Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Oceth caught Adinath's eyes peering at her through the darkness, My Atlen seems to be able to do the same thing. I wish she wouldn't though, it would cause me much less worry. She shuffled her wings against her back in discontent. I do try to be nice sometimes. Mine is fond of yours, she is glad that it was him who came to her aid, she needed to hear his assurances I think. I just wish I knew where she got this idea that she cannot do what I know she can. She shook her head and snorted.

Atlen couldn't help the heat that spread through her face when L'harl's lips pressed against her cheek, "I'll keep that in mind." She laughed nervously at the suggestion of hitting him. It would probably be her best bet at this point considering how hard it would probably be for him to change his ways.

She listened carefully as he explained why he acted the way he did. Tightening her own grip about him when he hugged her closer. She couldn't help herself, she'd never actually really been this close to a guy before. Sure she'd hugged her fellow harpers who were her long time friends, but they'd never been more than just that and she'd never been practically sitting in their laps while doing so. But while he spoke, things started to make sense to her, she didn't know Kythe well but from what she knew of the girl she respected her for, as she did all her fellow weyrlings and riders alike. Maybe she should talk to Kythe, explain the situation or something. She didn't want to make it seem as though she was trying to put herself between the two of them but if the greenrider knew her brother's reasons for acting the way he did, maybe somehow it could help.

It was a shame that L'harl was no longer close with her, that their mother's death had torn apart their family like this. Atlen had no brothers or sisters, nor did she have a particularly close bond with her mother and father so she couldn't really relate with losing a parent. It would probably be just a small bump in the road. An unwanted and mournful bump but nothing to drastically change her life. Anymore Oceth, Leno and Hetch were the closest she had to having a family. When it came down to it, maybe it was a little sad, but growing up the girl had accepted being on her own for the most part, since before she'd been searched her parents had visited the hall less and less frequently as she'd gotten older.

She smiled shyly up at him when his tirade seemed to have cut off and he looked down at her, "You're welcome. I could maybe talk to Kythe if you'd like, maybe if I got to know her a bit or we became friends she wouldn’t mind so much If I came up and smacked you." She laughed at the image it formed in her head. She couldn't help but wonder what it was about her that seemed to calm the copperider, even make him smile when he didn't seem to do so otherwise. But why her? He'd told her she was special and strong and beautiful but why was it her that made him smile, made him relax when he was otherwise so uptight.

"You're lucky to have her." She spoke to distract herself, "I mean, I don't have any brothers or sisters and I'm not close with my parents, but I'd still hate to lose either of them." She admitted quietly.

How far away are they?!
The Copper flicked his wings and sighed heavily. He knew exactly what Oceth meant; why could their Riders not just come to them when they had problems? Why did they think that they could do everything on their own all the time? They had Impressed, they were Bonded, they were together as one - they were meant to be able to share everything! I agree completely. Maybe now they will realise that not only they can comfort each other but they can rely upon us as well. If the Copper could have smiled he would have done. Sometimes people are not as sure of themselves as we are. I understand why she feels this way. You are so sure of everything, so graceful and determined - to keep up with you is difficult, though I intend to try at least. The Copper rumbled with amusement, he did certainly intend to try.

The sound of her laughter was music to his ears and the lad could not help but smile; she had a beautiful voice and that laugh could light up a room, if people had been around to hear it of course. What was it about Atlen that made him feel so at ease? He hadn't felt like this with... well anyone before this, not for a very long time anyway. He had just poured out all his deepest and darkest secrets to her, something he would never have considered doing with anyone before. No one knew any of these things, he had told no one any of this before. His brothers hated him for the way he treated their sister, his father was disappointed in him because of it but none of them knew his reasoning, none of them knew why he had turned on her... but Atlen did.

Smiling at her he nodded, once again thinking how lucky he was that she understood him and didn't shy away from him when he spoke to her... like most people did. "Do you... do you think that might work?" He whispered, he sounded unsure, it was a side of him no one had EVER seen in his entire life. He laughed, the image of Atlen slapping him causing real belly laughs that caused him to bend over in hysterics. Wiping tears of laughter from his eyes he sat back a bit, still holding her but the embrace was lighter now. He was reluctant to let her go really, he felt so comfortable and at peace like this... Oh I am. I've got two brothers as well. One's a Smith; good at it too, and the other is a Master Harper. Pitted to take over from the current MasterHarper actually, he'd do well at it too. I love my siblings but trust me having them isn't great either... I mean look at the mess I made of my relationships with them all!" He smiled. "At least you have Oceth now, just as I have Adinath. And... well... you have me now too, you know, if you ever need me I mean." He blushed. What in Faranth's name was he rambling on about?!!

