Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Dinnertime over the last couple of months had gotten markedly better. D'kir hadn't eaten this well... ever in his entire life. His home hold had been small and meager in their supplies, and then the Weyr had been going through their slim times as well. Since Threadfall had started, the diets had markedly improved and this night found him with a heaping plate of vegetables and meat stew.

D'kir sat happily within view of the hearth, as Tanohth was still small enough to fit into the Lower Caverns and liked to be near the fire, though it was probably one of the last nights the young dragon would be allowed to do so. He was growing faster all the time. So D'kir found himself watching the gold firelizard curiously. The little thing seemed to be nosing about her clutch rather intently that evening... and then he became aware of the very soft squeaking and scrabbling noises from the eggs as they were unearthed.

He saw that other people were becoming aware of it as well, and grinned, fishing several hunks of meat off of his plate and moving close to the clutch, Wavi taking up the welcoming hum in unison with the little gold queen.

What is happening? Tanohth looked up from where he'd been warming his bronze hide, blinking and glancing around the crowd of people and excited firelizard humming.

The firelizard clutch is hatching! I've never seen a proper flitt hatching before, I wonder if I can attract a friend for Wavi?

Oh, the little brother? There are babies? the bronze trotted over to his rider, nudging people out of the way gently and peering at the sandy nest. His throat thrummed a soft welcome as well. D'kir let his free hand rest on Tanohth's head, the other one holding the bits of meat forward as he watched the first couple eggs hatch and Impress.

Ebylin tried not to get too bothered by some of the shoving that went on during the little hatching. She understood the excitement but it was still a bit irritating. Still not quite used to being part of big crowds again unless she was teaching or doing drills. Though her good mood didn't really waver in the least despite the agitation. Watching the eggs she grinned seeing two already hatch. A cute little green and a brown. Shaking her head when the brown scared the pretty green she watched as she darted toward...her. Ebylin had been holding out the piece of meat almost out of habit from the last three flit hatchings for her boys. But she was still surprised when the green suddenly snatched up the piece of meat greedily.

Holding out another piece when she was done and chittered at her almost shyly for more Ebylin couldn't help grinning as she felt the first touch of the little one bonding to her. It had been a long time since she felt that sensation. Still get wonderful. Her boys were making a racket as the bonding took place and all three flew to her and landed in their usual spots. Rayne sat on her head crooning at the new member to their family while the other two chirped and chittered in welcome, encouraging her to come closer. And from outside she heard a thrilled bugle of Harnteth who was more than delighted that the firelizard was a green. She mumbled under her breath. "Geeze...you guys are impossible...now I have to name her." Despite her mumbled words she was very happy about having a new little one to dote on.

Name her...uh...Grass. Harnteth offered just like she did when Rayne had hatched. Because he had been blue, it reminded her of 'rain', hence his name. But Ebylin just shook her head as the little one came closer chirping timidly at her. Ebylin gently picked her up and held her in her arms, the little one instantly snuggled into her and crooned quietly at the other three still chittering to her. We're not naming her 'grass' Harnteth. She could almost feel Harnteth pout at that. Then what are you going to name her? The green was wiggling outside and eager to see her new little cousin. Ebylin was already making her way from the crowd and heading to the exit. "I think I'll name you...Eve." She sent the name through their link and Harnteth crooned to herself. Ooo I like that name.

Good. So do I. Ebylin grinned and walked outside to show Harnteth their new family member. The larger green rumbled and crooned at the little one. Eve just squeaked and hid in her new mistress's arms. Silly thing...such a coward.

"Visani!" Bo cried cheerfully as he all but bounced into the room. Standing next to the Brownrider he grinned widely. "I didn't realise it was YOUR Queen that had clutched this bunch." he said excitedly, stroking Silence with a hand as he glanced at the eggs before him. "I just love Fire Lizards. Think they're great. Look Silence, this is just like when you found me!"

It was obvious that there had been a climatic change in Bo's attitude to... Well the world really. There was a grin upon his face that had not been seen in a long time and a confidence that even he did not think he had. Finally the lad had stopped his moping over not Impressing and ha clearly made a vow to himself (and a pretty Harper apprentice for that matter) to be more cheerful.

Looking from Silence to the already hatching eggs he made a decision. He would try for a new friend! With a grin on his face Bo held out a piece of meat of his own. There was always a

Irgin had been hard at work in the kitchens, carrying bowls, serving plates and helping bake bread. He'd had such a long day that by the end of it, he'd been found curled up on a sack of tubers in the corner of the kitchens, fast asleep. He'd been fondly woken, a bowl of food pushed into his sleepy hands, and told to go eat something.

