Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

SO! Starting with the kitties since our girlie is the pet we've had the longest. So starting out, we have a tortoiseshell named Josie, short for Josephine, named after Napoleon Bonaparte's wife. We used to name all of our animals after historical figures, so that's where the name came from if you were wondering. She's about 9-10 years old now and she is sassy and very much a queen. She doesn't like to be cuddled, yet she typically sleeps right by my head or feet at night and is almost constantly right in front of my computer rubbing against me (then again, this is almost always an attempt to get moist food.)

Our other kitty is black with just a few white hairs along his belly. He is the second stray cat that we've adopted. Last summer I had found Scalywag, an orange tabby, at Walgreen's and took him home. That was the same summer I found a couple of toads and gave them pirate names (which I can't currently remember). So hence the pirate name. This black kitty's name is Jolly Roger and until recently when he lost his collar, he had a skull & crossbones collar. And I'm having a hard time finding a picture of him right now. Grr.

And then we have our snake, Ringo, named after the famous outlaw, Johnny Ringo (NOT Ringo Starr). He's a ball python and we've had him for about 9 years now. We got him when we first moved to our current location because we couldn't have any other pets. We had to give Josie to friends of ours. My dad made us research snakes and the cost of keeping one as a pet before we were allowed to get him.

And now we've got the dogs. Our first one that we still have is Kyrie, short for Valkyrie from Norse myth. She was a present for my dad and she is the baby and the queen bee. She loves my dad so much and lives for "Daddy-Kyrie" days when my dad has the day off from work and can spend all day cuddling with her on the couch. She is a Lab/Brittany Spaniel mix that we like to call a Brittador.

Then there's Loki, our goofy full blooded Lab. We got him from a couple with a young child who couldn't have both a puppy and a young child in the same house. They had got him from a breeder that was probably not a very good breeder, given his extreme underbite. He's our big doofus dog who seems to always scare the neighbors with his bark even though he's the least likely to attack.

Finally we have my scaredy-dog, Reggie, who I adopted from my local Humane Society. I think he's an Australian Cattle Dog mix (I think mixed with Pointer, but my mom isn't so sure). He is adorable and scared of everything. If something is on the floor in his path, he will stand there and whimper and whine until you move it. He bolts through tight spaces as well and sleeps in a curled up ball or stretched out. He also snores. Really loudly. teehee

And the turkeys!!! We bought two turkeys for my mom and brother to show at the fair and then to eat for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Well, we only ended up eating one of them, but the second one turned out to be a female and is now giving us turkey eggs in the morning! Their names were first Thanksgiving and Christmas, then it was Dot and Triangle (so named for markings on their heads which were the only way to tell them apart.) Finally they became Spot and Trey. Trey got eaten and Spot gives us eggs. These pictures are of Spot, though I have some of Trey somewhere around here.

I'm not sure how many of my guys actually have pictures on this computer, and I don't have as many as you at the moment, but I can talk about them!

First off: current dogs.

Older: Liath ("light blue; lighter blue; grey; more grey;" Gaelic) 8 year old purebred Australian Shepherd. She's actually too big for the standard because she's about the same size as her dad. She's around sixty pounds, and is blue merle with white and tan points. The merling extends to her eyes. She's border collie-like with balls, prefers ones that fit into her mouth and bounce but doesn't mind being goalie for soccer balls, likes people more than dogs, and talks extensively.

Posted Image

Younger: MacDubh ("black son;" Gaelic) 5 year old SPCA special (mutt). His mother was identifiable as a border collie cross, and he does show the slink from time to time. And his eyes are too close together. He's big (nearly 100 lbs), black (except for a grey chest, toes, and several hairs in the tip of his tail), and mushy. Very mushy. This morning, for example, he helped wake me up by falling over me in his attempts to scratch the side of my face on my knee. And then wandering off to chase his tail for a while. He can jump a five foot fence from sitting or standing, and can do the same if he has to pry wires apart first in order to fit. No video of this, but eyewitness accounts exist. He is dominant but really can't back up his demands, and is still learning to greet dogs politely and slowly; we just moved into the city last year.

The Cat. Pandora. Fifteenish. Grey and white (grey on the top of her head, back, tail, all that jazz. No pics but she's cool. Not a big cat, and she has been starved for attention since we moved since my mom stopped letting her on the couch and locks her in the basement to keep her from going on it. There's only so much I can do, and my dad is allergic to her and always has been. She's a retired indoor/outdoor mouser, is going senile but still loves catnip, and seems to only be able to track movement past five feet or so. Her hearing may also be starting to go.

Then there are some fish.

