Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Lesley walked quietly down the hall, hoping he was in the right place. The Weyr still confused him to between and back and most of the time he only got where he was going by sheer luck. He had learned that he could use Scow to search for him, if he had an image in mind of the person or place he was trying to find. But in this case, he'd never met the man before. So, Les was on his own.

He stroked the bronze's tail idly as he passed one door after another, looking for one that might be labeled 'Masterharper.' After some searching, he found it and smiled a little, relieved by his success. Unlike the Headwoman, the Masterharper wasn't expecting him. So now all he had to do was knock and be polite...

He rapped his knuckles on the door and waited, worrying that he may have knocked just a little too lightly...

Numael definitely did not hear the knocking. He was busy composing something new for the upcoming hatching feast and it was sounding rather good in his opinion but it needed some extra tweaking. He was running out of time, the eggs were due to hatch any day and he didn't want to give the weyr some half-baked effort. He reached for his mug of klah just as Blue started barking that there was someone at the door but left her bark so he could take a sip before setting it down and haul himself out of his chair. "It's alright Boo." he reached down and gave her a pat then grabbed her collar to pull her back to put himself between her and the door.

"Sorry about her." He said when he opened the door and realized it wasn't anyone he recognized, "Please come in. I'm Numael." he offered his hand to shake then gestured to a chair, "Unless you're just lost." he grinned, but the young man didn't look lost to the harper. Blue snuffled Lesley, her eyes wary but wide with curiosity.

The barking took Lesley by surprise. There had been a few canines back at the Hold, but he'd never met one up close. He hoped this one would be friendly.

He stood a bit straighter as the masterharper opened the door. He stepped quietly inside when Numael invited him, keeping his gaze low. He eyed the dog and put a hand on Scow to keep the bronze calm. The firelizard wasn't acting antsy yet, but he'd never been close to a canine before either, so Lesley didn't know what might happen.

"Oh, no, sir. I'm not lost. I came to ask a favor of you, if you're not too busy..." He glanced shyly up at the harper and then toward the man's workbench, hoping he wasnt intruding.

"It's nothing that can't wait for a bit." Which wasn't exactly true, he'd sort of been in a working mode but the young man had been polite enough. He He reached down to pull Blue away from Lesley, the canine was nice but she could be a little much when meeting new people.

"What sort of favor? I will most definitely see what I can do to help you out." hoped that the favor wouldn't be something he'd have to decline, he was busy enough on a daily basis without random people coming and asking him to do menial tasks.

((Ughghgh sorry for forgetting about this. And it's so short. ;_; ))

[no worries <3]

Lesley gazed at the workbench and fidgeted a bit, trying to organize his thoughts. The man said he wasn't busy, but Lesley wasn't blind - or stupid. He was sure the harper was just being polite. He raised his gaze to the man's face, shyly, and opened his mouth to speak, though no words rushed to come out.

After a pause, he said quietly, "I wondered if perhaps I could have some music lessons, sir. I understand if you're too busy...I have a job myself..." He trailed off awkwardly and looked down at the friendly canine, not knowing what else to say. Scow chirped a few times at the man and his dog, waving one wing in a parody of a greeting - a trick Les had taught him.

A grin spread across the harper's face at the young man's request. It wasn't exactly often that youngsters came to him out of the blue wanting to be taught. Most of his apprentices were transferred from the Hall, perhaps a bit unwilling to come to such a harsh climate and until they were use to it they resented just about everything.

He laughed quietly at the being busy with his job comment, "Teaching people is part of my job. It wouldn't be any trouble to give you some lessons." He gestured to a chair for Lesley to sit and pulled his own seat away from his workbench to sit down.

"Now are you looking for an apprenticeship? Or is it just to learn a few tunes or expand on what you already know?" He wanted to know what sort of level the boy was on so he would know what he had to work with. He made a soft noise at blue to call her over, when she did he crossed an arm over his chest, telling her to lay down. She did so with a sigh and he reached down to scratch her ears fondly.

Lesley shook his head hastily, idly fiddling with the collar of his shirt.

"Not an Apprenticeship, sir. I have too much work, and I don't think I'm suited to be a true Harper anyway. I just....I enjoyed learning music when I was a boy. And I thought...it would be a nice thing to explore in my free time."

The young man bit his lips and shifted, hoping this answer wouldn't seem unenthusiastic.

"I know a bit about reading music," he added with a sudden thought. "And I know a few simple drum rhythms...though it's been long enough I don't know if I could remember them perfectly..."

"Well that'll be something to start from at least." Numael nodded in understanding. He had sort of hoped Lesley would want an apprenticeship but he couldn't blame him for taking his work seriously. "I'll get you in a few private lessons just to get you up to speed and figure out what you can do before I place you in with the others."

He wandered over to his desk and rummaged through some hides before pulling out one and frowning at it, "If I have any time, Jays." He grumbled, "Ok how about the day after tomorrow at two candlemarks?"
