Posted Image Posted Image Name: Edward Geraldine Freedent Nickname: Lightning Shadow Callsign: Lightning Shadow Age: 19 Gender: Male Origin: American Birthplace: Liberion City, Antiga D.O.B.: August 31, AD 3396 Blood Type: O+ Genetic Type: Newtype Hair Color: Black Eye Color: Brown Height: 5'9 Weight: 177 lbs Faction: Galaxy Federation Biography: Born the only son of legendary Galaxy Federation Air Force pilot, Captain Shaun Dowyer Freedent a.k.a. Shadow. Edward was sired from the union of fellow air force pilot and girlfriend of his father, Wing Commander Marlene Charlone Blanc a.k.a. Mach. The two planned to marry following Edward's birth but Shaun was recalled back into military service one week before their marraige could take place. He never returned. Five months later, Marlene learned he was taken as a P.O.W. and killed when he refused to submit to the Imperial Dominion. This devastated Marlene, resulting in her immediate resignation from the Galaxy Federation military. Relocating to the fringe world of Vanguard III, Marlene swore to raise her infant son in a world where the ensuing war will never affect them. She eventually marries an agricultural farmer, Hideyuki Matsura, who was more than happy to raise Edward as his own son. Fearing that her son might discover the truth in the near future, Marlene decided to bury her past by burning every prized possession she obtained throughout her time in the military, including her war medals and photographs of her late boyfriend. Edward was a stark image of his father's younger self by the time he turned fifteen. He wasn't naive as Marlene thought he would. As much as he loved him, Edward knew Hideyuki wasn't his biological father. It didn't take long before Edward began adopting the habits and patterns of his biological father. Like Shaun before him, Edward disliked being referred by his given name and he found his middle name, Geraldine, too feminine. He began referring himself as Edge, combining the first two words of his first and middle names like his parents did with theirs. His mother began worrying when Edge developed a huge interest of flying and how he found variable fighters interesting. Things took turn for the worse when a squadron of Galaxy Federation Air Force pilots came into town in the wake of recent Imperial activity outside Vanguard III. She feared for the war and her son's growing interest in it. As Edge established himself as the best EX-Gear operator in Vanguard III after winning the World Junior Championships that year, he caught the interest of the air force squadron's leader, Captain Shinjiro Amada. Ironically, Captain Amada was one of the surviving members of the squadron formerly led by Shaun Freedent. When Edge introduced Captain Amada to his parents, the latter immediately recognized his mother and Edge came to learn that his biological father was a legendary ace pilot of the Galaxy Federation Air Force. Distraught that his mother buried the truth from him for all those years, Edge decided to run away. As he left the premises of his house, it was destroyed by a stray missile fired by an Imperial Army mobile suit. Edge was whisked away to safety by a surviving Captain Amada, who had left the house earlier to pursue Edge and convince him to return to his family. It was too late. Both Hideyuki and Marlene perished amidst the flames. Ironically, Edge got what he always dreamed of, to become a part of the greatest military in the world but at the cost of losing his mother and stepfather. Vanguard III was lost but Edge and Captain Amada managed to escape before the Imperial Army took over the homeworld completely. Edge was taken back to his birthplace, Antiga, where Captain Amada became his legal guardian. Resenting the Imperial Dominion deeply, Edge resolved to join the Galaxy Federation. Though offered a place within the Amada Family, Edge renamed himself Edge Freedent, in honor of his late father. Captain Amada was determined to mold Edge into the ace pilot his father once was. Using his influence in the Galaxy Federation Air Force, Edge was allowed a spot in the highly competitive Valkyrie Pilot Training Course. As Edge had already mastered the use of an EX-Gear, Edge fulfilled the requirements of basic training and went straight to piloting. His performances in the flight simulator was very reminiscent to that of his late father and it didn't take long before Edge was recommended to some of the best variable fighter squadrons in the Galaxy Federation. As Edge didn't want to be remembered as the son of a legendary pilot, he turned down offers at leading a flight unit, opting to stay with Captain Amada and work his way to the top. Edge began as one of the many Sargeants in Captain Amada's squadron, though he was treated like a superior by most if not all of his comrades despite his inexperience in battle. His potential was easily discovered in his first battle against the Imperial Army where he singlehandedly shot down an entire mobile suit unit. Praised by Air Marshal Susanoo Misumaru himself, Edge was promoted to Lieutenant for his outstanding efforts in battle. Edge and Captain Amada soon went seperate ways when the latter felt he had nothing more to teach his ward. During his tenure as a 'licensed freelance', Edge participated during the Eclipsor Prime campaign. Hailed by his peers as Lightning Shadow, Edge was known to have carried his squadron in every battle. As the highest scoring ace in his unit, Edge was able to acquire more kills than any of his comrades combined. He was left out of the Battle of Port Stockholm following a mechanical failure which forced him to crash land his variable fighter. In the aftermath of the Eclipsor Prime campaign, Edge was selected to join the Federation First Army under Air Marshal Misumaru's command. Permitted to establish his own squadron, the unit came to be known as Shadow Force, named in honor of Edge's father. The squadron became one of the Federation Air Force's finest units due to the outstanding chemistry between all eleven pilots. Edge also became one of the first pilots of the Federation's new Nightmare Plus variable fighter series, having contributed to the development of the unit prior to joining the First Army. In the wake of a need for experienced variable fighter pilots on the frontline, Edge was promoted to Captain. |
