Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Well, the week had been a rather hectic one. At the very least, 'fall had stopped for the season, both because of the ashfall and also because it was winter. C'aelir wouldn't complain about not being on a path to die or get injured, but such was the way of a dragonrider. The thing that was by far more exciting than drills or threadfall stopping was that he found out that he had a brother. 8 turns or so older, but a brother. Kiiviith was still ecstatic about the news as she landed onto the weyrledge. She only stopped for a moment to let C'aelir dismount, and then rocketed off, with her straps still on, to lay next to Echonoeth.

Echonoeth, you will never guess what happened today! The green was practically vibrating with energy, but she managed to allow a moment of suspense. sort of. Don't tell S'dra yet....but....C'aelir has! a! brother! A BROTHER! I thought they looked similar when I saw him, and lo and behold! surprise sibling! She rested her head on Echonoeth's left front leg suddenly, and hummed for a moment. but, enough about our escapades! Was watch duty at all exciting? How was your day?

C'aelir laughed a little at his dragon, hanging his jacket up and striding into the living space, waving to Echonoeth before he left. He wasn't surprised that his weyrmate wasn't in the sitting room, as he was sometimes resting at this time of night. He shrugged to himself, taking off his gloves and shoving them into his pockets, and pushed away the curtains that led into the bedroom. C'aelir couldn't help but smile at the man when he saw him.

"Hey, fen," he began, shaking off his boots nonchalantly, and then positioning himself on the bed so that he'd be next to S'dra without completely smothering him, although he did give him a quick kiss on the cheek, "Faranth, you will not believe the day I've had, actually. It was...uh, something," he managed a slightly amused smile, "certainly didn't think it would happen to me in a lifetime, to be quite honest-"

He was about to continue, when he heard Kiiviith quickly interrupt him before he could speak, Noo, don't tell him yet! wait for him to ask! I want to know how surprised he is!

C'aelir furrowed his eyebrows at his green's demand,'Kiiviith, he'd be surprised either way. It would take less time if I just...told him now?'

Sssssh, it'll be worth it! please? besides, it makes it more exciting!

'I never knew that announcements were more exciting when you postponed them, Kiiviith.' He responded lackadaisically. He wasn't in the mood to argue over something rather stupid with his dragon, so he let it be.

After a long day, S'dra liked little more than getting into comfortable underclothes and sprawling out across the sleeping furs. He liked it far more when his weyrmate was in close proximity, but Gallant was amenable enough company for the time being. The man endeavoured to pass the time by responding to his family's latest letters, sent by one of the Hold flitters. The neat piece of hide was beginning to show its age and use as S'dra's penmanship broke and bled every few words, making him wrinkle his nose in irritation.

He only half-heard the arrival of C'aelir and Kiiviith, so absorbed was he in his task - it took feeling Echonoeth's mood change before he realised they were home. The blue rumbled in acknowledgement to C'aelir, but he was far more interested in his dragon. He rumbled to her, too. Hello, my dear. I - His words were cut off prematurely to hear out her news. Amusement coloured his tone as he nuzzled at the top of her head, resting against his foreleg. A brother? Well, I never. Oh, watch duty was… delightful, as usual. I'd have rather spent the afternoon with you. A croon punctuated his last sentence.

In the sleeping room of the weyr, S'dra drew himself up into a position a little more respectable than his previous slouch. He'd been at it a while, apparently. The glows were ever-so-slightly dimmer. Glows were the last thing on his mind, however, when S'dra strode in through the curtained partition. A grin of his own answered his weyrmate's smile, and he leaned into the absolutely-not-unexpected cheek kiss he received, while stacking away hides and ink tools absent-mindedly.

"I can practically hear Kiiviith from here, big news, huh?" He said after C'aelir's words were interrupted. It wasn't exactly a lie. He felt it secondhand through Echo. "Let me guess… hmm." The man made a show of racking his brains for a moment. "Some big news happened and your young lady won't let you tell me until enough suspense is drummed up?"

Echonoeth smugly withheld the information from him, too, loathe to ruin the green's fun. It was three against one, apparently. The situation only made him grin more. Affecting a long-suffering sigh of defeat, all he could say was, "Okay, okay. You've won, Kiiviith-" that last part was loud enough to carry into the weyr proper - "My curiosity is piqued. What is it you two have gotten yourselves into, exactly?"

As he asked that, he suddenly remembered he had news of his own. Watch duty had been so dry he'd almost entirely forgotten about it. How sad. His next few words were sly. "Actually, I have some news of my own that I've been waiting all day to tell you, but you first, handsome." Two can play at that game, Kiiviith.

