Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

It appeared that his scrap lure had been accepted, and Tosst wrapped a large hand around the small blue, effectively scooping him up. The 'lizard creeled in protest, not appreciating this attack on his incredibly important person, but all was made right in the world once more when Tosst shoved another gob of meat into his throat.

The man pulled back away from the dirty laundry nest, no longer interested in any of the other creatures that were spawning among he socks. He had his prize, he figured, and took some time to really look at the little creature, making his way back to his quarters.

He was exceptionally pale, his whole underbelly more white than blue. It didn't really suit his sensibilities and color preferences, but he supposed that it would be incredibly vain to wish your pets matched your favorite hues. Was sharding loud, though, and seemed to have some kind of authority complex.

It would be interesting to see how it fared with Tossk.

Tosst was bad at naming things. He'd been somewhat relieved that Tossk had named himself, otherwise the bronze may have ended up named 'wher', or 'desert'. He supposed this came from not having to name an exceptional many things in his lifetime, and poked at his new possession, who peeped sleepily in response.

Well. Such a violent and angry creature could not have a stupid feminine name.

Tosst decided to name the pale little thing 'Bonechewer'.

Taking a deep breath, Therial shut the door to the infirmary behind her. It had been a long day already, and she had chores to look forward to later as well. But for now she had a breather and she would definitely take what she could get. Keeping her shawl wrapped loosely around her shoulders, she set off at a brisk pace down the hallway, a small skip in her step. She'd been unusually happy since discovering family here, no matter how awkward it was when she was alone with her new found twin brother.

Hearing a loud commotion as she passed by the kitchens, she poked her head in to figure out just what was going on. When her eyes landed on the baby firelizards, she couldn't help but be drawn forward, despite her normal shyness. She loved the little critters; they were one of the reasons she wanted to study to be a dragonhealer. Coming closer to the packed in group of people, she could tell the hatching was mostly over already. Many people now held a new baby. There was even a gold! Therial didn't bother with picking up any meat, more enthralled with watching the firelizards around her. She was very content just watching them.

(Late post is very late.)

How far away are they?!
They were so beautiful. Each and every one of them was unique in their colourings and their markings and every one that hatched earned a "oooo" of excitement from Bodan. Part of him wanted to reach out and touch each of them, he couldn't help the trembling elation he felt at being this close to his obsession - he had the chance to acquire his own little companion. Everytime one came near to him Bo stretched his arm out further and tried to entice them towards him but each time they moved away and chose someone else.

It was then that a beautiful Green came his way and once again he stretched his arm out as far as he could in the hopes of attracting her attention... Only to be completely ignored in favour of - Lena! Never in all of his life had Bo flicked through so many emotions so quickly. First was the disappointment at being rejected, second came the gut wrenching jealousy that Lena had a Fire Lizard of her own, soon after followed the anger towards her - she didn't even want one! Finally Bo's whirlwind of emotions settled on an overwhelming feeling of pride and joy for Lena; she deserved such a beautiful companion - the Green reflected Lena's true beauty. "Congratulations." He said with a large smile upon his face. "She's really pretty. What're you going to call her?" He asked.

His attention remained partially on the remaining eggs while he spoke to Lena. There was still a chance he would get one... As two more eggs hatched Bo's attention was drawn back completely. There stood the most handsome Blue he had ever seen. Having Lizard-sat Kythe's Tiran for a day Bo had become an avid Blue fan - not even the Gold could compare in his eyes. Bending down slightly He calmly put his hand out as he had before, although this time his hand was completely steady... And this time he got his wish.

He didn't dare move as he gave the Blue another piece of meat once the first had been devoured. Without a fuss the Blue continued to eat whatever was given to him and all the while Bo watched him with utter adoration in his eyes. His heart was already bursting with love for HIS Fire Lizard and all he could do was smile. Finally the Blue had eaten enough and he looked up expectantly. Without hesitation Bo picked up his new friend and held him out at arms length to get a better look at him. "Wow." He uttered softly as he cradled the Blue against his chest. "Wow. You're so handsome." he said softly, eyes fixed upon the Blue's whirring gaze. "I need to name you." Bo stated softly. Unlike the other hatchlings causing a cacophony of noise his was silent, not one minute sound had been spoken at all. "That's it. That's your name." Bo said proudly. "Silence." this earned a nod of approval and a rub against his cheek but nothing more.

