Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Mercury Class Weyrling Lesson: Self Defense; Come punch some stuff.

Weyrling

K’lec woke to the feeling of his hand being nudged by Eritoth’s nose. “Huh, what…?” He blinked and looked around, disconcerted, until he realised that he was lying on his bed still fully clothed. I didn’t want to wake you, but I think you said there was a lesson today?
“Shards!” K’lec leapt out of bed and frantically searched for his shoes. How had he fallen asleep? It must have been all the work he had to do, looking after Eritoth. Normally, he coped well but in the last few days he had been overwhelmed with tiredness.

“Are you sure you’ll be alright without me?” K’lec asked his dragon as he paused by the door. Eritoth snorted. Don’t worry so much about me; I’m fine. Go on, you’re late already.

Despite his dislike of running, he nearly sprinted to the lower caverns, and was panting heavily by the time he found the lesson. He slipped in amongst the group, trying his best not to attract any interest, and quickly made his way over to where their teacher was standing. Luckily this was relatively easy, as the others seemed to be in the middle of an exercise and he still hadn’t really gotten to know them very well.
“Sorry I’m late, sir.” K’lec said nervously, his forehead creasing with worry. He really hoped that he hadn’t missed anything. He wanted to learn how to fight and defend himself – perhaps it would give him a little more self-confidence.

Weyrling
K'mor tag: Kari and WeyrlingMaster.

K'mor didn't notice Kari's mistake till it was too late. They had practiced the move a few times, how could she be so useless to make a mistake after already doing the move before hand. He was not in charge of watching her or correcting her mistakes, if anything he would think that it would only do well to teach her. The second his hand had touched his shoulder he did his best to pull back instead of leaning more into the punch. If he had continued, he would have broken a bone of her's for sure. He took one step back and watched her drop to the floor. Was this really who he was stuck with, now the idea of being paired with D'kir did not seem like so much of a bad idea. The deed had been done and he could not turn back time.

K'mor sighed and watched as Kari just laid there, a quick glance was enough to tell him that she had probably dislocated her shoulder on the fall. He had done something similar to himself once before and knew the pain. Yet it was sad to see how poorly she took to the pain. If this was how she acted with pain then she was going to be a poor dragonrider. How could a dragon be able to pick someone so weak, K'mor had to wonder if even dragons could make mistakes. "Get up, I'll walk you to the healers. Ignore the pain and get up. It is not going to kill you, take a deep breath and calm your mind so your dragon does not worry."

This was the way K'mor helped people, but he had a point if she did not over come her pain she would send her dragon into a panic. One that often led hatchlings into betweening. "Do it for your green, unless you want to force her between." He turned to look at the young weyrlingmaster. "Sir, this girl needs to be taken to the healers." This girl, yes she did not even deserve being called by her name at this point. He was willing to walk her to the healers, if she was willing to get up.

How far away are they?!
Kythe: Tag Freyia

Trith had found a spot away from where the others were playing so that she and Darenth could sit together without being in the way. While she enjoyed a good game herself she was in no mood to join in - right now she just wanted to enjoy the sun while Kythe continued her lesson. As Darenth joined her she nuzzled at his shoulder in greeting and ruffled her wings, settling herself. I am glad you could come; I love to sit in the sun but I do enjoy some company while I do so. Otherwise it can be particularly lonely.

Grinning widely Kythe nodded. "True. Can you imagine beating up one of the boys? I think they'd probably die from embarrassment." She giggled. Right, so self defense it was then. "You punch first and I'll defend... I was always useless at defending myself when my brothers and I used to play fight, might as well learn now." She said with a sigh, raising her arms to protect herself.

L'harl: Tag K'lec

Suddenly his height was an issue. Towering over his peers had always been something of a lark to L'harl but now it was a hinderance - no one could spar with him. Sighing heavily he sought out the one who had not got a partner (regardless of size) and unfortunately for K'lec it was him. Serves him right for being late. L'harl sneered slightly as he strode over to the lad, grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him to one side.

"You are, by default, MY partner. Now get your hands up and defend yourself." He said in a not so kind tone.

Kari and Karen: Tag K'mor/T'ian(?)

Kari clenched her teeth as a wave of pain washed across her, breathing deeoly through her nose and still trying to force her stomach to be still. She thought she had herself under control now but it was hard to be sure with the pain still ripping through her body. At least her breath had come back now.

Karen, mid-spar with Tiael, froze and whipped around when she heard her cousin's pained cry. "Um, sorry, I'll be right back," she told Tiael, and quickly sprinted over to where Kari was curled up on the floor with her arm lying out at an odd angle.

