Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Biscuit's Second Clutch; 14 Eggs! Get 'em while they're hot!

O'rin - Tag: Visani

O'rin had been confined to his weyr most of the time since being released from the infirmary. Very reluctantly released he would add. His scars still hurt when stretched too much and it was a pain to sleep on his back. But He couldn't take it anymore. He was well enough to be on his own plus he wanted the freedom to go visit his Visi when he wanted. Plus Roseth was missing Emanth too and she refused to leave O'rin while he was in the infirmary. Placing herself in the dragon bay while he was there. So despite the 'confinement' he didn't really stay in his weyr much at all. Taking advantage of his time off from drills and such to spend his time with Visani when she wasn't busy.

And today was a special day. He made his way to the dining hall with a slight smile on his face. Roseth had stayed behind wanting to rest again and hopefully spend time with Emanth if she spotted him. Once there his eyes went right for Visani standing near the gold while everyone else gathered. From all the excitement he realized that the eggs might already be hatching...Shards! He moved quickly to get in a good spot close to Visani after grabbing a few scraps of meat. Smiling at her once he was close he spoke low for only her to hear. "Sorry I'm late. Had to dodge some healers that were checking on me." Chuckling he held out his hand with the meat watching the little flits starting to appear from their shells.

He had decided to try for one ages ago seeing how useful they could be. And of course Roseth insisted on it. She wanted a little 'baby of her own'. Even though he told her it would be 'her's' exactly she didn't care. So he went with it and there he was. Even if he didn't get one he would be glad for the time with Visi.

Zelle & Tardis - Tag: Anyone that might talk to them at some point.

She had been feeling a little better the past few days. Jenaveth was being a tad less clingy and Zelle had been acting a bit more social again. It felt good though she still had to be careful for now. That day Jen was staying in their room being lazy while Zelle and Tardis, who sat proudly upon his master's shoulder, went to the kitchens. She had no idea that the flit hatching had begun though she had seen the lovely queen building her nest. When they went inside and spotted the crowd she grinned widely while Tardis hummed loudly in her ear.

Moving closer and grabbing some bits of meat, feeding a piece to Tardis to keep him happy, she got to where she could see the eggs. Perhaps she could use another one for company for her blue. He needed a playmate to keep him at home more. "What you say little guy? Want another flit around?" She asked Tardis who gave her a cheery trill in response. "Ok then!" With that she stood ready with her meat and watched the first two go to two lucky people. She turned to the unhatched ones and waited patiently.

How far away are they?!
Bodan: Tag Visani

Who could resist a Fire Lizard Hatching! Not Bo; THAT was for certain. For once Bo had decided to attend the Hatching with no intention of acquiring one of the little darlings (if one chose him then hey that was awesome and he was never going to reject a Fire Lizard, not when his dream was to be covered head to toe in them anyway), he adored them more than anything but his point of coming had in fact been to see Visani. When word had reached him of the Fire Lizard Clutch he had felt that familiar feeling of excitement and anticipation that he had felt when he'd gone to Silence's Hatching and Shiver's Hatching; he had immediately wanted to rush down and get another to join his troop but then common sense had kicked in and he had decided that he already had two handsome boys - why be greedy? This said he still wanted to go and see the babies and see Visani since it was Biscuit's second clutch.

Hurrying into the Lower Caverns Bo immediately bowed a head to Rayna; as always the Headwoman was watchful, there was no trouble being caused so she seemed happy enough to go about her business and leave them all to it. Spotting Visani Bo grinned and hurried through the crowd to her; dodging and weaving through the people who had gathered to get their own little friend. "Vis!" He said happily as he finally reached her, wriggling through a couple more people before settling himself beside her with a beaming smile upon his face.

Stroking Silence's head he watched as a few of the eggs Hatched. "I love Fire Lizards." He muttered softly to himself. "How've you been Vis? Been ages since I've seen you." He said softly, looking at his friend and smiling at her.

Jasio
Candidate
Jasio rushed down to the lower caverns to the hatching of Biscuit's second clutch, he is a giant supporter of firelizards but didn't actually have one for himself. No one in his family had ever had a firelizard before so he wanted to be the first one. He thought the best color would be a blue because they are the ones that like to have lots of fun. Although maybe he should impress a firelizard with a personality that is opposite of him.
Tag Zelle

He stood next to this dragonrider he did not know with a firelizard. Should he attempt to touch the firelizard? Maybe if one of the hatched firelizards would want him more if they saw him with a firelizard. The dragonrider looked friendly enough but he should ask first to be polite.