Grinning to himself Bo knew now that he was going to be ok - with Silence around he would never be alone again and there was no need to be so afraid. He couldn't he been happier.

Hatchings always seemed to go so fast, no matter if they were flitters or dragons, L'ren thought to himself with a quiet little smile. Idly, he took bites from the remains of his meatroll, watching the remaining eggs hatch and raising his eyebrows when the pale little gold emerged!

A genuine laugh and a clap on the shoulder were awarded to Q'wyn, "Good job, man! Good job!"

Then as he turned back to the eggs, three shells cracked and their occupants tumbled into the pile of socks and miscellaneous treasures, a green, a blue, and a brown. The poor little blue seemed frightened of all the attention and L'ren frowned in sympathy. What a big, noisy world the little fellow had been spilled into! The green, on the other hand, seemed to relish it along with her brown brother. Charming little personalities!

The crowd pushed forward a bit, and the short-statured man was shoved from behind. L'ren staggered forward against the table that the nest lay upon, and the hand that held the meatroll pushed past everyone toward the hatchlings. Before he knew what had happened, the little coppery-brown had jumped onto his hand and began devouring the roll!

A pale glimmer of the joy and love that one experienced upon Impression of a dragon began to flood through his brain, especially when the tiny brown turned glistening eyes up to him when he pulled his hands carefully back to himself.

"Oh... oh wow. Hello, there..." L'ren's voice was soft and high-pitched in surprise as he unconsciously backed away from the crowd, cradling the tiny brown protectively against his chest while he found a seat out of the way.

A little one found you? How nice, Torenith's voice was full of amusement and the dragon paused to glean a picture of the hatchling from L'ren's mind. Well he is rather cute, in a very very tiny sort of way. What are you going to name him? He doesn't know his name like I did when I hatched.

Chuckling at his dragon's almost jealous tone, L'ren blinked slowly. A name? He hadn't even considered that he'd come away with a flitt, let alone think of a name for one. How about... Zek? I like the sound of that.

A small name for a small thing. Now come outside so I can see him with my own eyes!

Breantur loved fire-lizard Hatchings. But he hadn't really made up his mind whether he really -wanted- another one or not. It was one of the rare times when he felt truly torn. Part of him relished the memory of Impressing Indigo and longed for a repeat of the experience. Another part of him, however, remembered how much -work- the blue had been when he was a newborn, and definitely did -not- long for a repeat of -that- experience.

So it was that he showed up rather late to the next Hatching he heard about. Some people in his mindset would not have shown up at all. But his response to any sort of impediment was, characteristically, to bull headlong through it and let come what may. He figured he would give others time, let them have a chance first. And then, if he maybe waited too long and missed his chance or if none of them came his way at all, well, so be it. There would be other times, other days.

Even though he told himself that, the Weaver couldn't help but feel a mild pang of disappointment when, upon arriving at the nexus of activity and excitement which was the flit Hatching, it seemed as if he'd waited a bit -too- long to show up. At first, it seemed like all the eggs were gone already. That kind of took the fun out of things... he'd been assuming there'd be at least a little bit of uncertainty. And now what to do with this bowl of meat? He'd grabbed it hurriedly from the Dining Hall so it was cooked, at least. Thoughtfully he popped a piece into his mouth and chewed on it, looking around at the others with their newborns. He saw someone had a queen and smiled; well, clearly there'd be more chances for him in the future even if he'd missed this one!

It was then that he noticed movement in the corner of his eye, turned, and realized that, in fact, he wasn't -entirely- too late, after all... or was he? There was a chance... but it was a longshot. Suddenly the uncertainty he'd been hoping for manifested, bigtime. Impulsively, making up his mind, the meat was held out hopefully...

The last two eggs burst outward, leaving only cracked eggshells behind amongst the laundry nest Samus had constructed. As they stepped into the light, there was some admiration: the green was a fetching shade of pine, and the bronze was an unusually light creature for one of his stature. For the last lizards, they were two fine choices.

The green pranced forward eagerly, smelling the meat, but the bronze hung back for a moment. Still, the green was ready; she immediately latched onto the nearest piece of meat and gobbled it up.

Easily discouraged but lively
Breantur

The bronze stood alone for a moment, confused by the chaos all around him of new meat and new Impressions. Then, suddenly, he lunged forward and snapped up an offered morsel before creeling hungrily for more.

