Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Wingsecond
C'nar wished he could give himself a good shake out, a much-needed attempt to chase the jitters out of his system before proceeding from the large ledge the bronze pair had landed on. The grey spying his obvious nerves was too great a risk and the last thing he needed was to get flustered and foolish when he was already bad at articulating himself on a good day. He already was on a bad footing with the uncomfortable good set of clothes Dyath had insisted on. He had regret at his dragon's winning the argument over his attire needing to be a bit more than just presentable when facing the new weyrleader. Stiffly dismounting the bronze, he may not have allowed himself a shake, but he did let out a little forceful exhale as he straightened the front of his tunic.

He had been mulling over this idea for a while now, and the steady repetition in council meetings over the state of the northern continent eating away at him. Faranth knew he had plenty of time to think about it in with his unmanagable sleep schedule. With Caylan's election into weyrleader, he had taken it as a sign to see if he could get permission for the thoughts that had been consuming him. He didn't know her personally, but he did recall her, small overlaps of candidacy and weyrlinghood. She'd been part of Rosalind's class. The thought alone made him falter for a moment before he avoided the unnecessary path that thought would draw him down. Turning it around to the fact the greys of Hematite had a way of riling up the hidebound folks of pern.

Dyath was close on his heels as he strode into the mouth of the large weyr. A stiff nod to the grey within as Dyath spoke up in his usual poised manner. Rumbling a greeting as he spoke to the smaller dragon.
"Parath, good afternoon, I believe yours is expecting us. I do hope we won't intrude upon her too much."
C'nar couldn't help but wish he could borrow the bronze's confidence and dignified air that coupled with his silver tongue. He tried to cling to the idea of just being clear and concise with his approach.

Dyath and His are arriving, commented Parath, peering out at the approaching bronze from her spot on the couch. Though curious about their intentions, she didn't react outwardly to their arrival, save for an occasional, idle flick of her tail.

She considered standing, or at least sitting up from her inelegant sprawl - but there was no need for that level of formality, she decided, watching the young man dismount and tug at his jacket. He seemed very serious, and had come well-dressed; no need to make him uncomfortable, if he wasn't already.

Dyath was more poised, and Parath greeted him warmly. Their time as weyrlings had only overlapped by a few months, but they'd been wing-seconds and -leaders together for longer than that, and she was fond of the bronze.
Not at all, she said, scooting back towards the wall to give him some space; the room was large, but not so large that a bronze and grey wouldn't have to do some maneuvering to get around each other. We are pleased to have visitors. How is Granite faring, with the extra Falls?

Caylan, pawing through what seemed like endless paperwork at her desk, had been grateful for Parath's warning. She hadn't known when C'nar might stop by, but she was grateful for the distraction. And not too badly rumpled-looking, either, despite how often she'd run frustrated hands through her hair.

She hadn't known what to make of her appointment to Weyrleader, though she was happy - and humbled - to serve. It hadn't been as difficult an adjustment as she'd feared, if she was honest - but then, she'd served as wingsecond to two of Vaioa's weyrleaders in the past, so perhaps that had given her a pretty comprehensive idea of what she could expect. It just took up so much more of her time, was thing.

Thank Faranth for Parath, honestly - the grey had been exercising ruthless control over her rider's schedule, and Caylan wasn't sure how well she'd have managed her time without that extra bit of help. Parath had taken to their new duties like a duck to water and, what's more, seemed to be enjoying herself immensely, smug little workaholic that she was.

In any case, a visit from C'nar would break up the monotony, and they'd sat on the council together for years now. Whatever he wanted to speak to her about, she felt more confident tackling this conversation than half the tasks she had remaining on today's schedule. Rising from the desk in the antechamber, she strode out to meet him with a smile.
"C'nar, welcome. What can we do for you?"