"Hello, my name is Jasio, can I touch your firelizard? This is my first time at a hatching and I guess I'm more nervous than I thought I would be."

The next green to burst shell had unusual coloring as well, though nothing as bright or eye-searing as the fluorescent green from a few moments before. She was pale and cool-colored, nearly mint, but with dusky brown markings along the backs of her wings, neck, and tail. If Pern had mint chocolate, that is what she would most closely resemble. She appeared to be in a good temper as she picked herself up and began brushing the sand off her hide. She was hungry... but the next lizards to burst free temporarily distracted her.

Another brown and the first blue to finish breaking free both tumbled out in a tangle of limbs. The brown was darkly colored and the blue was a deep teal with lighter wingsails. The brown picked himself and chattered loudly, scolding the blue, who drew himself up and creeled hungrily.

The green eyed the brown for a moment before chirping at the blue, but the blue paid her no mind; he was being worked up into a frenzy by the food smells surrounding them. Without warning he darted forth, seized a piece of meat, and gobbled it down.

The brown loudly expressed what he thought of that, but the green flicked her tail insolently at him and turned to survey the crowd. They were scary, but she was hungry enough to take a chance, probably. The closest piece of meat wouldn't expose her to too much risk, probably... She darted forward, headknobs flat, focused on reaching the meat, but before she reached her destination she tripped, stumbled, rolled a few times, and ended up right before Nairo, creeling up at him.

The brown firelizard squawked in protest as she vanished, too. Why was everyone going? He had important things to say, he was... he was hungry! The brown lifted his head and turned sniffily to the crowd. Well, he'd best be treated nicely; he wasn't some riffraff firelizard who would take food from just anyone, after all. He trotted forth, choosing a particularly large and succulent piece of meat and gobbling it up messily.

At some point, someone had shoved a handful of meat into his hands. There seemed to be several drudges passing out scraps to the eager observers. Nairo reached for the woman, frowning slightly. He didn't need another fire lizard. It wasn't fair for him to take a third when some of the people here had none. The drudge slipped away before he could reach her and very abruptly there was a green fire lizard at his feet in a tangle of limbs, creeling pathetically up at him. She was a minty green color with odd, gray-brown markings along the back of her body.

Oh the poor thing! If he just left her on the floor she'd be stepped on. Nairo reached down and scooped her up, hoping to hand her off to someone else but she caught one whiff of the meat in his other hand and it was all over. She lunged for it, nipping sharply at his fingers until he opened them and then gobbling up what he had to offer and looking up at him expectantly. A tiny thread of consciousness touched his own, pulling a quiet groan from the boy. Moriarty and Cliff were fluttering to his shoulders to welcome their new friend as he stared down at her with a mixture of dismay and affection.

I guess I don't really have a choice, do I?

He let his fingers fall along her back, gently caressing her spine. She leaned into his touch and crooned; Nairo was already head over heels in love with her. Well, he rationalized to himself, there are people here with fairs of fire lizards. I suppose three isn't too greedy, is it? I hope not. He moved away from the hatching, lest he attract another unwanted fire lizard and towards the helpful drudge from earlier.

"More meat?"

"Yes please, she's very hungry still." She ate eagerly and without biting at his fingers this time as Nairo smiled softly down at her. "I'll call you Rikku I think," he murmured to her. She cheeped softly in response, curled up in the palm of his hand, and fell almost instantly asleep.

Living in the Lower Caverns had some advantages. Primarily, it was the hub of all news and gossip in the Weyr. If something happened, the Lower Caverns was the first place to hear about it. Probably stuff that hadn't happened, either-- the Caverns was known to be a good place for rumors just as well as real gossip. But it was partly being in the lower caverns and partly the presence of Cove and Cedar that alerted her to the hatching. She peeked out from the kitchens and saw a swarm of lizards beginning, along with people starting to gather around the hearths. Her brightly colored blue and her dark-colored brown added hums to the already growing clamor and Aniese fairly skipped out of the area and into the caverns proper, delighted to have a chance to set down her dishrag, if just for a short while. She edged closer to the clutch, eager to watch, and ended up with a fairly close spot by the wall. After the boy in front of her Impressed, he moved off and she found she had a front-row seat to the proceedings, which pleased her greatly.