Rubbing his eyes, Irgin made his way across the kitchens, still covered in flour. Bowl clasped in hands, he was going to head to the dining hall but there was a huge crowd of people! Right here in the kitchens? ... He was confused for a moment, until the mark dropped.

The firelizards were here! He'd seen the Golden queen, sitting on her nest and hissing at people. Irgin had steered clear of her, but peered often across the work tables at her. She was enchanting.

Curiosity, won over dinner.

Tiny legs tottled over, the small boy ducking and carefully dodging people until he got to the front of the crowd. There on the hearth, eggs were hatching and babies were creeling. Owl eyed, irgin popped a mouthful of food into his own jaws and chewed slowly, eyes fixed in wonderment at the small babies with their glittering hides.

Eggs hatched in quick succession, following on the tails of the brown and green. A blue, a green, and a bronze burst out of their shells, creeling in hunger and sending waves of emotion to those gathered.

The blue was a handsome fellow, being a deep sky blue all over, but as he spread his wings and revealed his markings, showing to be fading to a pale, icy blue across his wings. He hissed at the noise and excitement and backed up into the clutch.

The first bronze of the clutch was much bolder than his blue brother. He immediately darted forward, flaring his wings open and announcing himself with a bugle, as loud as he could muster. Everyone would look at him! His hide was very green-yellow for a bronze, looking not far off from a gold, all things considered. Immediately he charged into the fray of frantically waving pieces of meat, siezing on one and first devouring it before sinking his teeth into the fingers that held it in an impatient demand for more.

As the bronze darted away, the little green stretched luxuriously, ignoring the thoughts pouring out from the crowd of welcome and comfort, as well as their pieces of meat. She was hungry, but perhaps not hungry enough for them. She instead lazily flexed her wings, looking about as though she had all the time in the world. Her hide was a dark leafy green, with a lime green on all four limbs and her tail. Something about the luxuriousness of her movements reminded one of a queen, though she seemed to lack the haughty attitude that came with it. She sniffed disapprovingly at the blue, who remained curled up against some of the hatching eggs, before moving to the side and locking onto the first piece of meat she saw.

The brightly colored blue watched his sister go with some anxiety, before puffing out his chest and snorting. He could do it if she could! Hesitantly he took a few steps forward, before he was cut off short by a piece of meat thrust directly into his face. There-- that was easy. He gobbled the piece down in the blink of an eye and looked up, creeling for more.

Clearly C'sen did not think this through in approaching a queen with her clutch of eggs hatching, even if it was just a firelizard. And with that he was rewarded with a nice little bite mark on his finger. "Ow!" He shook of the pain that flared through the digit, popping it into his mouth to stem the flow of blood. Cl'seeennnn! You need to get a little dragon. I want a little dragon!

The weyrling reached for another piece of meat and stretched out towards the hatching eggs. Maybe round two would go better.

A green and brown hatched at the same time, making the boy's eyes widen at the sight of them. How small they were! They really did look like smaller dragons. "Here, girl. Here boy, I got food!" Unsuccessfully he called out to them, but they diverged off to others who had grabbed their attention.

Try again! Please try again!

All right, all right. Last time, cause I'm not staying here all night trying to get one of these -

A flare of pain came from the same finger again! "Ouch! Shard it all, why do these things bite so much?" It was then he realized the little bronze on his hand had not left, and started eating the scraps he held onto. The faint tingle he had when Impressing Rhoth came upon him, and the firelizard crawled up his arm to settle on his shoulder.

Y... You're mine? Well, duh. He's still there isn't he? Oh, oh oh! What are you going to name him?

Huh. He hadn't thought of that. "Hmmmm... How about Ryu?" The bronze crooned. I like it! "Ryu it is, then."

Weyrling

All but one of Liel's firelizard friends had remained in the weyr with Zeath. His loyal little blue clung to his shoulder as he made his way across the Weyrbowl towards the Dining Hall. It was going to be a late dinner for him, which was his fault because he'd spent so long reading with his dragon.

But as L'iel approached the Hall, he noticed that something seemed to have drawn everyone’s attention. The thought of having a nice quiet dinner was forgotten as he heard the word “hatching”. His mood brightened immediately. He absolutely loved fizelizards, and was always looking for more to add to his little collection. However, for some reason he had always Impressed males, which was unfortunate as he would have liked to breed them.

