Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

"The time has come." Lena was all but rubbing her hands together with excitement, voice lowered dramatically in a way that would have had Zachary groaning if he could have heard her. Golden eyes looked at the small group gathered around the table, noting that her fellow adventurers had gathered as she'd requested. Well, somewhat. There had been the ones that were as excited as the redhead to go on these campy game quests and some that had been cajoled, flattered, or downright badgered into accompanying them so they didn't get in over their heads.

Invariably, everything Lena did got her in over her head unless there were cooler heads involved. For a girl nineteen Turns old, you'd have thought she would have had more sense! Lena always scoffed and mentioned that one day she'd sprout sense, coincidentally around the same time she sprouted a dragon after a Hatching. They could come talk to her then!

"I, my friends, have been tasked with a quest." Triumphantly she flourished the piece of hide that she'd painstakingly flourished the details on, only a few blots showing where she'd messed up the curls. "This bounty is for a treasure located deep in the Lower Caverns, a place which is only rumored to exist. In this fabled treasure room is located a bottle which holds priceless liquid." Or, you know, really aged fellis that was rumored to be locked away downstairs in an old storeroom.

Details, details! Pesky things.

"It's a journey fraught with danger but the rewards are high!" Or nonexistent. "Will you accept this quest, my fellow questers?" One of these days someone was going to tell Lena that she was ridiculous and this was all a bit of a theatrical waste of time, but they weren't that far yet. She was going to live it up while she could!

Pirri shifted his weight left and right uncomfortably. He was sitting in a room with two other women, preparing to go on a mad adventure that would definitely lead to trouble. Somehow, though, he needed it. Pretending to be someone else, especially a heroic adventurer, bold as brass and strong as an ox, was the most fun he could have. He didn't know what he'd do without his imagination! Pirri peeked at the paper Lena had drawn up as she waved it around. She always put so much effort into fun. He admired her for that, but at the same time her brazen attitude made him turn to Raisa and rolled his eyes dramatically.

"So," he cleared his throat, still awkward around the two Candidates as he was sure he always would be, "We have a quest to seek out a precious relic with potential fantastical properties?" Pirri gave a small smile, feeling his heart swell and warm as he took to his more heroic persona. It was easy to be courageous when you were being someone else. If it weren't for the distraction of the fun of the adventures, he wasn't sure he'd be able to spend so much time around the small group.

Pirri rose from his chair and hesitantly placed his shaky hands on his hips, trying to look confident and strong. "Aye," he spoke clearer, gaining confidence, "I will aid thee on this quest!"

She still wasn’t entirely sure what had led up to her sitting here, at this table, keeping company with people who were, perhaps, not entirely possessed of their Faranth-given sense. To her credit, Raisa sat through Lena’s overblown rallying speech without a single facial tic to give away unsettled feelings churning just beneath the surface, and politely sought to drain the last of her juice when Pirri shakily stood and threw in his support of this hare-brained scheme.

Setting down her mug, oh, excuse her, ‘tankard,’ with a little more than recommended force, the stocky woman rose to her feet. First order of business was a more thorough study of Lena’s lovingly scribed decree. When that afforded her no better grasp of just what these two had in store, Raisa’s hands planted themselves on her hips as her questioning gaze slid from Lena, to Pirri, and back again. No? There was no way to convince them, was there.

Well, that left her with two options. Either she could give it all the shrug and let them fall to peril – or she could throw herself to the loony bin. Looking decidedly undecided on the matter, Raisa scowled at her mug before exasperatedly rubbing her face, sighing deeply. “I’m coming, not like I have a choice.” Her choice had been made before this very meeting – endure Lena’s badgering for an indeterminate period of time, or this.

…at least these two weren’t smarmy egg-suckers like some Candidates she knew.

Understanding why it was that Raisa didn't really have a choice, Lena was utterly unapologetic about it. The young miner woman was the perfect sort of thing that they needed: large enough in build, strong enough in muscle, that they weren't going to have to wiggle their way into small places for the 'adventures'. Small, tight places terrified Lena, unfortunately at odds with the fact that she was perfectly sized to be asked to go into those places. Her personality might have been larger-than-life but the girl herself was decidedly not.

Pirri's enthusiasm and archaic speech warmed her heart despite the roll of eyes, her urge to hop up and grab him with delight was just barely checked. That was one of those things she was working on, respecting personal space. It was definitely a work in progress. Reaching down under the table the Candidate grabbed the knob-ended 'staff' that was her badge of office as their 'guild leader' and brandished it exuberantly.

"We have undertaken this quest and by the First Egg, we will complete it! This is our sworn oath. We cannot fail!" Hesitating for a moment she broke character, squinching her nose up slightly with a sigh. "Unless, of course, it's bedtime first. Being caught out of bed really isn't worth the glory of the quest, yanno?"

