Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

There was really no reason for Zane not to take what Tiael said at face value. She was assuming that the other girl was trustworthy, mostly because she’d not been given any reason to believe otherwise. ”You look as if you’re... okay?” Zane replied carefully, not seeming to catch on to the fact that Tiael’s question hadn’t warranted a response. Even though Tiael’s reassurance that she hadn’t been at all offensive was meant to calm her, instead it had the total opposite effect. Zane knew that she was far too jumpy and often worried over nothing but it didn’t make it any easier for her to stop herself from worrying. She could realize when she was about to have an episode from a mile away, but it didn’t matter when she was powerless to stop it. Having no clue what Tiael was thinking at present, all Zane could do was guess. She probably thinks I’m a freak. She blinked couple of times innocently, waiting for further conversation.

Does she think me daft enough not to be able to tell? Zane wondered when the fact about their ages being close was brought to her attention. ”I know,” she smiled, ”at least one of us is capable of acting their age.” She wasn’t a stranger to her odd behaviour, and at least now Tiael would be made aware of this.

She was afraid of going onto the sands because of the likelihood that she could get attacked, yes, but she was far more afraid of never getting the chance to impress and do something more with her life. ”I guess it’s a risk that everyone takes,” she replied, surprising herself. ”I tend to watch everything going on around me, so hopefully I won’t find myself in that type of situation. Even if I do, it might be okay, I mean there’s a chance that people could still survive. I don’t exactly want to find out but, you know...” She was rambling again. Wonderful.

Tiael’s laughter was oddly refreshing, and Zane found herself laughing too. It was much easier to laugh at herself rather than anything else. She’d never dare laugh at someone else, that would most definitely be seen as offensive. She couldn’t have that. Zane paused in her laughter to shrug a shoulder, and thereafter heave a sigh. ”I know what you said,” she argued, ”It’s just actually being able to put your advice into practice that’s the real problem.” She caught Tiael’s eye and frowned, shrugging a second-time.

It could hardly come as a shock that Zane was a stranger to flirting. She could’ve very well been flirting back and thought nothing of it, not expecting anything to come of it. ”Please, all you’ve done so far is be nice,” Zane told her, finding herself having to look away because of the bold start to her claim. ”Well, honesty is fine by me,” she added quickly, feeling the need to salvage her good reputation. (Oh how sensitive she could be.) She quieted, staring at Tiael curiously as she spoke of her smile. And there was that bright shade of red coming back to dance over her cheeks. ”I-,” she attempted to speak, closing her mouth until she could gather her thoughts properly. ”I highly doubt that... And girls? What do you mean?” her subconscious inquired. Certainly Tiael couldn’t think that she-no. She couldn’t think that! Again Zane surprised herself by reaching out to lightly shove her companion. ”Whatever, now you’re just being silly,” she chuckled, burying her face in her legs again, but far more cheerily this time.

Handsome? That Volcom could understand. He jumped once, flapping his wings, and then a second time, flapping them again. He barely lifted off the ground but it was enough to get him over to Tiael. ”Oh he has been,” Zane answered, talking with her face pressed against the fabric of her pants. She wasn’t feeling confident enough to come out from hiding just yet. ”He’s been a blessing, actually.” Volcom extended his neck out and butted Tiael with the flat of his head. He liked to play, and hopefully this new-friend-person would like to play too.

(::) (::) (::) ...mmm cookies.
Tiael nodded quietly at Zane's assessment of her mood, giving her an encouraging smile. She really did seem to take every small thing to heart. That could be tricky, if Tiael planned to worry about it. Truth was, Tiael was far more of a take things as they are, person. If Zane was going to worry, Tiael may as well just be herself and Zane would, hopefully, learn to cope with it. If not, Tiael had a feeling she'd just end up frustrated, once her initial curiosity wore off. That didn't mean she couldn't be nice, but she was not going to shield her completely.

Tiael raised her eyebrow, biting back the smart retort that hiding behind her hair did not help her seem her age. The following comment seemed to sum it up for her. Shrugging, she ran a hand through her own hair. "I don't think it's a question of capability," Tiael said, pausing to give it some thought as she pursed her lips. "You've just got to want to do things." She said, then shrugged again. "I'm not always very good at explaining." She said, her tones slightly softer again. The conversation was broaching into possibly uncomfortable territory and Tiael hoped the apology could smooth things over a little. It wasn't going to be good if Zane got angry. Would she? Did she get angry easily? She frightened easily....Well if that was the case, Tiael reasoned she could always leave.

Tiael hadn't expected Zane to take the discussion of the dragon attack so well, but it was encouraging. Maybe that was what had caused her to be Searched. She was scared, but still prepared to face it........at least, hopefully this time round. "Plenty of people come off the sands unscathed. Plus, yes, injuries seem more common than fatalities." Tiael said, grasping at her limited knowledge and attempting to cling to the positive Zane had picked up on. "I'm sure we'll both be fine, if we're looking out for each other we can't go wrong, right?" Alright, possibly laying it on a little think, but to hear the girl positive was a step in the right direction.

Her laughter was also encouraging and far more musical than she'd expected. Hearing her doubts over being able to stop her mind from worrying, Tiael mused silently. The idea of offering to hit her with fish eat time she over-worried was swiftly dismissed. Zane would probably freak out, plus fish were smelly. "You'll get there....let me know if I can help?" She offered, though she hadn't the first clue how that would work beyond the fish idea.

Shy, would be an understatement for Zane. The girl practically stumbled to explain every small thing she said, and glowed bright red when complimented. The sheer amount of discomfort Zane had at the notion of people liking her smile, made her wonder if she'd ever been complimented before at all. Also girls? What did she mean? WHAT DID SHE MEAN? Was Zane serious?.......Well, she was either holdbred or had been kept in a small, terrifying bubble. Either seemed a distinct possibility. Clearly this was going to have to be worked on, before the girl wound up in a compromising situation and her head exploded with realisations. Leaning back a little as she was shoved, Tiael watched her bury her face in her knees grinning and chuckled. "Hey now, I was being honest remember." She said, flicking a lock of the girls hair in return. Tiael debated asking more, though refrained for a while. Too much pressure and she'd probably clam up again.

As Volcom hop-fluttered his way over, Tiael smiled. "I've heard they make wonderful companions." She said quietly, grinning as he butted her with his head. She extended a hand, ticking his neck and down his back gently. "I bet he's a good listener." She commented, admiring his hide.

As she sat, playing with the firelizard, she grew thoughtful. Her brows knitted together for a moment and she glanced up at Zane, hesitating before she voiced a question. "So, before, when you said I was being silly....has no one ever mentioned girls to you before? Like that I mean." Tiael paused, wrestling her thoughts into questions that would be easier. "Scratch that if you don't want to answer. This one may be a little, better. Are you, from a Hold?" There was no malice in her tones, just a lot of curiosity. She flicked her gaze back to Volcom, skittering her fingers across the floor for him to chase.
