Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

The day had been loud, busy, and very stressful for Jessa. She had slept in for the first time in a while and had missed her alone-time in the morning. Then she had been running around all day long, feeding Masus, doing chores, going to lessons, and now that it was the free time of the evening she had slipped away from the other candidates. She had retreated to a place she had frequented often, a nearly empty store room that no one seemed to mind her sitting in with a few glows while she sketched or just played with Masus. Tonight she just sat in the near dark with the humming flit letting the peace of the quiet room.

Connar hadn't had the best day, but then again was that anything new? Last time he'd sat in the candidate's barracks he'd managed to sleep but not till Nikka's deadglow gold had thunked him on the head with that stupid trinket and he'd ended up in the infirmary with cuts from his own firelizards. They both, were asleep, thank faranth, so now it was just finding a place that the gold's sights wouldn't be set on him as her next target.

He'd hidden in the storage room before, trying to get a bit of shut eye without being in his room, and one night even sleeping there when his flits wouldn't quiet down. He'd hidden a couple furs in there previously for such a purpose. Resigned to try and get a bit of sleep, the likes of which was so rare for him to find. Going in at first he didn't even notice the girl sitting with her flit. Not until he almost tripped on her heading for his stashed furs. "Jays!" He stumbled back in surprise, the glows mixed with his tired eyes were working against him, but at least he didn't have to deal with the awkward situation of having fallen...on her. Just great...he'd have to figure another place to keep away from the general younger population in the barracks. Rubbing his face he started for the exit grumbling.

Jessa had been nearly asleep when she was startled awake by the exclamation. “I’m so sorry I didn't know this was your quiet place as well.” she stammered out trying to stand up and causing Masus to sink his claws into her shirt to keep from tumbling into the furs. She remembered seeing the other candidate a few times, normally with a gold flit harassing him. The flit belonged to a different candidate, and Jessa had always wondered why the girl hadn't taken her flit in hand. Masus was still young but he was quick to come back to her if he got in trouble. Her flit clambered to her shoulder chirping an apology for the holes he had left in her shirt. She rubbed Masus’ small head and quickly assured him that she forgave him.

Pausing before he had reached the curtain he sighed. Looking back towards the girl and the chirping of her flit. Moving back slowly so as not to stumble on anything he crouched down. Reaching into his leather pouch on his belt he withdrew a small bit of dried meat, offering it to the girl. His own silent apology for startling her flit. "Watch out, last time I startled my flits I ended up in the infirmary with cuts to my sides and chest. Not pleasant... but they can be good pets...on good days." He tried to give her a small smile. "You don't mind if I hang out in here a bit? I need to get away from the general population."

Standing he rubbed his face again waiting for her answer. Course if she did there was going to be the slight awkwardness of him trying to remove his furs from just a little behind the woman behind a crate.

Masus chirped and his eyes focused on the bit of dried meat, he gave Jessa a piteous look she smiled at her flit and held out her arm so he could climb down and take the bit of meat that was offered. “You’re going to get fat with all you eat.” She scolded gently. She then looked up at him, “He’s only given small scratches, he is very good about not digging in.” The flit scampered back up to her shoulder happily chewing on the bit of meat as he held it with one forepaw. “I don’t mind, I come here when I need to get away too.” Jessa rubbed a little sleep out of her eyes and sat back down on the furs she had brought in a few weeks ago.

He loved firelizards, all firlizards...exception being Aequitas. So was the tiny bronze make down to the the strip he couldn't help but smile. Glancing at the girl as she spoke of only tiny scratches. Moving to work at the leather vambrace on his arm. "That was the same for me but I learned my lesson and a pretty bad visit to the hold infirmary after my boys started fighting over who got to land on my arm. Just make sure once your brown figures out where to settle as his favorite perch you keep it well enough padded." He nodded, the vambrace coming off to show a large scar curling around his for arm.

He nodded his thanks, stepping around her to grab and draw out his own furs, setting them a bit away from her and groaned as he sat. Rubbing his face as he worked his furs into a comfortable position, leaving one for putting over him.

((actually Misty, Masus is a bronze not a brown ^-^ ))

She winced, “I’m glad I only have Masus, he’s enough for me.” She rubbed the young flit’s head gently, he was growing but he still had a long way to go. She would have to think about getting arm guards for when Masus reached his full size, judging from the size of his parents the bronze had the promise to be huge. The little flit crooned happily, Jessa was startled to see a dry patch on his back. With the summer heat in full force she had needed to oil his hide much more often. I’m glad for the practice, the young woman though as she pulled a small jar of a near cream-like oil out of her satchel and rubbed the stuff over the flits back. She looked at his furs, “Do you sleep here sometimes?” she asked as he settled down on the floor.

"You've got to enjoy them while their little and don't do so much damage." He chuckled grimly. Shaking his head slightly in recalling how happy he was to get himself two eggs and managing to take care of the two flits that came from them, handful though they be. Watching the girl and her flit with a bit of longing. He did really adore having a young firelizard around. Perhaps he could get another if he trained up Kayic to be better behaved and not hiss or attack.

"Occasionally. I'm not the best at managing to get a good rest..." He groaned again laying himself down on his back, but not pulling the furs over him yet. "Just be happy your flit doesn't have a companion that likes to tussle loudly." He chuckled once more. Those two gave him so much trouble but he wouldn't do anything but give them the best care he could manage without spoiling them silly.

When Jessa finished rubbing the oil into Masus’ hide, the young flit chittered happily and moved up to her shoulder so he could glide over to Connar he landed next to him and chirped. He was always curious to meet new people and he liked the young man, he had given Masus a treat. “He’s a curious little bugger though,” Jessa said with a smile, “He gets in and out of things faster than I can stop him. He’s also learning how to open buckles and he likes to explore pouches.” She watched as Connar lay down on the furs. She was glad that her flit slept when she did or at least kept quiet.

Hearing the chirp of the young bronze, closer to Connar than when he last sounded. Glancing over at him a small smile brushed over his lips at how brave the little thing was. He was still young and growing, and the other candidate seemed to be taking very good care of him, or so Connar could tell in the lighting. "That is better than a log of a flit who'd rather lay back and get fat." He mused. Reaching back to his belt till he felt this pouch. Retrieving another small scrap he tossed it to the bronze. Almost as big as Kayic, who was a relatively small blue and this was still a immature firelizard, he had the promise of being big.

He felt a sudden hard thump on his chest, winding him in surprise at the unexpected weight from no where. He hardly needed to look when the hiss met his eyes. Kayic had his chest puffed out and his wings flared. Eyes roiling at the other firelizard that was taking his food. Connar groaned, they'd woken and found him...great, just great... Orriver was climbing his side, wanting to get a look at this other firelizard, being the charmer of the group and the most social.
