Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

"Oh come on, Sonic. You know how doors work, right? Just... pop to the other side and open it up for us, all right?"

Maybe it is closed for a reason. Besides, why do you want to muck around in there when there is plenty of Weyr to explore out here?

En'sil cast a glance down the hall, though his dragon was reclining in her weyr several layers up on the cone and not out on the Council Room ledge. "Oh come on. It's a Records room. I like Records. Besides, isn't it a public room? Why's it blocked off, then? Maybe I'll be helping somebody who's trapped." He stared at the wooden door impeding his passage, almost as if his intense gaze could burn a hole through it. The blue firelizard perched on his hands whrrred forlornly, at a loss.

"Well, then," the greenrider gave the flitt a little toss to get him airborne. "I'll show you. See, you just got to get this bit to turn, and then I'll shove like this-"

To his surprise, the door was not actually locked. Someone had merely shoved something against it, maybe a chair or a couple boxes of Records. Enough to hold the door against a usual effort, but nowhere near sufficient to hold against his entire weight. The door flew open with a crash and En'sil tumbled head over heels to land on his back.

"...That did it!"

You idiot! What was that? Are you hurt?

"No, no... I'm fine, don't fuss." The greenrider sat up, only to catch the astonished gaze of another man halfway out of his chair across the room. "Oh hello! I'm En'sil. Pleasure (nngh) to meet you."

[size0](Silence in the Library? You are the actual best. And poor Sonic. He's no good with wooden doors.)

O'dais sat up in shock, hands coming up to rest on either side of his head. My records! he thought in disbelief as he watched them, in slow-mo, as the boxes were first bent and then the precious scrolls, parchment, and hide, tumbled out and were strewn ungraciously on the floor. One slid all the way to hit his foot and O'dais reached down for it, making a small noise of shock as he wiped off the dust it had collected from the floor, and tried in vain to uncrinkle a corner.

He looked up, to see who would have dared interrupt him during his allotted time, the irritation rising quick in the usually temperate and mild-mannered scribe. The stranger had appeared to have tumbled in and landed on his back. He was now introducing himself, quite cheerfully.

En'sil? Who?

Rider of green Ibrillith. Transfer. Peacoth supplied, with the dragon equivalent of a yawn in her headtone. She did not like being questioned when she was sunning with big strapping males. O'dais paused his irritation to call her silly, and then thanked her.

Now back to irritation.

"Look what you've done!" He cried, waving around at the mess. Agape lifted off his shoulder where she'd been resting with a small cry, and Phileo dug in tight and made a sorrowful croon. "I had them all organized! All of them! Oh dear, to think of all the work that you've just undone... I hope, for your sake, they are not--not broken." He attempted to sound threatening but only came off as fretful and worried. "Or crumpled... or wrinkled... or smudged..."

Phileo sorrowed in agreement, but already Agape's flighty attention had moved on. There were new things! Shiny new things! A blue! A new person she had not met! She flittered around them, excitedly.

(I try XD)

"Well, what were they doing on the floor, then?" En'sil retorted, trying not to look stung. He'd probably react the same way if their positions were reversed, but it wasn't like it wasn't fixable. Even the canvas and frame boxes (fascinating! They'd take up less storage space than the wooden bins he was used to) had just collapsed rather than cracking. "Shouldn't take too long to fix, especially if you have twice as many hands, right?" He rolled onto his knees, picking up a hide sheet that had been under him when he fell. It didn't look too bad, just a bit dusty.

"Shouldn't have blocked off the door anyway," he continued as he hauled the box into the middle of the room with the hides and scrolls that were still in it. "What if there was a candle in here and it got knocked over? That's a fire hazard, it is." He squinted at the writing before just dropping it in. It was sort of related to the one on top in there.

Sonic fluttered in, settling on his master's shoulder after a quick check to see if he was all right. Content, he groomed the short hair that crept past En'sil's ears before his attention was caught by the circling green. With a chirp and a buzz, he sprang aloft after her, hoping to lure her into a game of tag.

"Well! They were -- they were on the floor because argh" O'dais floundered, going a little red. "E-everyone knows I have this space until... anyway, you should've have knocked!" He finished weakly, not having much to stand on in the first place. Perhaps he would have been a bit more reasonable, but he didn't do well with surprises anyway and this was his sore spot.

O'dias reached out to grab some of the scrolls even as En'sil took the box and moved it over, sidestepping out of the way unconsciously to allow the rider better maneuvering room through the rather crowded room. "If you could just move it a little over to the side, please? Thanks so much," he said, a bit distracted, as he leaned down to carefully nestle some more pieces of parchment and hide into the protection of his arms.

"A-a fire hazard? I would never leave candles burning," he said, a bit put out.

Apparently his green flitter had begun playing tag with the blue one of the other rider. O'dias checked in with Phileo by habit, but the mopy flitter just sighed, and nuzzled deeper into the corner between his neck and shoulder. It had been worth a shot...

"En'sil is your name, yes?" O'dias said, carefully arranging the scrolls and such on the table, a line of worry creasing into his brow as he muttered over the ones which looked a little damaged. Perhaps he had overreacted. Looking at them now, none had been torn. The scribe breathed a sigh of relief.

"Well, En'sil," he sighed, "I've been informed you just got here, so perhaps you might be excused on those grounds, but I have always, always been allowed my time in here without interruption. You see, when that door is closed," he gestured to it, "most everyone knows not to come inside without knocking. So--so you can imagine my surprise, yes? I didn't assume any one would knock over those piles while I was organizing..."

He glanced at the other man. "Can you read? Quickly?" he asked, abruptly, a glimmer of a plan in his eye.

"Never said you, would be the one bringing it in," En'sil said to appease O'dias' dignity, though internally he was pleased at gaining the upper hand. "And just because something has never happened doesn't mean it never will." And that was enough of that; while he liked to be the one on top and in the know in conversations, he wasn't mean-spirited and had no interest in rubbing it in.

Sonic, meanwhile, had decided that the best version of tag was the one with obstacles involved. He went spinning around En'sil's head and flew off to skim along the shelves, chirping eagerly at his pursuer.

"Of course I can read. Wouldn't have much interest in a Records Room if I couldn't, would I?" The greenrider looked up from the scroll he was holding - this one was older, and the inks hadn't been preserved so well. "As for speed, I've never had somebody tell me I was too slow. I presume this is going somewhere?"

"Any chance you can find his name?" he asked his dragon on the sly.

Not as easily as I assume he found out about us. He's not the new transfer all the dragons are gossiping about. But I'll see what I can do.