Neptune chittered excitedly as L'iel quickly made his way over to where the small crowd was gathered. He scooped up a few scraps of meat from a small bowl and slipped through the crowd so that he would be close enough. His slim and lithe frame was useful for this and he soon found himself in a good position.

Bo looked up from the clutch to Visani and smiled at her. With his free hand the young lad squeezed her forearm. "Good to see you again by the way. If you ever want a chat or just some quiet company come find me yeah? I think you're great." He beamed before turning his attention back to the main event. He meant what he said, if there was one thing about him it was that he was sincere.

Silence leant forward, his tiny front paws resting on Bo's chest, tail wrapped around his neck for balance. To the Blue all of this was familiar, after all it hadn't been all that long ago since his own hatching. It was actually rather fascinating to watch it all from the other side and see the little Fire Lizards bursting from their shells, calling to be fed and loved.

Grinning widely Bo watched as three more eggs hatched. The Blue immediately caught his eye and Bo felt for him. He seemed so frightened. Silence gave a whisper of encouragement to his sibling, though there was no way it could have been heard. Its ok little one. We only want to look acts you. Nothing to be afraid of really. Bo tried to push the thoughts out to the Blue, trying to comfort him as. Est he could. Then, as though it had heard him, the Blue snatched the meat from Bo's fingers.

Picking up his new friend Bo grinned widely and moved away from Visani with a wink. The tiny blue clutched to his chest he continued to feed him, and Silence, until the hunger was satiated. Spotting another lad crouching in a corner he smiled and chuckled to himself. Picking up another piece of meat he placed it into the boys fingers. "You're more likely to get one if you have something for them to eat. Names Bo by the way. And this is Silence and..." He glanced at the newcomer in his arm, shivering despite the warmth. "And Shiver." He said with a grin. His two best friends.

Tis the season for santa dragons
The news that there was a new clutch of firelizard eggs didn't take very long to spread throughout the Weyr. After meeting Tiael's precious little Imit Arryn had decided she had wanted to try to impress one of the little creatures. Perdoth had been accepting of the plan and seemed to think it would be quite fun to have a little one to look after. Arryn decided adding a firelizard hatchling to their group wouldn't really be that much extra work. She already had Perdoth to bath and feed so another small mouth and body wouldn't difficult. So with her Green's eager consent Arryn had kept her ears open for any news of when the eggs would begin to hatch, the latest count she had heard was 18 eggs in total.

She was sipping her glass of juice when the news came that Biscuit's eggs were hatching. Arryn coughed and sputtered as she nearly inhaled her beverage. Grinning despite it, "Peri the eggs are hatching, wish me luck! We might have a newly little friend in a bit. "Bring me back a pretty one. Arryn chuckled, stepping back form the table and she merged into the flow heading for the kitchen. Seemed she wasn't the only one hoping for a hatchling. The crowd had formed around the Gold and her eggs, which were already cracking. Arryn heard a few happy gasps as some of the hatching broke free and were impressed. With a determined set to her mouth, she as politely as one could began to push her way through the crowd.

Arryn grabbed some meat from a nearby bowl. From a few discussion she had learned flitts impressed to those who fed them first, unlike dragons who seemed to know, somewhat, just who they wanted after hatching. Slightly out of breath she finally made it to the first row, eager dangling the meat from her fingers. It was exciting as she watching the tiny eggs rock and crack before releasing their contents. She watched hopefully, sending out warm, loving thoughts in hopes of enticing one of the creatures toward her.

Curse Your Sudden But Inevitable Betrayal
“It won't take long to get used to. I've lived at a Weyr before. Did you want to grab some dinner?” Keadra asked Selena as they entered the dining hall. Kea had just arrived at the Weyr and had gotten lost in the lower caverns. It was a normal thing, she was sure, but it was still rather embarrassing.

The kitchens were busy, but that was normal for this time of day. “That would be great,” Selena answered enthusiastically. Suddenly Melody launched herself off Lena's shoulder and took off toward the hatching, humming happily and landing on Bodan's head. “Oh look, they're hatching! Come on, this will be fun!” the Harper's voice rang out enthusiastically as she grabbed the other woman's hand and pulled her over to the crowds.

Lena knew what to do this time; she picked up one of the bowls of meat and turned to Keadra. “Here, you should try for one!” she said beaming and pushing a few pieces of meat into the woman's hands. “I'll try for one if you do,” she said grinning as Keadra started to protest.

Finally convinced, they both turned to the hatching. They'd already missed a few, but there were plenty of eggs left to try for. Melody chirped happily at Silence and Shiver from on top of Bodan's head.