Past animals include numerous cats (with endings ranging from died inexplicably to car-meetings to accidentally left behind in a move to intentionally left behind in a move; that was Ink/Inca the garage cat who only came in the house to tell us to feed her), innumerable fish, three budgies (one died, and the other two were released into the wild, thanks to my parents when it turned out that my dad was allergic to them too), and several dogs. In chronological order: the wolf-malamute cross, Kai, who was awesome but died at ~fifteen by walking in front of car (yes, intentionally; he was hypothyroidic with extensive arthritis and a tumour on his leg, although in his last year he did catch and kill both wild rabbits and tame chickens); and Murren the purebred Scottish Deerhound, who had a skin condition that made her smelly (she had her own chair), was the least intelligent of all our dogs, ever, but is the only one to date who could open a door (lever handle), and died at five of torsion and a vet who delayed unnecessarily. Wait, is that only two? Hm. -thinks- Right, the rest of them were before I was born, so they really don't apply.

Potential future animals: depends on where I end up when I move to Saskatchewan for my third/fourth years next year. A dog is preferred (i.e. my Liath), and my next preference is a bird. An intelligent bird. If I feel too broke, a budgie or lovebird. Otherwise, I'd like a senegal or brown-headed. Or hawk-headed; they're cool too. If that fails, I'm willing to go cat or snake, but I'm concerned about the interaction level of a snake. My main issue with fish is that there's no interaction and I get bored. You just can't *do* anything with them. I am open to persuasion on the earlier points XD

Tater and Nem, your pets are beautiful, such personality!

First of all, this is a great idea for a thread. I love to show off my animals! :D

My dog, Jasper, is a corgi, as I'm sure you would have figured out. He is about three years old, but I've only had him for a year. I rescued him from the HumaneSociety. He was pretty much starving to death before he was turned in. You could see his ribs and feel all of his backbone when you petted him. The Humane Society was also pretty sure he had mange (which he didn't) and worms (which he did).

So, he has been with me for a year and looks nothing like his former self.He follows me around everywhere and protects me from squirrels and stuffin the backyard.

How he was when I got him Posted Image
How he is today Posted Image

I also have a video of Jasper in the snow here, because I'm cruel to my animals. :P

While Jasper is my dog he is always hanging out with other dogs. My sister'sdog, Marty, is an English Springer Spaniel. She is around six years old and is one of Jasper's good friends.

Posted Image

The last dog on the list is the pup, my Mom's new dog, Sandy. He's a cocker spaniel. Jasper and Sandy do not get along. Jasper continually tries to herd Sandy (like corgis do) and Sandy thinks its all a very fun game (which Jasper hates). Currently the two of them have dog training together at Petsmart.

Posted Image

Now back to my own pets. Besides Jasper I have betta fish, one red one in a red habitat and a blue one in a blue habitat. :P It's hard to take pictures of fish, so no pictures of them. I also keep hermit crabs. The hermits I have now I have mostly been with me for a little less than a year. Here's a pictureof one of them.

Haha, you asked for it. I can be as crazy of a cat lady as any of them once I get started. We have three cats (and that is it, at the moment).

The oldest is Callie, who is at least 14.

Posted Image

Callie is my mom's cat. The trophy cat. She has arthritis and has a little trouble getting around. She's very shy, though she's become more friendly to us family people as she's gotten older, and at the very hint of us having company, she finds somewhere to hide. She does not allow anybody but mom to pick her up, but she'll beg for petting.

The middle cat is Hobbes, 7.

Posted Image

Hobbes is my and my sister's cat. She sleeps in our room every night (and most of the day as well.) She is a snugglebug and an attention ho. Hobbie is tiny and very docile - she'll put up with almost anything - and she loves being petted and paid attention to so much, all you have to do is say her name to start her purring. She gets bullied by the youngest cat, and has licked her belly bald (and occasionally raw).

Our youngest cat is Tigerlilly, 4.

Posted Image

Lilly (also known as Lillybug, Lillybutt, and just Butt) is my dad's... erm, "dog." She is massive, weighing in at about 12 pounds of solid muscle. She plays rough and doesn't have much at all in the way of dignity. You can tell what she is thinking just by looking at her. She's also the only one of our cats that refuses table scraps containing meat; she much prefers vegetables like lettuce.

Here's a comparison between Hobbie and Lilly (and also between me and my sister).

Previous pets of mine include several fish (I was amazing at the "toss the ball in the fishbowl and win a fish" carnival games), as well as two mice, Chica (who was tan) and Taggit (who was albino). I love mice as pets; they're smart and surprisingly affectionate.

^_^ Okay, here are my favorite pets.

Posted Image

This is Yorick, my puppy dog. He's hardly presentable here, though. I'm giving him a better bath so I'll have a good picture tomorrow. :B

Posted Image

Horace Horsecollar is there on my top shelf. :) Tweety bird is up there too, but she's small and in a jar, so she's hard to see.

Posted Image

Here's Bucky the deer and Whiskers the bobcat. :D They're posing for the camera! How cute.
