Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Samus's Third Clutch; {{15 Eggs}}

With Thread now a factor in his life again, T'ech had little time to worry about the pregnancy of his gold fire lizard. Wing drills were more intense than they'd ever been before and regular threadfall meant that what little spare time he had, he spent recuperating in the company of his weyrmate or taking care of his dragon. Samus was old enough and experienced enough now to not need constant attention during her clutching process.

Despite Jim's desire for a million new things he claimed they "needed" around their personal weyr, T'ech made no move to collect the fifteen gleaming eggs the large gold laid on her nest on top of the hearth in the dining hall. He'd sold the last clutch and every once in a while, it felt good to give something back to the Weyr. If all he could offer was fire lizard eggs then so be it. They were already being staked out quite greedily by many candidates and riders.

Samus, for her part, was a rather complacent mother this time around. She allowed curious onlookers a close look at her eggs and only lashed out if they tried to touch her eggs. She recruited a small army of bronzes and browns to attend to her needs and generally didn't move from her brooding position for the two weeks it took her eggs to incubate.

It was at breakfast one day in early spring that T'ech finally peeked in on his pet. Thread wasn't falling today and he felt just a tad guilty for not giving Samus any attention lately. He'd been feeding her a treat or two every morning but since she hadn't been joining him and Jim in their weyr, she'd gotten none of the pampering she was used to.

"Mornin' Samus," he cooed to her. She leaned into his fingers and hummed happily as he pet her neck. He sat with the golden flitt, one arm wrapped around Jim at his side and the other showering Samus with the attention that had been denied to her over the last few weeks. As he was finally dozing off on his weyrmate's shoulder, he became aware of the continuous hum. It wasn't just her pleasure, it was the fire lizards all around, Fardles on his shoulder, the alarming number that had begun to gather and pay very close attention to the nest.

T'ech stood and backed away. Not this time. He did not need another bloody fire lizard. "The clutch is hatching!" He called over the din of the breakfast crowd. "Get some meat together or they'll go wild!"

Rebmikh was all too happy to be munching on her breakfast with all the others; she was really starting to like her new home, even though she hadn't had a whole lot of time or reason to be meeting and greeting people just yet. Everyone so far had been rather friendly, and it was such a nice change to be someone important rather than a worthless ol' drudge back where she'd been.

Just as she was moving to take another bite of her food, however, she noticed a change. People started to get up and move around, and someone was yelling something about lizards?

Curiously, she left her food and got up to follow those few first responders that had begun to move toward the sound. If there were lizards in the kitchen, stealing food or whatnot, she could certainly help! In fact, there did seem to be an awful lot of meat changing hands... maybe they had to lure the terrible little beasts away? Were they dangerous?

Well, she certainly wasn't afraid of any lizard! She could help out!

Her usually-placid face set into a look of stern determination, she marched toward where all the fuss was coming from-- and blinked to see a guy tending to a shiny golden dragon. Well... a tiny dragon, anyway. Nothing like massive Adinath that she had played with before. It was a beautiful little thing-- she didn't understand what all the shouting was about.

"What's all this, then? Is there somethin' wrong with that little one?"

Given the reprieve granted between Falls, Sabine had taken her sweet time in waking that morning. It was Pinysith who woke the girl, receiving an unintelligible grunt and a twitch of the bundled furs. The green was absolutely adamant, however, and wormed her way through the tiny rider's sleep-fogged brain.

Fire-lizards, there are fire-lizards! Oh, hurry, they're going to all hatch and fly away. It was Pinysith's pathetic wheedling that finally wore down Sabine's defenses, and with a last aggrieved moan for sleep lost, the dark haired girl crawled her way free of her cocoon with a shiver for dramatic effect. Hands ghosting over her slender arms as a way to drive home the point that she was making sacrifices for this cause (to which Pinysith delivered only a single, blustery snort), the wingrider cobbled together a quick outfit for the jaunt down to the Dining Hall.

She arrived with time to spare, judging by how few were clustered around the source of the excitement. Waving exuberantly to bronzerider T'ech, Sabine sidled up with a cheerful cry to accompany her flapping arms. "Mornin'! Just love the smell of cracking eggs in the morning, don't yoouu?" She felt absolutely no remorse, none; in emphasis, she cooed a greeting to the clutchmother herself. "What pretty eggs!"

While she paid her dues, the greenrider nabbed a few bits of meat from a nearby table, arming herself even as she locked an intense stare on the eggs she felt most likely to bust open first.

