Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

The skies above Miner's hold broke as the trio emerged from between. The rain cascading down to patter against both hide and leather. The rain biting exposed skin at the altitude they held before circling downwards. It was still warmer than between, but with even the cold spring that had taken over Vaioa, it was still notably cooler north of the desert.

Landing in the barren courtyard of the hold N'thain unbuckled himself and dismounted, flipping up the collar of his riding jacket. Less to protect his neck from the steadily increasing downpour and more to guard the gold firelizard curled there.
"You know you can go back if you want. I'm sure we'll be fine doing this one without you."
N'thain said to the gold, earning a warm firelizard's equivalent to a scoff near his jaw. Smiling, he reached over and gave an awkward gloved scritch at her small neck.

Omeirth seemed distracted, less so by the abandoned courtyard as to the rain that had made it that way. The cheery blue had his large head raised up to the sky, seemingly to enjoy that patter of rain striking against him. His rider only imagining how cold they would both be between after a liberal coating of water had seeped into them.
"Should I assume there is any point in asking you to find some sort of cover?" N'thain asked up to the blue.
'Nope!' was the quick cheerful response, leaving the man to sigh and shake his head. It didn't remove the smile from his face though until he started towards the hold's doors.

He was glad Fleck decided to stay, knowing she had his back, mining holds often had whers. For him to represent the weyr with any semblance of dignity that was expected, he needed the added support. Even if it was unlikely for the creatures to be up at this hour, there was still that risk of bumping into one. In the face of that fear he took a moment to collect himself before entering the hold. Straightening his riding mused clothes and running his gloved hand through rain-soaked curls, all accompanied by a couple deep breaths.

It didn't take long in the hold for the news of a search to spread. Even before N'thain had been able to approach the Lord Holder with the request and apologize for his doing so with such dreary weather the hopefuls would need to face in order to stand before Omeirth.
A call for people of age and ability to assemble at the large doors that made for the entrance and exit of the hold. N'thain not wanting to have them waiting in the rain while the stragglers fell into line. Plus the last thing he needed to do was get any sort of cold with his current workload and situation back in his own weyr.

It still felt odd for him to stand at attention without Omeirth by his side as curious hopefuls fell into place to listen to his words and instructions. Fleck, nestled close hummed gently at the back of his neck, ever reassuring.

“Dragons come 'round,” a gruff older man muttered to the boy as they walked out of the mines, covered in dirty and sweat. Eihtan merely grunted in response, picking at a blister scab while inspecting the newly raw marks that would raise by the end of dinner.

“Best hurry if yer gonna make it.”

Looking over at the smiling older man, the boy hesitated. He'd stopped going to the searches nearly a year ago, why bother? He was just a miners son, on the path of becoming a miner himself. Why would any dragon choose him? Yet the old man kept looking at him, expectantly, waiting, while the boy just stared back.

“Well, git!”

“Alright,” Eihtan muttered giving a smile before jogging toward the holds entrance.

Rain soaked him, smearing the dirt down his pale skin, and by the time he got there everyone was gathered before the dragon and his rider. Slowing to a walk the lanky boy stopped under a cover, peering over the crowd at the blue, enjoying the rain.

Heart tight he staid back, back with the mothers, fathers, younger siblings, and other on lookers. There was no disappointment of being left behind if he wasn't in the running... right?
