Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Candidate
Most of the Candidate's Barracks was quiet. It was a little before ten in the morning and most of the candidates were finishing up their morning chores before they retreated to get ready for lunch, which would take place in about two hours. Outside, the sun was shining down like it had been in the past winter months without a cloud promisng rain(or more likely snow) to be seen across the horizan. Today it was only slightly warmer then it had been the day before, though it was still a lukewarm tempature outside like it was usually on these winter days in Vaioa. Inside in the Candidate's Barracks it was only slightly warmer thanks to the rock walls and the little insulation they provided. Most if not all of the rooms were empty with the beds inside perfectly made and the area around well kept and free of any and all debres. The hall was lite by the candles arranged stratigicaly on the walls and were also mostly empty except for a lone figure quietly strolling down the main hall way towards the common's area.

The figure was a female about 5'3" with practially white hair dangling down her back back and across her sholders. It was long, about waist lengh, and at the moment free of a runner's tail and let down to flow freely. It shimmered as the light of the candle's touched it softly. It was easy to tell that this female was lost or atleast not completely sure about where she was going. Her rich, caramel brown eyes glanced down each hall way has she walked as if she was hoping someone would appear and show her the way, but, of course, no one did since they were all at their morning chores. However, even though she seemed lost and clueless about where she was or where she was suppossed to go, she had a definent bounce in her step. She swong her head to her right as she passed yet another hallway. This hallway was like all the others she had passed, deserted. On both sides there were doors, all which would open up into a candidates room, and all would be empty for the candidates were off doing chores and preparing for lunch. She took her gaze off of the empty hallway flinging her hair back behind her shoulder in the process, looking like a wave being pulled back out to see. Her dark eyes drifted back to the path in front of her were they settled. This figure was Kruiie, the newest candidate of the Vaioa Weyr and ex-member of the Vaioa hold.

Earlier that day she had been searched by a massive, blue dragon and it's rider and they had found that she had a chance of impressing. She didn't know how the dragon had known this nor what made her a candidate to impress, but here she was now stroling down the candidate's barracks where she would be living in till she, hopefully, impressed. She had just gotten done settling in her own room that she had been given when she arrived here about a hour or so earlier. She hadn't of brought many things along with her, and it hadn't taken her long for her to get her things organized. What had really taken her so long was finding her room along with the candidate's quarters. The weyr was massive and she had learned this quickly when she had gotten lost moment after been given her room number and direactions to it. She had never really been good with directions. She ran through the directions she had been given in her head. At twelve, she was suppossed to go down to the mess hall and eat lunch or was that at eleven... She couldn't remember now, though she had thought it was at twelve. The person who had given her the directions, the candidate's master or something like that, had mentioned a thing about what she should be doing now at ten, nearly two hours before she was supossed to eat lunch, and she hadn't a idea where to find him, or anyone else that might help her.

Kruiie finally stoped at the far edge of the massive, common room in the candidate's wing sighing quietly as she sunk down in a chair in front of a table that seemed to have been there for the porpose of studying or maybe sitting and listening to lectures, which she had been assured would take place from time to time. The table wasn't very big only sitting two people or maybe three if someone pulled a chair up. She glanced up at the candle on the wall a few paces from herself, it read 10, maybe alittle before or a little after she couldn't really tell from her prospective against the wall. Rising from the door a few strides from her, which lead out into the rest of the weyr voices rose, they sounded about her age, but she couldn't tell either way. Maybe the rest of her peers where coming back to the barracks for a little r and r or lecture or something of the sort. Her caramel eyes lifted from the table to the door as she waited for it to open, or she was going to be forced to go out and find someone, though she would probably only achieve in getting herself lost...again.

Candidate
Alonso had managed to sneak away from chores for the second time this sevenday, three candlemarks before it was time for lunch... ...or rather before he had to scurry off to somewhere else so the Candidate master couldn't catch him with the other and send him elsewhere to work. Work was just so... bothersome and tedious. He did enjoy some parts of it, understood the necessity of most of it... ...but it was still annoying. He had spend the better part of a full candlemark hunting down a small tunnelsnake down in the inner caverns, capturing and killing the frail creature with his beltknife after a merry chase through the storerooms. It had probably fled there from the cold outside, seeking shelter just as everyone else did. He felt quite exalted at his successful catch, cheery even and stroked the head of his brown firelizard. Fleck was the true reason he had been able to catch the tunnelsnake. He was a skilled hunter and really enjoyed pleasing his master, making soft coo-ing noises at him. "Good boy... You did great. Just let me skin this little beast and we can both share some of the meat...", he told his companion as he approached the Candidate Barracks.

They were supposedly deserted by now, the other Candidates just about now finishing up their chores and taking a break before lunch. Enough time to slip inside the Barracks, prepare his own meal and sneak away again before he could be caught by the superiors. The door creaked in its hinges as he pushed it open and slipped inside, shutting it right behind him again. He started heading towards the tunnels leading deeper inside the barrack and then froze suddenly. There was a girl sitting at one of the tables... ...she wasn't supposed to be there! The place was supposed to be deserted another few moments before anyone else arrived. Had someone send her here?