By now all the eggs had heavy cracking and firelizards managing to get limbs out of the shells. The bronze from before still had not managed to hatch, but his leg protruded in an ungainly fashion from his eggshell, and he continued to kick determinedly. However, the golden shell seemed about ready to give way, and just as another blue and green broke free of their own shells, the large golden one gave way, spraying sand everywhere as she skidded out.

The little blue was a very bright robin's egg, and the green was a pretty forest color with tan underbelly, socks, and stripes down her tail. Both seemed to be eager to get out of the way as the gold found her feet and shook herself off, barking at the pair of them as if they were in her way. She was completely unlike any gold to hatch before... she had a ruby throat and underbelly, and her wingsails were edged in the same deep red hue. She spread her wings wide to let the sails dry, glaring at the pair of other lizards just for good measure. Then her nose caught the smell of the nearby meat and she whipped around, looking for the source.

The green seemed to be fairly even-keeled and watched the gold warily, but the brightly colored blue was cowering behind his sister, clearly cowed by the gold's body language. When the gold darted away and fastened on a morsel, he finally gained the courage to peek out.

The green looked down at the blue and gave an encouraging croon. He seemed a bit uncertain, but with her encouragement, picked himself up as well and peered out uncertainly at the pieces of meat all being thrust in his direction. His sister nosed him gently and he puffed up his chest and marched forth, picking the first piece of meat he saw and devouring it before demanding more.

The green was satisfied then. She liked helping but all she knew was hunger, and it was tough to wait when there was fresh meat right here. The aromas attracted her. She was not particularly bright, and likely didn't know that if there wasn't fresh meat she'd probably have been a meal for that queen; the concept of cannibalism at that time would have been foreign to her. But for all her supposed back of foresight, she was cheerful, and she darted forward with good spirit, swallowing a morsel whole strait from a hand, and squawking immediately for more.

O'rin - Tag: Visani still

Still standing next to Visani he was waiting for her response when a young fellow came up and spoke to her. Chuckling at how enthusiastic the kid was he turned just in time to watch other flit hatch...and one come right for the meat in his hand. Completely surprised he stared at first not knowing what to do. He had never owned a flit before but he was always interested in them. Well...he HAD joined this to get one didn't he? When the little thing finished its piece and chittered at him rapidly for more he couldn't help smirking. Taking a another bit of meat he fed it to the darkly colored brown and watched as it once again ate the piece messily. "Hmm...Guess I should name you. How about..." He looked about as if searching for a name in the air before his eyes landed on Biscuit. The idea was just silly...but what the heck. Why not?

Letting out a small laugh he winked at Visani and then holding out his hand to let the newborn flit crawl up his arm with a contented chirp he smiled. "Welcome to the family Muffin. Hope you like the name." The brown clung to his shoulder now and seemed to actually think about the name before huffing and sending a small touch of approving emotions to his new master. O'rin couldn't wait to show Roseth the little guy though in the back of his head he could feel her already getting excited about it.

Zelle - Tag: Jasio?

Zelle watched eagerly with Tardis who was getting excited seeing the little ones hatch. His mistress's good mood had him relaxed and pumped as he trilled and crooned to the new ones. The garnetrider turned her head though when she heard a voice speak to her. Frowning she tilted her head curiously since she didn't recognize the kid. "Uh...Hey there. I wouldn't try it. Tardis isn't very fond of strangers touching him." Sure enough the blue flit hissed at the boy and wrapped his tail around Zelle's neck almost protectively. "But nice to meet ya Jasio. I'm Zelle of Garnet Jenaveth." She gave him her usual confident smirk and then turned back to the hatching. The ones that hatched so far were amazing.

Soon she had her breath taken away by the gold that hatched. Its colors were beautiful and Zelle almost envied its new master. But her thoughts were torn away from such thoughts when she noticed the stunning little green that took the piece of meat from her hand. Zelle almost crooned along with Tardis at its lovely appearance. As the little one seemed to ask for more the girl quickly got another piece and held it out to watch the green gobble it down. Feeling that gentle touch of the flits mind she chuckled and reached out to pick her up. "You are a pretty one. Hmm...I'm going to call you Tilly." It seemed she had a thing for names beginning with 'T'. The thought made her flush ever so slightly but she shook her head of the sudden emotions. Smiling at the new flit and Tardis poking his nose down her shoulder to look at her.

