Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Yawning and running a hand through his 'bed head', Devon tiredly dragged himself towards the dining hall to quickly grab up some breakfast. Another day of chore and lessons, and hopefully if he could slip out, a visit at the stables again. Of course upon entering the dining hall it was obvious something was going on. There was a crowd starting to form by the hearth. The young man attempted to rise his still sleeping brain to figure out why they were doing so. Oh, oh. Hadn't there been a gold over there with eggs?

Mmm, breakfast.

For once though, it seemed like the curiosity of a fire lizard hatching would keep the growing boy from food. This time. Time to get a closer look. Easing he way through, Devon grabbed a few bits of meat because surely the little ones would be as hungry as him. The thought that the smell of it didn't quite make it to his mind but hey, it would be nice to have a bit around. Give him something extra to do with all that 'free time' they had.

By the time he actually got a half-way decent look, some of the eggs had already cracked and the firelizards paired off. Oh, they were kinda cute fresh outta the shell. Almost reminded him of how runners looked right out of the womb. Interesting start to his morning.

V’ash looked up from the new firelizard in his hand to get a good look at the new candidate. Such a serious lass, well by the looks of it probably older than him! He laughed at the thought, they he quickly stifled the chuckle as she answered him eyes locking onto his face. Oh but he was quite used to having candidates older than him, still they could smile a bit more. Hopefully a few more turns wouldn’t take away his cheerfulness. His eyes lit up at the name, Pip chirping happily, “Ah Aniese that was the name! A pleasure to have you join our merry group. I’m sure Rhias has filled you in on all our adventures, no?” He turned to the sickly looking candidate brow raising in question, before once more turning to Aniese. He never liked reading the names of new candidates or hearing them from the other masters. V’ash would never forget a face when it told him its name. An odd habit but he enjoyed meeting people in person. Especially candidates, probably should have gone to the barracks to greet the newcomer.

Rhias’ answer concerned him, she looked liable to fall over any moment, but he couldn’t help but admire her rebelliousness. So he might frown at first, but in the end he relented with a smile and a nod. Sweeping floors might be just the task for her, as long as she didn’t stir up the dust too much. A broom to lean on might be just what she needed. Her next comment put him a bit off guard, eyes going wide with shock for a moment. Dim gave a low warble this time, amused by the reaction from her bonded. Hadn’t had a candidate say such things to him before, what would T’rran do? Oh that’s right go red and stammer, maybe try to be threatening. V’ash smiled, recovering quickly, if anything that half-hearted smile made him laugh. Perhaps on a different day she would’ve been more charming, but at the moment she still seemed liable to be sick all over him, “Rhias I’ll be worrying my pretty little head once you’ve impressed, but for the weyr not for you.” Playful, but he kept his tone from any flirting, best not to encourage such behavior among subordinates.

“I’m merely concerned that if you don’t rest now you’ll end up having to do double the work when you’re sick all over the floor.” A small hum alerted him and he looked down to the tiny figure in his palm. Quite stuffed the new green had settled down and curled within his hand to get some rest. Smiling gently he spoke to the creature, “Think I’ll call you Vim…” then as if he had forgotten about the candidates his head snapped back up, “Ah well I won’t keep you from trying to get your own new friends. V’ash is the name Aniese,” he had just realized he had never introduced himself, “my blue Cedith will be delighted to know we have another capable candidate on hand.” He nodded to both of them, already humming to himself as he turned to go find the blue dragon and show him the new firelizard. Though they might have caught the muttering, “Faranth knows those are in short supply.”

Aniese: Tag Rhias/V'ash

Aniese's eyes widened in disbelief as she looked at Rhias. If V'ash was a [o]candidate master,[/i] how could she think of adopting such a tone with him? She stoped gaping quickly and looked back at V'ash, nodding at him.

"I'm bunking with Rhias, so she's shown me the ropes, so to speak," Aniese offered quietly, studying his young face once more. A Candidate master at that age? He must truly be a competent rider.

"Nice to meet you, V'ash," she finished, dipping into a half-curtsy out of habit of her Hold ways. 'And Cedith,' she muttered under her breath. She'd have to remember that.

As he turned to go, she held out a hand and tugged on his sleeve before he could turn away. "Er.. Wait! I'm-- Sorry, I don't mean..." She flushed slightly. Hopefully he would not think her impudent or disobedient or something.

