.

"Oh, just look at you, you're gorgeous," she breathed, amazed by the interplay of the pretty blue and green on her new pet's hide. The firelizard trilled contentedly, smudging her nose against Gwen's palm in an entreaty for more.

She was going to have to track her aunt down immediately. Gwen had never had a firelizard before, but Heli had had her bronze Sol for turns, now. She'd know how to take perfect care of her new little gem.

Hunger pangs drummed in her stomach, and Gwen stared down at the green, wondering if they were coming from her. Was this some kind of pale feeling of what having a dragon was like? Incredible!

"Let's get you some more food, and then we'll go introduce you to my aunt Heli! Maybe she'll even knit you a little bow or something, wouldn't that be pretty?"

The 'lizard chirped, nuzzling into Gwen's palms. That sounded great, whatever it meant.

Jevonna had woken up early and enjoyed a moment of quiet before starting her day. She'd briefly had a roommate when she first arrived, nut the other girl had Impressed, leaving her with a room of her own. At least until more candidates were searched. Eventually, she managed to get out of bed and got ready for the day. She knew she had a bit of time before chores started, and hurried to the Dinning Hall to eat.

Jevonna had expected the hall to be busy, but not the crowd gathered off to one side. The miner made her way over to the crowd, using her height to gaze over people's heads. Brown eyes widened slightly as she watched firelizards hatch and find theirs.
Impulsively, she snagged a piece of meat from a nearby tray, before settling down to watch. She hoped she'd get one, but it looked as if part of the clutch had already hatched.

The multicolored brown who had hatched alongside the bright green roved forward, hissing in hunger. Behind him, another blue and a bronze hatched. The blue was a deep royal color with teal wingsails and a transition to navy along his wingfingers. He skidded in the sand and slid right into the bronze.

The bronze was mottled all over with brown and yellow patches, and along his limbs and tail, his base color turned rusty and reddish. He would have been pretty, and quite striking, but he scrambled to his feet with a snarl and bore down on the blue.

The brown was ignorant to the drama unfolding behind him. Instead, he was fiercely focused on the smell of meat filling his nose. There were many scraps being offered all around him, but finally, he seized on one and snapped it up eagerly, before hissing and clawing at the hand for more.

Straightforward and demanding

As the brown Impressed, the blue shrieked and pranced away from his bronze brother, who puffed himself up and approached the blue menacingly.

The blue apparently decided it was time to make a quick getaway. He turned on his tail and streaked away, fastening upon a morsel of meat some happy distance away and stopping only once he had reached it. At that point, his belligerent brother was driven from his mind, and hunger took over. He concentrated only on gobbling it down as quickly as possible and obtaining another.

Se'trik's smile was back in force as he took in all the lovely creatures hatching before him. None had seemed really interested in him, but he didn't mind. Just watching them was a unique and quite enjoyable experience. Perhaps he'd have to join in to watch firelizard hatchings more often.

Or you could impress one and be able to watch it whenever you wanted. Garth commented, causing Se'trik to huff a bit in an attempt to hold in a laugh.

I suppose that would be the prudent thing to do I suppose. Se'trik said, twitching the meat in his fingers in hopes of tempting one of the little ones to him.
