Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Gale listened quietly to Tallyn's words. Maybe it was only because he had grown up in a Weyr and knew more of dragons than she, but he seemed wise for his age. She admired that about him. The reminder that Impression wasn't garunteed was a comfort to her. There was a chance she would walk off the sands alone; she wasn't sure that she never wanted to impress, but if she didn't this time at least she would have more time to get herself straightened out.

She gave Tallyn a little smile. "You're the best, Tallyn. I hope we Impress together. I might need your support to get me through weyrlinghood." She chuckled a little to show that her confidence hadn't completely dried up, and then heaved a sigh. "Thanks for talking to me. I'm going to try to be more positive...I'm still pretty scared though."

Tis the season for santa dragons
Being a dragonrider wasn't the safest occupation on Pern, but it was probably one of the most rewarding. Being bonded to a dragon was worth the risk of injury or death, for him at least. Tallyn didn't want to consider having to live a normal life. Preforming the same safe, mundane tasks everyday. He spent a few years in a Hold and while it had been a good experience that sort of life wasn't for him. He did not want to hide beneath stone when thread fell, he wanted to go out and meet it. Watch it charred to black ash by the breath of his dragon. To see others going to meet the threat while he had to remain on the ground, left an ache inside him.

Tallyn returned her smile, glad to see she had regained some of her confidence. He appreciated her words. He wasn't sure how likely it was they would both impress, he'd seen enough friends walk off the sands to new lives. "I'm sure you'll do fine. If you do impress you'll have a constant companion in your dragon. Also the Weyrlingmasters are always around to help out new riders." He assured her. Tallyn didn't believe she would have a problem if she impressed. Impression often changed people. He'd seen shy unsure candidates blossom into confident riders after impressing. He did not know if impressing changed people or just brought out qualities already there. "I'm glad to give what advice I can. I think a lot of candidates are scared, whether they admit it or not. Especially the holdbred are possibly giving up the only life they have ever known for something completely different. I imagine that must be very difficult."

[ooc:Tallyn will be able to come for her for advice now;)]