"Uh, I haven't... Been able to visit Merilla yet." Aniese went redder. Such behavior didn't reflect well on herself. "Uh, Rhias said that Merilla is... in charge? But I haven't... I mean, I've just barely moved in a day ago. So... uh, would you be able to help me get set up with my chores and stuff?" She held the bowl of meat she'd been sharing with Rhias only loosely, tipping it forward slightly as she concentrated on V'ash.

The brown who had hatched swiped at the sands drying to his hide. As he moved, flaring open his wings, his coloring caught the light, revealing the difference in tones along his hide. He appeared to be a sweet, orange-tinted chocolate tone, with a pale, milky color along the lateral side of his tail, up his underbelly, under his neck, and sweeping up across his face and snout. He still did not appear particularly motivated, although the scent of food was catching his interest, and he turned toward the crowd with hunger whirling in his reddish eyes.

Two eggs behind him burst open, revealing a bronze and another blue. The blue was quite handsome, being a rich periwinkle covered all over with dapples and splotches of a much brighter green-blue color. The bronze was rather typically colored, though he appeared to gleam golden on his underbelly , from his neck to his tail, and on the base of all four limbs. He spread his wings, revealing similar golden splotches along the edge of his sails.

The blue scrambled forward, shrieking loudly. He was hungry and didn't care that there were others! He made a clumsy dash and almost collided with the brown. Meanwhile the bronze picked himself up carefully and glanced over with some disdain.

The brown hissed and shot off like a greased tunnelsnake, unimpressed with the blue and finally won over by hunger. He landed right smack into a bowl of cuttings and overturned it, beginning to gobble up as much as he could. The pieces were picked up quickly and he leapt at the hands that did it, hardly caring that they were unfamiliar and greedy for more.

The blue didn't wait to watch him go; he threw the bronze a cross glance and leapt on the nearest piece of meat. No use leaving the hearth unless he had to.

She was spending more and more time in the Weyr lately, Gwen reflected, wondering if perhaps she should consider moving shop a little closer than the mines. That didn't really make any tactical sense, though, as she needed the heat and flame of the forge to craft her pieces.

Speaking of pieces, she'd managed to sell a few, mostly to bored Riders with extra marks in their pockets, or lower caverns folk with an eye for shiny trinkets. Glasswork hadn't really ever been in HIGH demand, but maybe that's because glassworkers tended to be few and far inbetween. They simply weren't as common as some of the other crafts, but wouldn't that create demand?

Gwen wasn't going to pretend that she understood how the economy worked. She was just here to deliver one of her most recent completed commissions.

She was, however, rather hungry, and a quick trip into the dining hall never did anyone any harm. The bread that was sitting on the warm hearth smelled absolutely fantastic, and she gravitated towards it, confused when the small knots of people became thick throngs of bodies. What was going on? Was the bread really that good today? Was there even any left? Gwen nearly despaired.

However, something much more interesting than bread was going on. Small, baby flitters dotted the very edge of the crowd, which seemed to have gathered around a nest of rocking eggs. Gwen drew in a soft, surprised breath, blinking owlishly when someone pressed scraps of meat into her hands. Was...? Oh...? She? Okay. Okay! Apparently she was going to attempt to lure one of the darling little creatures.

She tucked the pouch holding her commission securely into her belt, scooting further into the fray in an attempt to increase her chances. Weyr life was certainly exciting!

How far away are they?!
Kess:

Come on come on! You promised Kess you promised! You'll MISS it! Tynoth huffed as he nudged his tiny Rider across the Weyrbowl with his nose; pushing her along rather than letting her walk.
"Tynoth! Tynoth give up! I'm going already I'm going!" The girl laughed as he shoved her again. Since her Blue had found out about the Fire Lizard Clutch he hadn't shut up about it - since their failure to gain a companion the last couple of times he had become obsessed with Kess getting one this time.

"Now stop it! I'm going, just wait here." Kess grinned, kissing his nose before she turned and ran into the Kitchens. The girl nodded to T'ech and Samus before she found herself some meat and a spare seat. Looking around she smiled as she watched some of the eggs hatch and find themselves new friends. She could already feel Tynoth pressing at her to see if THEY had one yet... impatient blighter.

