Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

It was rather like Raksha to be skulking around in the lower caverns… Okay, so maybe she wasn’t skulking, exactly, but she was indeed exploring! Exploring is what she did most often, it’s what kept her awake at night and had her head filled with all kinds of possible adventures. She wanted to know Vaioa like the back of her hand, and know it she would. If Raksha kept this up, this being snooping around every nook and cranny of the Weyr, then she’d be able to find her way around blindfolded. Well, that might’ve been taking it a tad too far. She liked to think herself an expert at her chosen hobbies, but she preferred to wander with friends. She hadn’t brought any friends along with her today, she was by herself. She felt along the side of the cold stone wall of the lower caverns with an open palm, dragging her hand down the wall as she went along. She did her best to memorize each bump in the stone, though it was impossible to do. Not entirely sure what it was about the structure of a Weyr that fascinated her so, Raksha supposed that she liked how natural it all felt.

The girl much preferred living in the rock faces as opposed to living in either her uncle’s or her father’s house. Houses were comfortable and cozy, yes, but they didn’t have that earthy smell when you wandered on in. No, houses left that all behind, outside their doors. Houses had become somewhat of a confine to her, and she’d never enjoyed being cooped up. When she was younger, she would’ve done anything to explore the mines more often, but her dad wouldn’t hear of it. Every time she even so much as mentioned it she saw how enraged her father got. He’d never been able to understand her wanderlust. At one point she’d considered being a trader, the harper’s told her stories about the traders and how they never really settled in one place. She liked to hear Xiro’s stories, and envied him the life that he’d been able to lead. He’d had freedom, while she’d had rules and boundaries. Well she was stapled to her lessons and chores, the free-time she had was all her own. As long as she enjoyed her lessons and getting to make new friends while performing her daily duties, then what mattered? It was far better than her father’s idea of woman’s work: Staying in the house all day cooking and cleaning. At times she wondered if her mother had even wanted the life she’d led… Maybe she’d known there was something more too, but was just never brave enough to pursue it.

Continuing to travel deeper down into the caverns, her heart rate accelerated. She’d never been this far before, and had had in mind to take Irgin when she did decide to wander on down here. Oh well, there was no turning back now, her curiosity was just downright insatiable.