Nuin

It was one of those rare times when Nuin fell asleep during the night after some hard training. And ended up wide awake when dawn came. Annoyed to no end over the fact she could fall back to sleep she left Nuin in their room with a promise he wouldn't go out in the sunlight. With most of the people she knew still asleep for the day she wandered around the Hold for a while before deciding to go over to the Weyr. Why not? Might as well go look around the place while the sun was shining. Usually she only ever when to the Weyr when Nuisk didn't want to go eat alone. That of course was during the night.

As she walked by many weyrfolk stopped and stared at her. Most of them had never seen her before seeing as how she kept to the Hold unless told to be somewhere else by superiors. Nuin ignored the looks and just kept meandering around the place. Finally arriving at the Dining Hall when her stomach protested. Quite viciously. "Feck...alright...Time to eat then."

When she went in though she regretted it. It seemed everyone was all excited in the room. What in the world was going on? She could hear the humming of...firelizards? Oh joy. The little buggers that Nuisk was always trying to play with at times. Looking to where the most people were starting to gather she debated going to see. On one hand she wanted nothing to do with all the fuss but on the other she was bored out of her mind and it might be better than her going to find a good fight.

Grunting as she made her decision she snatched up some meat from a bowl that was being passed around by a drudge and moved forward. Who knew...maybe Nuisk would like something to be a menace with. Keep him out her hair right? This had nothing to do with...being nice and giving him a playmate...Shards no. Why would she be that kind to the lump? Grumbling to herself she looked at the gold and her eggs and had to admit they were a pretty good looking bunch. At least they would be healthy.

Muffin

Oh shards oh shards oh shards! He had to fly fast! Leaving his owner and his weyrmate in their room he had went out hunting for a gift for Samus. The beautiful, radiant queen he managed to catch but some strange stroke of luck. After managing to get his claws on a juicy and tasty meatroll he heard the humming from a passing flit. And now was flying hard and fast to get there in time.

Arriving in the Dining Hall Muffin let out a trill as he circled above everyone. Quickly landing a safe distance away from Samus's nest and nudging his gift toward her. Crooning sweetly at the Gold and puffed up with pride seeing the eggs ready to hatch.

Rhias felt a little like death warmed over as she stumbled into the dining hall. There was a steady feeling of nausea clawing at her gut and Jo's persistent happy hum in her ear wasn't helping. She'd like to say her ill health stemmed from a crazy night spent in the weyr of a handsome rider, but in reality she'd just woken up feeling like absolute shaffit.

That didn't stop her from grabbing a cup of klah and wandering over to see the source of the commotion; a stomach ache wasn't going to bring her down, when something interesting could be happening. She grabbed the sleeve of a nearby bronzerider. "What's with the crowd?"

T'ech pulled his sleeve out of the rude girl's fingers but smiled at her. "There's a fire lizard clutch hatching. Why don't you go join the rest of the throng and try to catch one for yourself?"

A fire lizard hatching, eh? Rhias stared thoughtfully at the protective queen and her rocking eggs, considering the former Weyrleader's proposal. She had Jo and he was more than she could have ever asked for. And Aniese had three more that cluttered up the place. But...perhaps one more couldn't hurt?

"Yeah sure," she mumbled. She put a hand to her ailing stomach and pushed into the crowd, rudely finding a place right up front. "Suppose another would be fun. Might spice things up a bit."

You had to eat when the chance arrived, just so happened V’ash had found a moment for breakfast. Between caring for Cedith and his lovable Pip and Dim in the morning the bluerider had a full day before the weyr fully awoke. He liked to put his time into coddling the firelizards when he could. Because when the day truly began he would be up to his neck in candidates and those creatures could be very troublesome indeed. Delightful of course, but not as easy to deal with as a couple firelizards and a dragon. You’re the one that needs caring for. Nearly forgot to go eat until I sent you off.

V’ash shrugged quickly shoveling his meal down his throat. But who’s always there to get that itch you can’t reach? Pip. Really she is quite the companion, now finish with breakfast much to do today. V’ash merely grinned at the dragon’s jib, sure Pip could help with phantom itches throughout the day but the green couldn’t wash and oil the entire dragon as he had to do this morning. “And why aren’t you any help?” V’ash poked at the vibrant green flopped on the table in front of his plate. Dim looked at the utensil prodding her side, and yawned without a care. Then quickly returned to stealing bits for her bonded’s plate when he wasn’t looking. Mid swipe she gave a merp, and turned to look towards the nest. V’ash had noted the collection of eggs guarded by the gold, had considered trying to impress one of the creatures.