Rhias - Tag Aniese and V'ash:

Judging by past experiences with the bluerider, he was probably honestly concerned about her. It was cute, really, Rhias found it adorable how he and T'rran could be so strict but so sweet at the same time. They hadn't yet tossed her out on her arse for her attitude at least, but she'd been keeping a low profile. It wasn't hard to do when they had candidates fighting, candidates almost drowning in three feet of water, and candidates dying the candidate master's dragon purple.

Really she must seem so tame in comparison. Whatever would the people back at Igen think?

She opened her mouth to assure him she'd be alright, to make some smart-mouthed quip about his playful jab at her, but there was quite suddenly a brown fire lizard knocking the meat bowl right out of Aniese's hands. She bent to gather up the meat, possibly to attract the little critter, but the motion had her stomach roiling.

Rhias had to close her eyes and take deep breaths to keep herself from losing last night's dinner. When she opened them again, there he was, a perfect chestnut with a bright tan belly nibbling gently at meat still in her fingers. She scooped him up, and stuffed his face and tried not to think about how slick and nauseating the sight of meat was at the moment.

She felt quite triumphant, accomplished and ready to wave her new friend in V'ash's face to show him she could do anything she wanted when she was sick, thank you very much. As she moved to do this, however, her stomach won the war it'd been waging against her since she woke up and emptied itself across the candidate master's shirt. "Fwha....shaffit..."

"Shards!" The young man blinked in surprise as one of the little ones attacked the meat that was in his hands. Perhaps he should've waited until he was a bit more awake to get this close to the eggs; he hadn't been expecting one of them to leap at him like that. Oh, it was a pretty blue. "Well hello there." Devon mumbled, though he was pretty sure that the blue was not paying any attention to anything besides the meat it was currently gnawing on.

As soon as the first piece vanished, Devon was quick to offer up another and then scoop the blue into his arm. Not to just...get away from the crowd. Quickly stepping to the side, pausing only to chuckle at how quickly the hole was filled up, the dark-haired candidate continued to ferry bits of meat to his new pet so he didn't notice the crowd around them.

A grumble from his own stomach had him pulling a face. Well, once he finished feeding the little one he'd get his own breakfast. Hmm, and he'd have to come up with a name for the new company as well. A nip at his fingers and the blue was glaring up at him. Oh right. "Sorry, guy."

Behold! For I am the Zi-beast!
Se'trik smiled at the hatchlings. They certainly were individuals. He'd never realized just how much personality the little things could have even so young. Finally done with his klah, he passed the cup off to a drudge with a smile and thanks, before turning his full attention back to the firelizards.

A brown, a green, a blue, a bronze, a blue, and all bonded but the bronze, who seemed in no hurry. Se'trik joined the throng holding meat out in one hand and murmuring or making other noises of reassurance. Tempting the little creature to come to him.

Three eggs burst open quickly, revealing a brown, a blue, and a green. The bronze hardly had time to react; he barely moved out of the way before they began scrambling forward.

The brown was an orangey, almost coppery shade with a yellow cream on his underbelly and front limbs, and a deeper brown on his haunches. Though he seemed uncharacteristically colorful, it was his green sister who drew the eye.

She was a very bright verdant shade, but her markings made her stand out-- they were a tropical blue edging her wingsails and underbelly, and when she flared her wings open, the contrast was startling and beautiful.

She seemed to have more confidence than her blue brother, who was also fairly brightly colored, though not nearly as bright as she was. His hide was a deep teal with a harper blue along his spine and wings and up to his headknobs, finally forming a mask on his face. He did not show off, however, but shied away into the comfort of the few unhatched eggs.

The green eyed him for a moment and trotted forward eagerly, snapping at the offered morsels of meat and finally prizing one from the fingers that held it.

Relaxed and eager to please

The bronze looked the blue over and gave a derisive snort. With a tail flick, he too was off into the crowd. He had finally grown too hungry to stay among the eggshells, and pity that fool of a blue. He found some fallen pieces of meat and snatched them up eagerly before barking imperiously for more.

The brown who had just hatched caught one of his feet on a pile of sand and tripped, ploughing straight into the blue. The blue gave an insulted shriek and danced away, nursing his side as though he'd been seriously hurt. He creeled loudly, a combination of mock wounded pride and hunger, and bumped headlong into a set of hands holding out meat. Quickly, he stopped his bawling and concentrated on eating, until the hunger in his belly abated.