Alonso narrowed his eyes suspiciously, glancing her up and down, frozen in place. A small, dead tunnelsnake dangled from his hand, a brown Firelizard sat upon his shoulder - both staring at the girl in frozen silence. Then he caughed and straightened up a little, making his best effort to not looking caught. "Aren't you supposed to be doing chores?", he asked cautiously. She was a small one, he thought, her hair unusually light blonde. It seemed almost white in the dim light inside the hall. She seemed harmless enough, sitting at a small table a few strides away. But Alonso had been caught skipping chores too often to not smell a trap everywhere, whenever he was doing something he wasn't supposed to do. What should he do now? Continue down the hall and further into the Barracks? Wait and see what she did so he could turn on his heels and make a run for it? It wasn't snowing just now... but it was still sharding cold outside and his plans didn't include running from the superiours just yet. Maybe... she was skipping chores aswell? He paused, a thoughtfull frown on his face. Maybe. Maybe not. She looked too nice for that. So wait and see it was. For now at least.

Candidate
The sound of a creaking door interrupted the silence that lay in the air like a soft glow, welcomed, but undesired. She shifted her soft gaze towards the door that served has an entrance into the Candidate’s Barracks as it was slowly being pushed open. Quickly, but cautiously a boy slipped inside. He was considerably taller then Kruiie herself was and was lean instead of muscular like most boys around the Weyr were. He wore hair the color of the sky in the darkest night, a deep black. It rose from his head in tis way and that and, all in all, was the opposite of her own, which was a light blond and neatly brushed and put into place. His eyes were the deepest green and held a state of awareness and cautiousness she had not been expecting from someone strolling in after getting his work done for the day. She recognized those eyes from somewhere, though she was almost positive that she had not meet this boy before and expected that this was her memory connecting these eyes to someone she had known in the past, not her memory telling her she knew this boy from her past. From this prospective she could tell that he was holding something, though she could not see nor tell what exactly it was. She could, however, see the brown firelizard perched on his shoulder. It was a muscular thing, well equipped to hunting, though it was about average size for a brown firelizard. The older boy seemed unaware of her presence for the first few seconds after his arrival taking a few steps in the direction of the rooms before freezing on awareness of someone else in the room. He froze in front of her and she could clearly see what was in his hand, a tunnel snake, a dead one. Boys at her hold often made a sport out of catching and killing these poor creatures, so it really didn't surprise her that the boy across from her held one and maybe even took place in these games, if they took place at the Weyr. What did surprise her, however, was the fact that this boy was most likely a candidate and had the time to go around and catch tunnelsnakes for his own enjoyment.

For the next few moments they stared at each other, her in a quiet curiousness and him in a heavy suspicion like she had just stood up and swiped the tunnel snake from his hand. His gaze was so heavy, in fact, that she shifted uncomfortably in her chair trying unsuccessfully to escape his gaze. The silence hung around them in a heavy blanket and the air seemed charged with an uncomfortable sensation between the two of them. She felt as if she would suffocate if the silence lasted must longer. "Aren't you supposed to be doing chores?” His voice broke the silence though it wasn't as friendly of helpful as she would have liked in her situation, it was better then letting the silence drag on. Chores? She had remembered the Candidate Master mentioning something about chores that she would have to do in the morning and afternoon, but had not said anything about her going to complete them after getting her belongings carefully put away in her room. He had only said something about lunch, which wasn't going on at the moment if she was supposed to be doing chores as a candidate and explained what she was supposed to do with the rest of the day and how a normal day would go by as a candidate. She quietly rose from her chair, her hair rising like a fluttering bird behind her and her soft, brown eyes resting on the taller, older boy across from her. When she stood she noticed just how tall the other boy was. She came up to his shoulder, if not a little higher and would have easily been intimidated if it wasn't for the fact that he was lean instead of muscular.

"I just arrived here this morning", She said in a quiet, soft voice quiet different from the tone he had asked the question in "If I am supposed to be doing chores then I am not aware of this fact, but, since I am guessing you are a Candidate also, shouldn't you be doing chores?” Her voice was not accusing in the lest. It was simply curious like a child asking about a new concept she had just learned existed. Her eyes were soft and gentle holding his own gaze in a soft, escapable bond. If he was in fact supposed to be doing chores and had been sent away on other business or was simply not doing them, then she would not look down on him or run off like a holdbrat and rat him out. She guessed that chores would be rather boring and if he had the gut to sneak away from his responsibilities and run off hunting tunnel snakes then kudos to him. She shifted on to her right foot, which she usually favored, her soft curves shifting with her quietly as her hair rustled softly a hint of gold noticeable from the soft light of the Barracks.
