Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

• The Western Continent of Pern has widely been regarded as being uninhabitable, wild and unruly. Well, it had been considered that up until the 9th Interval. Plenty of time has gone by since the Western Continent was inhabited, and it's been thriving ever since. Some Northerners still think the place is overrun with criminals, where individuals from the Southern Continent seem to ignore it's existence completely. Sure, the beginnings of the Western Continent is a bit shady, the original settlers were the Outcasted and the Holdless, banished there to keep them away from the rest of Pern. The misunderstood are always often seen in the wrong light, and such would be the tale of those who flocked to the islands.

Over the turns the people have thrived, and more and more crafters and families have broken away to inhabit the land of the West. Granted, it's now the 11th Pass. Since the beginnings of the Western Continent things have become rather sophisticated. There's three Holds and a Weyr fully established in the Western Continent now after around 300 turns. The establishments of the Western Continent have seen their fair share of natural disasters already. Crask Weyr, through all it was stalked up against, has survived and flourished admirably. Famines, diseases and strife has run rampant, but the Weyr, and the Continent, is ever growing and present.

The Sr. Weyrwoman of Crask Weyr and her Gold, Nurmenth, have through the past fifty turns been unable to provide the Weyr with another Gold. That is, until now. The Weyr is fresh out of a two-turn run with an epidemic that caused sickness, one particularly deadly to the elderly and the infants of the Weyr. As if that wasn't rough enough, Threadfall has been consistent and dangerous. With the Weyr's health back on track and a large clutch on the Sands, many of the members of Crask think it's a brilliant sign of luck that one of the large egg is a mottled gold. What is unfortunate is that that disease did take a particularly hard hit on the Weyrwoman, since she was a bit, ah, older of age. The Weyrwoman is of failing health, and all that's keeping her and her Gold from betweening is the prospect of seeing that this clutch ends well.

Many of the Weyrbrats have been complaining of night terrors and bumps in the night, scary shadow demons that call out and sing. Is it anything worth paying attention to? Perhaps it's just coincidence, but these rumors have been floating around the Holds as well.
All three of them.

WE ARE
‣ brand spankin' new
‣ a little bit crazy
‣ possibly introducing some mutations
‣ roasting a dragon clutch on the sands
‣ looking for all sorts of characters
‣ harboring some nightmare creatures

OCTOBER UPDATE
• Nurmenth's last clutch has hatched, as with it came some unusual surprises. Physical mutations cropped up on some of the dragons, but so far they seem healthy as even, even if few of them are a few limbs too many or a few too short. Rumor says the old queen wasn't fit to lay this clutch, and that the proof is in those mutated hatchlings, and of course there's that twisting dark seed of whispers that keep floating about. No matter what the cause, the hatchlings are here and making waves. The Weyrwoman's health is steadily going downhill, with the clutch over there is little left to keep her motivated enough to fight. Thread is falling, weyrlings are growing, and nightmares are seeding everywhere. The weyrbrats still complain of them, and even a few of the more sensitive dragonets are picking up on the rising anxiety.
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
• [size0]NIGHTMARES
Some of you can choose to have your hatchling dragons pick up on this anxiety. Whether or not the rider pays any attention to that is absolutely up to you.

[size0]APOTHECARIES
While the weyrbrats and children have been getting bothered some adults have a sneaking suspicion that is has to do with the APOTHECARIES. Newly cropping up after the beginning of the epidemic that raged the Weyr was a new brand of craft. They dealt with chemicals, and swear that they were out to find the cause for the diseases, and find a way to prevent them. They still claim that, even though they seem to be brewing more than they like to let on. The apothecaries aren't a branded craft, but rather picked up by other craftmembers who sought to aid them in their discoveries. They're Healers, Harpers, Wavers, Glassblowers, they're people you see at the Weyr and people who inhabit all three Holds on the Western Continent, and they won't breathe a word of the work they do in these apothecaries. Are they sworn to secrecy, or up to no good?

WE ARE
-needing some of these suspicious individuals, holdfolk and weyrfolk
-very limited availability of some weyrling adoptables
-experiencing mutations of the physical sort
