Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

A cup of Klah in hand and a fresh redfruit in slices on the plate before him, S'dal hummed happily to himself. People-watching in the morning was one of his favorite things in the world.

Everything is your favorite thing, Zelorth sleepily commented, stirring just enough to chuckle at his rider's expense.

Oh hush, go back to sleep you great lazy thing.

Still, he grinned and popped a slice of fruit into his mouth in good humor, greeting a sleepy rider now and then as they entered or left. He'd almost finished his fruit and klah and settled himself back to ponder his duties for the day when he saw T'ech stand up and shout something about hatching.

Quirking an eyebrow, S'dal stood and ventured closer. Already? How time flew when one was busy....

Snagging a handful of meat from a drudge with a bowl, he took a place near the hearth to watch the fun and test his luck. He'd never had one of the charming little creatures. Maybe if he was lucky, he'd get one that liked to sing!

Rhias - Tag Aniese:

Rhias settled greedy eyes on the first two fire lizards of the clutch. Jays that blue! Jo's hum rose in pitch until it vibrated her skull annoyingly. She felt like her head was going to explode. Luckily, Aniese seemed to materialize at her elbow and provided a welcome distraction from the pounding of her skull. Rhias seriously hoped she hadn't passed whatever bug she'd caught on to her roommate. Misery loved company but she wouldn't wish this shaffit on anyone.

"I feel awful," she admitted. "I think I caught whatever T'rran had last week. Just woke up feeling like there were little green dragons swimming around in my stomach and churning things up, you know? Pretty fardling awful."

There was a green Impressed now and many more eggs to go. She gestured at them. "Are you gonna try for one and add to your flock? I was thinking about it. The room might get a little crowded but things would never be boring again."

Nuin almost tempted to leave before anything got started. What was she doing? She didn't need another mouth to feed. It was a stupid idea. Why did she even decide to do it in the first place? But before she could back out the eggs began to move even more. Cracks could be seen in the shells. Now or never...Nuin grumbled and waited with everyone else. When the first two eggs hatched she took a moment to admire their colors. Especially the blue's wing design. It was impressive. Then the little creature headed right for her...and her hand that held a piece of meat out which he snatched up hungrily.

She wasn't sure what happened at first since she didn't recall putting her hand out at all. But when she felt the sudden rush of a new mind touching hers, more dulled than with her Nuisk, yet still noticeable. Nuin realized she was now bonded to the little squalling lizard. Who was looking to her for more food and his hunger pinched at her belly. "Alright alright ya little boe-face."

'Boe' had been a weird word one of the elders from her old caravan used to call the children all the time. Mostly babies and it popped into her head to call him that as an insult. Basically calling him a 'baby face' for all his 'crying'. But once she said the word he let out a sudden chirp of recognition. Frowning Nuin looked at the firelizard while holding out another piece of meat. "....Boeface?"

Sure enough he gave her a sweet little trill and took the offered food. Great...she just named her very first flit something she meant as an insult. Way to go Nuin. Way to go. He didn't seem to mind though. Getting his fill he was soon crawling up her arm and snuggling into the crook of her neck. Nuin frowned at the show of affection but what could she do. With a frustrated sigh she took a look around before lowering her head and making sure not to let the flit drop form her shoulder, she left the Dining Hall. Just wait till Nuisk saw this...

It seemed that the eggs decided there time to split was now and two shells collapsed at the same time. Leaving behind a squalling green and blue. Pip and Dim hummed excitedly. Just look at the new little pretty ones. V’ash watched with a grin eager to see which way the firelizards would wander. The blue found a hand rather quickly, but his sister seemed a bit…no shy wasn’t the word. Hesitant maybe but not scared, just wary. Quieting the greens on his shoulder he gently offered some of the scraps he’d retrieved. The green looked at the bits, then up at him, questioning in her eyes. Independence strong in her stance, maybe she would chose to go wild even with all these offering hands.

Hunger won her over and she snapped up what he offered. He could feel the gentle glow of impression, knew well enough how she felt, but she did not hop towards him or into his hands like the other two had. Shrugging it off he smiled and simply offered her more to eat from where she stood. That seemed to do the trick. Carefully he placed the food further up his hand, her little neck could only reach so far and soon enough she had two forelegs on his fingers. He moved the scraps further up his arm, and soon enough she stood on his palm. Dim and Pip kept blessedly silent as they peered curiously at the new green. Now that he had her well in hand V’ash moved back to let others surge forward.

He didn’t push the issue with the independent new green and she continued to eat carefully. So to make her more comfortable he looked away, let her settle down and get comfortable in his palm before making proper introductions. The green seemed to like that and nibbled away at her meal. V’ash however heard a familiar voice in the crowd and he quickly spotted Rhias. Though the girl looked dreadful and he could hear her telling the girl next to her that she felt awful. He didn’t mean to eavesdrop or be rude, but he felt that as a candidate master he should at least be there.

“Rhias,” he spoke gently as he moved towards the candidate, “feel free to sleep off and recover from whatever ill effects you're feeling. I’ll let Merilla know if you need some rest. Oh and who is this?” he raised an eyebrow at the sight of Aniese, she wore candidate knots but he hadn’t seen her yet. Perhaps this was the one T’rran had spoken of. Said to keep an eye out for a new candidate Skyth had searched out. A small chatter drew his attention back down to his palm, the new green hatchling actually calling out for his attention. Smiling V’ash dropped some more scraps into his hand for her, giving her a gentle scratch as he did.

Behold! For I am the Zi-beast!
Se'trik smiled softly as two shells cracked together. A flashy little blue and a lovely green were the results. He wasn't surprised when the blue found an owner quickly, though the green's distrust of the hands around her was intriguing. Sadly, he missed his chance for either of them, as one hand still held his nearly empty cup of klah. It didn't worry the man though. There were a fair few eggs left after all, and no doubt another clutch would come around eventually.

