Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Charm
Candidate
Jayrel mostly expected Brantor to recoil, and for his little game of cat-and-mouse to begin. These games of riling up straight guys until they were dead scared of him were fun, but there was always a slight melancholy note to it, one he never outwardly acknowledged. Secretly, he always hoped they'd turn and return his flirting. So it was a pleasant surprise when, instead of a glare, Brantor turned about with a spreading grin and a roving look that Jayrel immediately recognized. At this sign of acceptance, the candidate's stance changed just slightly - still alert, but more relaxed, his feet settling on the ground instead of on his toes, ready to duck or pursue. So he'd found someone willing to play his game, and on the first try! What luck! Perhaps those grey dragons were lucky, he thought, wryly, glancing over at Eyoith. Or perhaps Faranth really was trying to make up for the rubbish day he'd had. Either way, Jayrel'd take it. When life gives you lemons and all that.

Brantor seemed to like what he saw; Jayrel felt a flash of pride when the other boy's gaze lingered on his hair, which he'd put special effort into styling this morning. He was afraid it had wilted a bit from the fumes in the Infirmary, but apparently it was still noteworthy. Good. Real men appreciated the effort he put into his hair! For his part, he'd already taken the time to examine his target, but there was no harm in a second look, was there? Brantor was rocking the tall, dark, and handsome thing.

His body's instinct was to step back when the larger candidate moved closer to him, but he didn't. He didn't want to step back. If anything, he wanted to lean forward and rest his hand against that chest, reach up toward that face, but he kept himself in check. Too early! They hadn't had any fun yet. Of course, he'd known Brantor was interested long before the significant "friendly" passed through his lips, but the flirting pleased Jayrel. It was what he was good at. And the game was so much more interesting when he had a worthy competitor. "Well, I saw you over her looking so lonely, and I couldn't help myself. I'm just so philanthropic, you know. Can't help but help others." Insert sly wink here.

Brantor didn't beat around the bush, did he? Jayrel knocked back his glass, savoring the bite of it. Not as good as smooth Benden, but Tillek had its merits. When he was finished, he leaned forward slightly. "Well, darling, me being such a philanthropic sort, I don't suppose I could say no." He was adapting to Brantor's style of flirting, but his final comment made Jayrel laugh out loud. He really wasn't subtle at all, was he? Still, that growl in his voice had effects, the least of which was the shiver that ran down his spine. "So forward!" he tutted. "Why, I barely know you, love." He lifted his face a touch closer to Brantor's, and ever so slightly ran a finger along the man's arm. "What makes you think I'm going to go off on my own with a man I hardly know?" he purred. "Who knows what could happen?" Perhaps Brantor wanted to cut to the chase, but Jayrel didn't play that way. He'd adjust his ways to accomodate for Brantor's bluntness - but he had to have his fun.

A surge of delight raced up his arm at Eyoith's insistent nosing. He instinctively caressed her rounded head, watching her lids curl down in unexpected pleasure... Adding a small skritch behind her headknobs experimentally. No, she wasn't quite like a dog; she could speak, for one thing, and seemed a great deal more intelligent, although he had known some intelligent canines anyway. But her hide-- it was so soft! Lindell marveled at the feeling. It was smooth, and felt surprisingly like skin. When he'd ridden Airith he had been to focused on not hurting her as he climbed up and then had been too breathless with the sudden flying sensation to reflect on it. But Eyoith's hide under his hand was astonishing. How could this keep them free of cold from /between/?

He watched Olayla, nodding to himself at her words. So then, you really had to put your dragonet first. And it really was like having... an extension of yourself. Lindell wondered how you could really hide your feelings, if the dragon was in your head. If there was something that embarrassed you, would your dragon know? Lindell bit his lip. He'd heard that newborn dragons were possessive, but looking down at Eyoith, she seemed only delighted at all the attention she and Olayla were getting.
