Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Welcome to Lellinias Weyr! We are a non-canon DRoP RPG set at the end of the 7th Pass. One thousand eight hundred and eight turns have passed since Landing and Thread will again disappear for another 250 years, to the relief all Pernese. The past 50 turns have been difficult on everyone, but now that the Pass is soon to end, everyone across the continents are looking forward to a time of rest and peace. As always, the Holds did not want to support the Weyrs during the interval as they had during the Pass. It was a common theme, occurring interval after interval. Self-sufficiency had already been mentioned during numerous conclaves. Weyrleaders were not eager to confront the issue and the Lord Holders were smart enough not to press them too hard. Together, the Weyrleaders of Pern discussed being independent from the Holds or at least partially independent. In the end, it was decided that being able to provide a portion of their required supplies would be easier for everyone involved.

Fifteen turns before, a group of Dragonriders along with Weyrfolk was sent to the unexplored Western Continent. Why, you ask, were they sent to a place no one had bothered with before? Records from intervals before spoke of the Holds attempting to wean the Weyrs of their assistance and the Weyrs wanted to be prepared firsthand though knowledge of the establishment of a new Weyr was kept from the Lord Holders. When the explorers arrived, they found a wild place where neither man nor dragon had ever stepped foot. Their search was extensive for a place where a Weyr could be carved out and defendable from the local inhabitants that had never seen dragons or humans before. An extinct volcano was discovered and after finding a suitable place for a Hold not too far away, it was claimed as the site of the newest Weyr of Pern. For a time, during the construction of the new Weyr, it was known simply as 'The Weyr.' No one had time to sit down and discuss what it would be named when there was work to be done.

A turn passed before the Weyr had a rough outline of what it would become. The dragonriders that had worked on it so far were asked to suggest names for the Weyr. Many were offered and rejected until a quiet rider stepped forward and spoke two simple words. Lellinias Weyr. No one could mistake the similarity it held to the name of Senior Benden Weyrwoman Lellin. It was Lellin who suggested beginning a self-sufficient Weyr on the Western Continent and it was only right to name it after her. A meeting between the Senior Weyrwomen and their Weyrleaders was called. Once there, it took no time at all to agree on the proposed name. Who wouldn't want to name a Weyr after Weyrwoman Lellin? She was greatly respected across Pern and one of the oldest Weyrwomen alive. So it was decided. No longer would the Western Weyr be nameless. For the rest of its (hopefully long) life, it would be known as Lellinias Weyr.

It would take another three turns for the Lellinias Weyrhold to become a decent home to fifty dragons and their riders along with a small band of Holders that would become the base of the 'hold' part of Lellinias. The Hold was placed at the foot of the volcano that sheltered the dragonriders, a good day's rider by runnerbeast. As their new home formed, the dragonriders, under the leadership of an older experienced Goldrider from Benden, fought Thread when it fell whether it was at Lellinias or someplace else. The turns seemed to fly by as Clutches were laid, projects finished, and leadership switched hands to the rider of a native Lellinias Queen after she was old enough to lead. Lellinias was truly becoming self-sufficient, able to supply itself with the materials it needed whether it was for the Infirmary or food for a dragon's stomach, but it is small in comparison with the much older and more established Weyrs of Pern.

What truly stunned the people of Pern were the radical new colors that seemed to appear in clutches at random at Lellinias. Such dragons had been seen before at the other Weyrs though quite rarely and greeted with great suspicion and hostility. Compared to the numbers from the other Weyrs, the amount of dragons of the new colors was almost commonplace. Maybe there was an unknown contagion in the soil or water of the Western Continent that affected the DNA and RNA of the dragons, but without advanced technology, there was no way for the Pernese to understand. These new colors were bright and healthy like any other dragon on Pern, but their sudden appearance put everyone on edge. It is human nature to be suspicious and resentful of such drastic change of one's everyday life. Individuals that managed to Impress these anomalies were treated warily and it was not uncommon to never see one of them alone or several clustered together because safety in numbers was true for them.

It took five turns, five turns, before riders of the odd dragons weren't looked upon without fear or resentment. There would always be those that despise the new colors, but the rest of Pern were forced to accept that the new colors deserved to live peacefully even if they were different after an unknown individual murdered an innocent Weyrling and her Silver Hatchling. Only Telgar Weyr refused to accept the new colors. In recent turns, Telgarians had become reclusive, rarely taking part in anything that dealt directly with the other Weyrs and it has only become worse. Rumors began to grow as stories of Telgar actions on their own Hatching Sands were told. Rumors that told of the swift death of any new colored Hatchling that stepped onto Telgarian Sands and if they Impressed, were removed to the nearest Weyr. Many a Weyr found quite a confused Weyrling and his or her newborn dragon on their doorstep when the sun rose the next day. Of course, these rumors cannot be proved and the only thing that can be said of the on goings within Telgar are the stories told by the Weyrlings that Telgar abandons, and even then, they do not always speak of what has happened.

Will the old hide-bound riders of Telgar Weyr attack the riders of the new colors? Will the Weyrs be faced with the possibility of dragon versus dragon combat?

Only time will tell…
