Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

How far away are they?!
The tray was perfectly balanced upon the tips of her fingers as she moved through the Lower Caverns to the room that Marcius had taken up as his own, Rayna had been more than happy to relinquish the room to him as his headquarters at the Weyr. The Headwoman had not had chance to speak to the Weaver at any length other than greeting him and welcoming him to the Weyr; beyond that they had barely spoken two words to one another. The woman had decided that it was time they got to know one another a little better; after all they would have to work together closely over the Turns and with a Clutch close to being lain upon the Sands there would be Candidates robes to measure and make and the celebrations always required new banners (Rayna had a thing for colour co-ordination, all banners had to be in the colours of the parents during Hatching Celebrations) to be made. They would need to know one another better so that the man could fit in with Rayna's schedule and her well working Kitchens and Caverns.

Shard It All sat upon her shoulder, quiet for once in her life, content enough to sit there humming away while Hers did whatever it was she needed to do. The Fire Lizard liked to go out and about, she liked to make new friends too and she had a feeling that this trip would mean more friends. Rayna knocked upon the man's door, eyes flickering swiftly to the tray to make sure that no Klah had spilled from the jug and that all the food was perfectly balanced. And then she waited, after all it was only polite to be invited inside.

Marcius was resting his eyes when the knock came- not dozing, he felt the distinction was important- a necessary evil, since so much of his work involved constant focus on fine detail, and if he tried to force the issue and continue work when his eyes had gone tired and strained... well, the results were never good. His pose couldn't quite be mistaken for sleeping, though- what with one elbow on his worksurface and the other hand idly rubbing one temple.

The room, while far from spotless, was at least tidy- various cloths and garments sorted in various baskets and stacks, all neatly folded, and the masterweaver's tools all carefully set out or packed away as the case might be. The weaver's current project was evident- a pile of hides of varying ages lay stacked or spread across the surface of his combination desk/work surface- the previous Master-in-residence's records of measurements, supplies, and other myriad notes, often disjointed, annotated or patchy. Despite their dubious purport, Marc felt honorbound to go through them all one way or another, and sort or ditch them as necessary. A tiny blue form lay balled up snugly in a nearby basket full of assorted fabric scraps- normally designated for use as patches or color swatches, currently Shimmy's nest until he deigned to select another- which was often.

He was just debating if he'd given it enough time, when a knock on the door startled him out of his reverie. Pale grey eyes flicked open and Marcius winced slightly as the well-lit room's illumination hit him before he could adjust. "Come on in." he called, rotating his shoulders, straightening up and running a hand through his hair to try and smooth it down a little. Didn't hurt to give at least the appearance of professionalism. Somewhat, anyways. The tiny blue ball shifted slightly and a miffed cheep issued forth.

Shard It All hummed happily upon Rayna's shoulder, the Green swaying on her woman's shoulder as she danced to some sort of internal music or other. Who knew what the Green could hear, who knew what was going on in her head half of the time. The woman glanced at her Fire Lizard and sighed heavily, the name suited the creature, it pretty much explained her anyway, and it had certainly been Rayna's opinion on her when the Green had chosen the Headwoman unexpectedly. Rolling her eyes as Shards began to chirp and hop from one foot to another. "Some days I wonder whether there's anything in that head of yours girly." The woman snorted, chuckling as the Green opened her eyes and rubbed her head against Rayna's cheek lovingly. "Dimglow." She chuckled, kissing the Green's head.

Once the invitation was given to enter Rayna expertly opened the door while holding the tray straight so that nothing fell off or overbalanced. Closing the door behind her she turned to the man inside and bowed her head to him. "Greetings Marcius. I hope that I am not interrupting you at all." She said in her usual expressionless tone as she moved across the room and settled the tray upon his desk in front of him. "I thought you could do with some food and drink and maybe a little rest from your work. I know how busy you have been. Did you arrive two days ago from the Hold? I'm sure I saw you come in but I'm not sure I saw you leave this room after that." She smiled slightly and sat opposite him. "I thought I might take this opportunity for us to get to know one another a little better. We will be working closely in the next few weeks with a Clutch due on the Sands so I thought we might as well take this time to speak. While we can." She snorted, keeping a close eye on Shard It All who was already beginning to get restless.