Tiael watched as more of the shells on the 'nest' split open. Tiny occupants greeted the world with shock. Not surprising, given that there were hands everywhere dangling food. Tiael even retracted her hand for a while, watching as a green, bronze and blue tumbled about and eventually made up their minds over tastiest food. Tiael knew this wasn't how dragons bonded, these guys just seemed concerned with food. Still, she couldn't help being curious about how the experience would compare if she was lucky.

Deciding she'd get nowhere if she didn't try, her hand thrust out again as more shells split. A green and two blue's, all so different. A dark coloured, larger blue caught her eye. He'd be useful, be able to slip in and out of shadows if she needed him to be sneaky...or that green, small, delicate and utterly adorable. The third hatchling a smaller but much brighter blue was also handsome, though she wasn't sure such a memorable hide as his would be the most useful.

As she was mulling this over, a pair of jaws had locked onto the food in her hands, almost dangling from the meat by jaws alone. Blinking, Tiael peered down into the tiny eyes of the brightest blue currently hatched and stared. There was no great rolls of emotion, just the odd flicker of pictures, mostly of her own nose and a twinge of hunger. Huh. Well, that had scuppered her ponderings. Here she was, apparently now the owner of a tiny but highly memorable blue firelizard.

How in Faranths great shiny backside was she going to make this work? It would require some thinking. There was a cessation in the insistent tugging at the meat in her fingers as the blue merely hung limp, jaws tightly clamped about his prize, body slack. Grinning Tiael scooped him up in her arm and released his hard earned prize. The blue seemed satisfied, gobbling it down and then peering about. Other firelizards had settled into the crooks of arms, or on shoulders. He opted for the crook of Tiael's arm and seemed to peer about the room chirping softly. He gazed about and then after a thoughtful pause, threw back his head and creeled loudly. Tiael chuckled, filling the noisy open maw with more meat. This quickly disappeared, and Tiael instantly supplied a third and fourth, much smaller pieces.

Apparently satisfied for now, the Blue yawned widely, licked his snout and them promptly flopped out along Tiael's arm. Satisfied and rather happy with his luck of a well trained food source. Grinning, Tiael slipped back from the crowds. A name would wait, she needed time to think. At least he was cute.

Curse Your Sudden But Inevitable Betrayal

Hearing Bo's enthusiastic greeting Lena looked to her left and beamed at the Candidate. “Hey!” she greeted him just as enthusiastically. “They're really adorable” she responded as they both turned back to watch the hatchlings. Beside her Bo seemed to be practically bouncing with each new arrival and she turned her head to smile at him when she felt a pang of hunger and the meat snatched from her fingers.

Turning back to the hatching, Lena's eyes went wide at the small green now sitting on her back legs, her hands rested against the Harper's fingers. A pitiful creel escaped the Green and another pang of hunger hit the girl. Lena had barely extended another chunk of meat before the flit was gobbling it up.

Beaming at Bo's congratulations, Lena looked up and did her best to not let her smile fall as she suddenly felt incredibly guilty. “Thank you,” she managed, hoping he wouldn't be too mad at her. He loved flits more then anyone she'd ever met - and wanted one so badly - but somehow she had ended up with one. Her grin faded, however, at his question. “A name?” she asked, looking back at the flit and biting her bottom lip. She hadn't realized she'd need to name her. Blinking down at her new companion, Lena fed the Green a few more pieces while she pondered, then offered a hand for the flit to climb onto when she was ready.

Bo's voice distracted Lena as her Green was cautiously climbing onto the Harper's hand. Her jaw dropped for a moment before a wide grin spread across her face and she watched as he named the Blue. It had been so easy for Bo - why was she having such a difficult time naming hers? “He's really handsome,” she said, still grinning as she raised her hand and her flitt hopped onto her shoulder happily and crooned to Silence. “Should we grab some food?” Lena asked after a pause.

Almost immediately he began to resent his choice of kneeling down in front of the countertop, as people pressed in around him. Standing, he watched the flitters as they nudged their way out into the greater world. But it seemed a rather advantageous spot, as he was on a similar level to the youngsters, not towering over them. Being partial to greens, the bright green with the bronze ticking caught his eye and he started to stretch out his hand and mind toward her. But when she spun on and challenged her brothers, he withdrew, deciding he didn't want that many bad-tempered teeth near his face. The bronze he eyed with admiration, but he did not actively attempt to snag him. As fantastic as it would be to have a bronze, he had his heart set on a green; greens being the flitters whose voices best complimented his own. With that in mind, he let go past the blue as well, though it was a near thing with the little one's striking pale hide.

