Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

She hated the thought that it was actually time to move on. Move on from what she wasn’t even sure... She had just gotten to start to know Cayden, and already the cot at the other side of the room was empty. The chest had been cleared out, and the girl had picked up and moved on to the weyrling barracks. She had a grey now, and from what she’d briefly seen of the dragonet, it was quite beautiful. She was lucky. Chances were she wouldn’t see Cayden again, not until she was graduated. Maybe she’d see her around the Weyr, if she was lucky herself, on the rare occasion. Cayden would have lessons with her new dragonet to attend to, and Zane would continue to attend candidate lessons-as was mandatory. Then there were the chores that the candidates had to tend to also. Zane didn’t mind hard work; it kept her mind off of other things. It gave her a purpose too.

For now she had a bit of time to just wander around. She would’ve preferred to stay in her room, like usual, but something was compelling her to go for a walk. Volcom seemed to like the idea, for he was flittering about the room, going back and forth from the entranceway to the far back wall. She’d fed him that morning, so he had a full belly, otherwise she would’ve brought him to the kitchens to try and pick out some suitable breakfast for him. He’d be hungry later, so she could hit up the kitchens then. Uh, how she hated to have to be among other people. It stressed her out, badly. Even with Volcom there. She just couldn’t shake the nervousness that being around other people created in her.

Leaving her room, turning to look back into it reluctantly, Zane brought nothing with her. She didn’t need anything, just herself, and her blue would follow. Volcom chirruped a greeting to her, and she smiled up at him sweetly. He was staying higher up, preferring to be airborne Zane found; unless he was perched comfortably on her shoulder, or snuggled up against her chest. He was affectionate, and it was good for her. Zane needed the affection Volcom offered seeing as she couldn’t manage to try to attain affection from other people. She walked down the hall rather slowly, not in any hurry to get nowhere. She nearly stumbled trying to walk one foot in front of the other. She had the worst balance out of anyone she knew. She didn’t have a proper arch in her foot, so she didn’t get the needed support that would’ve given her better balance had she had it. It’s not like it mattered to her, not much. It was only when she was falling into people, or tripping over things. It had a lot to do with her not watching where she was going too.

”Quiet Volcom, you might bother someone,” she said, her voice barely above that of a whisper. The blue craned his neck to look down at her, wondering what it was she was so worried about. It was day, people were out and about. Not everyone was reserved like His. He’d come to notice that there was something different about her, or maybe different was just not quite right.

Isolde wasn't feeling well and she had a feeling that it had somthing to do with getting drunk after the hatching and throwing herself at N'cek because she hadn't impressed. She would never admit to N'cek, but she was glad that he hadn't responded to her advances in earnest. Or rather, at least he'd had the good sense to tell her no. She might have been annoyed and upset at the time, but when she'd woken up the next morning it was hard not to feel grateful. He wasn't such a jerk, sometimes.

Anyway, Isolde still felt marvelously guilty about getting drunk in the first place and she'd spent every moment from the morning after (as soon as she didn't feel like she was going to die) doing odd jobs all over the weyr as if working would make up for the meltdown. Today she was feeling especially ill because of it, and one of the riders who knew her only through N'cek practically dragged her all the way to the healer, threatening to tell their bluerider friend the whole way there. It was very rude, Isolde thought, but he scoffed when she told him as much and dumped her in the arms of a healer who promptly told her that she had over exerted herself and was to go straight to her room for the rest of the afternoon.

And so that's where Isolde was headed along with her own blue Firelizard, Bard, who liked to hang from Isolde's back as she walked, wings hugging the girl's head, and chirruped at everything that passed.

It was good luck and good fun to see another person with a Blue, and Bard trilled in excited fancy as His passed the other girl and her lizard. When he realized that Isolde was not going to stop to let him play, he cheeped indignantly and scrambled around to launch himself after the new pair, flitting through the air and dipping down to scurry along on the ground behind them for a ways, continuing to tweedle and warble as he bobbed along behind.

Isolde turned to look over her shoulder. "Oh, Bard," she muttered, changing course to go back the way she came. "Leave them well alone, I'm sure they don't want to play with you."