The Green hopped from one foot to another until finally she began to crawl down Rayna's chest to her lap, chirping as she moved. She looked up at Marcius and gave a cheerful cheep to him before spotting the Blue Fire Lizard. That was when she really got loud. With an excited trill she hopped off Rayna's lap and glided over to Shimmy, humming happily at the other Fire Lizard. "Dimglow." Rayna muttered fondly.

((ooc: by the timeline I roughly sketched out when I posted for Iverly, Marc probably arrived a sevenday or two before the clutch was laid. obviously that's not particularly clear with the timey-wimey shenanigans around here, so no worries :P))

Marcius looked up and smiled as Rayna entered, inclining his head deferentially for good measure. He hadn't interacted with the headwoman very much yet, but what little he had seen was impressive- such individuals, in his experience, ran their areas of purview just as well or better than any holder he knew. "You're a lifesaver." he informed her gratefully as he noticed the tray a touch belatedly and smelled the klah. "And sure, I'd relish the distraction." he acknowledged wryly, eying the faded documents with some asperity. Hatching related stuff was more pertinent at the moment anyways- luckily he'd gotten a head start on making sure the candidate Hatching robes were ready, and they mostly needed one more look-over. He quickly collected the hides, got them in some sort of order and set them to the side, as well as gently nudging Shimmy's basket to the side a little (earning an irritated meep from the blue at even this gentle shifting), clearing a space for Rayna to sit if she wished.

Meanwhile Shimmy, who had noticed the food before even Marc had, wiggled and uncurled from his warm nest to peer over the edge, chirping curiously. The young blue's eyes whirled at the visitor, then even faster as he noticed another firelizard in his domain- but with typical flit flightiness, his gaze reverted to calm blue-green within a few seconds and he perched precariously on the edge of the basket, whistling inquisitively at the little green.

((Haha, I guessed as much, best way anyway!))

The woman nodded back in return; he was a good man this one, she had figured that out soon enough, as with everything and everyone she had checked his references -Rayna liked to know who she was working with, she liked things to run smoothly and change didn't always help with that, thankfully Marcius did not shake things up in a way others might have done. The Headwoman chuckled at his statement and poured the man some Klah before pouring her own. "My apologies for the state of some of the records; since my arrival I've been trying to get them re-written for the convenience of the other Masters who use them from time to time. However the venture has been rather extensive; if you do wish for some assistance however I know of a couple of good workers who could help you with it all, myself included when I have time of course." She took a sip of her Klah and sat back in her chair.

Shard It All hummed happily at Shimmy, wings fluttering against her back. She stretched out her neck to her Blue brother and chittered at him. She wanted to be friends!

Watching the exchange the woman sighed slightly, why in Faranth's name had she been burdened with this dolt?! "How are you finding Vaioa? I do hope you've settled well enough, I do apologise for not having more time to spend with you. before now."

Marcius accepted the klah with a murmur of gratitude, taking a sip to help clear his head of any lingering muzziness. "Don't worry about it, I know your time is valuable." the tall man assured Rayna earnestly in response to her concerns. "Doubly so with the Hatching coming up, yeah? The old master left things in reasonably good order; I've had nothin' worse occur than occasionally taking a wrong turn around the Weyr." And bumping his head a few times, and falling asleep at his desk on other times- but that wasn't worth mentioning, and was no one's fault but his own. In any case, the easygoing master would never demand time of anyone despite his rank, let alone someone of so essential a station as Headwoman. "No complaints from my quarter at all."

He chuckled awkwardly and glanced at the old hides. "Couldn't hurt, but you don't need to prioritize it, I'd say. Most of the information is out of date in these older hides- old measurements and supply notations- but I figured it wouldn't hurt to see how he and his predecessors handled things, to an extent. Other things are more important." he noted with a self-conscious shrug, ducking his head slightly.

