Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Life at the Weyr was so incredibly different than her life up until that point and though Alaeria had only been there for a short time so far, she certainly had not adjusted to it yet. There seemed to be so many other candidates, which meant that there was almost always someone else about and she was finding it much more difficult to fade into the background like she had so grown accustomed to. Just being there was pushing her so far out of her comfort zone every day and it was not something that was sitting well with her as of yet.

Alaeria had already discovered her favorite parts of the day were the times when they were to do their chores, as it allowed her to put her head down and simply work. The best part about it was the fact that it was the only familiar thing that she had found really since arriving at Vaoia Weyr. She was used to working... it was what she had done day in and day out for most of her life. She often took comfort in that familiarity and when her chores were done for the day she found herself looking forward to the morning chores.

The only other part of her days since she had arrived as a candidate that she did enjoy had to be the lessons. It was exciting to be able to learn about the dragons and everything they would need to know should they be lucky enough to Impress one. She had never really had lessons of any sort before so it was certainly a new experience and one that she thoroughly enjoyed, even if she did do her best to go unnoticed in every lesson... or at the very least not draw unwanted attention on herself.

That evening, she had made her way to her room immediately after dinner and had intended on hiding in there the rest of the evening as she had every other night that she had been at the weyr so far. She had hardly even spoken to her bunkmate really...

After a short time though, Alaeria began to mentally scold herself. She was hiding and she was well aware of that fact. If she was to be a dragonrider some day, she would certainly have to be braver than she was now... so perhaps she should try and confront some of the things that made her so utterly uncomfortable now so that when she did Impress, whenever that may be, she would have at least made some personal progress... right? It took some time, but eventually she had managed to get over the intense desire to remain hiding in her room. She wandered out into the common room, making herself comfortable while she began her inner monologue with herself once again. She may have gotten over her need to disappear long enough to make an appearance, but she would need more time to convince herself to get past her shyness enough to start a conversation with another. Perhaps she would get lucky and someone else would take the initiative that she surely lacked at the moment but in the meantime, her inner monologue continued.

Evening was Nenyk's absolute favorite time of the day and not simply because there was no chores to be done or lessons to be learned. Okay, the lessons really weren't bad at all. In fact most of them was fairly exciting and fun, especially the ones that had allowed him close contact with dragons. The more he was around the magnificent creatures the more he wanted to be a dragonrider himself. No, evening was his favorite time of the day simply because it was so peaceful. He could take satisfaction in knowing that he had put in a hard day's work and had every right to do absolutely nothing until it was lights out.

At the moment he was sitting sideways in one of the more cushioned chairs in the common room. He had already changed into sleep-wear, but they were conservative enough that he wasn't embarrassed to be seen in public with it on. In one hand he had a hot cup of klah and in the other was a writing stick. On his lap was a tablet with an old piece of writing hide that he was using to doodle on. Nenyk wasn't a good drawer by any means, but he found it some what relaxing to draw. It made his mind go blank and not dwell on any one problem or worry.

As he was putting the finishing touches on the baby dragon he was drawing, he noticed out of the corner of his eye someone else enter the common room. He recognized her face, but he couldn't put a name to her. In fact, he didn't think he'd seen her in the common room at all. He wasn't a mind reader or anything, but he couldn't help but think that the girl had a look on her face that said she felt a bit overwhelmed. Nenyk couldn't blame her, he hadn't been here much longer than she had and he was still getting use to the place.

Feeling a bit sorry for the girl as she just stood there looking like she wasn't sure what to do next, Nenyk put down his drawing and klah on the small stand next to him and got up. He didn't want to intrude on the girl, but she looked like someone that could use a conversation, so he walked up to her with a crooked smile on his face. He gave her a slight bow before saying, "M'lady. I'm Nenyk. I don't believe we've had the pleasure of introducing ourselves before."