As if on cue Dimglow started humming. She turned to look at V’ash, and then quickly peered back at the nest. Pip caught a hint of the excitement then and appeared from between and hovered above her bonded’s head. The two began to hum in sync Dimglow quickly clambering up to V’ash’s shoulder as Pip landed on the bluerider’s head. Their little voices made his head ring, sight nearly shaking from their cacophony. He knew what they wanted then. Normally if there was a hatching they fly off and observe humming all the way. The way they clung to him now and nipped at his ears was pretty telling. Well Cedith, I think the girls want a new friend. V’ash spoke cheerfully taking his plate with its remains and heading towards the rocking nest.

Oh? I would love another! They seem to always perch on your head, I would like one that preferred me. V’ash laughed arriving now at the bustling cluster trying to gain a little one’s attention. Maybe you should try to be more lovable. And fluffy. Cedith snorted, Why the want to nest in that mess you call hair is beyond me. And I am very lovable!

Se'trik. Those eggs you were curious about are hatching now. Garth's words drew his rider's attention even as Se'trik heard T'ech's hollering over the usual rumble of voices during a meal time. Se'trik figured he shouldn't be surprised his friend had noticed his attention wandering to the firelizard eggs, even though he'd never mentioned considering trying for one.

Oh they are. Se'trik smiled at the flash pout coming from Garth. Apparently he wasn't the only one ready for another companion. I suppose I'd best go see if I can be lucky enough to draw one in then. He added, happy today for no reason than it was a good day. He finished his last bite, took care of his dishes, and wandered over to the small crowd around the clutch with his half full glass of klah in one hand. A bowl of meat was quickly placed in his empty hand and he settled in to wait and see if today was his day.

This time instead of admin pixels we have guest pixels done by Fishy! Everyone say thank you Fishy for lovely firelizard pixels

Two eggs split open immediately, their occupants squalling for food. The green was a bright spring color that faded along her body and tail to a darker, mossy green, and left her limbs in a much deeper forest tone. She was dainty in build and carefully picked her way out of her shell remnants, glancing back at her brother and continuing to edge away.

The blue, like his sister, was a mix of colors. He was dominated by a deep harper blue, but along neck and down to tail, it faded to a pale, wintry hue the color of threadless sky. As he slid on a piece of shell and nearly lost his balance, his wings flared open, revealing an intricate pattern of inky swirls on the sails.

He hissed and stumbled, ploughing his nose into the sand. His sister looked on but momentarily became distracted by the pieces of meat being thrust at her. These she surveyed with a mixture of distrust and desire. She was so hungry, but...

Her brother picked himself back up, re-folded his wings, and chattered irritably at her. She ignored him with some disdain, so he flicked his tail at her and rushed the nearest pair of fingers, clamping down on the piece of meat they held.

The green hesitated, but her hunger finally won out, and she too fastened upon the nearest morsel, though she continued to flee the hands that fed her, and it was only with quite a bit of coaxing that she finally consented to being touched.

Aniese slid off her chair and toward the hearth as Cedar and Cirque took off, throats swelling with the hum. Cove remained stationed against her neck, humming loudly as well.

"Another hatching, huh," she said to herself as she drew close. In part she was interested, and in part she was being influenced by her firelizards.

Then she caught a familiar thatch of close-cropped curls and edged her way through the crowd. "Hey," she began, before catching the look on Rhias' face. "...uh, are you feeling okay?" Rhias had been asleep when Aniese woke, and she'd somehow missed her roommate coming to breakfast.

Aniese glanced over at the hearth as the eggs began hatching, but concern for Rhias kept her mostly distracted.

The Good Kind of Crazy
Jo’than was late to the dining hall for breakfast, Levoth had been a little slower than usual in picking out a meal. And with his dragon not on the ledge for a quick trip to the dining hall, the copper rider had to traverse the hallways that connected the rider weyrs to the weyr bowl… he got lost twice, Ake had finally showed him the way out and he had trudged across the bowl to the dining hall. One thing he could say was that he had worked up quite the appetite and had gotten a good work out early in the morning. He walked into the hall to see a commotion at one end.

He snagged several pastries and downed the quickly before he walked over to see what the fuss was about… a clutch laid by a gold firelizard was about to hatch. Ake chirped from Jo’than’s shoulder sending him urges to get nearer to the eggs. To get meat and see if he could acquire one of the hatchlings. “You do want a friend don’t you,” The copper rider said to his pale blue. Ake nuzzled his ear and was humming in time with the other firelizards in the room. The man managed to snag a handful of meat from a passing drudge and made his way along the wall so he could have a closer, abet aft, view of the hatching eggs.