Meanwhile, the young but canny Shimmy considered the friendly green with a species of head-tilted bemusement for a moment, then chirped, waggled his wings briefly and stretched out his head in a reciprocating gesture, pleased enough to make a new friend as well.

The woman let out a snort of amusement as the man took a sip of his Klah and visibly relaxed, she didn't blame him, she felt much the same way herself of an evening when all the main meals were over. She dismissed his comment with a wave of his hand and a small smile twitched at the corners of her mouth. "Time is something I have rarely at the best of times, Hatching or no Hatching. Sadly I am short a Head Cook which has all but doubled my workload." She chuckled a little and nodded. "I studied a blueprint of the Weyr before my arrival. I like to be one step ahead. I made the mistake of not knowing where I was early on in my years - some staff who did not take kindly to my arrival sent me deep into the Hold and it took me a while to find my way back. Needless to say I learnt that lesson swiftly and ensured it would never happen again." And it hadn't. Rayna was no fool and she certainly wasn't slow; she knew that not everyone liked her straight forward attitude but in truth she did not care.

"Don't sell yourself short. I understand how important your own job can be and I accommodate any Master within my Caverns. If you need anything at all I would ask that you search for me and ask, it is my duty as Headwoman. That and I am a stickler for things running smoothly... Always have been." She sipped her Klah and raised an eyebrow at the sound of wings by her ear. A sudden weight lay across both her shoulders and a flash of brown told her all she needed to know. "Curiosity get the better of you my boy? I'll forgive you this once." She snorted as she stroked Watcher's head. Ordinarily he would have remained in the kitchens, but with Seeker still on guard she could remain confident that there would be no trouble in her absence. And how could she blame her lizard for wanting some affection? "I've heard many good things about you from other Masters. I'm glad to have you here."

The weaver fought to not wiggle uncomfortably under the possibly-undeserved praise, hiding any signs he couldn't immediately quash with another sip of klah- though it didn't entirely displease him, either. The news that other Masters had spoken of him at all, let alone spoken well, surprised and tickled him just a bit. "I'm glad- and honored- to be here." Marc replied, smiling. "I know you were expecting a second master to support the first, not for the first to pass on and you get the new one alone..." he added, ducking his head slightly. "But you have my word that I'll give everythin' I've got here- but that said, I'll understand if you at any point feel the need to contact the Hall and reach a different accommodation."

Meanwhile, Shimmy looked up from exchanging greetings with the green, eyes whirling again as a second firelizard- this time a bigger one- entered His Room, as he thought of it. He gave a low, uncertain warble, fluttering his wings slightly and shifting his little feet on the edge of the basket he was perched on.

"Well I'm happy to hear that. One Master, two. So long as they're as efficient as you have proved to be I am not bothered by their number." The woman said simply. Snorting she sat back in her seat and allowed Watcher to crawl into her lap where she could stroke him better. "I do not believe that I will have any need to call upon your Hall at any point during your appointment here Marcius. You fret too much; I say what I mean and I believe that the Weaver's appointed the right Master to take over for us."

Shard It All chirped at Shimmy, hopping up beside him and humming. Her big brother would do no harm, Watcher was good, he just watched everyone to make sure that there was no trouble! Settling beside the Blue she yawned slightly.

Marcius grinned and ducked his head, feeling awkward. "I appreciate it." he replied sincerely, trying to curb the feeling of a child singled out- even positively- by a teacher in a room full of spectators, though no one was watching but the three little firelizards. "So, I think preparations on my end for the Hatching are about done, unless you have any concerns? Or do you have any thoughts as to projects I should focus on for after it's done?" he inquired of the headwoman.

Shimmy peered at the green and the brown with a doubtful mien, but his eye facets did slow their whirling (at least somewhat), and he folded his wings back, affecting disinterest. Marcius chuckled to see the firelizard's dramatics. "Seems they're getting along okay..." Which was a relief; Shimmy could be a pest when he felt like it. Which was often. He'd been seeming more well-behaved at the Weyr than at the Southern Boll crafthall, though; maybe the other flits were teaching him manners (or respect?)