Bending back over the scrap of hide she'd doodled up that morning Lena wondered what in the world she'd been trying to draw. "What in the...mm." Nope, wasn't going to admit that she'd messed up! That was not how to inspire faith in her as a leader! Snatching it back up off the table it was stuffed into her jerkin pocket, a curt nod. "We need to start off in the hallway off the storerooms, seeing if we can find anything good." Her staff was brandished again, Lena leading the way with a spring in her step.

This was way too fun!

Pirri's face glowed with a rare beaming smile as Lena checked out her own map and looked puzzled. Even she was confused, it would appear. Everything appeared to be going exactly as he thought it would. Lena got out her leader's staff and Pirri felt the need to check his supplies yet again. Belt knife, check, he patted it on his side, glad for it's help in protecting him from villainous tunnel snakes. Numbweed, check, bandages, double check, suture kit, check. You never knew what would go horribly wrong on these adventures, and having more healer experience than the others (since his chores were based in the infirmary) he was deemed the team healer. He also had access to all the healer supplies thanks to his chores, which he sincerely hoped none of the higher ranked healers would miss. Finally, Pirri checked to make sure he still had the snacks he had obtained from the kitchens... but apparently not. He must have eaten them subconsciously on his way here. He pouted slightly, but was still prepared nonetheless.

"Indeed, lady Lena!" Pirri said with more vigor this time, "The wrath of the Candidate Master is not a thing one takes lightly." Being caught out after curfew definitely was not on his 'to-do' list. Lena declared their path, their first move, and Pirri actually came close to laughing. Not quite, though. Their brave and noble quests were never as adventurous as they felt, but shaffit were they ever fun.

Lena lead the way, and Pirri moved to follow, but stopped at the door. He bowed to Raisa and indicated out the doorway. "After you, my lady Raisa!" A knight was always gentlemanly and courteous!

Raisa was unsure whether she should be laughing or bemoaning her ill fortune. The third member of this party of theirs was rolling his eyes in commiseration one second, then just like that his tune was changed and he was babbling in the same strange tongue as their self-elected leader. Electing to hold fast to her disapproving silence, Raisa continued to massage one temple wearily as Lena produced her knobby staff of office; her comment about not striking out past curfew was a slight relief – it meant she wasn’t so addled that her actions would land them all in irreversible trouble with the Master.

Still, Raisa felt distinctly uncomfortable about Lena being in charge. And the way she regarded that map of hers it was like watching a fire-lizard trying to read a Healer’s scratchy attempts at handwriting. You’d have better luck putting lip stain on an angry, brooding gold. But before Raisa could filch either map or staff, Lena was marching and Pirri was grandly gesturing for her to precede him, titling her Lady which made Raisa’s face flush with embarrassment. “Get out there.” Flustered, the woman pointed and half-demanded that Pirri haul butt out into that hallway, before he said anything beyond redemption.

Falling behind the (also smaller) boy, Raisa brought up the rear of the party. While she was tempted to linger back there, her desire to avoid disaster was a stronger force. So when the opportunity offered itself, Raisa sped up to close the short distance between herself and Lena, plucking the staff from her hands and lofting it over her own head to prevent the other girl from snatching it back. “If I’m going to be doing this, I’ll be leading.” Those were her conditions, and Raisa opened an expectant hand for Lena to hand over her map. First things first – to see where she planned to lead them.

Pirri was currently the redfruit of Lena's eye. She could deal with all the eyerolling if he played along, which he was almost always good for. Raisa, however, was currently on the end of a glare that should have struck the miner dead where she stood if it weren't for the fact that there was nothing remotely supernatural about the werybrat. Arms extended up over her head, trying to reach the staff where it was lofted in the air, but all that did was make her look ridiculous.

Lena, looking ridiculous? What else was new? So she jumped once, then twice, finally sighing with incredibly exaggeration and handing over the hastily-penned 'map' from inside her vest with reluctance. Next time she was going to write it in code. Code that only she could understand! Yet when Raisa started to look at the map, no doubt utterly confused by the markings that the redhead had to admit to herself weren't all that clear to begin with, she had a revelation. If Raisa were the leader, carrying the map and staff, didn't that make her the perfect warrior-tank? Didn't that mean that their reluctant warrior was becoming involved in the process rather than tagging along?

This was a blessing from Faranth in disguise! The reluctant warrior was now the leader! The glee radiating from Lena at that point was probably decidedly untrustworthy but what could they do? They were there now. So instead she just tried to link arms with Pirri, smiling broadly. "Lead on, mighty warrior!"

((OoC: Sorry I'm so slow, busy and whatnot. ;-; FORGIVE ME, MAIDENS!))

When Raisa refused his offer of being gentlemanly, he hung his head and blushed, then rushed out the door to follow Lena. So much for trying to be chivalrous! Then again, Raisa could probably throw him pretty far, while he had troubles lifting anything at all. He shuffled quickly to catch up to Lena, checking behind him to make sure Raisa was keeping pace. Before he knew, Raisa had snatched the staff from her and was demanding control of the party. That was fine with Pirri; if their leader was less eccentric then this whole adventure would work out much better. Probably. He hoped.