Oceth hummed proudly at Adinath's compliments, he always seemed to make the best ones in her opinion. Except for Atlen of course. She couldn't say that she agreed with the copper though, Oceth hadn't known what to do when her rider had started crying. Atlen's helplessness had left her startled and unsure of herself for the first time since Impression. It was a feeling she did not enjoy and she was quite thankful for L'harl's appearance and the calming effect that he seemed to have on her rider. I look forward to it. She huffed softly in laughter.

"I don't know.. maybe? I mean, there's no harm in trying right?" Atlen laughed with him, though she didn't think hitting him was that funny (she didn't hit people usually unless she was angry) but his laughter was encouraging and nothing that she'd heard from the young man before. Sure small chuckles but never full laughter such as this. She held on tighter to him as to not be usurped from where she was sitting until he started wiping his face with his hand. She released her hold but kept a hand pressed gently to his chest, consciously aware of the heat she felt under her fingers.

Her eyebrows raised a bit at how successful his brothers were and she wondered if perhaps she'd ever met his harper brother before if not only seen him. She could understand more why he thought his mother might be disappointed, and perhaps a bit sad that he didn't Impress while she was still alive. She grinned up at him with a shy smile at his offer, "I just might. Y'know with all the drama that Oceth is sure to stir up."

Ah he had pleased her; this in turn pleased him. Adinath hummed back at her in return as he settled more comfortably on his ledge; eyes whirring as he gazed at the Queen. He knew Dragons did not form bonds with others as humans did with one another but that did not mean he did not appreciate beauty and intelligence when he saw it. Oceth was not like most Queens he had interacted with so far and he admired her; when she Rose he would Chase and by Faranth he would fly harder and faster than he ever had in his life in order to Catch her. As much for himself as for L'harl.

No harm in trying at all. By Faranth this girl truly did make him smile... When he stopped laughing he just looked at her; never in his life had he met someone like Atlen before. Sure he'd had a couple of relationships but never anything serious and never with anyone that made him half as happy as Atlen was right now.

"Good." He whispered softly. Suddenly he realised how close they were and at that moment he wanted to lean forward and press his lips to hers. She was beautiful, intelligent and more amazing than she knew... and he wanted her.
Time to leave. Come back to me, no need to do anything rash just yet. You've been close tonight. Leave it at that. Adinath said wisely.
"Atlen it has been a true pleasure this evening but I believe we have neglected our Dragon's for one another long enough. Adi is pining for some attention since I made him worry and I believe that beauty of yours will be doing the same. I will bid you goodnight, for now, and say that I hope you come speak to me again very soon." With this he leant forward and kissed her cheek, close to her mouth and smiled. "Goodnight."

"Yes, goodnight." Atlen breathed, startled by the feeling of his lips on her cheek that left her skin tingling. Her heart yammered loudly in her chest as she stood there stupidly for a moment. A nearby kitchen worker hid a laugh behind her hand at the sight of the wide-eyed Jr. Weyrwoman.

Breathe, Atlen. Jays, he didn't actually kiss you. Oceth rumbled softly, feeling her rider unfreeze and quickly bolt to the doorway into the weyrbowl.

Has it only been obvious to me that he has a thing for you or are you just oblivious? The young queen spread her great wings and dropped into the ground not far from where Atlen stood. Leno landed heavily on his mistress' shoulder, chittering and licking her cheek anxiously. Hetch crooned and clung to Atlen's hair, whining pathetically in worry.

I know, I know Oceth. I just.. don't know what to think.
Then don't think. The young queen nuzzled her rider affectionately, a content hum rising from her chest. Let it be and see what happens. I don't want you to rush into something when you don't know what to think.

"Yeah, you're right." The girl took a deep breath and gently rubbed Oceth's muzzle. Of course I am. Come, let us fly for a while. You're too worked up to sleep anyway and the starlight will do us both good.

Atlen nodded, "Yeah, ok." She scrambled onto Oceth's back, clinging tightly to her dragon's warm hide as they rose into the diamond studded sky. The young queen turned and eyed Adinath's weyr, his eyes had disappeared and she could only guess that L'harl had joined him, probably doing much the same as she was doing for her own rider.

You're fond of Adinath aren't you. Atlen grinned, catching a hint of where Oceth's attention was being drawn. I am. She fell silent a few wingbeats, He is a good male. Small. But good.

Bresaith's mate is small. Atlen quipped, I don't know Atlen-mine. We will just have to see what happens. She spoke gently but drew her thoughts away to focus on the wind under her sails as they rose higher into the night sky.