Perhaps you will be fortunate, and the larger eggs will all hatch last. I wouldn't mind a pretty bronze friend. Garth said, and Se'trik could just about see his friend in his mind, humming softly along with the little ones.

I've doubts there will be a bronze in this bunch, dear heart. Se'trik replied, shifting his position in the crowd a bit to get a better view. I'm fairly certain a brown fathered this batch. The telepathic snort wasn't unexpected, but it caused Se'trik to chuckle all the same.

Aniese: Rhias and V'ash

Aniese pressed her lips together unhappily and nodded at Rhias's words. Hopefully she wouldn't catch it, then... "Did you eat anything?" She asked Rhias uncertainly. No use trying to get something down if it was gonna come right back up, but maybe Rhias wasn't feeling that ill. "I'm not sure," she said uncertainly. "I already have three... I guess if I could train one properly this time, it wouldn't be terrible," she admitted.

She jumped as an unfamiliar kid leaned over Rhias. Her eyes flicked to his knots and she did a double-take. She recognized that extra little loop... It was the same one that had been on T'rran's knots. So this must be one of the candidate masters...

Aniese cleared her throat and looked him full in the face. "Hello. My name is Aniese. I'm a candidate, too." She'd only recently accepted her Search officially, but she was slightly surprised he didn't know who she was, then chagrined at herself. It's not like she was important; why should he know her?

Archivist Assistant Dofon
Tag T'ech

There were very few things that could interrupt Dofon from eating a meal, and even fewer that would make him give up any of his meal to anything else. Even his own firelizard had to sometimes try and cleverly sneak food off of his gluttony human-pet's plate, though this wasn't because the boy didn't want to give his food to the little green, but rather his focus on his own meal.

Even tonight, when a certain Wingleader called Weyrfolk to him to Impress imminently hatching eggs, Dofon had no idea about it until he faintly heard oohs and aahs from a nearby gathering, but still didn't look up from his plate - half a meatroll in his mouth - until Leaf began to chirp worriedly at him. The mute lad looked around, and realized that there were little firelizards hatching. How lovely! Maybe he could get himself a friend for Leaf! Half a meatroll in one hand and his slate in the other, Dofon galloped toward T'ech, causing Leaf to squawk indignantly and hide underneath his shirt. The tiny boy was meandering through the crowd, and so he got a little lost in the throng of people, and accidentally bumped into the bronzerider's leg. Oops! Trying to pretend nothing had happened - though his cheeks blazing red betrayed him here - Dofon tried to sneak glances at the hatching eggs, hoping to see if one of the babies would come toward him. How exciting!

Rhias - Tag Aniese and V'ash:

"I haven't even made an attempt," Rhias told her friend.

The thought of food made her stomach roil dangerously. She wondered if perhaps she should just sit down for a while. But then V'ash poked his nose into their conversation and Rhias felt silly for thinking for a second that she couldn't handle things. She didn't need special treatment. That would just make her feel silly and childish.

"I a'int taking no breaks," Rhias said rebelliously. "Been sick before. Never stopped me from doing what needs to be done. I can sweep floors with an upset stomach just as well as I could without." She smiled at V'ash in what was probably intended to be a charming manner but just came off looking tired and half-hearted. "Don't you worry your pretty little head about me, handsome."

Three eggs hatched in quick succession, spilling out a brown, a blue, and a green.

The brown's shell cracked open and he slid out languidly, immediately becoming half-covered in sand particles as his hide was still wet. He picked himself up slowly but did not seem particularly bothered. He was hungry, but he was quickly distracted by the eggs nearest him hatching.

The blue was a bright shade, and pale too, with darkening along limbs and tail. The darker color also formed a mask-like marking on his face, and extended down the dorsal side of his neck.

He landed on all fours and immediately creeled hungrily. The pain in his belly was overwhelming! Before he could take more than a step forward, the just-hatched green tumbled into him.

She was a very pale color, like mint leaves but less saturated, and she had a white tailtip and muzzle. She extricated herself from the tangle of limbs that was her brother, and barked irately at him. He scrambled backward, eyes whirling quickly. Meanwhile, the brown watched all of this with disinterested concern, leaning against one of the quickly-rocking eggs.

The green gave one final harrumph and turned away. She was hungry, and there was food right here, being offered-- she could smell it! Eagerly she pounced forward and gobbled up a morsel.

Grouchy but hard-working

The blue practically breathed a sign of relief as the green vanished, and he too turned toward the many pieces of meat being thrust at him. His eyes whirled anxiously and his head swung back and forth, confused... Too many choices! Finally he dashed headlong into the crowd and ended up bumping headfirst into a hand. He then scrabbled at the fingers and prized the piece of meat from it. Much better...

The Good Kind of Crazy
Jo’than watched in amusement as the three hatchings scurried around the sand, the brown the pale green, and the blue. When the blue and green collided he winced, the little green seemed more incensed than the blue did. But they managed to extricate themselves and the green pounced on the nearest food to her. The blue seemed to be confused by the number of hands offering food to him, so finally the flit dashed into the crowd and ran right into Jo’than’s hand. The little blue’s claws scraped at his fingers as he scrambled to get the meat and Jo’than quickly supported the hatching. The little blue looked up at him and chiriped, and the man felt the bond of impression between himself and the flit.

So Ake now has a playmate, lets hope this little scrap of blue can keep him occupied? Levoth sounded pleased, So what will you name him? Jo’than looked the small hatchling over… hmmm what would he call the little critter. “I’ll call you Riptide, how’d you like that,” he asked the flit, the blue chiriped happily excitement pouring through the new bond between man and firelizard. “Excitable little critter aren’t you.”