Kari flinched at his words and looked up. K'mor might be young and they might be in similar height but he towered over her and she suddenly found him more intimidating than ever. She let out a frightened squeak at his words, unable to stop a batch of tears flooding her eyes. "No," she managed, forcefully. "No!"

It wasn't that she wanted Seliath to panic, or that she didn't want to go to the healers, but she didn't want him to join her. Finally, Seliath's furious roaring resolved into a frantic stream of questions. Kari? Kari? What happened? What's wrong? Kari? Kari?

Kari gritted her teeth and took another breath. C-calm down, Seliath. I'm alright, I-I've got to go to the healers, they'll set me right. She'd begun trembling now, and felt faint.

Karen, meanwhile, saw all she needed to. K'mor bossing her cousin and her cousin's rather visceral response. The blue weyrling stepped forward, scowling. "Don't talk about her dragon as if you have any idea," she retorted. "You should've known to go easy on her. This is your fault. Do you even care about anyone else? Don't come any closer. You're a monster." She shot K'mor a look of pure venom and bent to kelp Kari to her feet.

Kari swayed unsteadily and when she jostled her arm she stifled a short gasp of pain, feeling embarrassed for getting injured and embarrassed about the tears that were leaking out of her eyes. Everyone would think she was weak and didn't deserve to be a rider, and K'mor had hurt her and he hadn't even apologized, and he was so mean... She let Karen support her out of the room, gritting her teeth against the pain the whole while and unable to meet any of her classmates' eyes.

Weyrling
K'mor crossed his arms over his chest and gave Karen a harsh cold stare. Did she really just say that? He spoke the truth, the pain would be nothing compared to what Kari would feel in the sky if she was as weak as she is now. They did not see it, but in his own way he was helping her. What was the point in being nice and coddle her when she needed to learn to become stronger. A monster she says, should have went easier she said. Who was Karen kidding, if she had been watch she would have say that he did start easy, they had did the move enough times slowly that Kari should have been fine. It was the first steps, Jays a child could have done better.

He outright laughed and shook his head side to side, directing his speech to Karen. "Easier? What else would you of had me done? We started easy, slow and practiced the move more then enough. It is ridiculousness that when we try the move for real she gets herself injured. This was in no way my fault only hers, but you are so blinded by blood that the only answer could be that I am a monster. Well fine I will be your monster." He was tired of this, always the bad guy, everything was always his fault. Well fine if they wanted someone to blame so badly then go ahead he did not care anymore. Left them hate him, let them despise him.

"You know what, accidents happen but if this is the way she reacts to a little pain then your cousin will not make it far as a rider. Since I don't care you can carry on protecting her or get smart and get her to deal with it. Because when we're in the sky you will not have time to save her." He was done with them, let Kari stay weak, that weakness would only get her killed and he sore he would never try to help. Let her friends and family smother her, she would not last long and K'mor already counted her as nothing but dead weight to the class. He turned away and walked across the class room to place his back to the wall that was the most distance away from the two girls. He did not see the point in staying with the class, but even if he could not continue on in the lesson he could at least watch from afar.

Freyia : Tag Kythe

Darenth returned his clucthmate's welcoming nuzzle. she had picked a good spot to sun. He turned his gaze briefly to his other playing clutchmates. The appeared to be having a good time, but he was happy enough with Trith. There would be plenty of time to play some other day. "i like to sun. it is almost as much fun as splashing, but in a different way. He turned he gentle blue gaze upon Trith. "I am glad I came then. I would not want you to be lonely. I do not like it when mine must go somewhere without me. Even though I can still feel her I like to see her to."

Freyia laughed, "I think you're right." She assumed the stance T'ain had demonstrated. It didn't seem to difficult. "You're one up on me then. Just try to take it easy me." She jocked. Raising her own hands Freyia threw a slow punch, giving the other woman plenty of time to block. She was preparing for a second try when there was a commotion a few candidates away. He eyes widened in surprise when she saw a candidate laying on the ground either knocked out or in too much pain to move. "Oh my goodness! I think Kari's been hurt." A hand involuntarily to her mouth. It took her a few moments to remember the name of the boy she was paired with, K'mor. Freyia never saw very much of him outside of lessons. From the look on his face he seemed more disgusted by the youngwoman than anything else.

Freyia turned a worried gaze back to Kythe, after Karen moved in to help. She hadn't quite been able to hear what she'd said to K'mor but it hadn't sounded friendly. Freyia was even more surprised when the boy laughed. "I hope Kari's alright." Suddenly she didn't feel much like practicing even though she knew they had to. "I guess we should be extra careful. I didn't think this would be so dangerous." She glances back to where K'mor had separated himself from the rest of the group.