The next few were struggling their way from the nest, and did he see...? He did! His eyes lit happily upon the green hesitating as her more brilliantly colored brother ventured forth. He waved the lure and clucked gently to her, thinking only of how pretty she was and how he wished she would come to him, what songs they could sing. She bolted! But she skittered right underneath his hands and toward someone else. Feeling a bit disheartened by this, his positive thoughts slipped sideways as a blue the color of jeweler's velvet slunk right past him to accept food from a chap with an eye patch. Another blue followed and Q'wyn sighed, turning his head to see if he could find the little runaway green.

A gasp and a muffled exclamation turned his head back around in time to see two flits side by side. The blue was beautiful, the light catching flashes of silver in his hide and his perfectly shaped head turning from side to side as he surveyed the crowd. Turning his attention to the gold flit. he whistled low in approval. She was beautiful indeed, and she knew it too. Her preening reminded him affectionately of Jumeeth when she was being observed, though this flit was far more outright in her flaunting. Admiring the way her hide flashed like a small sun captured on the countertop and wondering what it might be to sing with such accompaniment, he was startled to find a weight on his wrist and his scrap of food completely gone. In one smooth move she had taken the food and landed on his wrist, curling her tail possessively around it and staring up at him in expectation. With the numb calmness of one in shock, he fed his impromptu bracelet the rest of his purloined scraps as he stood precariously and walked away.

Jumeeth! He called in giddy excitement, grabbing an abandoned bowl still half-full of scraps and sliding piece after piece to his new charge until a hazy feeling of sleepy contentment drifted out to him. He walked out just as Jumeeth was landing. The little flit didn't cower in terror as Jumeeth inclined her head forward to sniff gently at her but stretched her neck to touch noses, crooning happily. Both rider and dragon were utterly smitten by this, Jumeeth crooning back as Q'wyn tentatively pet the gold's tiny neckridges.

What will we name her? Jumeeth asked, completely absorbed in watching the now-sleeping flit.

"Hmm...how about..." he looked down at her, struggling to find a name that wasn't too over the top. "How about Rose? Rose," he decided, when she chirred softly in response. " Jumeeth warbled her acceptance of the moniker and the two of them just stood there a little while, watching the newest member of their small family with something like wonder.

Meat was brought out from the kitchens and V'sili found a small bowl of it shoved into his hands before he even knew what to say or do. Looking around, he saw other people with food, waving morsels towards the firelizards that were now emerging; it was as if there was no food crisis at Vaioa at all. The thought of it was slightly amusing, but V'sili pushed it aside, ready to focus on the hatchlings.

It was only seconds later that V'sili realized he had no idea what he was supposed to do. While others shuffled forward, trying to get closer, he just stood and watched, bewildered. Glancing around, he noted that others were offering their meat to the firelizards; that was what the little creatures seemed to be focusing on, anyway. Vaguely, he could remember hearing that the way to Impress one was to feed it. Seeing as how hungry Epolith was when he hatched, it made sense to V'sili.

Currently, three firelizards were unattached. V'sili watched them as best as he could through the crowd and reached out, a strip of meat dangling in his fingers. He felt silly, but... this was what everyone else was doing. He wiggled it a little for good measure, then sighed. There were so many people here, what was the point?

Something collided with his leg and he flinched, looking down in surprise to see one of the firelizards. She was a bright green, marked with bronze. Realizing his chance, he offered her the morsel and grinned when she snatched it up. It was gone in a second, but by the time she had finished there was another in her face. Crouching, V'sili fed her until her tiny belly was round and his bowl was empty. He gathered her in his arms - she was apparently too full to care - and carried her away from the commotion and back to his corner.

Epolith, I've Impressed a firelizard, V'sili said, smiling down at the creature cradled in his arms. The tiny green yawned and blinked at him, her miniature faceted eyes wheeling. Shards, she was cute. He brought up a hand to scratch her belly and gave a shout of alarm and pain when the green's tiny head shot forward and snapped at his finger. "Shards!" Crackdusted lizard had bit him! He was actually bleeding!

Not so cute now, Epolith teased from their weyr. When can I see her? Come show me!