Watching Lena try to reach for the staff was hilarious, he was trying to repress a smile so as not to offend her for looking so foolishly silly. Her sudden change in attitude about Raisa taking over made Pirri uneasy though... what was she plotting in the back of her mind now? The map was the only part of this Pirri really felt unsure about, hence why he had rolled his eyes. If they followed her homemade map, they'd surely get lost in the lower caves some how.

Lena hooked arms with Pirri. Lena then hooked arms with Pirri; she was far too happy, bouncy and female for being this close to Pirri. He tried to keep distance between them without relinquishing his arm. That wouldn't be chivalrous at all, would it? The women were bolder, braver, and much more useful than he was. He at least had to act a little manly! Inside his head he was pouting, but he tried not to show it. Though his face had already turned a brilliant red colour by now. "I-I-Indeed, R-Raisa." He tried to maintain his fanciful tone, but the nervousness made him struggle to be loud and heroic sounding. "L-Lead on!" He was focusing his eyes entirely on Raisa, as though his whole world was centered on following her. He was just trying really hard not to seem like this whole linking arms this was uncomfortable for him, but making others uncomfortable was more than likely not the best way to deal with it...

Shrugging off Lena’s exuberance with a mild wince, Raisa was momentarily absorbed in the scribbles dominating the parchment that the red-head had produced on demand. The burly woman’s face morphed through a great many different expressions, ranging from puzzlement to frustrated bafflement. Maybe she was reading this upside down, or sideways. Other way, at an angle – REVERSED?

No? No. The blotted lines and shaky outlines were as indecipherable as ever, and Raisa thrust the failed map in Lena’s direction with an extremely cross expression. “Is this even PERN?” Jabbing at a demonstrably alien looking smudge with a thick finger, Raisa scowled at the smaller woman. Raisa wouldn’t put it past the pint-sized wonder to have drafted something for the joy of confusing her. There was no putting anything past Lena, she was on to her!

Without a reliable map, it was up to Raisa to decide where this little jaunt of theirs wound up. That’s probably for the best. Hefting her newly obtained staff of office, Raisa shot an indiscernible look at both Pirri and Lena, their arms linked in unification. Not to Pirri’s satisfaction, judging by that wall-eyed look in his eyes. “…come on.” Taking a page out of the lone boy’s book, Raisa’s eyes were rolling heavenward before she turned and began trekking down the long hallway. The wheels in her head turned frantically as she rifled through her list of plausible sites for this adventure of theirs to take place. Someplace that wasn’t going to jeopardize any hard work she’d already put into cleaning and organizing these rooms.

…well, there was that one storeroom. “Hope you two are ready for some work.” She couldn’t really help but smirk as the plans settled into place. They hadn’t any snares, but she had her belt knife and by the looks of it Pirri did, too. Raisa had also seen the boy toting healing supplies. Shouldering the staff like an exceptionally knobby club, the woman led them further into the belly of the Lower Caverns, slowing to a halt in front of a room whose door was suspiciously barricaded with a rather heavy looking, squat crate. “Here we are.”

The map thrust back at her was actually a blessing in disguise, for as much as she didn't want to have that responsibility of leadership thrust back at her it allowed the young woman to disentangle herself from Pirri gracefully. Some discomfort was considered to be a part of life and she didn't mind causing minor discomfort to people she considered her friends if they were all having a good time. The way his eyes had nearly rolled out of his head, trying not to vibrate like a plucked harp, had told her everything she needed to know that he was also a No-Toucher. Being best friends with Zac, who was the epitome of No-Toucher at times, had taught her a few things about that.

Yet it couldn't stop the slight pout around her mouth as, plaintively, she tried to point out the landmarks to Raisa. "It's the Weyr. See, this is the Sands, and then our barracks are here..." Ooookay, Raisa was certainly not interested. "Well, you know, maybe you're just not skilled in reading the runic notations of the Ancients. It's nothing to worry about! I am, thankfully, skilled in all forty-seven types of Ancient runic languages and can decrypt their hidden messages to us without trouble. That is, after all, why you have brought me!" Never mind that these excursions were her idea! Raisa was large and now she was totally in charge.

The storage room they were led to had her all but vibrating with excitement. "Excellent job, mighty warrior! You've led us to a fathomless cave of mysterious treasure. I'm sure we shall easily find our priceless quarry within!" Eyes gleaming mischievously, hands rubbed together in the age-old sign for greed. "Or at least something to make our trouble worth the while, eh adventurers?" Count on Lena to give anything a good spin! Grandly gesturing she gave the most exquisitely-pleading eyes up at the 'mighty warrior'.

"Lead on!"