Kiiviith gave a little croon in response to Echonoeth's statement. She leaned into the blue when he nuzzled her head, Yes, I would have liked to spend the afternoon with you, too. We would've had fun, I think. Maybe sometime soon, though? She stopped to think for a moment, to think about where she hadn't really been yet. Kiiviith lifted her head a bit, Like Cienna's mountains. It would be cold, but i imagine it would be nice. She had seen the foothills before, but never really experimented with how high she could go.

"oh, you know her so well," C'aelir said nonchalantly, laughing slightly at how rather extravagant S'dra was at pondering. "and an upset kiiviith is not exactly something I really want to deal with, or ever, for that matter. So I'm afraid I ought to keep my mouth shut until she lets me tell you."

Kiiviith let out a loud, cheerful squeal when S'dra sighed and admitted his defeat. Ha! I knew you would be curious! Go on, C'aelir, tell him!

C'aelir opened his mouth to speak, and smiled when his weymate stated that he likewise had news to share, Kiiviith, however, was less than impressed, "Well. Apparently I have an older brother," C'aelir shifted his weight on the beds to better look at S'dra, "we thought we recognized each other, and then when Kiiviith mentioned my parents...he didn't seem so pleased. From the information I gathered when I was having a chat, apparently he used to be your wingmate in Telgar, his name is C'nar. Bronze Dyath."

He gave a long sigh, "He was rather upset about this revelation, and I for one can't fathom why either Connairne or Waelir would withhold this from me." They had both been incredibly young when they were sent to Keroon, but with C'nar having worked...rather menial labor, he wondered if he was sent for some reason that was far less pleasant than pursuing an education. He didn't want to think about it any more. "I'm not quite sure what to think about it really; I suppose some sort of...relationship building would be in order. Don't really know how to go about that. I'll think about that later." When Poofman Doo suddenly showed up, getting nearly caught in the curtains, C'aelir gave the wherry a slight glare, but welcomed him onto his chest anyway. "Surprised this one didn't have a go at the man's firelizards."

"Anyway, love, what's your exciting news, hmm?"

Tell me!

Oh? Echonoeth humoured his weyrmate. Just us? Was that embarrassment colouring his tone? Surely not. T-that would be quite the trip. It has been a while, hasn't it? If it's cold, we can shed off our riders elsewhere, and not have them around to badger us about it. Nice indeed. He was now covering up his youthful bashfulness with a sly voice, and snuck in a little nuzzle to the top of her head.

Echo adored Kiiviith and thus ate up every little thing and bit of news she had to say, but the blue honestly hadn't thought too hard on the long-lost-brother situation. He was a dragon who isn't terribly caught up on the abstract lives of humans (unlike Kiiviith), but he became steadily more curious as the two dragonmen discussed it. Disgruntled, in a good-natured manner, he turned to his weyrmate and asked How does one 'lose' a brother? I swear, without us, people would be useless.

"Fair's fair," S'dra had responded humorously to the other man's explanation. Kiiviith was almost like a daughter to him. You couldn't just take away innocuous fun from her like that - but C'aelir's next few words hushed what he had to say next. He listened carefully, and when the mystery brother's name was revealed, S'dra's eyebrows nearly clean left his forehead. "C'nar? Get out. Not that I knew him well or anything, but we definitely were wingmates."

What a small world.

S'dra continued listening with diligence and the odd frown when necessary. "That is odd," he agreed quietly, more to himself than anything. He loved a good mystery, perhaps even more than the average person, but something about this seemed a little... unethical. He'd have to pack away his curiousity while his weyrmate tested the waters between himself and C'nar.

"A mystery bronze-riding older brother," he said with a smirk at last. "That's pretty cool, isn't it. If memory serves, Dyath was an interesting dragon. A little domineering over his rider. I wonder how he and Kiiv will get along?"

When C'aelir 's wayward wherry finally made an appearance, S'dra laughed. "There he is, the little fiend. Of course he didn't - Gallant's trained him well. Hasn't he?" Gallant was asleep, and missed the chance for an ego stroke.

His owner continued when C'aelir questioned him on his news. "Hardly as exciting as finding your own brother I'm afraid, but it is big - have you heard there's a recruitment call for new candidate masters?" He gave a wink. "I put my name in - I thought no harm in having a go. Should be a bit of an eye opener if I do get picked."

He shed his loose undershirt while letting C'aelir process the information, flinging it a little gracelessly to the corner of the room where his boots sat neatly. "Remember candidacy? It really wasn't that long ago for both of us, was it? Thank the golden egg we actually get free time now."