A green, a blue, and the bronze who had been struggling all managed to crack open their shells at last. The green was a brightly-colored thing with clear yellow undertones, making her a very warm, grassy color. The blue was a very pretty indigo color, almost purple, and much darker than both of his brethren who had already Impressed. The little bronze was a much more greeny color than usual, and bright green showed through on his tail.

The green immediately shied away from the blue, scolding him all the while. The bronze drew himself up and barked angrily at her and she skittered away from him as well, going to hide behind the remnants of what eggshells littered the sands, and the 3 remaining eggs.

The bronze instead turned on the indigo-colored blue, making his displeasure known. However, the blue gave him a good-natured chirp and turned away. If he didn't want to get along, so be it. While he was busy bossing them around, he would find some food.

Although the hatching was mostly over, there were still plenty of people gathered around; each egg had pretty much begun hatching at the same time, and ended up dropping firelizards within minutes of each other, leading to a frantic, excited chaos, and many people still hopeful that not too much time had passed.

The blue cheerfully glanced about and found a piece of meat dangling just a few inches away. He leapt upon it eagerly and devoured it voraciously.

The bronze looked about for a minute, seeking the green who had vanished and chittering haughtily the whole time. Where had she gone? Didn't the stupid dumbbutt understand they had to get out of the hearth now? What a little coward, how could she think she was doing anything sensible? He gave one more angry bark and whirled around grumpily. Well, fine then! He'd just find some food himself! He pounced upon an offered morsel, scratching the hand carrying it with his front talons as he did so and not caring.

Only when the bronze had been coaxed away from the hearth did the little, grassy-colored green emerge again. She chittered angrily to herself and glanced up and down. There were plenty of morsels offered but she didn't want the same one he had taken. She picked a nearby one, seizing it hungrily and gulping it down.

Rin watched the tiny creatures break their shells and squabble, flop, and stumble their way across the hearth toward their new owners, her eyes glittering and a wide smile on her face. This was the first time she'd had the chance to attend a flitter hatching, and she was surprised at now tiny they were!

They'd have to be tiny to fit in those little eggs, Syzreth was awake now, stirred by her rider's growing excitement and resigning herself to not sleeping in that morning. Peering through her rider's eyes at the images of the tiny firelizards, the garnet's mood lightened immediately. They are quite cute. I do hope you get one, I would like to see it up close. Rin chuckled at her dragon's change in tone. Rider and garnet both loved children and little things, she knew the dragon wouldn't mind.

Turning her attention back to the hearth, she saw that finally, the bronze who had been pushing at his egg this whole time had managed to break his shell, along with a green and a blue. Watching the tiny drama unfold between the three siblings, Rin covered her laughter with a hand, the sheer ridiculousness of the scene tickling her. The laughter was interrupted by a gasp as she felt her hand being clawed at suddenly, looking down to see that the bronze had latched onto her and was eating the meat from her hand voraciously. The tiny, soft talons hadn't broken the skin, but they were still rather painful and she winced as she pulled away from the hearth.

A tiny tendril of consciousness touched her own, and she was surprised by the tentative brush with those familiar Impression feelings. The bronze hissed at anyone and anything that came near HIS bonded, endearingly chattering around his mouthfuls of meat. Rin got the strong impression from the tiny bronze that she was HIS and that was that.

Slipping away from the crowd, Rin left the kitchen and walked outside to meet with her dragon, who had left her morning perch and glided down so she could see the little bronze with her own eyes.

Oh he is rather cute, Syzreth leaned her large head down to peer at the tiny creature, who looked up with a hiss.

What was this giant red thing? Why was it so close? Oh, it had good-feelings in his bonded's head. Okay. Well, the big red thing was HIS too then!

Syzreth blinked, What an odd little thing. What will you call him?

"Hmm... I think I'll call him... Joru." She peered down at the bronze with a big smile, as the little thing yawned and curled up in the crook of her arm, fully stuffed now and exhausted from his efforts.
